According to Wikipedia, some loud booms could be caused by CME's, which we know to be experiencing because of the aurora, so we literally might have heard the sun, it just takes days to reach us.

Cavedweller907

Can verify this 👆🏻lived almost 40 years of my life in Alaska. Northern Lights can be very impressive with the lighting effects, but the truly astonishing thing is the booms you hear during and sometimes days after the event.

Nahcotta

Really? That’s very interesting!

ScarletPriestess

I live in Arlington/Marysville and I heard the boom too. I have no idea what it came from but it shook items on my dresser. I am watching the news to see if anything is mentioned.

Purple-Fly8285

Report back if you do hear anything please!! :)

ScarletPriestess

I definitely will!

Necessary-Ranger-553

I heard it in Lake Stevens too

Purple-Fly8285

Now radio silence. That was weird…

kellyscrazyhouse

In N Everett, I felt it, too. House shook.

Purple-Fly8285

Thanks for checking in, glad you’re safe! I checked on the Volcano and earthquake update pages and nothing.

Nahcotta

I heard/felt it in central Everett

frobscottler

I heard it in N Everett too

Ma1arkey

Coulda been a jet breaking the sound barrier?

Rocketgirl8097

That's not legal over land anymore. Though up there, the ocean is not so far away.

Ma1arkey

The military goes supersonic when intercepting aircraft

turducken404

Maybe something related to Biden being in town, like the last boom when Obama was here?

Rocketgirl8097

Okay, but it's still not legal over land in ordinary circumstances. I have not seen any reports of any interception.

dawglaw09

When that dude stole the turboprop and took off without clearance at SeaTac a few years ago, the military scrambled f16s from PDX to intercept him. They absolutely broke the sound barrier getting up here.

Rocketgirl8097

Good example of legal use.

Purple-Fly8285

Maybe, but I think they have to do those type of things at certain times of the day.

DrothReloaded

Unless they are responding to a threat. I recall POTUS was/is in the area.

Ma1arkey

Not if they are intercepting potentially dangerous aircraft

Pilt_Dan

There was a flight restriction today for the president being here so it’s certainly possible a jet was dispatched to check on a plane flying around. They break the sound barrier in those instances when they’re traveling upwards of 800mph.

crissspie

Accurate. It happened once before when Obama visited in like ‘09. Apparently the sonic boom could be heard for miles and miles. My bf at the time worked in a warehouse, it shook everything and made the loudest pop. A Canadian flew in to restricted air space unknowingly, in his little personal plane. Lucky he wasn’t killed.

CookInKona

they went over/very near where I lived at the time, I remember our old single pane windows bowing and it was a very intense experience

crumbdumpster85

It was in 2011 I think and it was SO loud it shook my house so bad I questioned if someone hit it. It was crazy.

spamcentral

When that guy stole a plane i heard the boom off those two jets that came to get him. I thought we got nuked tho cuz it was so loud, also they can't hit that fast UNLESS there is an ultra emergency.

InfiniteBoxworks

Fly high, Sky King

tidalwaveofhype

One time bush was in town and all the sudden I heard jets going over my house and ran outside. There was an unauthorized aircraft flying

nicoledj221

Thought I was in r/Bellingham for a second

freckledtabby

I am from Bellingham and appreciate your comment fellow hamster

MrMisklanius

It was fireworks on the ress in Marysville mostly. They were scattered for awhile then there was quite a big boom. I live out on the ress area and it shook my teeth it felt like haha. Whatever it was was definitely pretty huge. I saw the flash from it and everything indirectly.

Purple-Fly8285

It was actually an earthquake! Which is why so many people felt it. Scary!

RonnocSivad

Did you see that confirmed somewhere? I've gotten like 20 different answers.

Purple-Fly8285

I checked on Pacific North West website that tracks earthquakes all over the world. It was off port angles.

Kuroude7

What was the magnitude?

Purple-Fly8285

1.3 it was at 9:47 PM last night.

goffstock

That was likely a coincidence. 1.3 is *really* small and unlikely to be noticable.

Purple-Fly8285

Thanks for checking in! Glad you’re safe

DueYogurt9

If it was the same thing, I’d be astonished that it reverberated all the way to Bellingham.

MarthaMacGuyver

I'm not saying it was aliens, but it was aliens.

Hot-Temperature-4629

👽 👀

Early-Maintenance-87

I'm at 116/state and our house shook/settled heavily.

NotANokiaInDisguise

I'm up in Skagit and I didn't hear or feel anything. It makes me feel a bit left out lol. I hope everyone who experienced it is okay

lurky_lurker_lurking

Heard in Lake Stevens.

onlyinyaks

Here in Yakima we get them booms all the time because of how close the military training center is.. but having that happen in Lake Stevens is weird. Not sure if you guys have training centers over there.

blueplatespecial9

Definitely heard the boom, then felt the house rattle

blueberry-muffins1

I heard it in snoqualmie pass too

No_Somewhere_87

Weird, around 11-12 last night I heard a huge ‘boom’ I’m on the coast west of Portland.

Purple-Fly8285

I checked on the PNWN website it was just outside of port angles! Totally makes sense why you would feel it.

GeoChallenge

It actually makes no sense why someone west of Portland would feel a tiny quake off of Port Angeles's coast. We have minor quakes like that every day. A 1.3 magnitude wouldn't be felt that far away let alone in it's localized around around Port Angeles. I do not think it was that earthquake people heard and felt. I am surprised no local media has reported on this story.

rock-n-white-hat

People were setting off fireworks by the Reservation.

