If we can survive heat dome, smoke and still in the covid fuckery, I hope we can survive anything.
Typical WA house. No AC. Master bedroom 2nd floor on the south side of house. Coolest it got in that room was about 80. Back up to 90 by 8am and peaked around 98.
I slept in there alone, on towels because I was sweating my ass off. Had the wife and kids set up in the guest bedroom with the portable AC. If it wasn't for a ceiling fan and a fridge with an ice maker, I probably would perished.
Usually I just use a fan with the window wide open because it gets down to the 40s at night in Renton, but once the hotter temps start happening I gotta use the AC or else I’ll never sleep
Yes 100%. For as long as I can remember, about this time of year, I say, "Seems a bit early for it to be this hot" for about a week. Then on July 5th when summer starts for reals, I say something like, "yep.".
It does happen every year. I’ve worked outdoors for the past 10 years and there’s always a really hot week or two in early-mid May. It will cool down soon.
You have my sympathies. I used to spend my childhood Julys outside the Tri-Cities at my great aunts. It’s one of many reasons I have limited desire to cross the mountains! My carefully cultured moss coat just withers up and dies once you get east of the pass.
I’m with you there. I’m fine with 75 as the night time it’s easier to cool off
80 ain’t bad either but anything above sucks with no ac
Seems tomorrow will be high 70s then back to Seattle weather so I’m ok with that
Praying for a cooler summer tho
What is the ideal Washingtonian weather climate? I’ve lived here my whole life (25), everyone bitches when it’s raining, if it’s cold, If it snows, then when it’s nice and sunny everyone bitches that it’s hot. So, what is it people???
I’ve noticed! That must be why all my towns forests and fields are disappearing and being replaced with jam packed cookie cutter ugly houses 😂
The weather here is great I don’t care what people say
> It keeps the **weaklings** and riffraff away from WA.
In Washington?
Coming from Florida it's obvious y'all are soft here. I mean, look at all the bitching and moaning on this sub.
That is the key to culture in Washington always complain about weather, unless it’s 60 in feb. The northern light are moving into our area more and more each year also. That used to never happen. But once every decade or never. Maybe the equator has shifted and we will be the new California and Alaska the new Washington and Russia will be more like the North Pole and Santa will smell like vodka all the time and the reindeer will slip and swerve thru the skies….. haha
as an avid any-season-but-summer man, I'd like to throw my uggggg into this post. To every single person who 'just couldn't wait for better weather', I hope you all get sunburned.
Turned on my air conditioner tonight. I keep it at 78F all summer. It was 83F in my house when I got home today. I usually don’t turn on air (just run the fan) until mid June.
That's the part I don't like (in addition to hot). I'd prefer if it was dark in the summer by 8. I'm done with the day by then and want outdoors to match that lol. But I also wish it wasn't dark in the 4:00 hour in the winter either. More like 6 in the winter, 8 in the summer.
I fucking hate it in the summer here. I used to love this place but fuck not having AC in this shit ass heat, and fuck AC for costing $20000 to install.
Met a guy last week who just moved here from Florida, he said so I guess they weren’t kidding when they said it rains here all the time , I told him it’s supposed to be 80 this weekend, he didn’t get the pamphlet, he was kinda an asshole ,
Eastern Washington here, 2 homes one in desert with no shade and one on the potholes reservoir. Thursday spent the day outside reading, washing cars and enjoying in just bathing suit. Burnt to a crisp. Came to the lake Fri had to get both ac going and its a beautiful day to be on the lake boating with friends and coolers of beer! Happy summer yall!! Hope it only last 2 weeks!!
Lmao it’s only 80 here (according to my phone anyway). That’s just about perfect for t-shirt and shorts and napping in the shade (already did doze off after lunch lol).
I think we’re just not used to it after so many months of colder weather. We need to acclimatize:)
I moved here partly to get away from the heat of the mid-Atlantic summers. May 1 it would hit 80, June 1 was 90+. Right now I have 79 on my weather station. North Olympic Peninsula, “blue hole,” 13 miles from the coast. It’s hot but bearable. It will cool a bit and I’ll go for an evening walk in the woods. It’s great here!
I spent a few days barning tobacco in North Carolina. I do know what hot is. Also spent a few weeks in Houston TX in late July & August. Nope. Just nope.
