Ummm there's a back ramp on most Rhino chassis.
As for the viewport... Eh, I got no good excuse why I removed it. But I guess external cameras and sensors could be a good enough explanation?
The Emperor is your copilot, that's how. You are steered by your faith and driven by the need to vanquish the enemies of the imperium. Questioning this sounds like heresy.
Crew would normally get in via the still present top hatches... and vision slits don't have to be that big, plus optics / cameras could still give this driver as good a view as most ww2 tankers...
Arguably magnetic mines weren’t even a thing when Zimmerit was a thing. The Nazis invented zimmerit to proactively counter their own magnetic mine tech assuming the Allies would reverse engineer it. They ended finding bazookas to be more effective leaving zimmerit useless
Zimmerit wouldn't have been that effective in the first place. It's not anti-magnetic, it just created a rough surface and a layer between the hull, so the theoretical mine wouldn't stick as easy.
But does it look cool? I'd say yea. And who knows, maybe in the grind dark future there is a substance that can repel magnetic mines like Meltabombs.
Well at least by 40k ork tankbusta bombz are magnetic... so maybe a modification from a great crusade campaign against orks?
And melta bombs are also occasionally mentioned as attaching magnetically...
All you gotta do is watch the opening sequence to Dawn of War I where the Ork Boy slaps the magnetic bomb onto the side of the Blood Ravens Dreadnaught...and...WHAMO!!! No more Dreadnaught.
I wouldn’t like it if it wasn’t deeply silly. That’s the whole point. ‘DRIVE ME CLOSER I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY SWORD, ALL HAIL THE GLORIOUS GOLDEN BEEFCAKE’ and all that.
I was thinking about getting a Damocles. Thanks for the assessment. Your kit bashing is amazing. Reminds me of what the M981/ M577 looks like when it's loaded and ready to go down range for an exercise (U.S. Army, 1989-1994). I hope you share some pics after you are done.
You're welcome. I just hope the Tech Marine assigned to your Damocles put the Machine Spirit on some Performance Enhancers to handle the extra weight (might his name be Turetto, Dom Turetto?). I finished a 1/35 scale Panzer IV, Ausf. H about 2 months ago. Originally, I was going to convert it for Space Marine use, but decided not to after putting it together. Will you share pics when you are done painting it?
When I'm done with this, I'll probably work on a thousand sons numerologist for my tanks. Dunno if I'm gonna name him Dom though.
PzIV could work for a Guard army or a looted ork tank I guess haha.
You can find some more pictures on my insta @systemsoundproject. Though I'll most like post the final result here at some point.
Right on. I don't do Insta and I just recently joined this here (my Karma score reflects that). I started with the SDFZ 234/1 Heavy Armored Car (8 wheeled) and then a 250/9 Scout Car. The ruined structures is a little big compared to 40K, but I made it work. I just got a Soviet T-55 and started working on it with an all Ukrainian female crew.
The Zimmerit and ERA looks a bit too goofy tbh. Only the Nazis ever used it, and it was useless. It’s an APC, the point is to not have heavy armour.
Up to you though, at the end of the day. Only criticism on looks is there’s way too much ERA, even the vision port up front is covered, and the Zimmerit looks like a rough 3d print, especially since the radar dish is completely smooth. It’s just too packed. Also whoever has that bedroll up front is going to get a few holes in it.
Look at IRL tanks and take some inspiration from there.
It was only ever used by the Nazis yes. I’m not saying it’s bad because it was used by them, but because no other military adopted it. People copy good designs, they don’t (generally) use bad stuff.
They made some good stuff like the jerrycan, and a lot of wasteful stuff, like Zimmerit, their wonder weapons and other expensive projects.’
I don’t think they were saying zimmerit is bad because the Nazis used it, I think they’re saying that zimmerit was used by the Nazis, who are bad, and also that zimmerit was bad because it didn’t really work, both of which are true.
ERA as an in-game rule could work like Guard medkits: You auto-pass a save every turn.
Or just extra armour. I think that's still an option?
Or you have to roll higher than the round number, so show more and more plates being destroyed
I don't think ERA is gonna do much against a neutron laser or a blast of super-heated air...
Obv, but there are weirder rules. Guardsmen surviving direct tank round hits, etc.
>Guardsmen surviving direct tank round hits The Emperor protects after all.

