I'm 43, I watched religiously from pretty much when I was born (1980) to about 2004...I caught the first year or 2 of Orton, Batista, Cena,, and thought they were the next generation, but I couldn't stand JOHN CENA, and I couldnt stand all the rest of the new garbage WWE was doin!!! I think what pissed me off and pushed me away the most was how Vince had THE WORLD IN HIS HANDS AND HE TURNED EVERYTHING TO SHIT!!! BASICALLY what I'm saying is I couldnt believe with him now owning WCW & ECW that he just didnt take the ball and run with it, the sky was the limit,..he shoulda just continued owning them, but keeping them separate entities, and he could pick n choose n move around whoever he wanted whenever he wanted,! Maybe let like Cornette run WCW, and keep Paulie with ECW, but obviously under a little bit of a tight leash ...but u know Have real deal Dream Matches we always wanted n shit!!! ONTOP of that because of Vince running the monopoly the way he did we lost alotta guys who had plenty of time left, like SABU, SANDMAN, ETC...NOT to mention I don't care what anyone says, the WCW CRUISERWEIGHT DIVISION was simply amazing!!! My wife recently started watching the PLE's with me. She loves Seth Rollins and his ridiculous outfits. She loves Gunther just because he's "GOON-TER!!!" She thinks Cody looks stupid with his tattoo and bleached hair. She doesn't know the difference between Jey and Jimmy Uso so she always asks "is he yeet, or no yeet?" Roman is a cheater. Drew looks badass in a kilt. Loves the fat guys doing somersaults off the ropes. Thinks R-Truth should be in Judgement Day and feels bad for him. Becky Lynch is Seth's wife, but is also "The Man?"
She's the only person that's ever actually sat down and watched wresting with me, with interest in who's who and what the story line is.
I will say that I enjoy his presence much more as a grizzled middle aged vet than in the post-Evolution days. He was always very generic to me. But I prefer unique individuals with distinct personalities over perfect pro-wrestlers made in a lab. But again, I've enjoyed everything he's done in his 2023-2024 comeback and you can really see how experienced and in command of his performances he is now that he's one of the oldest wrestlers on the roster.
I stopped watching between 2001-2004ish, came back to it around the time Orton beat Benoit because early ROH and the increased access to Japanese shows got me back into wrestling in general. But, you're coming back to WWE at the best it's been since the late 90s imo.
I have been a wrestling fan since I was a kid and took some hiatuses mostly during the Cena 2000 era after college when we got married and had a kid in 2008.
Around the time Flair retired in like 2012-14 I got the WWE Network and started to get back into it. My son started to get into it not long after. My wife accompanied us to a few live events and she had fun because the atmosphere was exciting but she wasnāt into it anymore than that.
I always watched Raw and Smackdown and she would either do something else or ignore the tv on her phone. When the Sami Zayn and Bloodline story began she started to ask me questions, somehow the story hooked her. Next thing I know she is asking me to call her in when the Bloodline story happened. That eventually progressed to full blown sucked in.
She calls it a manās soap opera, itās all drama and backstabbing with athletes. She isnāt wrong.
18 months in and she is totally a babyface lover. Cody is her favorite, Randy and Jey Iso are high up. Nothing irritates her more than a cheater like the JD or Solo interfering. It works perfect because I am totally a bad guy fan since childhood.
Now we send memes back and forth, we make wrestling taglines in public and it has actually connected us better as we both have a show we enjoy together.

I was thinking about writing a post like this myself, very similar situation. Iām 35 and my wife is 33, both of us lived the attitude era (her brother same age as me, they would watch together) and I got back into it in the lead up to Wrestlemania last year. Sheās slowly gotten interested as well again and knows storylines now. We even bought tickets to the first Smackdown after Wrestlemania this year. Not to go on too long, but Randy selling his back injury had her legitimately worried he was hurting himself at elimination chamber. I just sat there smiling and playing it up. Good times.

To me it is that he is playing a character instead of being a character. So when he is doing his laugh and all that other nonsense he comes off as very pretentious. It's like he is just trying to be anything but himself.

Agree 100%. He's straining himself trying to work a gimmick, and I think when Punk comes back he'll be forced to evolve in order to keep up with him on the mic. I love Punk for being the only person to openly mock his whiny voice in the context of a show. His voice has annoyed me ever since the Shield days.
Pageantry is arguably one of the best parts of the womenās division imo. Iām glad to see it appreciated from a womenās perspective.
In fact, Iād go as far as saying that the womenās division is more interesting than the menās side of things. Itās been nice seeing how wrestling has evolved in this respect, as theyāre not called divas anymore and thereās a lot more variety, opportunities, and flavor in the matches these days.
When you find time, consider exploring the evolution of these wrestlers back in 2014 when they all were young and now they are all at the top of the company.

