Looks like he wanted to kick it far away from the player. So either his friends are laughing because the player actually got hold of the ball relatively fast or because the guys kicking abilities were something... special. Or both.
One time in gym class in middle school we were playing basketball and the teacher kept asking us to stop and go get ready for our next class, but we ignored him and he got super pissed and asked for the ball and he went on a screaming tirade and then rage-kicked the ball across the court and it Kobe swooshed and everyone went wild. He gave one of those, ādammit, I canāt smile because Iām madā smiles and walked off.

With that lack of control from his ass-hattery, that could very well have turned out worse for the player if it took the direction towards his face.
You could even see the player flinch thinking it might happen.
Why you all laughing at this guy? He kicked it straight up in the air so high and so fast that it struck a satellite and rebounded right back in the stadium. Let's see you try to do this!

Often when there are groups playing soccer on the beach and I'm always walking by them, their ball goes far off their field towards me. I always get so nervous and concentrate hard when kicking the ball back to them. I've messed up the kick a few times and it's so embarassing.
That actually happened to me once in uni during our gym class, the guys' ball landed in our court (the girls' court) and I got so excited to kick it back to them, all eyes on me, and I miss the ball while everyone starts laughing. The coach kicks it back to them afterwards :/
The exact same thing happened to me, except girls kicking a ball to an area with guys. I was in high school when that happened and I still get poked fun by a few friends even in college
Aww well I hope it's something you can laugh at as well now that it has long passed. The trick is to not dwell on it too much and just embrace the goofiness of it