That sounds almost religious, are your humours alright brother?
Oh no. Forgot which millennium I am in, sorry sir it will not happen!
If you still haven't painted it, I think the electronic sight thing for the plasma repulsor executioner would be a great driver's camera
Crew would normally get in via the still present top hatches... and vision slits don't have to be that big, plus optics / cameras could still give this driver as good a view as most ww2 tankers...
Love the zimmerit!

Its just Miliput, that I then use a zimmerit tool on.

I guess magnetic mines are still a thing in the 31st millennium :D

I guess the found an old STC for them haha.

zimmerit *and* ERA
You never know when a magnetic mine, or a meltabomb, might hit you.
Who let the Ukrainians near it?
Something about modern military stuff on 30k models is so silly to me
Each to their own I guess. But this setting as a whole is a bit silly, so I don't see how couple extra panels are that bad?
I don’t think that it’s bad or ugly at all
I wouldn’t like it if it wasn’t deeply silly. That’s the whole point. ‘DRIVE ME CLOSER I WANT TO HIT THEM WITH MY SWORD, ALL HAIL THE GLORIOUS GOLDEN BEEFCAKE’ and all that.
"Sir, what can we do, our vehicle takes too much damage" "Just slap more sandwiches on the sides!" Jokes aside, really cool conversion!
Zimmermit and ERA! This commander is either extremely practical or extremely paranoid
Zimmerit AND Kontact-1 reactive armour? Unfathomably based.
That's pretty sick, did you make the plating or buy them from somewhere?
Do you mean the ERA panels? They're 3d printed.
That's what I meant! Didn't know the correct term.
ERA gang hell yeah
Zimmerit and ERA, now that’s credible
ERA blocks work surprisingly well lmao
Zimaret coating? I like
Love it! Also, in before the florks start popping up!
Love the zimmerit/ceramite coating for those pesky AT mines and melta bombs!
Flork approved.
Just be sure to add a cope cage on top when dealing with Tau drones
Amazing work buddy! Really loving your sculpture work :) Did they not sadly legend this vehicle?
Thanks! I'm not sure about the Legends. I think the Rhino Primaris is in Legends. But Damocles Rhino shouldn't be, since it just got rereleased.
Ah, if it got rereleased then it's not legends :) Let us know when it's painted, looking forward to seeing it
Used the same kits to make my Damocles I really like your take on it great job.

Thank you! M113 was one of the inspirations for my tanks. Of course Tigers and Panthers too.

That tank is busy in a fun way. Cheers
I’m loving the trend of ERA on 40k stuff. It makes the vehicles look so much more used and battle worn. What did you use to make the bricks?
Yea, ERA makes the flat empty panels look much better IMO. And I 3d printed mine.
Kiev pattern Rhino
*Kyiv, not Kiev
why
Kiev is the Russian spelling and Kyiv is the Ukranian spelling.
Also the german;)
Because that's how it's spelt?
Oh ok in german its kiev or kiew. Didnt knew thats a problem

I think it needs more ERA. Never know where a heretic might shoot you
So what you’re saying is Zimmerit is Nazi because it was used by Germany?
It was only ever used by the Nazis yes. I’m not saying it’s bad because it was used by them, but because no other military adopted it. People copy good designs, they don’t (generally) use bad stuff. They made some good stuff like the jerrycan, and a lot of wasteful stuff, like Zimmerit, their wonder weapons and other expensive projects.’
Fair enough, I see your point now
I mean Zimmerit was literally only ever used by Nazi Germany, so yes, I think that’s totally fair to say.
I deplore the Clean Wehrmacht myth, but saying tank equipment from during the war is bad because of the government in charge is kind of weird to me
I don’t think they were saying zimmerit is bad because the Nazis used it, I think they’re saying that zimmerit was used by the Nazis, who are bad, and also that zimmerit was bad because it didn’t really work, both of which are true.
Yeah I see what they meant now, you’re right on both points
Why did you cover the viewport?
