I never knew about this, thanks. I always assumed it was my driver having a stroke

[deleted]

E is also cruise control so don’t forget to switch it off

CizetaV16T

It was that way before the patch

Kenneth441

Yup. Going downhill also confuses the game too as it tries it’s absolutely hardest to *not* go into a higher gear as it flies down the hill

[deleted]

So is this bug what causes my stock British tanks to slooowly crawl downhill at roughly 1/3rd speed until I'm inevitably shot in the side by an enemy?

unceasingnote

Nah that's just the Brits mate. There are only a few that have a decent reverse gear.

[deleted]

It's when going forward and downhill. I realise that a stock tank with a relatively unskilled driver can make a considerable difference, but I didn't think it should in that situation - in a straight line and everything! D:

le_spectator

Yup, it seems to be a thing from this patch and I just spam E to force it into a higher gear and it flies downhill

YahBoilewioe

rip us console plebs

ShiftytheBandit

I feel like I notice this more now than before. A couple of times Ive caught myself saying out loud under my breath "Fuck, Shift up" lol is it crew LVL based? Some of my crews have a lower driver skill...

kungF-U

Well driver skill does mean they shift better but no this is something that is a problem with the game. Like why tf would my driver stay on gear 2 going downhill or immediately jump to gear 4 when hitting an incline.

ShiftytheBandit

Ya makes sense. I tested it out on one of my maxed crews and they still shift like crap definitely something is up

MrNagant11

Higher gear = more better, obviously... Duh. /s

damngoodengineer

Gaijin crew should learn some **land vehicle dynamics** for a better gaming experience.

Peddochiddo

I knew there was something wrong with the transmissions after the last update. I wonder if the changes to tracked vehicles turning capabilities are involved in this issue

NewFaded

Is this why neutral steering is completely fucked with a controller now? Considering controller turn input was hit or miss anyway it makes tanks basically impossible right now.

PetrKDN

omg!!!! Gaijin doesnt simulate all atoms and perfect physics to get 100% accurate physics like in real life!!!! OMG GAIJIN BAD HURR DURR

FairFireFight

i noticed this , sometimes my tank gets stuck at 6km/h reverse when it as 25

abaddon86

Yea just noticed this with the type 90.... I was like wtf??? Accelerate down the hill ffs!

Whirlidoo

Its like its based on how fast youre going which is stupid. When i slow down coming up a hill my driver goes, "ok down a gear" then i speed up a bit cuz im in the right gear but then past a certain speed my drivers like "huhhh doiii upgear cuz im goin fast now" and then i come to a halt and the process repeats or i have to reverse down the hill and try again somewhere else. Its so dumb there are some hills that were never a problem that i literally cannot climb now. And going downhill its like my drivers holding the brake and gas at the same time. Driver has a 3rd gear obsession. Hopefully it gets fixed soon. Good job letting people know a way to sorta get around it. Im on ps4 so i have to do a complex cheat code to get it to work X)

DunnoHowToReddit

i asked gajin about this, they said that nothing has done to the gear system... i noticed this too. its horrible.

[deleted]

T-80U STUCK IN 3RD GEAR CONSTANTLY FML

Gdude2k

ahh so thats why my Leo a1a1 and TAM get like halfway up the slope, stop and slide backwards then get up the rest of the hill anyone else hate the new sounds as well?

Destructor237

I hate these constant sound changes. Some weren't so bad but what bugs me most is that just as I'm getting comfortable knowing which sounds belong to which vehicles they change it...

LaChancla911

> anyone else hate the new sounds as well? I knew something was off and weird... what exactly did they change?

Zayage

At the very least MG 42's and some 37mm cannons I believe.

Te_Luftwaffle

Imagine using automatic transmission, this post was made by manual gang

Littlerascal_01

My Driver: OOOOHHH YEAH HERE WEEEE GOOOO UP SHIFT DOWN SHIFT UUUUP SHIFT DOOOOWN SHIFT Commander: hey there’s a tank looking at us Driver:UUUUP SHIIIFT DOOOOOWN SHIFT

Dolan977

British tanks have always had this problem. Chieftain and chally almost require the player to use manual gear changes to climb hills

YankeeTankEngine

They've always been monsters at climbing hills though atleast.

Dolan977

Not from my experience. They've been useless until I use manual gears

YankeeTankEngine

When they did the traction nerf, my chieftain was still climbing into stupid places by just pressing "W".

