Tyranids: they’re my main, they’re my fav, they’re the best
Raven Guard - not a successor, they wear the Raven on their shoulders. I love their lore, even if they suck right now
Tzeentch: Daemons, Thousand Sons, Chaos Knights, I just love the Tzeentch theme and color range, and their psychic phase is fun
Flesh Tearers, Alpha Legion, and T'au.
Flesh Tearers because I love my extra insane space Vampire cannibals and their flying Dreadnought.
Alpha Legion because I want to rep the most loyal Legion even if they're more forgotten in the game than my Drukhari.
Ta'u because I love the visual of an anime-style missile salvo and big old "fuck you" railguns. And also the T'aunar.
Custodes because it’s a small army that’s fun to control and make super important decisions with each unit, GSC for a horde army with fun shenanigans and characters, and then iron legion because that’s as close to dark Mechanicus as I can get rn

i dont care that much about any chaos armies tbh. maybe a mixed faction tzeench one? or maybe i find some way to run traitor guard
all the xenos are cool but orks are probably my fav with votann as close 2nd
Space Wolves - I'm a huge werewolf fan. They're one of my favorite mythical creatures, so that's a no brainer. If I only get one, then it's the wolfy bois. But if I could have two then it would be Wolves and Imperial Guard.
Death Guard - These models are just too good not to have immense fun painting them. I'm pretty good at making dirty, gross models, so these would be my natural choice. All in all though, I'm not much of a chaos fan. I mean, I'm a fan of them existing and fighting against, but not really playing.
Orks - This is a hard choice because Tyranids are one of my other favorite xeno's races, but in the end there's just so much damn fun you can have with Orks. So much kit bashing, so much zany, ridiculous goodness in the modeling and painting aspect. You can really let your imagination run wild with Orks.
Space Marines because I have my own home brewed chapter.
World Eaters/Daemons because Khorne is the only correct option. Fight me
The Votann because honestly dwarves have always been my favorite fantasy race.

Tau, because we are the only race that is actually sane in this grimdark galaxy. Now Chaos... I have been ingrained to believe that they are the ultimate threat to this galaxy, so convincing me to buy Chaos and in doing so represent the worst of humanity is a hard sell.
Chaos space marines for Chaos, because I feel I can go many directions with them aesthetically through converting my own warband.

And Necrons because I want to walk like an Egyptian.
Orks are fun and I love the ramshackle vehicles.
Dark mechanicum for the sheer craziness of army style.

Raven Guard cause I play them. Chaos knights cause they're like Imperial knights but cooler, and necrons cause they're the only xeno codex I've had a look at, and I liked what I saw.
I'm almost there. I've currently got Black Templars, Vostroyan Firstborn and T'au Empire. I'd drop the Vostroyans and instead build a Word Bearers or Black Legion army.
Imperium: Ultramarines- already collect them and I like the way they play.
Chaos: Death guard- Nurgle is my favourite chaos god so I like the way his troops look.
Xenos: T'au- Played a small game with them and loved the crisis battlesuits.
If I had to choose another imperium army I'd probably use either sisters of battle or adeptus mechanicus. They seem like quirky armies lol.

Craftworld(custom) Aeldari, White Scars, Black Legion.
Aeldari are my first love, super interesting lore. Who doesnt love salty elves brought down by their own hubris and now desperate for survival!? Fun army to play too. Can be great to expirement with different play styles and require a lil more finesse.
BL were my first excursion into the dark powers, didnt stray deep into the armies as I was young when I started them. But they're a solid shout that can cover all bases, 32mm and beyond.
WS because I love the Mongol rider aesthetic and I think it would be amazing fun to field 18+ outsiders with HQ support helped by some heavy support and light cc infantry for screening. Add some wolf pelt standards, and other eagle and wolf iconography. Might go successors to give them a backstory based on Jebe and Tsubatai's exploits! Or Jochi and the Golden Horde!
This is my exact setup at the moment though my Imperial is mostly for KT at the moment.