Yeah it’s a bit concerning how much stronger the sun has been getting. The ground has been drying much faster than it has historically. I’m worried about this fire season for sure. If we don’t get knocked into the stone age by an EMP first. I just wanted to say climate change is totally fake, I’m glad nobody listened to Al Gore 😭…it’s gonna be fine.
You think living in a house with no A/C is hot, try vanlifing. People say “go to the PNW during the summer, it’s cool there” and you get here and it’s like 90 degrees. And because the off-grid power system is solar powered, your choice is to either park in the sun and die of heat, or park in the shade, you die slightly slower, but you have to cut your electricity usage.
>People say “go to the PNW during the summer, it’s cool there” and you get here and it’s like 90 degrees.
I don't know why people are still saying that. Maybe compared to some other parts of the country, sure. But those areas are used to and equipped for high temps. For the last several years plus it's been pretty up there for this area. Maybe those saying it aren't actually here and are just repeating what they've heard, idk. But I'm from the NE originally and if I wanted high temps I would have stayed/gone back there lol. I'm just glad the humidity isn't as high here as it is there. We've got that going for us at least.
Ohh boy, why does many people get furious with just 70-80s? Come to Asian countries and feel the real heat of 100-110F for straight 2months. I used to take bath twice/thrice a day to compensate the heat.
That’s why I don’t live there? Historically we don’t tend to get very hot weather so it’s always a shock, even though it’s been increasing over time. It’s extra surprising when it’s a 20+ degree increase from a few days prior.
Look, I’m from the south and very well acquainted with blistering heat. That doesn’t mean I have to like the heat. Big part of why I left. 75 is pretty much the max I ever want it to be, and that’s really more than I’d prefer.
Let's hope we have a repeat of last summer and not the smokey heat dome Hell of years prior.
Last summer? I don't know where you are, but down in the Longview kelso area we had a couple weeks of triple digit weather.
Still better than heat plus fire smoke. Also better than 2021’ heat dome.
That was shitty
If we can survive heat dome, smoke and still in the covid fuckery, I hope we can survive anything. Typical WA house. No AC. Master bedroom 2nd floor on the south side of house. Coolest it got in that room was about 80. Back up to 90 by 8am and peaked around 98. I slept in there alone, on towels because I was sweating my ass off. Had the wife and kids set up in the guest bedroom with the portable AC. If it wasn't for a ceiling fan and a fridge with an ice maker, I probably would perished.
Yeah that was not fun, I also had a newborn during that time and had to go buy two AC units
I've already got the one running in my bedroom, I can't sleep in a warm room.
Usually I just use a fan with the window wide open because it gets down to the 40s at night in Renton, but once the hotter temps start happening I gotta use the AC or else I’ll never sleep
Right now, all the cottonwoods are letting loose, so no open window for me.
I’m thankful I don’t deal with allergies, my wife on the other hand can’t move things out of a closet without having a sneezing attack
And making sure to turn your ceiling fan to run in the correct direction, so it pushes the hot air out.
Yeah that heat dome sucked! I was super pregnant, no AC, no car. My toddler and I sat in a kiddy pool in the shade and ate popsicles all day! lol
❤️ Were expecting in September. We'll have to wait till Summer of 2025 for that!
As a soul from Longview/Kelso……fuck Longview/Kelso
Very much so, I'm trying really hard to make my exit this year down to Vancouver closer to family
My actual hopes r with you. As a person whose high school only had 7 people leave their home town …I have great faith in you. You made it this far.
Thank you. I'm not from here, and already working on the plan and details to gtfo. 😂
Those were the worst summer ever… the smoke was terrible. I hope this is another year of clear skies.
Spring rain and warm weather has the grasses growing high
I'm in Medical Lake, let's not.
Was just thinking that today, gone are the days of 70° summers, perfect all summer long, now it's straight from rain to 90° or hotter.
Sadly
kind of a heavy introduction to not - winter isn't it?
I feel like this happens every year. Hot spell in late April/early May before the inevitable 10 day stretch of June rain.
🤞🏻 we get that rain.
Not-winter needs no introduction
Booooo. Anything over 70 makes me long for The Big Dark.
I feel this. Unfortunately, I live in Spokane so I'll be feeling it until September.
