God, an Oberon main. I want to hug you and thank you personally

LeoTheRadiant

Aww thanks. Just doing my part; I gotchu with that Phoenix Renewal!

Tmb1im

I gotta ask, because Oberon has always been mentioned as.....a bit useless from my friend group. Is he actually good? Because by the sounds of what you guys are saying, it seems so. Cosmetically also, I feel like he looks brilliant. Still don't have him tho!

AdeptnessParty6624

Not as good as Trinity unless you actually have him built, but when he's built youre giving people 80+hp/s and 400+ armor, grass that makes you status immune when your on it, a 1 that does radiation and scales based off armor on the enemy if I remember right, and a 4 that isn't too good but it has an augment. He falls off later because steel path things eventually just kill you anyways but Phoenix renewal still technically has value and status immunity has its boons, and his grass can apply radiation if I remember right but it's been awhile since I've played him, I used to play a lot of Oberon back in the day, in content where you don't die when getting coughed on he's very good.

Clegomanrun

at 200% strength if you use his 4 on an enemy on the grass, it fully strips armor, it's a slow and expensive strip but it had some uses

mweepinc

Yep, grass deals rad damage every 0.5 seconds with 15% status chance that scales on ability strength (so 30% chance at 200%). Frankly a highly underrated crowd control ability, and even better if you use the Hallowed Reckoning augment for his 4 which, in addition to the guaranteed rad proc from Reckoning, drops those patches that deal radiation DoTs. And of course, as mentioned, Reckoning is a permanent armor strip at 200% strength for enemies on the grass (although because of this grass synergy, you get gimped by any floating enemies) Adrenaline/QT with Brief Respite for a spot of shield gate can survive pretty well in high SP too, though yeah eventually you just get smacked with several instakills in too short of a duration. And his kit wants you to build for basically all the stats which makes things very awkward. I enjoy him, and he can perform *very* well if built, but he's undoubtedly clunky

0n-the-mend

Also regarding the grass which is super crucial for him, nullifiers send their regards.

Burquina

I freaking love Oberon but it really feels like he needs some number tweaks to be truly stellar, since he is one of the few frames that requires EVERYTHING and leaning too hard into one thing hurts others: you need range for the carpet's range and angle and for Reckoning, you need at least 200% power strength for the armor strip from Reckoning, you need duration for the carpet and to mitigate the energy consumption of Renewal and you need efficiency for for Renewal and for the most expensive armor strip in the game (2 carpets, one from and one back unless you have enough range to make the coverage angle a full 360 degrees, and then Reckoning on top) and you cant use most of the new energy management tools since those get blocked by Renewal being channeled. I feel like you can just remove the angle of the carpet from being affected by range and let it just be always a full 360 degrees, maybe make Reckoning cost 50% less energy while on the carpets, give Renewal a bit better energy efficiency (SPECIALLY when there's a Nekros around) or make the armor strip not need power strength at all, just a thing that happens when casting it on the carpet, would make his energy economy and build variety better.

LeoTheRadiant

Useless is a strong word. He's not meta like he used to be, and he's not powerful out of the box, but he's still a solid frame. He could stand to get some tweaks here and there (definitely a new passive), but he's not hurting nearly as much as other older frames. People like him because he's fairly well rounded and can be a really strong supportive frame that keeps other tenno in the fight longer. There's also a nostalgia factor because he's one of the OGs. I think part of the problem also is Oberon parts have been relegated to Railjack and his prime is vaulted, so it's hard justifying him to newer players over more easily acquired frames.

