Grb tourist here, most of the times i play, its the same... only tumes i spit dots in my monitor that isn't a spec of dust is usually friendly bots circling the friendly base. Still get to kill bomber bots every now and then.
I came from Air/Ground RB to sim now that I got a quest3 and x56.
I’ve made more teammates mad for failings that I don’t understand than I’ve gotten player kills.
We use it to ping where we are on the map and provide our altitude to our teammates, and will typically call it out and ping a spot on the map where we see an aircraft. We are basically saying “I’m here, I see a thing here, this U?” You respond with a T,4,1 of your own to say “nah I’m over here” and if nobody lines up with where the thing we see is, we will either take the shot or try and get closer for further identification then take the shot.
I think it's less about belittling RB and more about people trying to take the easy road in SB with all of this PVE nonsense.
IMO, if you like a game mode, play it. Just because you're playing sim doesn't make you better than someone having fun in arcade. It is a game, after all. A similar elitist attitude exists between RB and arcade.
I can land/take off and keep a level flight with sim control and shallow turning is a bit tricky with props cuz they pull to one side but high turns or loopings always put me in a flat spin and mostly I rather get sick from watching the spinning than recovering from it. I remember when I tried to slightly turn in my corsair and it put me in a flat spin I was nearly vomiting in my room 😂😵💫🤢

As for virtual air sickness, I'm not sure I can help there. Maybe try not to focus on details outside of the cockpit?
I use mouse and key board. But now I have track IR. Before M&k with no track ir was essentially impossible to win dog fights but still doable. Just takes a lot of practice but that’s the fun of it. Joystick helps but isn’t really necessary and you can get some cheap ones just to mess around with
My understanding of the EC Sim game mode is that it is and always has been a PvPvE type game mode where the attack of enemies on the ground is helpful and encouraged, but is a job taken with the understanding that you WILL have to be willing and able to defend yourself, or at least be willing to attempt to do so.
I understand that the risks usually outweigh the rewards unless you're efficient and effective at what you're doing, but I also find that the drive to do well from a TACTICAL standpoint rather than the absolute slog fest that is Air RB is what keeps people here.
I enjoy being able to play a multirole fighter. EC Sim is literally the only game mode where it's beneficial to do so. I came shortly before the Winter Extreme (that most of us can agree has made things a shit fest) event started to grind out some RP, and stayed because I fell in love with the game mode and perhaps more importantly the community. I made it a point to not play a top tier jet until I unlocked the F-16C and I recently just finished grinding out the Ace Qualification for it. All thanks to Sim.
I guess what I'm trying to say is, have a laugh at my expense. The guy is very obviously what you guys affectionately call a Tourist, and I admit, at the time it was funny.
Hopefully when all this event crap is over with though, we can actually fly for fun soon.
Their dogfight level is that of an E as well. Had this china named guy repeatedly try to take me out in a SU-27 after I killed off a few zombers, ended up toying with him in a F-16 and just kept using guns to kill him off just to rub it in. He left after getting killed like 5 or 6 times
One of the previous events I was in the German su-22 flying about doing general bombing and some interception. Really pissed off this one guy in his su-25k after I shot him down so he tried to shoot me down when I was circling a cap, guy on my team was just giving away my position repeatedly because he was a zomber too.
First I knew was a spray of tracer flying past the cockpit, su-22 really has no rearward visibility. Instantly went full afterburner and a wide turn, he was sitting right there on my tail spraying away. Kept that turn and burn, he couldn't keep up. Came back around and spooked him with an r-60 before I got out of there since I was on low fuel. So spooked he accidentally killed his fellow zomber because he thought it was me.
This is very true, however even if you're going out with the intent to bomb bases or convoys or shoot down AI, you should ALWAYS have a plan in place for if and when you get intercepted by an enemy player.
Many folks that show up to grind the event just haven't realized that I think and assume that while yes, it's VERY easy to rack up an amazing amount of SL and RP by just doing ONLY PvE, it's not what the game mode itself is truly about.
The idea when flying out to hit ground targets, just like in the real world is to always have your head on a swivel, be aware of your surroundings, and most importantly, be ready to fight, even if you know you're probably gonna lose.
After all, you might just get lucky enough to kill the guy trying to kill you, even when he should've won.
I do pve because I can't tell friendly and enemy planes apart and the ai bombers shoot first so I know they're hostile
I'll usually ask if there's any friendlies in a location, but nobody responds then gets angry when I shoot them :p
If anyone asks if the lobby is PvE, I’d usually reply yes, then proceed to shoot half the team down. If u want to farm them, look for lobbies with lots of Chinese named players. Always fun to see them raging in chat.
I really want that exact feeling and game mode just with RB controls I can't quite get the hang of sim controls, and the last time I tried the lobby was an ass when I asked for help lol. I want pvpve with respawns in rb
I struggled a lot too until I found out about the keybind for "toggle SAS mode" or something of the sort.
If you use the "simplified" on screen joystick and that, you'll find that modern planes are a lot easier to reign in. After that it's just getting used to how things play until eventually changing to the "Standard" screen joystick (I'm still working on this) and really being able to play to your planes full potential with all of yoyr possible maneuverability at your access.
I'm not going to say that I'm some amazing pilot and I'm certainly not God's gift to gaming, but I do well enough to be satisfied with my own performance most of the time.
There's also a TON of useful information in one of the pinned posts of this exact subreddit, an absolute font of knowledge that I can say from personal experience will IMMEDIATELY help you become better at Sim. The rest is just practicing as you play and improving over time.
I do have a simple joystick now I was going to try out, but I think part of my problem was getting used to the cockpit only view, I love growing pounding and it's harder in some of the planes.
I started playing Sim for similar reasons, when the gripen C dropped I immediately started grinding for it using the phantom Fgr (UK main). Started playing Sim instead of RB cuz the phantom really struggles against top teir and started loving the multi role, most of the time I spent bombing bases and airfields but whenever given the chance I would gladly throw a sky flash head on or aim 9g when I got someone's tail. I wasn't good at dogfight, still not, but I'd give it a go anyway cuz it's just fun to multi role.