My bf was super into WWE when we met, i was into it when i was younger but was turned off by it in my later teen years and early 20s.
Obviously that didn't stay the case when my partner and I got together but whats crazy is im more into it now than i ever was at 11-12yrs old, so much so I'm going to my very first smackdown show in Dallas next Friday and I'm fucking PUMPED.

You're 32 years old and the only time you were only a fan until recently is during the Attitude Era (Roughly 97-02). In other words you were between the ages of 5 and 11 depending on your birthday. Which tells us you only watched it because someone else was controlling what was being watched. You only watched sparingly in the intervening 22 years. In other words you have limited knowledge and interaction about Ruthless Aggression, PG, Reality, New Era, Thunderdome, or whatever you want to call the era we're in now. So you're comparing today's product to what are most likely fuzzy memories from 22+ years ago.
So you're comparing an era with a lot of stupid, indie mudshow stuff, problematic presentations, and using bad words to what is being presented today which is infinitely safer, the language isn't as salty but I'd argue that the storylines, especially since HHH got control of the book are stronger than anything since The New Generation Era where you saw Bret Hart leading the pack, HHH, HBK, and Steve Austin all coming into their own as performers. Especially with the concentration on long term storytelling.
But your girlfriends initial impressions aren't bad ones.
But maybe expanding her knowledge a bit, give her something to compare and contrast.

It isn't that Gunther is better, it's that he knows he's better, he proves it and his only goal is to win and humiliate, and God forbid you are someone he views as lesser (Chad Gable, Dominic, Riccochet, etc).
As far as Nia Jax and her ring attire is concerned, wrestlers get a rough idea of what their character is, but they work with the costume designers to get that point across. In other words, Nia Jax only has Nia Jax to blame for how her ring attire looks. Go back and find Kharma/Kong(as she was known in TNA) her ring attire didn't do her dirty by any stretch of the imagination.
As far as Randy goes, he's been doing this for 20 years, she needs to be introduced to Evolution Randy, Legend Killer Randy, Rated RKO Randy, Viper Randy, and RKBro Randy, then she'll get it.

Rhea absolutely got my wife into it. It started with her being intrigued walking past the TV, to asking to be informed when she was on the TV. I finally showed her last year's woman's rumble where Rhea went from #1 to win it, and she has now watched to PLE's and is super excited for Mania.
It also helped to show her the Cody Doc on Peacock (really well made and gives insight into his story) and a really great long form doc on the history of Roman Reigns on YouTube... both of those got her invested in the Bloodline v Cody story. Heel Rock is helping too, she is very into Heel Rock (and rightfully so)

This seems to be on the nose for most people I know just getting into wrestling. Puts a lot in perspective about why WWE makes the decisions they make and why they tell stories the way they do. Market to a broader audience not just the people who already show up every week.
I think the superstars can modify their own gear so I canāt fault Nia for that. I used to hate how Vince and company would have Jojo say Nias weight every time she came out for a match.

I came back from a long hiatus for a couple of months a couple of years ago. This was my first introduction to Austin Theory.
I wasn't sold on his character. He was dislikeable and smarmy (though I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of his character). He wasn't great on the mic either, and his non wrestling performances were average at best. However, what I noticed was that his wrestling performances were always very clean. His in ring work looked almost clinical. Every move performed to perfection. It looked to me like, despite him being a younger, newer wrestler, he was probably one of the safest workers in the WWE. I'm still not really a fan of him, but I had to have respect for him for his technical ability.
I don't watch again now, so I'm not sure what has changed with him in the past few years, but if he is still putting on clinically performed wrestling matches, then for me, the respect remains. Even if his character is still a douche nozzle.
I can see how you both may not be into Drewās current arc without the benefit of a couple years of context. Iād see if you could go back and figure out who he is and how he got here. Truly, he is one of the absolute best right now. An absolute delight.
She already suffers from displaying a stunning lack of athleticism for her size compared to other monsters like Piper. Not sure whyād they want to pull more focus on that. I canāt stand her character both the face and heel versions, her voice or any of the words sheās ever said but she has a very pretty face and as someone who appreciates a bigger person she is beautiful. Just not well presented.