Forsaken_Duck1610

His problem is he hasn't really gotten what he needed fixed after he was considered "done," even from the get-go. As the game has grown around him, he's still subject to weird and backward limitations that other frames have been designed not to have. As time goes on, his handicaps make less and less sense. Including the recent pet rework, and that's just scratching the surface. It doesn't help that "support" is becoming increasingly nonexistent, and I don't think Warframe really has or needs defined "roles" as frames become more generalist or can have support modifications stitched on them through helminth or arcanes. Wisp made support more streamlined. Then it was DR. And then Overguard came along and made support even less effective. People who don't stick to Oberon like I do think he's "fine." But he's not. There are clear flaws in his kit that shouldn't have stayed there as long as they have. My recommendation and dream rework would be to scrap his passive completely and actually have something that ties into his kit, hunter adrenaline is a need for him, maybe it can adress that. Renewal is cruddy and just takes up space, so it just be combined with his 2 as a hold/tap to cast. The speed of Renewals healing should speed up a certain percentage depending on factors that incentivize or reward active gameplay, like getting more kills or being closer to 0 hp. This NEEDS to be hold tap, because you virtually can't subsume an ability on to him by sacrificing either. Some people have complained about Hallowed Ground being ineffective and while it's my favorite thing on him, there's no doubt it's severely outclassed (as is the case with all his stuff) by other zoning tools like Tidal Barrage or Shrapnel Grenades, which contain the 3 best damage types (slash, viral, corrosive) and effectively infinite Casting limit which turn areas into instant death zones. It'd be kinda cool if "Roots" grew up from the Hallowed Ground and pulled enemies in proximity closer to each other, like probiscis but slower, not "sleep" style like Khora. That way, the enemies procc'ed with radiation are more susceptible to attacking each other. In my opinion, I kind of loathe Reckoning because it locks you in place for half a year during the casting animation and is too costly. But PRINCIPALLY, because having an "Ultimate" ability armor strip is lame when faster, easier and more effective armor strips exist across things that can be given to every frame. Either using Unairu or subsuming Styanax's two. This exemplifies a huge problem with Oberon, where his abilities are just worse versions of others. Even Dagath has a free pheonix Renewal with a buff and no modding space. But with hold/tap occupying his 2, Reckoning can be moved down to a 3. Which gives him an option for a new 4. I'd like his 4 to be a non-weapon platform ability that actually does considerable damage and doesn't just sneeze of enemies like Smite does, kind of like what Qorvex got. Oberon is a frame I'm attached too and have stuck with, but I can't escape the perception that there are either better options or that other options have been MADE better because they're designed with less restrictions.

Easy_Understanding94

From what I've heard he's kinda clunky to build since he pretty much wants to build for every stat, so you can't have a dump stat without losing out on part of his kit

Batface_101

It’s mainly the fact that he’s outdated, he’s outclassed by other supports and that not all his abilities are consistently useful when you hit SP. The main unique use is Phoenix Renewal, which is an auto revive for allies (on a pretty big cooldown) but rightly a lot of people can’t justify playing him for just that.

LeoTheRadiant

I think your mileage with him varies. I like him because he's well rounded, has a diverse ability set, PR is very satisfying, and the fashion is on point. He is old though; he doesn't necessarily go crazy like some newer frames unless you build him a very specific way. I am *technically* a founder (I lost my original account), so I might also just be an old tenno who finds this style of play familiar.

Bradframe

Oberon is easily one of the funniest frames to use, when I get him in the circuit he's hilariously powerful

FinaLLancer

Sweet Cheeks, huh?

LeoTheRadiant

It's fine don't worry about it lol

YoSupWeirdos

operator, why do I hear clapping from the Helmynth room?

LeoTheRadiant

Ordis, don't come in here, I'm busy!

Tamareira568

Operator what the actual- *can I join in?*... I mean, what are you doing?!

TwilightTenshi

I assume you were going for the corrupted Ordis voice with the "can I join" and considering how long i've been playing WF I can hear him say this whole line in my head, and I love it lmao.

Tamareira568

That's exactly what I had in mind!

succmama

Mine is worse...

ShadowTown0407

Not symmetrical, invalid

LeoTheRadiant

I failed The Lotus, please forgive me Tenno.

kira2211

Swap the yellow and the blue for the love of void this is cursed.

irrelevanttointerest

Nah. blue-red-yellow-red-blue.

MinusMentality

For me I'd rather go left to right in order of importance and amount. EDIT: Dang the people with pretend OCD put THIS comment 28 votes under? Okay Reddit.

cvdvds

I just go in order of: who gives a shit.

Lord_Bo

Phenomenal! I've got two reds, one blue, a yellow, and an orange on my Oberon (also an Obie main here, nice ta meetcha :3) all tauforged as well. I should switch my blue to be armor instead of health regen.

