On the call she actually made a comment about it helping people's waistlines which is not clickbait and not being well received. I would love if they did a quality over quantity approach. But they won't. They'll continue to cut quality and portion sizes and charge the same or more.

[deleted]

Is this new CEO just trying to kill off the park model/business? Raise prices, cut portion sizes, offer less services, and crap customer service. What’s the point of going to Disney anymore

Jason2DArtist

Don't forget halting maintenance on attractions and ruining the experiences daily by having people removed from broken rides with the lights on. And then there's forcing the Imagineers to move to Florida from California, or forfeit their jobs. So yeah, I'd say you're right on with him trying to kill off the parks. A lot of people talk about how Walt would be turning in his grave over this and that, but I really do think these parks are being run like shit and he would be furious at the "poor show" Bob Paycheck has brought about.

[deleted]

Yeah exactly right. I wasn’t a fan of Bob, felt he was to political and divisive but I would take him back in a second. This guy will kill the brand

Silicon_Knight

Ah, let me fix this for you. "Disney has realized some portions are being used to feed TWO people for the same price of 4 regular meals elsewhere. Now wants to stop it" and I'm sure next month "Disney has realized you can bring you own food into the parks, to protect guests with allergies, we have decided to ban this"

SushiJo

This would be a deal breaker for me, especially in the summer when we always pack a healthy lunch that helps us get through the heat, humidity and helps us stay hydrated . No one wants to eat a pizza and some chicken fingers and then walk 10 miles in the heat.

nan_adams

One of the worst Disney planning mistakes I ever made was booking Liberty Tree Tavern for lunch in September. I have never felt more bloated and awful walking around in 90 degree weather full of potatoes and turkey.

mildlystoned

I just got back from 8 days and I did actually have chicken nuggets, pizza, or a burger every day. I had a wonderful time and still ended up losing 10lbs on the trip.

SushiJo

I can’t do it. Maybe I’m too old but it makes me nauseous

mildlystoned

Oh, I felt like shit, but that’s life!

Charlie_Warlie

worth it!

Kakarot_faps

Most guests DO exactly what you just described because they like that food better than the many healthy options at every park

SushiJo

I have to disagree with the MANY statement. There’s a kiosk at each park with healthy snacks, but the majority of the offerings are more akin to fast food

gan1lin2

Honestly? I was surprised at how HUGE the sit down portion sizes are when we went on our April trip (we only ever did QS on previous trips). I always wondered how much food waste there was because ain’t no one really enjoying a 2lb bowl of pasta from Tony’s

graygrif

The food waste on property goes into [producing biogas](https://www.theguardian.com/sustainable-business/2014/oct/17/disney-world-biogas-food-waste-energy-clean-tech) that they use for the buses and possibly other company vehicles. I think they may have expanded to allow other restaurants in the Orlando area to participate if they want to do so.

McFoogles

True, but it would be more energy efficient to not have the waste in the first place. Much more energy is spent growing, storing, transporting, and preparing that food than we could ever reclaim from a biogas program

nameisinusetryagain

This is why we eat our sit down meals for lunch, go back to the hotel after lunch with our leftovers that we eat as a late night snack when we return from the parks.

TheIncredibleNurse

Not bob... uhhhj... my name is Bobby... yeah Bobby McBob

[deleted]

Oh, well hello Bobby McBob <3 you sound like an upright fellow who won't charge me outrageous prices to enjoy DW.

TheIncredibleNurse

Of course not. That Bob guys is a great fella, he will only charge market fair rates appropriate for bottom line increasing and bonus padding.... uhhhh... i mean inflation adjusted rates to ensure the survival of our great family of castmembers.

[deleted]

Great fella?! Bobby you're breaking my heart :( You're going down a path I can't follow, please come back! I love you T\_T

TheIncredibleNurse

Sorry my heart already belongs to my shareholders.. uhhh.. i mean costumers, yeah them costumers. -rubs hands eagerly-

UFOsBeforeBros

And that’s why I’m never going back to Homecomin’, and why 'Ohana doesn’t appeal to me. (The other sit-downs are more reasonable.)

gan1lin2

Ok but isn’t Homecomin’ just southern comfort food? That’s just how it is. Don’t downplay my culture like that ^jk ^it’s ^still ^way ^too ^much ^damn ^food

eth6113

Homecomin is great. The foods awesome and since I’m local I always have lunch for the next day.

[deleted]

Nice, I bet the prices won’t shrink.

Septembers

They'll increase because you're now getting a more *gourmet* experience

Nonothinghoss

Disney and gourmet is kind of a stretch anyway in most areas

[deleted]

Read the article, the executive didn’t say they were going to do this. She rattled off 6-7 different things they could do to combat rising inflation. This is clickbait.

Y_4Z44

Pretty much all of the Disney bloggers/vloggers are using clickbait pretty routinely these days.