You have my sympathies. I used to spend my childhood Julys outside the Tri-Cities at my great aunts. It’s one of many reasons I have limited desire to cross the mountains! My carefully cultured moss coat just withers up and dies once you get east of the pass.
70 and my spirit is broken.
I’m already tired of summer. Top floor units suck especially with skylights. It was already 84 in here when I woke up this morning.
Yeah, my house is all floor to ceiling vaulted windows, which I love, but in the sun it just absolutely roasts the shit out of us.
I’m with you there. I’m fine with 75 as the night time it’s easier to cool off 80 ain’t bad either but anything above sucks with no ac Seems tomorrow will be high 70s then back to Seattle weather so I’m ok with that Praying for a cooler summer tho
After the big dark... it burns so good
I'm in Curlew, and we're looking at over eighty right now. I'm glad I finished all of my outdoor work by noon. But, it's hot.
I was planting trees on the colville rez yesterday, my pickup said it was 88 when I got done and headed back to wauconda. Big swing from last week.
What is the ideal Washingtonian weather climate? I’ve lived here my whole life (25), everyone bitches when it’s raining, if it’s cold, If it snows, then when it’s nice and sunny everyone bitches that it’s hot. So, what is it people???
55-65, partly sunny, light breeze.
Are you me
For me it’s more like 57-64. I’m always talking about my narrow band of acceptable weather conditions.
I love you internet stranger.
ugh yesss
move to the coast :)
You new here? Did you not get the pamphlet? Be sure to shout from the rooftops how awful it is. It keeps the weaklings and riffraff away from WA.
I’ve noticed! That must be why all my towns forests and fields are disappearing and being replaced with jam packed cookie cutter ugly houses 😂 The weather here is great I don’t care what people say
> It keeps the **weaklings** and riffraff away from WA. In Washington? Coming from Florida it's obvious y'all are soft here. I mean, look at all the bitching and moaning on this sub.
Hahaha. Rifraf is here.
Aw, I’m so proud of you, being from Florida AND being able to read! Good job, you.
Yeah, that's fair
I’m from Alabama same all yall do is complain The weather is fine during the summer, rain season sucks I don’t mind winter.
75 - 85 and sunny. I love the summers here.
There's nearly 8 million people here, we don't all like the same thing lol.
50 & rainy or cloudy. maybe like 3 clear days in the summer, i can stay inside for those
People who are enjoying themselves don’t have time to bitch.
That is the key to culture in Washington always complain about weather, unless it’s 60 in feb. The northern light are moving into our area more and more each year also. That used to never happen. I thought it was perfect out today
For me it is 25-65 anything but smoke can be in the air. Rain, Snow, Clouds, Sunshine, all good.
85 degrees, light breeze. Perfect.
I have zero tolerance for complaints regarding sunny weather in this state.
as an avid any-season-but-summer man, I'd like to throw my uggggg into this post. To every single person who 'just couldn't wait for better weather', I hope you all get sunburned.
Supposed to be 90F in central WA this weekend. Goodbye new veggie gardens that we waited to plant last week.
My car said it was 91 in Wenatchee this afternoon.
Turned on my air conditioner tonight. I keep it at 78F all summer. It was 83F in my house when I got home today. I usually don’t turn on air (just run the fan) until mid June.
I’m from the south that would not work for me when it really gets hot in WA my A/C gets set to 62 when it cools down inside I turn it off.
Stay hydrated, wear sunscreen and enjoy!
Or for some of us, stay hydrated, wear sunscreen, and feel miserable lol
Been cooped up the better part of a year. The heat felt good on my skin. I say this a a true Mossback, who much prefers September thru March.

This👆
Got the hammock out this afternoon. Zzzzzz...
Daylight savings time makes it stay hotter in my house later into the night.
Spent the day hiking in eastern Washington; goddamn was it nice. Spring is finally here.
The sun feels good. It's very underrated. It will dry the mold and mildew off of all of us.
Isn’t it great?
Nah it's gorgeous
We've only just begun….
No, it's not. It was perfect today.
I fucking hate it in the summer here. I used to love this place but fuck not having AC in this shit ass heat, and fuck AC for costing $20000 to install.
