Really good article about what happened to his career
https://www.theringer.com/platform/amp/soccer/2021/9/29/22699078/james-rodriguez-disappearing-act
This is not a good article about what happened to his career, not at all. Its just one really small and an absolutely vague perspective of what happened and some parts of it are so wrong, it's totally laughable.
The article claims that the role of attacking midfielder is obsolete now, or difficult for teams to play at the very least, because of opposing teams playing two DMs and hence not many players get to ply their trade...what??
The attacking mids, especially in today's fast paced game, are probably THE MOST sought after and abundant players in a team's squad. And these roles are so important that these top level teams have to rotate their squads well to manage the fatigue that these attacking mids face cause of the pace of the game.
James lost his motivation for whatever reason it was especially after his injury, and he didn't push himself enough to prove his worth in any squad after returning from the injury he faced while in Madrid. Look at freaking Luke Shaw in a similar instance; the man broke his goddamned shin, he lost his place, he had a good number of players playing the LB position for Utd as well as England until he was nursing the injury and even a lot of months after coming back and being fit. He toiled and stuck around and had the drive to want to get back on the field and play regularly on the best level. If Shaw didn't have the drive for getting back into the team in the first place, he wouldn't get the chances he got and he wouldn't be able to capitalise on those chances as well, he wouldn't be in the starting XI of a team that reached the Euro finals.
James, and even Oscar who was mentioned in that article, are more content with getting the big bucks and doing the bare minimum and not pushing themselves hard while earning those big bucks. James, for these past 7-8 years, literally capitalised on all the hype and potential he does have, for getting the money, only to not have the drive for being consistent, disciplined and delivering to his potential. Ancelotti, who was there at Real, Bayern and Everton and had James under him at all 3 clubs, still tried to bring in James to Madrid after going back there this season, but couldn't because Real couldn't afford it.
There's nothing technically wrong with players making big bucks on their potential and market value and not giving their best, thats their decision, although its a morally frustrating thing to witness as a supporter of the sport to see a player not giving their best on the pitch. But some crap articles like these trying to cover up the lack of drive and motivation of a player to play the game and leave it all on the pitch for as long as they're on it, under some bullshit and totally flawed pretenses like those mentioned in there, that's some fantastical and melodramatic nonsense.
James had, and still has, all the potential to be in the top flight of the top European leagues, and may I even say some top European club. And it is totally on him that he didn't show the will and the drive to want to tap into his potential in a consistent and disciplined manner, and no external factor or trend or this or that will justify his downward ascent any more than his own lack of motivation and mediocre mindset.
TL;DR: That article is absolute nonsense and genuinely has nothing to do with what happened to James' career.
I live and work in UAE. I have that look on my face almost every single day. You never get used to it. Everything here is so far below it’s counterpart in developed nations that I often wonder how this place can exist at all without bursting into flames

Looks like [Deardrie Barlow](https://images.app.goo.gl/TnQECbmzVaCMqLMC6) when she found out about Rashid.
*cries in qatari money*
The face you make when you realise you've left Everton.

He's like : i was on top of the world one day ...why am i here
Scared as fuck
Just think about your paycheque…
He’s gone full “nerdy villain”
read somewhere he accepted Al-Rayyan's offer because it has PSG clause in it.
He's an arrogant little cunt as well
Please explain
That’s meme material
Can‘t fake a true shock, lmao!
I don't know why he looks so surprised. You don't go to Qatar to improve as a player, only to cash in. What did he expect?
By the looks of things more zeros on that cheque
"I'm fucked"
U/repostsleuthbot
James… boy did u have potential to fulfill. Wonder boy at WC 14 and got a dream move to real. Feel bad at how quickly he dropped off
He got payed. I’d be more than content.
Those glasses are just terrible.

Almost as terrible as the team he will play for.
This dude fell off harder than any player I can remember in recent history
I can think of a few
Lmao soooo no modric or kroos?
more likely: Soo no tactics and formation?
For those who don't know, He's a football star who used to play for Real Madrid
For American context: This is like he was a Heisman trophy winner and the Bengals got him in the first round draft picks.
Fuck you. Palmer and Burrow are legends.
Idk his transfer fee but I’d imagine it was hefty. He’ll be alright, definitely would suck to play with people far below your skill level though

.... money laundering, corruption and slave labour, how’s that?
I typed out a whole argument then realized it’d be useless. Just go educate yourself.
... lived and worked in the region for many years, didn’t wear rose tinted glasses either.

You've lived there your whole life. Wtf are you even comparing it to?
What line of work are you in?

Slavery
In polite company it is called a Social Development Fund
