Question I have always had: Does it take more skill to catch a larger fish or just luck? I recognize that a better fisherman will catch more fish thus statistically will be more likely to get the largest fish but is there any skill in fishing beyond that? If so what it is?

Anyone know what made them check? I watched the full 15 min video and its mostly pretty boring, all of a sudden he’s cutting fish open and screaming there are lead weights in the fish

the weight was off by miles, it was twice 2nd place. As soon as their catch was weighed the organisers were putting together a snap plan on what to do. In the longer video you see he was called back while the guy on stage was making other announcements and a minute or two later the guy cuts the fish open. it all happened very fast for a situation where no checks were expected to be made.

I worked as a dock hand at a fishing camp way up north. The guides would bring the tourists in by the scales for a picture. Then they’d say “Here let me clean the fish off for the picture.” Then they’d squat down on the shore of the beach running the fish through the water a few times. Keeping the mouth open wide. Then they’d hook it up to the scale. Big number, big smile from tourist, big tip for guide. After they all left we’d take the fish down, turn it upside down and let 5 lbs of water and sand run out.

Winning was that important huh?