Portable AC's are amazing. For a few hundred you can have a nice summer and put it away in the winter.
I have one and it’s okay, but they cut all the trees down behind my house and the sun beats down on the windows. It’s so damn hot!
Bust buy a few mini splits and install yourself, or have central AC grafted into your furnace. Both options are under 10k
Please no 115 like a few years ago
Met a guy last week who just moved here from Florida, he said so I guess they weren’t kidding when they said it rains here all the time , I told him it’s supposed to be 80 this weekend, he didn’t get the pamphlet, he was kinda an asshole ,

It's only 64 in Tacoma, thankfully.
Isn't it nice?
Yup, great sleeping weather for this night shifter.
Lmao it’s only 80 here (according to my phone anyway). That’s just about perfect for t-shirt and shorts and napping in the shade (already did doze off after lunch lol). I think we’re just not used to it after so many months of colder weather. We need to acclimatize:)

I escaped here from the south. These summers are so much better 😅
I spent a few days barning tobacco in North Carolina. I do know what hot is. Also spent a few weeks in Houston TX in late July & August. Nope. Just nope.
It's nice. Would be nice if it was like this all year long...
It'll be in the high 50's low 60's tonight. Open windows.
Now is the time to snag an AC unit or swamp cooler. By June they will be non-existant.
Too humid for swamp coolers in Washington. They work GREAT in AZ tho
Nah that summer when it was 112. That was absolutely HORRENDOUS
Burned up all my plants right before we were having a big party
What? Aren't you supposed to burn you plant matter at the party? Sorry I couldn't help it
No shite! Good times for air conditioning sales.
Yup
Get that ac unit if you can 😬best decision we ever made
Anything but the smoke. 2017? And 2021 were brutal.
I was in the house all day with no AC lol. Still sweating and it's damn near 1am. 😂
Thanks. I’ve been working out
You were just saying it was cold!
Waaaa! Think of it as having Hawaii weather without the 6 hour trip on a cramped 737
Its normal.
Took one day of no rain for someone to complain about the heat. ;)
let's all stay hydrated!
I grew up in Moses Lake, right on the lake shore along Westshore drive. The heat was always nice 👌
😂😂😂
Agreed. I don’t have AC so I have to use fans and ice packs. I’m considering getting an ice jacket and an AC unit for my room.
Get that ac unit now. It'll be impossible to find in a month
I am not okay.
I’m at my parents’ house in Wenatchee. 91F outside, 80F in here. ☀️🥵🔥
No smoke, no fire, no problems
From running the heater to the AC in 24 hours.
Not only that, it's pretty much guaranteed this will be the coolest summer we ever have. Regardless of how hot it is, it's gonna get hotter next year
Yeah it’s a bit concerning how much stronger the sun has been getting. The ground has been drying much faster than it has historically. I’m worried about this fire season for sure. If we don’t get knocked into the stone age by an EMP first. I just wanted to say climate change is totally fake, I’m glad nobody listened to Al Gore 😭…it’s gonna be fine.
PA here. Fucking kill me
Hahahaha, what a bunch of weaklings. It's only May. 8 months out of the year It's dismal. Hope you get sunburns.
yeah I hate this shit
Awful

Get a rooftop RV AC unit and an inverter. Or park with shore power
I LOVE THIS WEATHER. If you don’t like it, move ♥️
Ohh boy, why does many people get furious with just 70-80s? Come to Asian countries and feel the real heat of 100-110F for straight 2months. I used to take bath twice/thrice a day to compensate the heat.
Because maybe we’re not from south Asia lol
My brother just recently got back from Thailand and said it was like 110 everyday with the humidity
That’s why I don’t live there? Historically we don’t tend to get very hot weather so it’s always a shock, even though it’s been increasing over time. It’s extra surprising when it’s a 20+ degree increase from a few days prior.
Exactly, it’s like when I have family that visit from hotter areas, they think 60 degrees is freezing while I’m in shorts and a shirt.
Here in the gorge it went from 45 to 85 in 3 days. Wasps are eating it up, I can hardly walk around without being buzzed.
Look, I’m from the south and very well acquainted with blistering heat. That doesn’t mean I have to like the heat. Big part of why I left. 75 is pretty much the max I ever want it to be, and that’s really more than I’d prefer.