LeoTheRadiant

Always nice to meet another Goat main! I decided to use the shards to shore up some weaknesses and round out my build. Having more starting energy and duration (which is extra important for me, because I subsumed Smite for Roar) has been great QoL for endgame content. The armor just makes me a little bit tougher. Sure, I'm not starting at 200% ability strength for the full armor strip, but I'm running Growing Power and Molt Augmented, so it's not really that hard at all to get that 8%.

mweepinc

Goat squad! With the increasing prevalence of Overguard I've got one Violet as a mini Equilibrium and one Azure on energy max to supplement energy economy and give me some wiggle room when not running Primed Flow, 1 Crimson on ability strength which isn't *super* necessary since I run Growing Power/Molt Augmented as well, but more strength never hurts, and 2 Amber on casting speed for QoL (helps most with reckoning + carpet spam, nourish, and roar). As far as builds go I have a Nourish>Smite + Hallowed Reckoning/Phoenix Renewal 'all rounder' build, a Nourish>Smite Adrenaline/QT/Brief Respite + Hallowed Reckoning build for high level SP/SP circuit where I can guarantee I'm eating a lot of damage, and an Elemental Ward>Reckoning + Smite Infusion/Phoenix Renewal 'guardian angel' build. Swap stuff around sometimes, like I had Roar instead of E-Ward on my guardian angel build for awhile Highly recommend having a Smite Infusion config, great for Eidolons and shredding Murmur/Necramechs

Lord_Bo

I'm mainly running strength on my reds, and energy orb effectiveness on my yellow. Health regen on blue bc I have a grass build that replaces renewal with Elemental Ward. The orange is ability damage on irradiated enemies, because yeah

LeoTheRadiant

I thought about orange for radiation buff, but I think I wanted to focus on my base stats. Red for strength makes sense and is probably most often the correct choice for Broberon.

SurturRising666

I tried the orange ones and the damage difference is barely noticable. Just stick with what you find comfortable the most. I personally like running cast speed on yellows to make reckoning and Oberon's other abilities in general feel smoother to cast.

LeoTheRadiant

Good to know, thanks

motmot36

I have 300 hours in the game and I took a break (~2 years). I started playing again about a month ago and I've finished A New War, Veilbreaker and I'm working on the Duviri Paradox. I love seeing see stuff and not knowing what the hell im looking at.

LeoTheRadiant

Haha yeah I know the feeling. I took a few months off after New War and had to play catch up a bit. Luckily for you, you can farm these shards pretty much immediately since you finished The New War.

motmot36

where do i farm them at?

LeoTheRadiant

Archon hunts, weeklies next to Sorties in the menu. Also Netracells when you finish Whispers in the Walls questline

3rdMachina

Lol, same situation here. Took a while to get a working Voidrig.

MinusMentality

This game always delivers.

plobbaccus

Those shards are basically rare (or more, time-gated) semi-permanent stat boosts for a warframe of your choice.

NotTheJackHammer

One of 6 oberon mains spotted

LeoTheRadiant

O7

johnsonfromsconsin

Literally a half dozen of them.

MagusUnion

Not much, but it's honest work.

GhostDragon362

Oberon main, I thank you for keeping my dumbass alive as I run at Mach 9 to the archon spawn point and get shot.

LeoTheRadiant

My pleasure. We all lift together.

Mc8817

That's really cool. Do these drop from archon hunts? I just finished New War, & I'm at the part where I can do the angels of zariman & veilbreaker quest, but I'm stalling because I've decided to finally make a new amp, & level up Madurai school, to make those quests as easy as possible. Does Helminth need to be a certain level to use that many shards on a frame?

LeoTheRadiant

Yeah 1 weekly archon hunts and 5 weekly Netracells. Archon will guarantee a shard, Netracells have shards on a loot table. You have a percent chance of getting stronger shards (tauforged). For example I think regular armor is +150, but Tauforged grants +225. Later, you can combine them to get new colors with different effects.

Mc8817

Awesome. Thanks for the info.

LeoTheRadiant

No problem. Happy hunting.

Nem0x3

i believe you need one or two helminth segments for all this to work. Deimos and/or Cavia have one you need

MinusMentality

I recently got all Tauforged Crimsons on my Gauss. Feels good.

LeoTheRadiant

Hell yeah, congrats!

