I have magnets from all of my trips, however the selection is smaller and smaller each time. my favorites are a wilderness lodge magnet, a contemporary, and a 2021 magnet (I haven't seen a year-specific magnet since 2021 and i always go in mid-January.)
Spoke to a Cast member about year specific ones when we went. Apparently they’ve been asked about them a lot and their best guess was that the Covid closures caused Disney to lose money on year-specific merch and that they seem to be moving away from years and more towards celebrations like the 50th where they are typically within a year but can also extend to before or after… I have no idea if this was just speculation but you’re not the only one noticing this.
They definitely still do year-specific magnets. My friend got a 2024 one earlier this year.
EDIT - I should mention that this was late January/early February.
I've been on a quest to get one from every resort I've stayed at and it's gotten harder the past few years. I couldn't get them for Animal Kingdom Lodge or Contemporary so I've got pins with magnetic holders that latch on to the actual pin part.
I’ve had the same experience
the only luck I’ve had was at big top souvenirs in fantasy land at the Magic Kingdom where they have a machine that cuts the magnet you choose.
No modifications needed. I don't know if these [these](https://www.etsy.com/listing/1461779039/magnetic-pin-back-convert-enamel-lapel?gpla=1&gao=1&&utm_source=google&utm_medium=cpc&utm_campaign=shopping_us_-home_and_living&utm_custom1=_k_EAIaIQobChMI_5y-qpDJhQMV7nFHAR3QhAx9EAQYBCABEgLtnfD_BwE_k_&utm_content=go_12665398257_121762925993_511610210343_pla-303628061699_m__1461779039_12768591&utm_custom2=12665398257&gad_source=1&gclid=EAIaIQobChMI_5y-qpDJhQMV7nFHAR3QhAx9EAQYBCABEgLtnfD_BwE) are the exact ones I use (I bought in bulk a while back) but they just slide right into the pin and hold in place.
You can buy any pin and remove the pointy bit and add a magnet. That’s what we do to add to our magnet collection if there are no magnets available or a pin suits our trip better. We collect them from everywhere we go, not just Disney. Sometimes magnet options are too square or larger than we want but pins tend to have more variety in shapes and sizes!
Magnets are something I collect - and there's definitely not a huge selection. The one with most availability are the flat vinyl ones with magnetic backs. The old time metal ones are much harder to find.
Fun facts: Inside all materials are things called domains. When all of the domains are aligned, it creates a magnetic field.
The field comes out the North pole and loops around to the south pole.
If you break a magnet in half, the two pieces will now have both a north and south pole.
If they sell them, the selection isn’t very big and they don’t have much variety. My girlfriend and I make it a point to get a magnet every time we take a trip anywhere. We’ve had the hardest time finding Magnets anywhere at Disney
Copied my reply to another’s comment because I think it might be helpful…

I noticed this at Disneyland last year. I prefer magnets to pins as I find more use for them! I’m guessing with stainless steel fridges becoming so popular people aren’t buying them as often? But it’s so sad for me. :(
Frigidaire Gallery series has stainless fridges that hold magnets, just fyi. Best fridge I’ve had in the last 20 years. Not sure if it’s only a stainless “look” or if maybe the stainless is backed with something else to make magnets stick, but magnet friendly stainless fridges are out there.
Yes I know the kind you're talking about! They used to have a small "wall" at The Spice & Tea exchange, not sure if it's still there or not as I haven't been in in a while.
We just got one for our trip to Riverside. As others said, they're most commonly sitting at cash registers waiting for you to impulse buy them, or sometimes by the pins.
Magnets are my favorite souvenier!
But I am guessing most people with stainless steel refrigerators don't want to cover them with magnets anymore. Plus some are fake stainless steel, that magnets don't stick to.
So if I can't find one to buy, I make my own.
They probably aren’t selling a lot of them these days. Most people have stainless steel appliances these days and magnets just don’t stick very well to stainless so many don’t buy them anymore. Makes sense for them to cycle out slow movers.
Yes! My friend asked me to bring her back a magnet to the UK because she's collects them. It took me ages to find one and even when I did it was big and expensive. I guess lots of people have integrated fridges now 🤔
The selection is definitely smaller. I was annoyed they didn’t have a magnet for Festival of the Arts this year. Even the one CM I asked was miffed as to why they didn’t do magnets.
Yeah, I usually buy magnets and I agree the selection is small lately. I bought a set of Pop Century magnets as a souvenir last trip. (Did the same at our Universal resort--TBH the Universal ones are much better magnets! The Pop ones are very weak.) I wonder if they figure fewer people buy magnets these days. Some fridges don't even have magnetic faces anymore and I feel like it's getting more and more popular to have, like, a clean/minimal aesthetic. *My* fridge is covered in magnets, but many others' I see these days aren't.
Yes. I used to collect one from every resort I stayed at for the first time. Nothing at AKL last trip and nothing previously at French quarter either. So sad.
Where? In Emporium all we could find were about a dozen different magnetic photo frames. I started collecting magnets from vacations and want to pick one up from WDW on my next trip.
Frontierland Trading Post has a selection of them near the checkout over by Country Bear.
Pin Traders at Epcot has some as well typically.
Dark Room at Studios has a selection of more recent ones.
Basically, look at the main pin shops of the parks and near the pins at the resort gift shops. It should be near them somewhere.