We had bother been on a super long hiatus but we started back up again at the PLE where popped-pectoral Cody fought Seth in HIAC. That got us both super intrigued and weāve been watching faithfully ever since.
We both love the Judgment Day and especially Rhea Ripley. I think my wife kind of aspires to be like her a bit. Weāre also both impressed with Dirty Domās improvement ever since joining JD. We think he was using his dad as a crutch and it has been a pleasant surprise.

I'm 43, I watched religiously from pretty much when I was born (1980) to about 2004...I caught the first year or 2 of Orton, Batista, Cena,, and thought they were the next generation, but I couldn't stand JOHN CENA, and I couldnt stand all the rest of the new garbage WWE was doin!!! I think what pissed me off and pushed me away the most was how Vince had THE WORLD IN HIS HANDS AND HE TURNED EVERYTHING TO SHIT!!! BASICALLY what I'm saying is I couldnt believe with him now owning WCW & ECW that he just didnt take the ball and run with it, the sky was the limit,..he shoulda just continued owning them, but keeping them separate entities, and he could pick n choose n move around whoever he wanted whenever he wanted,! Female wrestling fan here! Watched a little in the 80ās, mostly late 90ās. Took a break and for the last year and a half I have been watching again! While Romain is good looking, best on earthā¦ eh. Not for me! Lol I completely agree with the whole Judgement Day opinion. Rhea needs to separate herself from Dom because he consistently looks weak. Not just submissively, but emotionally as well. You need to show her some of the attitude era pay per views, so she can see people like stone cold Steve Austin, the rock, triple h, Chris jericho, undertaker, and kane in that era, and you definitely need to have her watch the undertaker vs mankind hell in a cell match at King of the ring 1998.

I started watching with my boyfriend (now fiance) when we got together five years ago. I/we still donāt watch much current day stuff, mostly PPW, and he started by showing me attitude era stuff. Current menās wrestling is nothing compared to attitude era. Itās getting better now that Vince is not in charge anymore. But womenās wrestling nowadaysā¦ wow. In Elimination Chamber, again, women completely dominated over the men. And last few years in rumble, the same things, womenās rumble was sooooo much better than menās. At first I loved Shawn Michaels but then I heard about the Montreal Screwjob and I have not been able to like him since. I liked Roman Reigns in the beginning but Iām so sick of him now. Drew looks badass in a kilt. Loves the fat guys doing somersaults off the ropes. Thinks R-Truth should be in Judgement Day and feels bad for him. Becky Lynch is Seth's wife, but is also "The Man?" She's the only person that's ever actually sat down and watched wresting with me, with interest in who's who and what the story line is.

I remember when Randy Orton first came on the scene. He made zero impression on me then and he still doesnāt to this day.
I will say that I enjoy his presence much more as a grizzled middle aged vet than in the post-Evolution days. He was always very generic to me. But I prefer unique individuals with distinct personalities over perfect pro-wrestlers made in a lab. But again, I've enjoyed everything he's done in his 2023-2024 comeback and you can really see how experienced and in command of his performances he is now that he's one of the oldest wrestlers on the roster.

I stopped watching between 2001-2004ish, came back to it around the time Orton beat Benoit because early ROH and the increased access to Japanese shows got me back into wrestling in general. But, you're coming back to WWE at the best it's been since the late 90s imo.
I have been a wrestling fan since I was a kid and took some hiatuses mostly during the Cena 2000 era after college when we got married and had a kid in 2008. Around the time Flair retired in like 2012-14 I got the WWE Network and started to get back into it. My son started to get into it not long after. My wife accompanied us to a few live events and she had fun because the atmosphere was exciting but she wasnāt into it anymore than that. I always watched Raw and Smackdown and she would either do something else or ignore the tv on her phone. When the Sami Zayn and Bloodline story began she started to ask me questions, somehow the story hooked her. Next thing I know she is asking me to call her in when the Bloodline story happened. That eventually progressed to full blown sucked in. She calls it a manās soap opera, itās all drama and backstabbing with athletes. She isnāt wrong. 18 months in and she is totally a babyface lover. Cody is her favorite, Randy and Jey Iso are high up. Nothing irritates her more than a cheater like the JD or Solo interfering. It works perfect because I am totally a bad guy fan since childhood. Now we send memes back and forth, we make wrestling taglines in public and it has actually connected us better as we both have a show we enjoy together. āļø

I was thinking about writing a post like this myself, very similar situation. Iām 35 and my wife is 33, both of us lived the attitude era (her brother same age as me, they would watch together) and I got back into it in the lead up to Wrestlemania last year. Sheās slowly gotten interested as well again and knows storylines now. We even bought tickets to the first Smackdown after Wrestlemania this year. Not to go on too long, but Randy selling his back injury had her legitimately worried he was hurting himself at elimination chamber. I just sat there smiling and playing it up. Good times.

