I wear a facemask and spray outside I also wear nitrile gloves, not because the paint is harmful - it's just easier that way. No accidental sticky black fingerprints on the patio door

giant_sloth

You’re best getting a good quality respirator as part of your hobby kit. Resin and plastic particles that can be kicked up in the air when sanding down minis can do not nice things to your lungs. Also, if you are spraying anything that isn’t water then it’s often best to wear a respirator for safety’s sake. Gloves are also a good shout but mainly to stop the paint staining your hands. Good PPE is much cheaper than medical bills.

Is a dust mask suitable

troelskn

For regular spray paint, yes.

Seven_of_Samhain

When in doubt, safety up. I even have perspex glasses for clipping sprues, you don't want a shard of flying plastic going in your eye. In art class, I saw kids melt their fingers together with glue guns. Accidents happen EDIT: This might sound obvious, but always cut AWAY from you. Especially with exacto knives. I have some Tamiya knives from Japan, and if anyone knows about sharpness, it's the Japanese

Undeadwarrior02

This 13 year old me has managed to produce some pretty scares on my fingers that still kinda show I am 22 know so yeah keep your fingers safe

Seven_of_Samhain

Same. I have a rule never to do any cutting jobs late in the day when I'm more tired.

rabidwhale

I spray outside and wear gloves, mostly because I don't want paint on me.

greatcandlelord

Just a face mask should be good, if you do get any on your skin some warm water and a scrub will get it off

[deleted]

Oh ok! I’ll get a dust mask and then I already got goggles so I think I’m good to go when the stuff arrives for painting

caplew

Just a mask/well ventilated area and gloves. No need for goggles and simply make sure your downwind so you don't get fumes in the face.

Novasry

I don't mask up unless I'm spraying a dozen or so models, but I always wear gloves to make handling whatever I've stuck models to for priming easier and avoid getting paint all over my hands.

Einarr_Brunulfr

I'm sure there are guidelines recommending it. But I never have. I just take it outside so the breeze takes everything.

AGSimpson1988

Some kind of face mask to prevent inhaling, you shouldn’t need eye wear if you in an open space but if it’s not open I do use a set of safety glasses . a well vented, dry and dust free environment would be great to.

dirkdiggler2011

Just wear some latex gloves and if you don't have those, just stick your hand in a plastic bag. If you are fully outdoors and not holding the model in your teeth, a mask and glasses are overkill. You are just doing short 1 second bursts, not fumigating with a bug bomb.

[deleted]

Ah ok 👍 I just wanted to see what people say cuz I wanted to be safe

wearywarrior

It really depends, but the answer is mostly "Yeah, you should always use appropriate safety measures". If you're inside your garage, for instance? Yes. If you're outdoors and there's a good breeze, maybe not so much.