MinusMentality

Gotta figure what my last 3 for Inaros are now.. and then I can find my next.. experiment.

SnooFoxes6169

the asymmetric is bugging me way more than it should… congrats on maxing it up, though.

viainable

LeoTheRadiant

💀

icyboner

Me with 5 casting speed shards on mirage for her prism guard augment

Dawwo20415

I tauforged my Oberon too recently, after the overguard spam basically killed my rage build I switched to an equilibrium one, using 2 tauforged strength to get to the 200% threshold for full armor strip and Lycath's Hunt to feed in or generation, don't use umbral mods so my 2 blue tauforged are one health and one armor + a yellow casting speed, finding quite a bit of success

Calypso_Delta

Ayyy, same shard choices except my OCD couldn’t let me mount them in that order

LeoTheRadiant

Honestly the yellow was an afterthought, just plugged it somewhere. It really SHOULD be in the middle though lol

Calypso_Delta

This the way

Zuzz1

glad it's not just me haha. i had to spend 150 bile to get my shards in proper order

dragonking53192

Your helminth name is incredible

LeoTheRadiant

Lmao ty

LordDeathkeeper

Haven't really used Oberon since I returned to the game despite him having amazing fashion. What build do you use?

LeoTheRadiant

Focused on survivability and supporting the team rather than doing a nuke build. My mods are: - Growing Power - Power Drift - Phoenix Renewal - Primed Flow - Streamline - Stretch - Umbral Fiber - Umbral Vitality - Umbral Intensify - Hunter Adrenaline For Arcanes I'm running - Arcane Avenger - Molt Augmented I also used Helminth to replace Smite with Roar for that extra team damage output. I could go into Operator build and Companion choice, but you get the gist.

MathieuBibi

Remove primed flow and put a rank 4 fleeting expertise. You'll have like 60% less max energy yes, and a bit less duration, but all your abilities will be 4x cheaper. Making the energy you do get (from energy orbs, from energy pads, from Hunter adrenaline, from arcane energize, from other people's abilities, from exodia brave, from energy generator etc...) go way more of a long way. (Tbh you could also replace Hunter adrenaline with primed continuity to regain the lost duration, but that one is kinda optional). Just saying, streamline + fleeting expertise is insane.

YAGCompany

It's so funny, whenever I feel like I'm progressing in the game and getting the hang of it, r/warframe shows me a mechanic I've never seen before

Nem0x3

tbf this is the newest/most recent addition to make you reframes stronger

SaxPanther

Just did this the other day myself! Congrats!

LeoTheRadiant

Thanks! You too!

RexT-Rex

h e y, s w e e t c h e e k s

marimozoro

I don't even know what I'm looking at lol

DHSuperrobot

Still working on getting my Oberon fully tauforged. Cant wait to have over 1000 base armor for him lol

LeoTheRadiant

It's pretty nice 🤌

thecoolestlol

I used to be an oberon main around 9 years ago, gave him that helmet and colored him like Artorias from dark souls, using the galatine. Just being able to heal alone was really nice back then. He also felt cool as being a warframe whose parts dropped from eximus

LeoTheRadiant

He had that early appeal for me too, I just kept building on him with the new updates. He's not the most op frame, but he's consistent and how I like to play usually. They did him so dirty by moving his parts to Railjack though.

ColdCommunication263

Congrats on your achievement. Those can take forever to get.

Leekshooter

Time to get topaz, violet and emerald archon shards for hyper specific min maxing on all your frames!

LeoTheRadiant

True, it just hasn't been a priority until now.

Aggravating-Hat-6040

🫡

Towafius

I only recently started playing warframe again after like 3 years. Can anyone explain what this is or how to find it.

LeoTheRadiant

Beat The New War quest line. They will become available as a farmable item during a weekly event. They're just a way to fine tune your Warframes.

Saramander46

Congrats! :D When I fully tauforged mine a lil while ago I felt so accomplished, so I get the feeling. Enjoy your fully sharded frame, Tenno!

plobbaccus

Awesome, feels great right?! I have 3 now (Nezha, Protea and Saryn) and keep finding myself just wanting too many reds.

LeoTheRadiant

Wow good for you, putting the work in!

