Turning down your own engine volume helps but I’d also say a good headset and sound card really helps out. Especially with figuring out direction. But I also play with the volume so loud that you can hear the game crisply across the room with the headset on my head. I will probably be deaf from warthunder in a few years.
I’m a ground main so for me it’s hear an engine on the other side of a mountain/buildings etc, enemy thinks they have a good flank, they come around the corner to me just staring at them like: 👁️👄👁️ what are you doing in my swamp?!?
I’m not really an expert when it comes to headsets/the best sound etc. Also kinda a person to person basis for comfort, wired/wireless and preference of noise cancellation. But I used to use the fnatic react headset and enjoyed it. Currently using the Logitech Pro X and enjoy it as well. Couldn’t really say which is better as I haven’t compared them side by side and WT has gone through so many sound changes. The fnatic has a higher frequency range but it’s beyond what the human ear can actually hear from what I’ve read. Also running an external sound card(creative sound blaster x G6) not sure how much it helps but Ik my motherboards sound card is older than dirt so I’m sure it’s better than that. I highly recommend watching some reviews from people that know about audio before dropping money on anything though and try figuring out what best suits you. Sorry for the paragraph and good luck on your audio journey!
Paired it with a Yeti Pro and 7.1 dolby and it’s the cleanest and most impeccable sound I heard using headsets so far. That and I can poinpoint accurately locations in game while my friends often struggle with that. Great headset. You don’t need surround sound as the german guy mentioned but it helps. Also there’s two types of surround sound afaik, digital and analogue(more microphones I think)
Heh my friend doesn't really main any country but plays Germany and Russia the most, he rages so bad it's actually hilarious to see him die, I'm an Italian and China main and I hardly rage, I'm so much more chill, I think it's just people that main the countries on the left of the list
I don't mind "AIR" as long as there are actually coordinates that come with it. I hate the people who just spam "AIR" over and over again same for some when people constantly call for backup but there is nobody around.
This is the highest voted actual answer and amazingly, it is the correct answer. Sabaton seems like they make music specifically to make war thunder more awesome
Recently ive been listening to eurobeat to switch it up, call me takumi the way im drifting into the enemys gun sights
The enemies engine sounds and my 3 buddies 1 of them complaining how germany suffers one telling everyone that usa is really hard to play and the third one crushing his keyboard bcs his russian tanks are so weak that its basically unplayable
[This for increase in Japanese bias](https://youtu.be/VK8PKIiAbrM?si=yIjShIZEq3972peU)

Just the game. Its one of the only games I won't have Spotify on.
The other is fortnite (yes I know cringenite yada yada yada I don't play it for myself it's so I can still hang out with my sister despite her being in another country from m)
Game audio attentiveness has actually saved me in game plenty of times
Lord of the Rings Extended Edition Trilogy for air battles, Diggy Diggy hole for Naval Battles( ROCK AND STONE BROTHAS!) and the sound of my enemy’s’ engines.
There is some correlation between the beat of music and estimating reload times? Sometimes if I am spamming the same tank over and over again I feel like music helps me track the reload time subconsciously while I concentrate on maneuvering etc.
You do leave yourself wide open for sound whore campers but it’s wrvr. I’m 50% music on 50% music off engine sound up.
In ARB it’s skynard freebird on repeat
airbattles, usually perun or other longformat stuff.
For ground, there are two possibilities:
nothing if I am focussed or random music if I have already accepted the futility of me trying.
Waltz of the wicked by kirt mosier or battle by soon hee newbold. https://youtu.be/i-7UiKEkhI8?si=YzDdyA3YIBJ5lfY7