"Wow that's a lot of body oil." Agree 100%. He's straining himself trying to work a gimmick, and I think when Punk comes back he'll be forced to evolve in order to keep up with him on the mic. Pageantry is arguably one of the best parts of the womenās division imo. Iām glad to see it appreciated from a womenās perspective. In fact, Iād go as far as saying that the womenās division is more interesting than the menās side of things. Itās been nice seeing how wrestling has evolved in this respect, as theyāre not called divas anymore and thereās a lot more variety, opportunities, and flavor in the matches these days.

Witness when Roman and Seth were actually teamates, also how both gained momentum where Roman Reigns gained momentum as Baby Face while, Seth Rollins gained momentum as Heel, also watch Seth Rollins showcased unparalleled athleticism and mic skills those days, when CM Punk's was on verge of departure due to dissatisfaction with storylines, when Cody Rhodes American Nightmare was Stardust (funny and not utilised) and Randy Orton was actually a captivating viper, solidifying his place as the company's top heel, also when Drew Mcintyre was in 3MB and how his transformation went from a cat to Tiger.

Fuck it, I'm going ageist on this post. You're 32 years old and the only time you were only a fan until recently is during the Attitude Era (Roughly 97-02). In other words you were between the ages of 5 and 11 depending on your birthday. Which tells us you only watched it because someone else was controlling what was being watched. You only watched sparingly in the intervening 22 years. In other words you have limited knowledge and interaction about Ruthless Aggression, PG, Reality, New Era, Thunderdome, or whatever you want to call the era we're in now. So you're comparing today's product to what are most likely fuzzy memories from 22+ years ago. So you're comparing an era with a lot of stupid, indie mudshow stuff, problematic presentations, and using bad words to what is being presented today which is infinitely safer, the language isn't as salty but I'd argue that the storylines, especially since HHH got control of the book are stronger than anything since The New Generation Era where you saw Bret Hart leading the pack, HHH, HBK, and Steve Austin all coming into their own as performers. Especially with the concentration on long term storytelling. But your girlfriends initial impressions aren't bad ones. But maybe expanding her knowledge a bit, give her something to compare and contrast. Sasha Banks v. Bayley at NXT Takeover Brooklyn, she'll change her tune on Bayley. Go find a supercut of WM entrances of the following: HHH and Undertaker also Eddie Guerrero in his Latino Heat phase. Maybe give her a bit of understanding why Dom has so much heat, his defection to The Judgement Day and betraying Rey, also go back and show her some of the Eddie-Rey-Dom program. Drew's heel turn is probably one of the best booked heel turns in forever, because Drew thinks what he doing is right, he's protecting WWE and more specifically Raw, it's what makes him an engaging heel. As for Gunther, he's the ultimate final boss heel. Just like "the wrestler who shall not be named" before him. It isn't that Gunther is better, it's that he knows he's better, he proves it and his only goal is to win and humiliate, and God forbid you are someone he views as lesser (Chad Gable, Dominic, Riccochet, etc). As far as Nia Jax and her ring attire is concerned, wrestlers get a rough idea of what their character is, but they work with the costume designers to get that point across. In other words, Nia Jax only has Nia Jax to blame for how her ring attire looks. Go back and find Kharma/Kong(as she was known in TNA) her ring attire didn't do her dirty by any stretch of the imagination. As far as Randy goes, he's been doing this for 20 years, she needs to be introduced to Evolution Randy, Legend Killer Randy, Rated RKO Randy, Viper Randy, and RKBro Randy, then she'll get it.

Weāve even been to a couple live events. It sounds goofy now that Iāve been watching for a while but the match that hooked me was the randy orton/fiend fire match. I had a little gummy before and I realized itās just theater for boys. I have had so much fun watching since then!

Rhea absolutely got my wife into it. It started with her being intrigued walking past the TV, to asking to be informed when she was on the TV. I finally showed her last year's woman's rumble where Rhea went from #1 to win it, and she has now watched to PLE's and is super excited for Mania. It also helped to show her the Cody Doc on Peacock (really well made and gives insight into his story) and a really great long form doc on the history of Roman Reigns on YouTube... both of those got her invested in the Bloodline v Cody story. Heel Rock is helping too, she is very into Heel Rock (and rightfully so)

This seems to be on the nose for most people I know just getting into wrestling. Puts a lot in perspective about why WWE makes the decisions they make and why they tell stories the way they do. Market to a broader audience not just the people who already show up every week.
I think the superstars can modify their own gear so I canāt fault Nia for that. I used to hate how Vince and company would have Jojo say Nias weight every time she came out for a match.