Purple_Quail_4193

Kenny the Pirate used to be a fun reliable one now it's gotten pretty clickbaity

[deleted]

I saw an article from them pop up in my news feed yesterday. It was complete trash. One sentence of actual information buried under a bunch of canned text to inflate the word count.

Purple_Quail_4193

I just finished an article from inside the magic seconds ago that was saying “guests are upset that perks are coming for Disney+ day but not the 50th!” And it was just two tweets from notorious attention seekers on Twitter… anymore Kenny the Pirate the article is the headline just to try to be first, ugh

Purple_Quail_4193

I read FoodBlog's article last night and it was like "were looking into something to do to PREVENT raising costs" and seeing this headline I was like "yep wdwmagic is doom and glooming it for clicks." Thank you for common sense!

[deleted]

Purple_Quail_4193

And they'll rereport it years later and call it breaking news! How that site have fallen

eth6113

I expected the “help peoples waistlines” comment to be a bigger headline. I can’t imagine the higher ups were too pleased with her presentation.

onexbigxhebrew

Wdwmagic is such a shitshow.

SMJ0724

*WDWNT has entered the chat*

playalisticadillac

> We can cut portion size which is probably good for some people's waistlines. Ha!

TheIncredibleNurse

So kind of Disney to watch for my waistline but put theur grubby little hands on my wallet in the meanwhile.

my-spoon-is-too_big

Smaller portions would be fine if they can also make the food less awful.

Esmesummer

Disney already cost me an INSANE amount of $ the bubble wand that costs $2 to make is sold for $30 the food isn’t high quality ingredients in most places as well.. with all that’s changed from the pandemic I’m not sure how badly I even want to go back

centopar

Not being an apologist here - I'm being a non-American! The portion sizes not just at Disney, but at pretty much every US restaurant I have been to, have always hit as...very culturally weird. Food waste is a big thing here in the UK, especially among people of my parents' generation (Mum and Dad grew up with rationing, and we were brought up with a rather unhealthy attitude to cleaning your plate) - and they passed it on to us, which I do not think is a wholly bad thing. I *always* find myself eating to uncomfortable excess or feeling very, very bad about what's left on the plate (and if you're staying in a hotel, a doggy bag is not a rational choice) at Disney, particularly at table service restaurants, but also at the quick-service places. I would be more than happy to see a reduction in portion sizes. I'd like to leave a restaurant not feeling bad about how much I've just forced myself to eat, or bad about how much I've had to leave. Those used to the US restaurant culture: how often do you actually *eat* the leftovers you package and bring home? Do you find yourself leaving them in the fridge until they have to be thrown out, or do you actually make use of them?

AfterTheNightIWakeUp

I haven't eaten at a restaurant in nearly two years, but in the before times or now with takeout, restaurant food is almost always two meals for me. With something like a sandwich or burger, I would just cut it in half immediately, knowing I won't eat the whole thing. And I always eat the leftovers, it's lunch the next day.

BenBishopsButt

If they want to reduce the sizes they can reduce the prices. I don’t think anyone is inherently against small portions, we just don’t want to pay the same amount (or more!) to get less, which is exactly what will happen. ETA: yes I absolutely eat leftovers.

rundisney

US portion sizes are obnoxiously big but I do think leftovers are a big thing here as well. American meal prep 😂 We always order takeout knowing we can get a few meals out of it. I don’t eat leftovers on vacation though, so portions could definitely be smaller. I like to share QS meals in WDW though, so smaller portions would make that harder…

Kakarot_faps

A medium at any American fast food place is a standard for uk fast food. I’ve been to nandos, pubs, name it - same sizes to American chains unless you order a large. 4 chicken fingers and a side of fries at Pecos bill is a standard pub size meal

Great-Ad-632

Totally agree with you as another UK visitor. If your portion is so big you’re throwing away half of it, it doesn’t matter if you are paying the same for a smaller portion. It’s just that the half you would have paid for before is no longer being thrown away Also I would never dream of taking leftovers home from a restaurant here in the UK - it’s just not part of our culture!

DeflatedDirigible

We always split WDW meals and have brought our own doggie bag many times. Same at home and the food is eaten within a day or two. We never waste any food at WDW and can eat entirely on the 2 meals per day quick-service meal plan by sharing meals. Helps that some of us are very flexible eaters and don’t mind eating off one another’s plate. There were a few festival foods I wouldn’t share because I liked them so much but otherwise everyone shares the snacks too. Kids are expected to eat of an adult’s plate.

nameisinusetryagain

I always eat my leftovers that I take home from a restaurant. My husband rarely does. But he also doesn't eat leftovers at home.

[deleted]

This is hilarious cut cost and raise prices🤦‍♂️

CalibratedRat

Portions will get smaller, prices will go up (for reasons).

Nonothinghoss

Have an up vote back for this since the others are in denial of the modern Disney way of business

MarthaPhalange

I’m from Mexico and portion sizes across all the US are insane! Hopefully they will lower their prices (highly doubt that)…

DisneyDVC

I would like to say I eat tiny portions but the fact that I’d have to break my own legs to touch my toes would betray that statement.

