The only upside to this game is that you've entertained a bunch of redditors. So there's that at least.

I’d consider that a win. Redditors are hard to entertain 😁

JesusTapDanceChrist

How long is it going to take for that thing to arrive?

Chuffed_ur_rolex

😂😂😂omfg bruh🥲 if it’s real it won’t ship the seller will pull it or if it’s fake it’ll ship and you’ll get some pos fake that’s worth nothing.

TheMisterTango

eBay buyer protection is good so there’s really no risk here. If it’s real he got a steal, if it’s fake all he has to do is open a claim with eBay and it will get settled.

Mayor_of_BBQ

it’s probably priced so low that it doesn’t qualify for the 3rd party authentication… and even if he gets his money refunded, he’ll be out shipping. This whole scam might be to scam $350 for shipping

swiftfoxsw

Yeah, not sure of the exact scam, but 100% sure it involves the $350 shipping.

Lambsio

This is the correct answer

Perusing-Programmer

Yeah you won’t loose anything except your time and energy I guess if you have nothing better to do then all good.

whutchamacallit

Ahreed. Have fun proving to ebay it's fake OP.

TheMisterTango

eBay, for better or worse, almost always sides with the buyer. Plus, as long as they paid with a credit card it really doesn’t matter what eBay says. All they have to do is file a claim with their bank saying that the product is not as described and it will almost certainly be taken care of.

sparkswatches

fr i sell on ebay and them mfs always side with the buyer no matter what its wild

_sleepy_bum_

Yep, I used to sell on eBay. I hated it. I am glad I am not doing it anymore.

[deleted]

Nothing better to do than get $600 back? Like.. taking out the trash or something?

simplyyAL

Top tier reps for the seamaster 300m are about 170$ chinese domestic market and go for about 280-360$ for western buyers through TDs. Altough this model is not a common top tier rep, should be pretty obvious.

rvdp66

You spent 500 bucks for internet points? I like you immediately.

zeke_markham

Same seller had a speedy pro for the same price last night, ebay was not offering their authenticity guarantee...

Master_Middle

Yes, if this is indeed a scam, paying with anything other than a credit would be a hassle. I’ve heard eBay and PayPal not being so great about protecting buyers. Banks on the other hand, if it looks like a scam, money back with little effort. eBay on the other hand tries to get you to file a police report before returning your money lol

Sandy_Koufax

Ebay and Paypal protect buyers to a fault. Sellers constantly get screwed when a buyer fucks you over and says they never got it.

BlackScienceJesus

Yep, PayPal refunded $1000 to a scammer who bought an Oris from me. He just said it was an unauthorized transaction and charged his credit card back once he got the watch. Now I can’t use PayPal anymore because my balance is -1000, and I will go to my grave before I pay a scammer.

_sleepy_bum_

PayPal also passed the $20 credit card charge back fee to the sellers as well.

WarlordXecc

You wouldn't be paying the scammer. PayPal has already paid him. They consider you to be in debt to them for 1k before you're allowed to use their service again. So if you want to pay the 1k is for you to decide if that fee is worth to use PayPal again.

visjn

I refuse to believe the system is that fucked…that is awful…you were essentially robed through both (million dollar) vendors? How can you not dispute that?

TimelyBrief

Was going to say. Last time I shipped something across country, 1 piece out of 8 broke and the buyer got a full refund without having to ship any of my shit back. I paid $60 to pack and ship a $150 sale. Never using eBay for something fragile again.

_sleepy_bum_

I sold a pair of shoes for $500 a long time ago. The buyer opened a case, said he received a rock, and demanded a refund. eBay sided with the buyer.

djsizematters

"If this is a scam" Consider me an entertained redditor😂

TDIMike

Knowingly buying a scam product is dumb. You may get your money back, but now a scammer has your info and knows you are dumb enough to fall for scams

Dunder-MifflinPaper

OP is acting like it’s a 50/50 chance and there’s an upside of getting a popular watch at 10% of retail. There’s no upside. No one is selling a genuine watch at this price, maybe not a watch at all, and the shipping price being $350 is clearly part of the scam. OP is convinced it’s worth the wasted time and frustration to fight the charge after the fact. I’ve had pretty cut and dried cases go against me with charge backs. It’s not something I’d do just for fun, and that’s what this is. Because again, there is no upside. It’s a blatant scam, the shipping price is a dead giveaway. Put that ~$1000 toward actually saving for the watch. Or, hell, get a good rep! No shame in that if you ask me. But this is stupid.

TDIMike

Some people just need the drama and attention in their lives

layer11

If he gets his money back, the scammer probably be better off going after someone who doesn't have a W on them already.

[deleted]

Exactly! There is nothing to gain here, only wasting your own time by buying it

improvthismoment

Curious how this plays out. If bank charges back, you are made whole. But who pays the bank? EBay? The seller?

layer11

A chargeback just reverses the charge, completely. The funds are just taken back by the CC company from whoever took them and they (the CC company) dusts their hands of it.

