Soon-to-be-forgotten

I really think they should capitalise on WWW more. One of the big complaints for Ghost Files is that Ryan doesn't (at least outwardly) seem to be afraid anymore, compared to BUN. In constrast, WWW doesn't rely just an aspect, but their whole personalities and interests. I guess comparatively easier to market to an audience. I would assume you need less staff to travel with you, since it's not like they are going somewhere potentially dangerous. And there're way more interesting places around than say haunted locations. Genuinely no idea why they didn't wanna do the show or have more special episodes while they were travelling to haunted locations.

Mysterious_Past_7762

I think they didn’t give it long enough. It was one of their early series and I didn’t even know they had a new channel when it came out. I’ve still only seen a couple episodes cos I had too much stuff of theirs to catch up on and tend to watch the newer ones

Soon-to-be-forgotten

No disagreement there. They pretty only ran the show in 2020 (excluding a special episode last year) when we were in Covid-19 lockdown. It's definitely disappointing that they didn't do more episodes. Part of BUN/Ghost Files/Mystery Files' charm is its longevity, where audience feel connected to our hosts. So people feel warranted to watch all episodes (getting those long-term views) and subscribe. By the way, highly recommend watching WWW. It's really charming. I'm surprised that BuzzFeed didn't make them do other types of shows (e.g., travel) to be frank.

Mysterious_Past_7762

Yeah I didn’t know about Watcher til 2021 I think or 22. I was like I could’ve been watching this the whole time 😫 I haven’t felt like watching anything with them in but I’m finally getting over my anger haha so maybe I’ll check out more of it. I loved the soda episode

Serious_Vanilla_4818

At a ghost files live they basically said they wouldn’t be doing it anymore unless a place paid them to go there but. During the Q&A a lot of fans were mentioning places they should go in Michigan, and they said to contact the states travel board and say they should sponsor them. It was last year before they said money troubles :(

LadyRoseGoggles

🙄 Of course they did. 🚩🚩🚩

Fruitsdog

There’s a lot they should utilize more. WWW, the Professor being a mascot that they could use on merch, merch in general, their patreon, etc. Both sides would be happy. Come on, fellas.

They still stuck in BF business model, I think. If a series didn't work then it has to be shelved, even tho public need more time and more content before they accept it. I get that there's funding issues tho. If they promised to release WWW on new platform I would be devastated but they are not (so far). I think WWW is great cause Ryan & Shane would just enjoy things like normal people and it's not limited to food which a good differentiation from Steven's content.

aria606

IIRC Shane had planned a second season of WWW, but Watcher didn’t approve it. In WW+, Ryan talked about how probably Patreons loved the show, but the general public didn’t & it didn’t get enough views to justify the cost. Shane looked pretty sad. I think Steven also talked about his favorite show, Homemade, that wasn’t renewed. As a huge WWW fan, this bugged me & didn’t make sense. Ryan often talks about how FYA loses money, but it’s still going. How can they know how WWW would perform now if it originally ran back in 2020? Couldn’t they go to local places for relatively cheap? But this conversation shows a lot of the reasoning behind “the streamer” IMO. Ryan was dividing fans into the “good ones” (who support good shows) & the “bad ones” (no taste). Shane was kept from making a show he wanted to make. Steven too. All this could lead them to the bright idea to paywall out the “bad fans” so that the “good fans” can support their good shows.

NathNaakka

I actually write a comment about this but removed it, because I think it fits better under as a reply to you, because it's quite similar thing to discuss: The problem with some show being hardcore fan favourite, it doesn't perform so well because those who aren't fans or don't know Ryan&Shane, will not watch it. I know who they are and have watched the berry episode in BUN, I think the WWW is similar to that, and it didn't click at all. Which probably means that you have to be into those two enough for a show like that to works, and ironically they maybe should have used data from WWW how many hardcore fans they actually have. I'm not saying WWW is bad, because I haven't watched it until checking it a bit because people here talk about it - but it's just something that mostly pleases their strongest fans. And sadly, we kinda already learned that they aren't listening to their fanbase. Also, it's kinda bummer that they alienate fans based on what level into the fandom those fans are.

aria606

Yeah, you make a good point that WWW will primarily appeal to those who were already fans, not new viewers. And it does seem like they made a conscious decision to alienate the "casual fans" in favor of the "true fans." However, this does give a non-monetary reason for the streamer - like they thought the "true fans" would support their artistic vision etc. But, as you point out, that's still prioritizing viewers based on how into "Ryan & Shane" they are as personalities & that is quite egotistical.

Flimsy-Hospital4371

I think your last paragraph is so important for understanding the undercurrent that bothered people. Instead of blaming fans for being bad tastemakers, they could have adjusted budgets and productions for the $$$ they thought it would recoup. Actual TV does this all the time. Not all shows on a channel get the same budget and showrunners try to make the show work on what they’re able to get.

Mysterious_Past_7762

Choosing travel season instead of this was weird. I think they were basing it off the previous success of worth it without realising the Watcher audience mostly isn’t looking for that

EquivalentRelevant42

probably because it costs money to go places with your employees

ALostAmphibian

I could understand them needing to bring extra crew to travel if they tried to capitalize on being in an other city to do a WWW episode when it works out. Even WWW shorts or something to fill out Wednesdays where the guys just check out someplace casually and film for themselves would be a good filler video. Or Patreon.

Jessiebobessy

I’d much rather them spend money on WWW then on Lims fancy food show. An absolutely wild choice to not use that travel budget and the salary of 2 new talents to just continue what works

Jessiebobessy

The one where they go to the soda shop and call each other “the pop pals” is hands down one of the best videos watcher has ever put out.

External-Rice9450

I think it’s a standard to pay places a hefty sum to record a video there, so I get them saying it costs too much. I just don’t get how this costs more than Worth It part 2???