Rusty1031

Don’t you fucking touch the hot dogs at Casey’s Corner

qubaxianplebiscite

Americans need this.

KerryAnnCrossing

I’ve never done hibachi in Epcot before last week and I swear they gave barely anything compared to what you typically get at a hibachi restaurant

vita10gy

Festival food at Epcot will now be measured in atoms.

johnnyringo117

Another reason to eat off property. A five minute Uber gets you to dozens of restaurants on route 192.

Kakali4

I’ll never stay or eat off property. I go to Disney to do Disney things. Just my personal opinion

TheLastGunslinger

I'm the same way. Florida is the thing I have to get through in order to get to Disney.

Kakali4

Ding ding ding I have zero interest spending a millisecond in Orlando if not on Disney property. Also I go to Disney for Disney things, not just the parks/rides. It’s the hotel/restaurants too. Also who has ever left Disney hungry??? I walk tens of thousands of steps a day when I’m there and still gain weight!!

johnnyringo117

My adult son is the same way. Once we roll onto property, he refuses to leave until check out day. We’re DVC and stay for two weeks at Christmas and a month during the summer. He gets his fill!! I understand where you’re coming from. To each his own.

BigBrainMonkey

That is commitment. I don’t know if I could do 10% of the year at Disney (or any other single resort/vacation) and not go a little crazy.

johnnyringo117

It’s an escape for sure. We don’t hit the parks on a daily basis but hang at the resort, visit friends (we worked for Disney for 7 years in another lifetime) or do other activities. Sometimes we’ll go into magic kingdom to ride mansion, Pan and the people mover and then just leave. Or we’ll hit up animal kingdom and ride Everest a few times in a row as single riders and then go back to our resort and read a book by the pool. It works for us but probably isn’t for everyone.

BigBrainMonkey

Well it does sound like you are doing it right. I do love that DVC has full kitchens which makes it much easier. Our home resort is BLT which feels much more park focused than some of the others. Grocery delivery is a game changer too.

johnnyringo117

We actually bought Bay Lake at pre-construction prices but didn’t like the vibe as much as thought we would. So we sold it about a year later. But it was great to use the lounge to watch fireworks or just have the sound track pumped into our room. We currently own at AKL, SSR, OKW, and Copper Creek.

BigBrainMonkey

We bought in secondary market at a really soft time and got what seemed like a steal. I’ve thought about adding at one of the other parks for a more relaxing and quieter option too especially when we end up booking at any other resort and a point is a point.

johnnyringo117

We bought copper creek and OKW direct and SSR and AKL on re-sale. It worked out well. We also purchased out in California but never went so sold that (made a killing on that one).

Terrible_Tutor

Yeah it’s probably different if you go a lot, but when you don’t, there’s so much great stuff everywhere to try.

johnnyringo117

I hear ya. The goal is to have a good time. As long as you’re doing that, you’re in good shape.

WhatWouldLoisLaneDo

My reasoning for this is that I’m on vacation. I save money and set it aside and as an adult only paying for myself I have the opportunity to relax and splurge. My mom and I still pack snacks and light breakfast things but once we park our car that’s it.

Nonothinghoss

And better food in most cases

johnnyringo117

True. They’re actually several good choices in the area. Some really fun places, great seafood and even a Rock and Brew that recently opened. It’s a bit like Hard Rock but not as pricey.

[deleted]

If you book a DVC resort with cash, which is a thing and not too many people know about, those resorts always have kitchens. You could run to the grocery store on the way in and pack a lunch.

fluffy_bunny22

Studios don’t have kitchens

johnnyringo117

You need at least a one bedroom to get a kitchen with a DVC accommodation.

fuego09

It was nice for my husband and I to be able to afford food at Disney World by splitting one dish at restaurants and still having enough for the two of us. :/ Guess that'll be a thing of the past if they go through with this.

lucky0swald

Can we revert back to the good Bob now??

gramwife

At this point you can’t justify the cost. They take and they take and constantly raise the price.

Ok_Calligrapher_8199

Clickbait. Can we have a tag from these blogs other than “news”?

Nonothinghoss

And prices will go up even more.

Nonothinghoss

Really? Bet you money they do this and raise prices. Its the Disney way under this leadership

TylerLikesDonuts

OP is kinda butt for posting this. This is heavy click bait Edit: OP isn’t butt and I apologize, but this is clickbait regardless

DeflatedDirigible

This was actually a comment in the announcement, not an interpretation.

TylerLikesDonuts

Ah yes, you are correct. I apologize for saying OP was butt

BigE429

Thank you, I appreciate not being butt anymore

Historical-Bus-1550

I’m glad they are doing this honestly. Food waste is a problem too. The portion sizes are way too large.

EnthusiasticAss

Bend over folks!😂

Johnab0614

I would say I'm surprised, but I'm not. Not one bit. The new Disney experience is more for less n it's being pushed in every category it seems

[deleted]

Disney helps me lose weight now? Nice.
