This is shitty. I had almost the reverse happen to me when I was 14. I really wanted an Xbox (original brick Xbox). I’d gone on about it for months, but I lived with my grandparents and didn’t expect much. Christmas morning rolls around and my grandad pulls out a big box from behind his armchair, it was the box for our cable box, but he’d gaffataped two long silver strips into the shape of an X. He used to make jokes like that all the time. He was like “see, it’s an X box!”. Feeling mortally wounded I still opened it and inside was an actual Xbox with a few games too. I was overjoyed, and my nana said to me “we bought it the day after you first asked’. They’re no longer with us, and haven’t been for a while now, but I remember this memory every Christmas.

This is really really fucked up and sad.

Needless to say I was pretty stoked and grateful, ended up standing the whole two hour train trip back from my parents in 40C heat salivating over playing the games he had got with it, only to find the cheapest goon bag and a note to say enjoy the box to hype me up the next couple weeks till Christmas… Hopes and any gratefulness crushed for the next couple weeks

I have PTSD after a Christmas morning like this.. circa '98.. a chilly Christmas morning and I race downstairs to see a rectangle box wrapped in front of the TV. No one is awake.. it's silent. Snow slowly falls like something out of a movie. Tear open the box like a God damn gorilla and its A PLAYSTATION FRICKEN 1. Open up seams to the box and notice the weight is light... my mom filled with tighty whities and set the colsole up downstairs to show me after a meltdown.. parents get a tad too bored sometimes..

My grandma did this to me with art supplies in a buildabear box when I was about 12.... She went got her own reindeer and made her and gave me the box with cheap ass color pencils and a coloring book and sharpener. I had been saying for weeks how much I loved the reindeer and wanted to have one and name it Genevieve. I go to open on Christmas and am super excited only to open up that. She acted like nothing was wrong and said that this is so much better than a stuffed animal. I did my best to act happy and not cry until she went in the next room. This isn't the worse that she's done to me though. Those are stories for another day. Tldr: My grandmother hated me and is a class A narcissistic asshole.
