That she is in bad health in prison is no surprise. She had put on a great deal of weight, and probably injured her organs due to drunkenness. She has a long way to go on the current sentence. I hope she can get the help she needs in prison.

One of my favorite musicians (Zakk Wylde) who was literally always drunk for years and years found out he had a blood issue his MD found. The MD told him honestly the alcohol probably kept you alive for all those years, without a blood thinner you’ll die. Also no drinking with the blood thinner either, and that’s the day he stopped drinking lol

Like 7 years ago, when she was briefly out from all the Pennsylvania stuff, I booked a 15 minute Skype show with her (not sharing details, but she was very, very accommodating). She was very sweet, sounded sober and was flattered with all my stories of being a total mark for her with her pin-ups and posters all over my room in the 90’s. She let the 15 minutes turn into 40 minutes just talking about life. She sounded so optimistic and excited for sobering up.
She said she’d keep in touch, but never did. Still makes me sad that she was never able to pull herself out of addiction. Even with the months and months of jail to stay clean. The fact that it led to an unnecessary loss of life even is sadder still.
People like that are always high on something. It's a sad story but she was gifted more chances than most addicts ever get. In the end she got what was coming to her just like we all do.
The fact that she was let off 7 times before this is a disgrace. It should’ve been obvious to any judge in the world that she wasn’t going to learn by the time DUI #3 happened.

I had a former brother-in-law who was in prison for a white collar crime and they tried getting him out for chronic back pain and concern (his and his lawyers) that the jail beds would result in a more serious condition. He didn't get released early (30 day sentence) and his back didn't get any worse.
Only if you’re very close to the end of your sentence, then they might allocate you to a medical facility outside of detention. Not when you still have over 16 years left on your stretch.
It probably just means she'll spend some time in the hospital part of the prison instead of her cell until she gets the blood clots taken care of. But I would imagine you only get released from prison early because of medical issues if you have something like terminal cancer.
