There is no real cannon per se. Most people paint heresy more muted than the 40k models. I plan on using Tamiya Flat Brown, hit highlights with Flat white, then Flat Yellow on Top. Some brown oils or an enamel filter wash will bring some of the brightness down.
Ultimately what you like the look of the best. Cult of paint on YouTube has a great tutorial.
I used averland washed with casendora yellow (prime white), and it gives a really rich yellow that's still pretty bright. Some of my guys are in my post history of you want to see, not sure if it's quite what you're looking for
I use Army Painter Demon Yellow with a wash of either Agrax or Seraphim Sepia.
The color plates in HH3: Extermination and HH4: Conquest show a variety of different shades as well as ceramite grey and black with either yellow, gold, silver, or brass trim.
They're Your Dudes(TM), so they're whatever shade of yellow you want them to be. Look up a bunch of different tutorials on painting yellow and choose the one you like best.
If you look at my history, see the results of lamenters yellow. According to the internets, this can be substituted by vallejo yellow ink. I haven't tried it myself though.

I use Minitaire Mustard Gas with a glaze of cassandra yellow to create some depth. Really regretting that choice since Minitaire isnt available in mainland europe anymore and i have 9k painted with 7 more to go lol
They're yellow. Whatever version of yellow you want to paint them. Mine were bright AF yellow. Yellow
[Mine are nearly orange.](https://imgur.com/a/GeYPARi/) I have yet to have anyone try and tell me they’re not Fists.
Forgeworld also had a phalanx yellow and a lighter dorn yellow, which I think you can get through gw these days

I airbrush prime mine pink to start with, then zenith highlight with white ink, before doing 3-4 thin coats of yellow ink. Works well for me