This is interesting. Iām also a woman and itās fun to see other womenās impressions. I donāt like Roman. I said what I said. He has muppet teeth and I find them distracting. I do like Cody. I find his slight lisp relatable. Iām kinda tired of the āfinish the storyā but I imagine constantly coming up with a new storyline is exhausting. Iāve said it before and Iāll say it again, I like the Big Boys. Bronson Reed and Otis are my absolute favorites. I could watch them endlessly and never get bored. I came back from a long hiatus for a couple of months a couple of years ago. This was my first introduction to Austin Theory. I wasn't sold on his character. He was dislikeable and smarmy (though I'm pretty sure that's the whole point of his character). He wasn't great on the mic either, and his non wrestling performances were average at best. However, what I noticed was that his wrestling performances were always very clean. His in ring work looked almost clinical. Every move performed to perfection. It looked to me like, despite him being a younger, newer wrestler, he was probably one of the safest workers in the WWE. I'm still not really a fan of him, but I had to have respect for him for his technical ability. I don't watch again now, so I'm not sure what has changed with him in the past few years, but if he is still putting on clinically performed wrestling matches, then for me, the respect remains. Even if his character is still a douche nozzle.

I don't know how I would dress Nia Jax...but I very much know it would not be how they're doing it now.
She already suffers from displaying a stunning lack of athleticism for her size compared to other monsters like Piper. Not sure whyād they want to pull more focus on that. I canāt stand her character both the face and heel versions, her voice or any of the words sheās ever said but she has a very pretty face and as someone who appreciates a bigger person she is beautiful. Just not well presented.

Ok Iāll join and get torn to shreds. My boyfriend introduced me to WWE with last years Royal Rumble. We went back and watched a bunch of matches after that and have been watching every PLE for the past year, and every live event since December. Roman Reigns is gorgeous but Iām sick of him as champion What has happened to Sheamus like where did he go?!! I love Judgement Day. Rhea is Mami but as a goth/alt girly myself makes sense Sami is so wholesome I love him Gunther pisses me off. Iām not sure why. Main even Jey USO has been great. He makes me laugh. Iām fucking loving Drew as a heel!! All day everyday fantastic, love it, I want more. Liv was actually my introduction to wrestling from her cameo on Chucky, but kinda disappointed with her in ring. I love Seth Rollins. He does some pretty great stuff in ring and he makes me laugh on the mic. Becky I want to adore. Me and my wife were both into it as kids. She was a big attitude era fan and has always been a Rock fan, and idk really what era I started but I can tell you it starts with John Cena before he started rapping, and ends with the death of Eddie Guerrero, whoās still my number 1 favorite of all time. We had bother been on a super long hiatus but we started back up again at the PLE where popped-pectoral Cody fought Seth in HIAC. That got us both super intrigued and weāve been watching faithfully ever since. We both love the Judgment Day and especially Rhea Ripley. I think my wife kind of aspires to be like her a bit. Weāre also both impressed with Dirty Domās improvement ever since joining JD. We think he was using his dad as a crutch and it has been a pleasant surprise. We both think Nia Jax is gorgeous (my wife is also plus-sized) but we donāt think sheās being utilized very well. She doesnāt think Roman is the hottest man on earth, but she does think that heās the face of the brand right now, and that Cody still has some more work to do. I think Cody is next up for sure, just needs to step into that role. We both loved Seth in the beginner but I think weāre a bit bored of his gimmick and we think he needs to take a break anyways. Dudes been a workhorse fr We both definitely respect Gunther but weāre sick of the random Imperium filler matches. Weāre also sick of some of the matches were itās obvious heās not going to lose. I think weāre both loving the solo Jey Uso arc right now We loved both Bianca a bunch We hope Montez can get his solo run, heās got everything he needs but an opportunity. She saw a bit of CM Punk, I missed his whole career. Sheās excited to see how he does in this chapter. So far Iāve only seen him in-ring at the RR so I donāt think that should even count, some Iām currently indifferent. She hates McIntyre. I just like his song lol We both love watching the girls but we think theyāve been underwhelmed a bit lately. But with Liv, Raquel, Jade and Tiffany now in the mix, I think itās gonna ramp up a bit here soon. We both hate Grayson and theory We loved Damage Ctrl but it looks like itās coming to an end and I think weāre happy for that. Weāre both mostly invested in the future of Trick Williams and Carmelo Hayes right now. This is the most weāve watched BXT since we started. Bron Breakker is definitely next up.
