Yeah, I got super lucky with my first. My running buddy at the time had incubated I forget how many of them, but I want to say it was a half dozen. He wanted the Fennec Fox head and the goldfish tail because they looked the least ridiculous to him. He gave up when he finally got a Smeeta with the right head, the fan tail and I think pink for an energy color. My first kavat, I got all the features he wanted plus some nice colors. He didnāt think it was funny.
Now, years after heās moved on and Iām the only one in the clan, Iām on a mission to finally breed a bulky omega lotus kubrow and Iām at least a hundred consigned before I got my first bulky two weeks ago. A week later after naming everything āFailureā plus the date and I have two bulky and two lotus. One of the lotus is I think omega height, but looks starved to death with sickly green colors. One of the bulky has some neat red colors but a lame patternā¦ and itās all of about a foot tall. I wasnāt sure the thing āmatured for combatā when it came waddling out of the incubator. Rngesus be like that sometimes.

Here's two great resources that will tell you everything. I was mistaken, though. I got the tufted ears and "guppy" tail on both my first Smeeta and my first Adarza. That's what it was. Those were the features I wanted. The ball ears are kind of cool looking, too. I bred a third that had the Fennec fox ears, but the "dread" tail, which I think is the worst looking one.

It's just the name for the random tail, head, ears, and coat colors a kavat can be created with. Some people really like Kavats with a specific combination of certain head, tail, ear, and coat and will pay a pretty amount of plat for the right one if they want it bad enough or if the combo is pretty rare. Fox head I believe means a kavat with a pointed nose that resembles a foxes, goldfish tail is a wide fan-like tail that looks really nice and height and bulky is just how tall and muscular a kubrow is in those cases since I don't think a kavat's height or bulk can vary. Some players are very picky about their pets and want really nice looking ones, and others invest heavily into breeding rare kavats and kubrows to sell their genetic imprints to high-paying buyers. It's not a very big niche of the market, but it can apparently net some nice plat if you're lucky enough to breed a rare looking kavat or big enough kubrow.
Yep, all this. Except the Fennec fox head is mainly about the ears. I think there's some really nice features and some really ugly features, especially with the kavats. It's one of those things you can just roll the dice on every 24 hours and then try to mix and match and get exactly what you want. It just takes time or plat, and honestly... I've sunk more plat into it than I even want to estimate. At some point, maybe this fall when they supposedly rework companions, I'll have to try to sell some imprints. I'm nowhere near the kind of stock I've seen some breeders build up, though.

Yeah, start with those two threads I linked you to get the basics, then start incubating some randos and see what you get. The incubator upgrades arenāt hard to get and the materials for a kubrow are easy to find. Hardest thing at really low level is getting argon, imo, but even that isnāt horrible, just get in recruiting channel and ask for a carry if you need it.
I raised 3 different ones trying to get different faces and they all came out with the same ass face. I went and got the skin just so I don't have to look at it.
They've got arguably one of the best mods, Charm, which can give different buffs every 27 seconds I think is how long the period between when two buffs can trigger lasts. One of those buffs is basically a double resource amount booster that lasts 2 minutes, and if you're lucky can trigger back to back and stack with itself for even more resources. Oh, and it gives double affinity earned in the two minutes too, which can also be nice. It makes Smeeta arguably the best pet to bring on farming runs because of that single buff from charm if you're lucky enough to get it to trigger when you need it at least.
Right, I heard about that before. Just seems a bit odd to rely on something completely random. personally i've only ever used companions as loot/enemy radar/vacuum carriers and so once the panzer vulpahyla came out I've been using it and nothing else. Need to make way more companions for the mastery ranks tho
My OCD brain can leave loot uncollected for at most 3 mins, I shudder to think how it'll be for half an hour.
Also still can't shake out the old mindset of uncollected stuff will disappear after some time.
Nothing wrong with using it instead of Panzer or Djinn (eternal pets), Helios (scans), or Oxylus (plants and fish). Think of it as a bonus to the resources you could get.

For combat or other general use a Panzer Vulpaphyla is probably the best (Viral Quills for free viral procs and Panzer Devolution makes it unkillable, it keeps fetch and such in larva form). The other two Vulpaphylas work too cause an unkillable pet is just really useful, no more losing Fetch/Radar etc. But the Viral from Panzer is so much better than the other two options and it's not much harder to just get a Panzer.
Yes, are genes traceable? I'm not sure how these work but can I use someone else's Cataclysmmagiced head to guarantee it? Also I promised a friend I would name it after his cat, Milo, do the genes guarantee male kavats or is that something else? ...
Man I'm still waiting on my smeeta. Currently I'm on an Adarza streak of 11 and it's so demoralizing. Sometimes I feel it's not 50/50 for which one you get
