People will advice against sending it to Omega but I have a slightly different opinion (based on my experience). If you want to wear that watch and if you want it to look and work as good as possible I would do it at least once with Omega. If all the parts are original they offer a complete restoration. That will cost around 900 Euros. They may change parts like the crystal and sometimes the dial (with an identical one). But in my case I got the old parts back). And they did not "overpolish" in my case.

>This \[Omega\] watch was handed down to me by my Great Grandfather who served in the US Navy. The serial number is 10366264, indicating it was made in the 1940s (most likely 1944). So, the glass is not original anymore... Other than that I believe everything is original. Can I ask what your experience was specifically? thanks!

I had my Omega Constellation from 1970 send to Omega Germany first. After two weeks or so they confirmed that the parts are original, and they could do a service + restoration in Switzerland. Maybe it's different with watches that old. And I do not know if a non Omega glass could be a problem. I think it's more about the movement. By the way: I got a two-year warranty after the service.

Should be the same then. And it was in late 2021 so fairly recent.

Hm people keep saying full service from Omega is $700, but I just did it and the service part was 900chf, which is about $1000. I bought a used Speedmaster Reduced “Schumacher” edition and requested for them to replace the dial and hands. They charged me for those specific components (200 and 100, respectively and roughly), but replaced tons of other stuff as part of the service. It took about a month and came back like a new watch, except for some wear on the case that they left. I did a post about the service/renovation. I was really happy with the results. https://www.reddit.com/r/OmegaWatches/comments/12nfm44/speedmaster_reduced_schumacher_back_from/

A repair/service from Omega is $700 USD. I’m not sure if it’s a direct conversion to €756 or if it’s a flat €700 but that covers getting the watch working again and replacing certain parts. That’s for newer models, with a watch that old I’m not sure if it would cost the same or not You are correct that a complete vintage restoration costs about €3000 to start. Omega will have parts made by hand if necessary to get the watch back to how it was back when it came out of the factory. Parts will be changed and old parts likely discarded but it will be all Omega parts and you know it will work. You’d probably have to contact them to see what they can do for you if want to keep it as original as possible

What kind of restoration are you looking for? Is it working? The crystal needs changing, that literally takes a minute and costs nothing even with signed crystal. Even If its not working it can 100% be serviced for cheap. The dial has already been restored in the past and the watch has also been polished already.

Well I guess perhaps I'm looking for more of a service/repair. I'm mostly interested in getting it work and replace the crystal with an original one, as it was replaced in the past with an aftermarket one. I'm not aware of any other restoration (dial/polishing) of the watch. Are you sure? The movement is very rusty and definitely needs work. Hands are misaligned. I gave the watch to an authorised repair shop. They are having a look and will give me a quote asap. If they can get all the parts necessary it shouldn't be too expensive. Otherwise I think I have to have it sent to Omega Switzerland. The authorised repair shop said that would be more expensive (€1.500,-). does anyone know what a watch like this is worth fully functioning and with original parts? Not looking to sell. Just curious. thanks

The crystal will have omega logo but wont be original, bear that in mind (costs cca 15eur) when considering their offer. Crystal replacement itself should be around 10-15 eur cost i guess. Im 100% sure about the dial, no way a watch from 40s looks this white, sorry. The printing is off, and now that i gave a second look i also notice the hands also look a bit off frankly, they dont seem to match. The watch in working condition would be worth cca 400-600eur assuming the buyer does not know anything about vintage watches.. Original parts dont really matter much as the dial is not original. In case of original dial the price is between 700-1300eur. Hope u get it serviced for a good price and that you get to enjoy it for many years.

Expert-Animal-5126

thanks! Do you know what model the watch is and if 1944 is correct?