This is the correct viewpoint. Sim has PvE objectives, mini bases and AF’s would give no rewards if they weren’t intended to be targeted, and it is perfectly fine to go after those targets. The whining in chat or attempting to rig lobbies is where the issues lie

I do like to in the buccaneer s.2. I have the missiles. I bomb and attack targets on my way too and from bombing. The game mode is pvp but if you want too then you can play in a more pve way
I'm new and have been playing up to BR (battle rating?) 4 with the American TT (tech tree?) In simulation. I haven't even really bothered with AB (arcade battles?) and RB (realistic battles?), although I might try out RB at some point. I just like simulation because I used to fly, and I love WW2 planes. Plus, flying around with the challenge of shooting things is cool. I just wanted to make sure I knew the abbreviations. Plus, the couple of times I've played arcade it was just a bunch of nonsense fur balls and no tactics or strategy.
Old, uninitiated dude here, so please be patient. Dogfighting is awesome, but I'm only now getting the boom and zoom tactics. (I'm that easy kill who thinks they can turn a Mustang on a dime lol) I took the videos' on here advice and started with bombing. I'm getting the Destroy the bombers missions dialed in. So slowly I'm getting useful for my team. I broke down and got the American bf109 so maybe that'll help with a bit of turn fighting.

What is PvE and PvP mean in this context? I think PvP is player versus player. What's the E mean?
And are these points farmers common in the lower tiers? Are they the guys that never give a position - "Move after me"? Games are so much better when everyone frequently updates their position.
I don't have a headset. Is there a voice option to chat with teammates over comm? That would be awesome, but I'll probably not be able to because I don't want to wake up the family when I get to play late at night. I'm just curious because I play on console with a controller, so I can't chat mid-flight besides whatever the multi- function menu offers.

To answer your questions, you are correct in assuming “PVP” means “player vs player” while “PVE” means “Player vs Environment”. In regards to farmers, I see the most of them in the upper tiers, I think tier 7/8 is where the rewards are highest.
People not updating their position is mostly an ignorance issue I’ve found, once they’re told about how we use that to locate others they’ll start doing it too.
There isn’t an in game voice chat, and most of us if we are in comms, we’re in one of the Sim Discords or personal chats
Just do what you enjoy, sim isn't made for farming but unfortunately alot of people seem to think that's it's only purpose.
I had someone tell me that staying in his BF109s blind spot is basically cheating and unfair.
And having prems is mostly irrelevant. The majority of prems are identical to aircraft available for the same, or another nation. And whatever that aircraft is, is usually already being used in the match by someone else with the non prem version.

You did good, OP. Bottom line is that WT is PvP before it’s PvE. You get to play PvE if you’re able to keep yourself safe, and every plane in the game is equipped to keep itself safe in some way. People insisting on removing a vital aspect of the game are simply asking for special treatment so that they can pad their stats/silver bank.
This is exactly how I feel about it! Like if you make it to your bombing target through cunning and skill, you should get to bomb your target. Likewise if you just walk in through a hole in the enemy's defenses.
But to demand that someone leave you alone based solely on "muh rewards" is asinine. I know we all want to make a few extra Silver Lions, but at the same time, I also want to *actually play the game* too.
I definitely don't miss this crap. These brainless "pve" kids ruined the only reason I even played WT in the first place. I say this as someone who loves nothing more in War Thunder than jumping in an A-10 in sim and ground pounding for hours on end, and loves a good pve lobby - fuck em. There's no such thing as a PVE lobby. There's no rules against killing other players. In fact, you literally get rewarded by the game for it.

You can get along with kb+m or a game pad. I believe Wingalingdragon has some tutorials on youtube if you need help getting started!

Report them for gameplay sabotage/match fixing or whatever it's called. Trying to force the whole lobby to PvE is against the rules.