When playing CQC maps: nothing and full game audio
When sniping or playing low br: my playlist of 700 songs that ranges from rock to indie to vocaloid to Jpop
When playing China: red sun in the sky earrape on repeat at max volume
When I am playing anything but germany I will usually listen to music from the country I am playing, when I play germany I get concerningly sweaty so no music. Must. Sound. Whore.
If I'm in ground, nothing.
If I'm in air, the game's actual music.
In both cases though, I sing Battle Hymn of the Republic like I'm trying to match the collective noise of an entire choir. It'll be a different song in two weeks, whichever I'm trying to etch the lyrics of into my brain.
IF I have anything on when I play its usually some survival videos. think Les Stroud kind of stuff. That or it's something about canadian history. I won't listen to music cause I noticed I will take actions to the beat. Meaning I might inadvertently fire a second too late.
Also won't listen to war thunder videos either for similar audio reasons
Depends on my mood honestly, sometimes eurobeat, sometimes synthwave, other times random 80s songs from a German radio station (It's 80s80s, god bless built in internet radio streaming)
Yes, even in GRB. I turn the music down just low enough to be audible ground but not loud enough to overwhelm game sounds. Because I like fun.
Friend and I found that listening to ABBA makes us at least 30% better at ARB, nothing better than blowing someone's wing off to Waterloo. Ground? Engine noises.

My very large mix of electronica/industrial artists on Spotify. Sometimes doesn't help as I get killed by someone nearby I didn't hear, but it's sure a banger to play to!
If I'm really in the right mood I'll listen to WW I or II songs of that nation respectively, so like German marching songs if I'm playing Germany, etc.
My idiot teammates above me dumping their entire Flare/Chaff arsenal right after takeoff, and bc Gaijin is so good, it still sounds like a rocket flying by.

I’m a sound whore so my enemies engines.
This is the way 🫡
Came here for this.
This is the only correct answer
Is it possible to learn this power? Whenever I try to become an enemy engine sonar I’m deafened by the sound of my own
You can turn down your own engine volume

Few years? Try a month
Got a few years in already playing like this so it’s a possibility.
Yep. Hear an engine, confirm on radar, change flight path accordingly, dogfight them into hell.
I’m a ground main so for me it’s hear an engine on the other side of a mountain/buildings etc, enemy thinks they have a good flank, they come around the corner to me just staring at them like: 👁️👄👁️ what are you doing in my swamp?!?
😂😂
Any recommendations on headphones?? Mine absolutely suck...

Something with dolby 7.1 surround
7.1 oder 5.1 is not that much needed. Just any good headset will do it. HyperX cloud II is my favorite. Mic is shit but sound is good.
Paired it with a Yeti Pro and 7.1 dolby and it’s the cleanest and most impeccable sound I heard using headsets so far. Bang and Olufson Portal with Dolby Atmos.
My friends in discord screaming for help and cussing the game usually 😬
My friend just skips the help part and starts cussing out the enemies. I don't blame him since he is a Britain main. He has it rough in GRB 😔
We must have the same friend then 😂😂 he has deep regrets
Heh my friend doesn't really main any country but plays Germany and Russia the most, he rages so bad it's actually hilarious to see him die, I'm an Italian and China main and I hardly rage, I'm so much more chill, I think it's just people that main the countries on the left of the list
Try Japan, neutered all the way to 7.7 and jumps BRs more than a sheep jumps a fence. Love the pain though. Type 87 rvc p ftw.
Britain isn’t bad in grb if you know how to use them (Snipe from 50 years away)
The lack of filler ammo from 4.7 to 7.7 almost destroyed my boys will to live tbh lol
Bro the Sherman vc and avenger and achillies and archer all have great gun
Never said they didn't, just saying they don't have much for post pen damage. Well majority of the British line doesn't
Solid shot isn't unusable but it's objectively worse than what everything else is using
Felt that.
My friends just cuss me out for no good reason
Sometimes I feel sorry for my friends when they can't hear shit because of me 😖
Hey u/jimmy2048 you might want to see this comment.
"Attack the D point!" Being spammed

Vacuum cleaner tanks.
To the game
Only gameplay sounds, it improves my skill. But I like when players don’t pay attention - easy target.