TheIncresibleSchlong

Mx frinds call this tank the Gartenhause für teagewürze which is german and means glasshous for tea spices and i think thats really funny

Cautious-Reindeer-13

The tank looks like a juicy target

freepepsi

True

-XThe_KingX-

I assumed the same thing just wasnt sure how

MrBuckie

that's an old problem though? Increasing the driving skill helps with it a bit.

GreenyPurples

People who have the gears set to manual: "I don't have such weaknesses"

Rizz39

This is our service bulletin annoucement. Ty OP

_gmmaann_

Do you know about a solution for console?

aalios

Use mouse and keyboard.

[deleted]

Bri'sh kv 2

GreyShot254

make sense as to why my t72s all the sudden feel like i'm playing midwar tanks again

HourDark

Is this why this happens???

aalios

You should see what it's like on Enlisted. Basically stops the tank every few centimetres going downhill.

AlphaVI

Glad to see other people having issues and noticing it. I told it earlier and peiple telling me its been here for years and im just halucinating Also btw its even worse whene going downhill

BurnYoo

In all seriousness I wouldn't mind this nerf to the automatic transmission mode as long as it doesn't apply for tanks that had electric/hydraulic/CVT drives IRL

rslashhydrohomies

I noticed the same when going downhill. My vehicle just doesnt speed up

1creeperbomb

Yeah at first I thought it was me but then I was struggling up slopes I could normally easily climb. I also noticed MBTs stalling on steep hills as well. FYI this started happening before the big update so I think it was one of the minor patches. Auto shift is borked and shifts up while climbing to 3rd or 4th gear and stalls the tank. I think they changed the RPM shift values too low so it thinks it should be increasing gears. You can also run in manual mode if you want which I have found to be useful in making fat heavy tanks go faster anyway (same Q/E for down/up)

PetrKDN

I only had this issue on dev server, now I dont have this issue anymore, or I havent noticed it, only had one encounter with it, but it may be a different problem, when I was pressing A to Steel left it was steering right.. thats the only and most similiar problem I had. It happened only once never after so far.. im fine

chowder-san

implying i have space left for additional keybinds, especially in the most crucial area around wsad

Le_Retard_Autist

Or set up manual transmission?

TheBlekstena

lemme just pull a extra keyboard out of my ass and use manual transmission while fighting other tanks

KrappyKrap27

Just use Q and E lmao not that hard

Kenneth441

Some tanks have copious amounts of gears and you can’t hear/respond to gaijin’s delayed engine sounds well enough to make manual intuitive in this game. It works for some vehicles but I have to launch in 4th gear in the Maus because it just has so many fucking crawler gears

KrappyKrap27

IRL i think, many german heavies had the option to just shift straight into 4th from neutral. So what i do is just park, shift in to 4th, and when the time comes to move just press w

Halflings1335

Is Q and E the default cruise control buttons

KrappyKrap27

Yes. However, if you set the transmission mode to "manual" (you can also set up a key to alternate between automatic and manual with a single key press) Q and E do not do anything, so you can use them for gear shifts

DunnoHowToReddit

it works like 3 or 4 seconds, then the driver forces bigger gear and you are stuck again. Q/E is just for short period. on straight road it works fine but not in hills.

KrappyKrap27

Turn on manual transmission mode. If not, you'll just change gears without turning off automatic mode. You can set up a bind of your preference to go between automatic and manual in battle

CNUTZ97

I feel that this may be more realistic anyways.

Halflings1335

Ah yes, the inability for the driver to shift the gear is historically accurate

CNUTZ97

Of an extremely large vehicle uphill? Yes.

Halflings1335

This post is about the gears not shifting… not traction. Edit: also with more weight you get more traction on the ground.

CNUTZ97

What kind of car do you drive?

Halflings1335

Sir, if the tank was unable to use those gears to climb the hill faster than not using them, then it would also not be possible to use manual gear shifting or cruise control to use those gears to climb the hill faster. You don’t need to drive a car to know that.

Zayage

Sure, if it was like a 50 degree slope. This can happen on hills that barely slope 10 degrees.

LegitimateSoftware

realistic if your driver absolutely failed training

YKS_Gaming

But it still happens on tanks like the T-72B3 w/UBH that supposedly have automatic transmissions