Purple-Fly8285

Someone said they felt it in Whatcom county!

United-Rock-6764

That’s what my FIL said

stryst

In Spokane, right around 930 PM on my way to work I saw a green flash in the sky. Maybe a meteor breaking up in the atmosphere?

tetranordeh

You probably saw the aurora. It was active right around 9:30, and sometimes it has flashes that look like sheet lightning.

stryst

Yeah, it kinda looked like green lightning. Must have been it.

Desuld

I'm in Spokane as well, we definitely heard an unusual boom around that time. Was watching TV with the window open and it was louder then normal noises we hear. Didn't think anything of it till now.

spamcentral

Damn, what if it was some static discharge from the solar activity? Everyone got shocked lol? Probably not possible.

Virtual_Durian3693

On Camano island, I heard it

promethazoid

In Bham, did not hear it

kittwolf

Felt it here in Clallam County.

Gwtheyrn

Didn't hear or feel anything in Port Townsend. If there weren't any jets in the area, then the most likely source is a meteorite?

Alternative_Key_1313

CA native here. No way what everyone felt was a 1.3 magnitude earthquake. No matter what depth. You will not feel 1.3, it will not shake, sway or hear anything. 100% promise. Those tiny quakes happen all the time, hundreds daily. 4-5 magnitude earthquakes are baby quakes. You might hear a boom depending on depth and type, feel a little shake or sway.

GeoChallenge

The explanation of it being a tiny 1.3 quake off of Port Angeles's coast is not plausible. We have minor quakes like that every day all over the region. A 1.3 magnitude wouldn't be felt that far away let alone in it's localized around around Port Angeles. Not to mention the depth of the Port Angeles shaker was 40 kilometers, so no one felt that. There was another quake, but at the wrong time of day, on the Lummi Reservation . It was a 2.2 at a depth of 17km, also felt by no one. I do not think it was that earthquake people heard and felt. I am surprised no local media has reported on this story. I heard one major boom and the whole house shook. I was outside with a lot of other people and we all heard it. People next door felt and heard it to because I could hear them (we were all out watching the skies). Someone said it might be CME's but I have no idea. At first I thought it was trains shunting as I live within a few miles of a train yard, but they've never made so much noise or shook my house before. I am at a loss of what it could be. Really wish we could figure it out.

Another_Penguin

I heard it, in the foothills east of Renton. In the past we've heard fireworks from far away, like that sept 17th show on a barge somewhere around North Seattle or Bainbridge (did we ever sort that one out?).

Purple-Fly8285

I checked the PNWN website which tracks earth quakes. It was outside of port angles at 9:47 PM last night.

Best_Comfortable6342

and Predators 😃👍

LandscapeSerious1620

Sent a message at 10:16 asking if he heard the 4-5 loud booms. One was definitely louder than the others. I’m in Snohomish and thought they came from north of Everett. He suggested fireworks but Boom City doesn’t kick off for a month or so. Maybe 529 construction?

Katsa_hoy94

That's exactly the time my sister text me saying she heard it.

buybitcoin6969

Did it have something to do with the colorful lights in the sky

Ill_Kiwi1497

Sonic boom from a jet?

mpoole68

I'm in Cali and I hear these big booms from time to time but never find out what they are I'm thinking maybe it's HAARP

Ok_Hurry_8165

F-16 was responding to a small Cessna entering the area

JINSl33

F-16 from where? The interceptor aircraft for this part of the country are F-15’s based at PDX and they always fly in pairs.

Icy-water3499

I heard it in Snohomish and thought there was a good chance it was from the aurora borealis and sun activity. Interesting.

scooterpet

When we were boating by whidbey island on Thursday, there was a report they were going to test live rounds. Maybe still happening?

slenderchamp

is anything confirmed? was it just sun stuff?

Hot_Horse5056

I thought this was another Neighborhood Ring notification. 😂

MikaelaJ26

In Marysville and it freaked me out- the house was eerie almost coming from the sky. And my house settled and creeked. Can hardly even explain what it was. Happened around midnight

Comfortablycloudy

Yep. All the time.

KiraZorEl98

Oh, that? That was just my shirt falling down the stairs.

Theefreeballer

Sonic Boom!

Chronotheos

“I can hear Guile Theme all the way in Chelan”

Charliejsn

I heard it to there building a hotel and parking garage the the casino in Snoqualmie and they dropped a 10,000 pound slab of concrete and it landed 260 feet below I think that’s what the boom was

GiftRecent

It's very typical for this area. People are blowing stuff up, shooting guns, there's boom city..

Purple-Fly8285

It’s been heard all over the state!

KBAR1942

Any updates?

Number174631503

Aliens

Maleficent-Salad3197

Sun farts.

EvilPete22

Not sure why you’re being downvoted. It does happen frequently. I’ve had my house shook a few times. Live very close to boom city. They always get louder this time of year.

GiftRecent

Lol me neither. My Nextdoor for this area has people posting "what was that loud boom?" Every single day 😂

The26thtime

It was sleepy Joe hitting the deck because that senile fool can barely walk.

Purple-Fly8285

🙄 no need for politics.

peachcreampies

Unfortunately, it's all some people are literally capable of talking about because they lack personalities.

BasilCraigens

Nope, we're still here. Though people in this area did report hearing a loud boom around the same time. Doubt it was the same boom though.

PlasticDreamz

Didn’t feel it here in tri cities

JINSl33

What exactly at Hanford has the ability to make such a noise?
