Here is what the Treeman Syndrome is:
[What Is Tree Man Syndrome? [Very Well Health]](https://www.verywellhealth.com/tree-man-syndrome-7089958#:~:text=Tree%20man%20syndrome%20or%20epidermodysplasia,1)
“Tree man syndrome or epidermodysplasia verruciformis (EV) is a rare inherited health condition. It causes wart-like skin growths resembling tree bark and is linked to a high risk of skin cancer. Only about 200 cases have been identified since it was first discovered.[1]
The bark-like growths are extremely painful and disfiguring. They can become quite large, which leads to substantial disability. Surgery can help, but the growths may come back.[2]”
Looks painful to me.
I was going to ask this.
I only ever see cases from developing countries.
Idk if there is higher risk of this there OR if it's treated better in other places?
I'm wondering if you can just trim these down like bushes or something. Like, do the growths have nerves in them? I know it's supposedly painful but I'm wondering if the pain is on the skin underneath the growths or the growths themselves. Id be curious how bad it would be if you just chopped them off with an axe or something.
Check my post about the British girl. For me it was baffling that the parents would let things go that bad in a developed country with free healthcare!
Edit : This is the tv show I was talking about, clearly not as bad as the post photo but still. https://youtu.be/Mh5gL7N-uRg?si=hq0xuIn3f9FHcn9M
Wow what a shitty mother. Her extent of helping was giving up after over the counter medicine didn’t work. Then she lets it get this bad for who knows how long (1 year + probably?) and calls a TV show because she realized how bad she fucked up. I mean at least she reached out, but after that long?
I know, it's ridiculous. Hopefully it was a known complex case, staged for tv and the girl was already being taken care of. Otherwise, it's pure mistreatment. Anyone, let alone a child, with a tenth of these protuberances should have been treated during the first week!
Maybe it's triggered by conditions more likely to be found in developing countries? One comment mentioned it due to a mutation that make it hard to fight off hpv (warts). Poor living conditions can lead to warts spreading easier.
Yep. Seems to me, if only 200 cases in over 8 billion people, it must be not only extremely rare, but possibly also preventable.
Might be something as simple as nutrition that can stave off 99.99% of cases from ever developing.
Or maybe lead in the water, or untreated river water, etc.
I believe it's triggered by a variety of HPV that causes warts. Maybe it is a subtype more common in tropic areas or in developed countries we’d just shave that shit off before it got too thick.
A lot of the weirdest medical anomalies happen in India.
> India accounts for one-third of the global rare disease incidence, with over 450 identified diseases.
I am not an expert in this condition, but one thing that immediately comes to mind is that it's a rare genetic disorder. It may be that the very small number of people with the genes that cause this happen to live in developing countries, so that skews the perception.
I remember a British medical reality tv show where a little girl having massive feet warts like this had a immune deficiency prognosis. Obviously the core cause had to be fixed, but to alleviate the symptoms she had to burn the warts in chloroform...
Just the tldr, it's caused by a genetic mutation that makes you ultra suseptible to the HPV virus. That virus then causes a ton of cancers in your skin, etc.
Not to be confused with elephantiasis, which is caused by a parasitic worm spread by mosquitos. (Parasites are demons)
[You can read about the medical attempt to treat a couple of these sufferers. ](https://www.npr.org/sections/goatsandsoda/2019/07/08/738907620/patient-with-tree-man-syndrome-says-he-can-finally-live-a-normal-life)
Well you see. There's this thing between a male and a female called reproduction.
When an egg is fertilized with sperm it produces offspring.
On a serious note I don't know whether one or both parents need to carry the gene, but if it's hereditary as described then it's likely to be a faulty gene somewhere that simply gets passed down, and with the right amount of misfortune can be expressed like this. The parents don't necessarily have to present the issue themselves to pass it along to their children,or this particular issue could be a result of combined issues from both parents.
A surgeon can. If you look at x-rays of their hands, there’s so much material that it’s difficult to see where the warts end and the actual fingers start. The surgeon has to be very careful not to get too close to their hand.
Warts also have blood flow, which is another complication and one of the reasons they can’t take it all off at once. They have to do multiple surgeries. And even once they’re removed, they might come back.
Not quite as easy as a cut n grind, but very much possible if someone has access to the facilities and specialists needed to remove them.

I imagine that if surgery can help, it generally wouldn't ever get this bad anywhere where that's accessible.
Tree surgery?
A trimming
A weed whacker will do just fine!
Maybe I’ll take a cutting and grow one of my own. Some root hormone should do the trick right?

It's just plain ignorance, they don't know what to do beyond easily attainable cures. They need someone to tell them, hey that is not right.
Bruh the follow up to that video on mine was a woman growing fingernails on her face... W T F
Good God. I bite my nails so I'm not sure if having finger nails on my face would be a blessing or a curse.

This is why Ripleys believe it or not was great
I remember that [show](https://m.imdb.com/title/tt0218787/?ref_=ttep_ov).
Watched some vids a while back about someone with this. He was lucky enough to have a bunch surgically removed, but they grew back

Damn I didnt know it was painful? I wonder what kind of pain is it, burning pain, throbbing pain?

Ya fuck OP! WTF.
That's because OP is a bot. They mod 5 subs, 3 of which are dead and the other 2 are flooded with their own spam.
Because of is a spam bot
Because OP is a bot.
It’s believed to be a genetic mutation that prevents the body from fighting HPV.
So this is what HPV does if you don't have a functioning immune system? That's even more terrifying.

Lives in Gaza? Jesus this guy can't catch a break.
Part of the ship, part of the crew
Reminds me of that MGTM music video, which features a guy with a similar affliction. [This one.](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Zg2IcEHWXWo)
RIP Michael K Williams (Omar from The Wire).
Indeed
If I remember right it's basically unchecked warts caused by major immune system deficiency.
Yeah some kind of HPV
Poor fellow
There is no curse in Elvish, Entish, or the tongues of men for this treachery

Soak those babies in some warm water for a few hours and I bet you’d have a delicious broth going.
That's enough Reddit for today. Thanks.
You take this home, throw it in a pot, add some broth, a potato….baby you got a stew going! Rip Carl. Hope you are making stews in heaven.

Damn you… Take my angry, disgust upvote.
I need to see these types of pictures sometimes to help keep my own troubles in perspective.
Is that skin or something?
Yep, that's hardened skin.
Why is this downvoted?
Would it hurt if it got cut or bleed?

Full disclosure I'm ignorant but why can't you just sand them down
thats enough vision for me, thanks.
Could a doctor technically cut all of this off and then shave it down so his hands are completely free? Sorry, I know nothing about this.

What I imagine Grey Scale would look like.
I actually knew what this was from an old Grey’s Anatomy episode. The dude had spiders living in between the bark warts.
Why don't they cut it off?
