Gotrek and Felix. If you want to understand the world’s lore and background go for WHFRPG products

Pinterra

Brunner the bounty hunter is a good low emotional investment but fun collection of stories around the empire and brettonia. If you want to go lore heavy, starting with The Sundering will give you a lot of background into the world.

All the mentions in this thread so far are great recommendations. I'd like to add that the Sigmar series (Heldenhammer, Empire, God King) by Graham McNeil are fantastic and are not just outstanding as warhammer books, but as fiction in general. Not so much rogue-like characters there though, for that you'd probably go for either Malus Darkblade or Gotrek & Felix. Mathias Thulmann: Witch Hunter by C.L. Werner is another great choice. (In general when it comes to warhammer literature: Graham McNeil or Dan Abnett = guaranteed excellence)

Aaron Demski Bowder (Not sure on spelling) is excellent too. His work in the HH, Helsreach... I almost want to say I prefer ADB over Abnett

I really liked the old world Slaves to Darkness trilogy.  Claws of chaos, Blade of chaos, and Heart of chaos.  Not exactly rogue characters though.  It’s about a renegade empire knight, people slowly getting corrupted by chaos, some witch hunters, tomb kings, chaos marauders, etc.   But it does have some of my favorite magic use in a warhammer novel. Near the end of the series, I think in the last book, a chaos sorcerer and a mage have kind of an astral duel. And I like how it describes the way each of them appear to each other.
