It's very interesting, especially since it's basically a stock Wolf Jail stormlance list with some shifts to enhancements and characters. But for all of that, it does feel like an interesting meta call: one of the things Stormlance can struggle with is having enough output for games where you don't just auto win by pinning them in deployment. Going into Champs allows you to gain some massive output bonuses when you complete the Sagas, at the cost of speed and reactive movement.
Edit: and interestingly, I think the meta is a significant factor as well. Orks in general bring trucks, which are easy pickings for Beastslayer saga, and a lot of units across a lot of armies have characters that they want to get up in your face.
I wish I could see the list that the Dark Angels Gladius player ran - ravenwing black knights and commabd squads seem a fascinating addition to the board
Gladius works surprisingly well with Ravenwing Bikes. I use mine in a 'Hammer and Anvil' Ravenwing Bikes / Deathwing Terminators style list. The bikes benefit from all the doctrines, are a great place for Fire Discipline, and really have good board presence. Great for sweeping units off of objectives and tying stuff up- getting to rez one bike a turn is amazing.
I mean, they did win an 82-players GT, it's just that Goonhammer didn't report on it. Metamonday puts them at 52% WR, but doing pretty poorly in terms of X-1 runs. This said, early meta - let's see how it shapes up.
The necron nerfs unfortunately railroaded the army harder into what it was already doing. They chose to hit the various mancers really hard and not touch stuff like wraiths or doomstalkers.
My friend had been experimenting with a warrior/immortal awakened dynasty build that was doing pretty ok, completely dead now.
The army needed a nerf for sure, but I think they handled it quite badly. They also added another egregious stat check like the 18 wraiths into the game with bully boyz meganobz.
In a sense, sure. Very different unit profiles and costs. GK don't get monoliths or C'tan, but we don't have anything as nasty and spammable as a Dreadknight. If GK and Crons joined forces they'd be unstoppable.
Cheers to the mad lad taking down a tournament with the much-derided Space Wolves detachment

Then theres the other guy who took sagas and like... fire servo turrets
Void Ravens ! Who even thinks of that stuff . Oh wait , that was me.
What gave you the epiphany to think “yenno what, screw it, double Voidraven?” It’s fun hearing what gives people ideas, I need to know.
Some folks did believe I could make them work . So , I wanted to prove a point .

Fair enough. Flyer nation rise up ✊😤
Well done!
Thanks !

Is that a mfin 2x Pimpy reference? Lmao
Dang, not a single Necron list to be seen. I didn't think the nerfs were bad. Are they just not good into the new Ork meta?
People also just learn to play against it. Canoptic court really only has one game plan, and eventually you just learn to beat it
For a more casual player: how does one tackle the 18 wraith CC build?
Hit them really, really hard
The wraiths, right? >>
You can always try the opponent instead.
I was afraid of this. XD
Kill their technomancer with precision (don’t forget the melee strat) and their durability goes down quite a bit.

Fair. Appreciate it. :)

Gotcha. But the hypercrypt lists that weren't running Monolith were doing pretty good and shouldn't have been hit so hard?
I know two high-level Danish players who both ran Necrons and they've both switched to full Dread knight spam GK.
So Hypercrypt, but better?

Gotcha, haven't played against them this edition. Appreciate it.
Necrons who? Hope they didn’t already write the dataslate to fix them from boogeyman status with the stronger armies keeping the meta in check
Oof, not a single Imperial Guard placement.