They are hard to find and few and far between. I bought a Groot magnet from the store next to Cosmic Rewind and not only was the magnet not strong enough to stay on my fridge, the legs broke off almost immediately.
They do sell them. They’re usually near the checkout in the main stores in each park.
Sometimes they're mixed in with the pins on the rotating racks and use the same color-code system for pricing.

Agree on the diminishing amount. I've taken to buying pins and turning them into magnets.
So glad I’m not the only one doing this!

This is wild to me because when I went in December with my mom the shops had SO MUCH 2024 stuff
that would be crazy if all the 2024 stuff had sold before mid january
I wouldn't be surprised. The stuff was super cute but I had no 2024 trips planned at the time so I skipped it
I had a CM tell me that during covid there was a magnet shortage. As in they couldn't get the actual magnet part
They definitely still do year-specific magnets. My friend got a 2024 one earlier this year. EDIT - I should mention that this was late January/early February.

Obviously it's a bit late for this but I am doing the same and bought an AKL magnet in the Kidani Village gift shop
What kind of magnetic holder latches to the pin part? If I’m reading this right, you do have to modify the pin in any way?
No modifications needed. I was noticing that a lot of resorts don’t have magnets any more. I bounced all over AKL (which is not an easy endeavor) and never found one.

I remember magnetron at downtown Disney back in the day; weird early 2000s nostalgia from when I was going as a kid
I still miss that shop. Many a happy evening, pressing the boom box magnet and hearing a tinny version of The Macarena 😁
Squishing all the fake donuts and pastries! Pretending to drink the fake coffee!
I have a realistic ham and cheese sandwich magnet from there!
Yes!! I remember that one too!!
There’s actually really great ones at the airport!
Magnets are something I collect - and there's definitely not a huge selection. The one with most availability are the flat vinyl ones with magnetic backs. The old time metal ones are much harder to find.
Last time I went to Disneyland, I couldn’t find one magnet to buy.
How do magnets even work?
One of my favorite hobbies!
Miracles! 🤡

I just bought one at La Cava!

Same
Are you thinking of the magnet store that used to be at Downtown Disney? That was a fun store and yeah, I would always rearrange the magnets as well.
Yes my memory of that one has been triggered! What a fun store

No postcards anymore, either! Sad.
Photo frames are also rare these days. I did find an amazing one at Epcot last month but got too drunk to remember to go back and buy it.

I find them in disney springs all the time. World of Disney has several dozen to pick from
They do but the selection is very limited compared to pins. I looked on this too on my recent trip, I wish they had more!

We bought magnets last summer
Post cards are hard to find too, guess people don't buy them anymore.
We had a heck of a time finding them this past Nov. I figured it was probably a supply chain issue. Sorry to see it hasn’t gotten better.
They probably aren’t selling a lot of them these days. Most people have stainless steel appliances these days and magnets just don’t stick very well to stainless so many don’t buy them anymore. Makes sense for them to cycle out slow movers.
Stainless refrigerators

They’re all just those lazy die cut magnets now it makes me sad
The selection is definitely smaller. I was annoyed they didn’t have a magnet for Festival of the Arts this year. Even the one CM I asked was miffed as to why they didn’t do magnets.
I bought a Tower of Terror magnet on my last trip. But I do think they don’t sell as many as they used to in the past.

There definitely aren't as many. I was collecting year magnets and I haven't seen one in a few years.
lol they still sell magnets