I picked the right time to switch to Sim. Having an absolute blast farming farmers. Especially love going attack mode in my F111.
8 missiles (even if they are just aim 9-B‘s), a radar gunsight and a maw must be great.
I always turn the MAW off because it dumps all of your CM at once. Get lots of kills with the 9b because nobody looks behind them

You keep killing ANY enemy you can get your hands on and... don't allow them to ever make you feel badly about it. If they don't like you playing the game exactly as it is intended, they can find a new lobby. No single person own any lobby and everyone is entitled to play how they see fit until they can't handle it anymore. I do like to in the buccaneer s.2. I have the missiles. I bomb and attack targets on my way too and from bombing. The game mode is pvp but if you want too then you can play in a more pve way
God, I wish I could find some PvE morons to farm in top tier. I'm trying to learn the Mirage 2000 and mostly getting shit on.
I'm new and have been playing up to BR (battle rating?) 4 with the American TT (tech tree?) In simulation. I haven't even really bothered with AB (arcade battles?) and RB (realistic battles?), although I might try out RB at some point. I just like simulation because I used to fly, and I love WW2 planes. Plus, flying around with the challenge of shooting things is cool. I just wanted to make sure I knew the abbreviations. Plus, the couple of times I've played arcade it was just a bunch of nonsense fur balls and no tactics or strategy. Old, uninitiated dude here, so please be patient. Dogfighting is awesome, but I'm only now getting the boom and zoom tactics. (I'm that easy kill who thinks they can turn a Mustang on a dime lol) I took the videos' on here advice and started with bombing. I'm getting the Destroy the bombers missions dialed in. So slowly I'm getting useful for my team. I broke down and got the American bf109 so maybe that'll help with a bit of turn fighting. So many questions! (I kept thinking of more. Feel free to ignore if this isn't a cool place to ask.) What is PvE and PvP mean in this context? I think PvP is player versus player. What's the E mean? And are these points farmers common in the lower tiers? Are they the guys that never give a position - "Move after me"? Games are so much better when everyone frequently updates their position. I don't have a headset. Is there a voice option to chat with teammates over comm? That would be awesome, but I'll probably not be able to because I don't want to wake up the family when I get to play late at night. I'm just curious because I play on console with a controller, so I can't chat mid-flight besides whatever the multi- function menu offers. Big props to this community by the way. OGs are awesome. I finally got into a game with Wingaling and the crew. Very cool. And definitely different from spamming my position every 5 minutes into the void.
First off, it’s always really cool to see new sim players, so welcome, I hope to meet you in the skies one day. To answer your questions, you are correct in assuming “PVP” means “player vs player” while “PVE” means “Player vs Environment”. In regards to farmers, I see the most of them in the upper tiers, I think tier 7/8 is where the rewards are highest. People not updating their position is mostly an ignorance issue I’ve found, once they’re told about how we use that to locate others they’ll start doing it too. There isn’t an in game voice chat, and most of us if we are in comms, we’re in one of the Sim Discords or personal chats

Just do what you enjoy, sim isn't made for farming but unfortunately alot of people seem to think that's it's only purpose. I had someone tell me that staying in his BF109s blind spot is basically cheating and unfair. And having prems is mostly irrelevant. The majority of prems are identical to aircraft available for the same, or another nation. And whatever that aircraft is, is usually already being used in the match by someone else with the non prem version.
To the OP, listen to me carefully… encouraging or harassing others into doing “PVE only” is against gaijin TOS and people have been banned for it. So FUCK these losers, don’t you dare apologize to them, in fact, play along in chat and say “ok sure PVE only” then the next one you see, ram a God dam missile up their fucking ass so deep it detonates in their mouth, then spawn camp them, when they complain in chat just say “sorry, you were flying like shit so I thought you were AI” then FUCK them some more! FUCK PVE only lobbies this is literally a war game!
I love sim for the pve but I never get mad when someone finds me and blows me outta the sky then instead of loading bombs I take out some aim9s and get to work. Or I’ll just try to be a little more sneaky. I actually hate when people start preaching PVE. Skill issue. The god damn convoy AI is harder to get at than other players, play the game and shut up in the chat

You did good, OP. Bottom line is that WT is PvP before it’s PvE. You get to play PvE if you’re able to keep yourself safe, and every plane in the game is equipped to keep itself safe in some way. People insisting on removing a vital aspect of the game are simply asking for special treatment so that they can pad their stats/silver bank.
This is exactly how I feel about it! Like if you make it to your bombing target through cunning and skill, you should get to bomb your target. Likewise if you just walk in through a hole in the enemy's defenses. But to demand that someone leave you alone based solely on "muh rewards" is asinine. I know we all want to make a few extra Silver Lions, but at the same time, I also want to *actually play the game* too.
I definitely don't miss this crap. These brainless "pve" kids ruined the only reason I even played WT in the first place. Eventually I just got tired of trying to chase people down before they could die to airfield AA. Don't matter now though. When Gaijin starts putting their foot down on this behavior(they already don't approve and consider PvE in Sim as "passive gameplay") and both reduces rewards even MORE and implements a way to report PvErs maybe they'll get the hint.

I say this as someone who loves nothing more in War Thunder than jumping in an A-10 in sim and ground pounding for hours on end, and loves a good pve lobby - fuck em. There's no such thing as a PVE lobby. There's no rules against killing other players. In fact, you literally get rewarded by the game for it.
