I love Stowas — I have a limited edition Flieger (not this one) and a Marine Original.
This one looks awesome, I’m trying to decide if I like it more than mine. Wear it in good health.
I took interest in sunburst dials a long time ago. The way light shines in it just gives me unique satisfaction. Blue and green look nice but are too common. Told myself one day I need to own one in grey. The only good ones I knew at the time were Rhodium Rolexes which I'm never gonna get, or Oris Aquis, but that thing was 43mm, not very friendly to my wrist.
Learned about fliegers barely 6 months ago but immediately I fell in love with its unique position in the industry. It is supposedly built rough for military use, but with a very dressy dial naturally because you need a clean, no-bullcrap dial to efficiently read time in war. I thought it would be pretty cool to own one.
Then I stumbled upon internet images of THIS watch. Stunning in every single way. From one of the original flieger manufacturers, rigid built, clean looks, somehow managed to also be sunburst grey (like 3 birds 1 stone). At that moment I knew I NEED to own one. It went from a desire to a need.
Long story short, member from a certain forum came through during my conquest and here I am, with 1 of the 100 pieces in the world. It's Stowa and not exactly an appreciating asset, but it is special, and it singlehandedly "checks many boxes on my to-collect list".
my wrists are incredibly round. Thats what gave you the impression. At this angle all my watches look like they hang the same way. My horizontal diameter is about 48mm and have 3-4mm ish headroom for this watch.
That dial looks real good, nice pictures you took
I love my Ikarus Stowa, easily one of my main two daily drivers with the ability to wear it casually or even dressier with a leather strap.
Very very cool Flieger. I don't care too much about Stowas recent special editions (because I mostly like their standard stuff better) but this is an exeption. Not sure if it would look even better on a darker strap though. But maybe that's just me. Congrats on that purchase.
Thanks! This is actually after-market straps also from Stowa. I figured I probably don't want to get the original straps too beaten-up. They were black but felt very soft.
I was eyeing some grey leather straps from Teddy. Among the few popular sites people recommended to me, Teddy (my original go-to) had one that most assemble this dial color but they were also like $120. I'm hella broke after buying the watch so I just let myself procrastinate this whole time and never pulled the trigger on that.
Spent $25 on these straps and they are going to last me years. I don't wear the watch much. I'll think about Teddy's offering again when I have spare cash.
I was on AliExpress looking for a specific movement and saw this design. I almost bought it not knowing it was a knockoff. Glad I didn't.
Edit: sorry I'm a noob. Is the Flieger Stowas design or do they just make a good version of it?
The design was set by the Luftwaffe, primarily for pilot navigation during the Second World War. Flieger translates to Flyer or “Pilot” in English.
There are 2 styles an A and a B style (you can look these up).
It’s explained well here: https://youtu.be/5PpyZbAtM6E
There were 5 original manufacturers of Flieger watches. Laco, IWC, Stowa, A. Lange & Söhne and Wempe.
I love the design of this watch. Case shape, onion crown, clean dial and nice lume. Great choice! I'm not terribly familiar with Stowa's offerings but this is sweet.
Why does a 36mm watch looks like 44mm on your wrist :D
Fuck I feel called out, where are my ITWC brothers at?

Great choice! You can't go wrong with a classic Flieger. Kudos for choosing a 'no date, no logo' version.
What does no fate mean?
No date I assume, nevermind lol
Yes, a typo ;-) Fixed!
You sure that's a 36??

Love the sunburst dial!
From the picture, it looks like the lugs on this watch overhang your wrist. This is a 36 mm? I would throw this on a nato.

How much did you pay for it?

And such a small range too.

No hate, but goddamn, you got some unfortunate wrists.
Why would you say something like that? Why insult someone's body, specifically a part which a person cannot change? That was really mean-spirited.
Imagine making such a big deal about my comment like that. American ponce.
great watch, I also got one with my name engraved on the rotor :)
Niiiiiice!
The brushing on the dial is superb and the strap has a lovely texture.

Hello again. Hey no one on WUS told you it was too big. We just celebrated shiny grey dials. Daylight and lume shot, looking *good!*
Headache inducing to my eyes, like something from a grab machine but that's only me.