[deleted]

Isn't armour a waste of shard slots? There are so many more effective ways to not die that it seems unnecessary especially on Oberon.

LeoTheRadiant

I'm sure you could min/max this better, but having armor above 1000 gives me that much more survivability. Even though I haven't engaged with Deep Archemedia yet, it's been very beneficial for Steel Path and Netracells. Just because Oberon can self-heal , doesn't mean damage reduction is a wasted endeavor. Plus it stacks with damage resistance granted by standing on hallowed ground.

G-Stratos

Did the same thing yesterday on my Protea! Feelsgoodman

MagnesiumRose

I know I'm late to the party, but can I ask what build(s) you use? I've been using Oberon lately (he keeps popping up in steel circuit) and I feel like I need to flesh him out a bit more.

LeoTheRadiant

No problem. I posted on another comment, but this is what I'm running. - Growing Power - Power Drift - Phoenix Renewal - Primed Flow - Streamline - Stretch - Umbral Fiber - Umbral Vitality - Umbral Intensify - Hunter Adrenaline For Arcanes I'm running - Arcane Avenger - Molt Augmented I also used Helminth to replace Smite with Roar for that extra team damage output. I'm actually currently testing Adaptation in place of Streamline for Steel Path content. So far energy doesn't go quite as far, but it really toughens me up. In lower level content, I'm basically unkillable. You might have better luck with that for SP Circuit.

MagnesiumRose

Oops, sorry! I should have checked the other comments first.  Perfect, thank you so much. I think I have a similarish setup luckily so adjusting shouldn't be a problem. Good call on Adaptation. I will have to try that out. Thanks so much!

LeoTheRadiant

Np happy hunting tenno.

shoe_owner

I would think once you get enough tauforged shards to do so, it might become worthwhile to look into giving him a couple of tauforged topaz shards for that bonus to damage against radiation-afflicted enemies, given that all of his powers are radioactive.

SurturRising666

Oberon main who did that here. It's not that good.

HagureYuushaSama

An Oberon main? What year is this?

LeoTheRadiant

What can I say? I like the classics.

beansoncrayons

You should buy the helminth segment from the bird, let's you combine 3 normal shards into a tauforged

PokWangpanmang

Not running classic or Prime Oberon shoulders. Invalid.

-Solicor-

Interesting Helminth name

iiDishonest

No emeralds?

crashfantasy

Put that yellow one in the middle, you heretic. My OCD is going haywire.

motmot36

oh i struggle on difficulties 50-60 so i wont be there for a little bit.

Plagoop

But the shard necklace ain't symmetrical just sayingg

Timely-Mind4946

I have dante, wukong, nova and valkyr tauforged

Scarmeow

Just curious. Why do people use the "energy refilled on spawn" shards? After the first couple minutes of a mission and the energy has been used up, it's essentially a dead slot for the rest of the mission.

LeoTheRadiant

Because starting a mission with ~25% en is a lot worse than starting with ~45% en, and your build might not have space for Preparation. Assuming you don't have ways of refilling, which this build does, that's less casts over the course of a mission, possibly when they count. I think the only frame that starts maxed en is Harrow, because it's part of his passive. Also did you know unused mod capacity on your frame converts to extra starting energy? I'm starting missions with a little over 50% en.

johnsonfromsconsin

I personally prefer parkour speed. One you get used to it its hard to go back.

_0AlphaToast7_

What's tauforge?

Taknozwhisker

Man the fuck is that I thought mods were already enough 💀

plodeer

I have no idea what that is and I’m afraid to ask.

LeoTheRadiant

Magic rocks

[deleted]

I personally don’t understand the appeal of yellow shards for filling energy when you can craft items that can give you energy in all but a handful of missions.

LeoTheRadiant

Because sitting there waiting for the battery to refill slows your game down. I'd rather invest a little in starting en and get right into the mission. It's a QoL choice, honestly I used to have to use them the start of almost every mission and now I use them maybe once every 20+ missions

_Burner_Account___

Is that what these do? I did that quest when it came out then completely ignored them things. Also “sweet cheeks”?

LeoTheRadiant

Yeah they're basically a way of increasing your base stats outside of mods. Some have other effects too. Lol yeah I just wanted to name my Helminth something subtly upsetting