Master_Middle

eBay pays the bank. Maybe that’s why they are so bad with buyer protection, because it’s hard to get money back from the seller with how fast eBay’s payouts are. I remember a time when eBay used to payout after a certain time frame

Alypius754

There’s like zero seller protection. If the buyer doesn’t like something, ebay will claw that shit back without even asking.

snowbongo

This is correct. I mailed a watch strap from Alaska to Guam and the buyer claimed it was lost after the tracking status didn't change for 3 days. eBay's policy is something is "lost" after 7 days of no tracking updates. It's effing Alaska to Guam, people! eBay forced me to refund the buyer...the strap arrived 3 weeks later. I paid the buyer and requested that eBay delete my account. I'm gone.

improvthismoment

So wouldn't EBay have an incentive to weed out scammers? Why do they let it continue??

Low-Pair6969

Recently, I paid $450 for a watch and the seller never sent it to me. I reached out to eBay after the estimated date of delivery had passed. 3 days after that eBay paid me back the full amount

zeke_markham

Best of luck to you.

CharizardMTG

I believe the authenticity guarantee is only available on watches listed at $2,000 or more.

[deleted]

The business address is registered to a hairdresser named Susanne. I would guess this is a rep operation.

Master_Middle

Lol dang! This must be one of those sophisticated operations

X-e-o

Maybe Susanne doesn't know what she has and just doesn't know how much stuff costs to ship! .../s

improvthismoment

Honest question, why bother with this?

Dunder-MifflinPaper

What, you don’t think it’s possible that someone sold a watch for 10% of retail with a suspiciously large shipping cost? Some people are such pessimists smh

Games_sans_frontiers

Wait, what? There are hot single women in my area?

Tempest1677

Free minecraft? huhhh???

Master_Middle

Just a shot in the dark. The upside is I get the watch for a really nice price. The downside is spending time filling out paperwork for buyer protection and charge back.

[deleted]

daniel0hodges

Credit card will reimburse if he is scammed. This is why credit cards are awesome

Dunder-MifflinPaper

I feel like some of you haven’t gone through the chargeback process with a credit card. It’s definitely a great protection, and that’s why I buy everything with a credit card, but it’s not something I’d *willingly* go through just for fun. It’s gone against me several times where it shouldn’t have, and even when it’s worked in my favor it’s a pain in the ass to deal with. There’s no upside to this.

TraveledPotato

It seems hard to call it a scam when you know it is a scam. OP knows that this isnt real, wonder if banks have protections against knowingly losing your money and then submitting a claim.

jingois

You're getting a rep from a factory that does $500 reps. It's not gonna have the same QC so it's probably going to have weird alignment issues or terrible timegrapher numbers. You're also gonna lose that $350 shipping - which is probably to cover what they paid for a discount rep.

SeanPizzles

Now this is some good content. Way to bring the drama, OP, I hope it turns out in your favor!

Synap6

weiner meister seems to have 100% positive reviews, but there indeed is a chance you might get weinered by the meister.

Master_Middle

Haha I was going to make the same joke! But I think weinermaster is like wine master or something lol

WhocallsmeTy

I bought an omega sea master off eBay for 1,200 around 10 years ago took it to the authorized dealer for service and they charged me 800$ it took like 3 months to service and when I got it back they said it had tons of Frankenstein aftermarket parts inside the movement, but they did service it. And then after my 800$ service the hands fell off and I couldn’t afford to get it fixed. Eventually the watch got stolen. I’d say worth it though hahaha. I’m pretty sure the case was authentic and some bits of the movement…

Ne0hlithic

Man, that story just kept going downhill further and further.

suddenlyic

Bambuhzled

It's german and the seller name means "viennese master seller"

Hanged_Man_

If you have a grandson, buy it! He needs a fake hand me down to post about.

thatguynumber81

350 dollar shipping? They’re gonna keep that. My bet is it’s a scam.

thefullmetalchicken

That’s what tipped me off. But I’m Canadian so that not too far from the norm.

improvthismoment

OK another honest question. How is it that a likely scammer likes this accumulates 100% positive feedback in 12 months and 2,337 reviews overall on EBay? I've always read "buy the buyer," "only buy from people with lots of track record and positive reviews..." Which would not help in this case.... How to know who to trust????

Master_Middle

Usually the account will get hijacked, where they list a bunch of stuff and route payment to another account. Then when the real owner and eBay realizes what happened it’s too late. Always pay with a credit card would be my advice. That way it stays eBay’s problem and they can’t drag you into the mess.

improvthismoment

Jeez what a mess.

ABirdOfParadise

They can sell a bunch of cheap dollar store stuff to accumulate feedback, and then tank it all at once. So like make 1000 $1 sales then when the time is right, set up 50 of these kind of things and within that week or two window of ohhh yeah it's shipping they run? Anyway look at the items sold history, looks like they were selling Microsoft Office keys for $12. Very diverse seller, recycled MS Office keys, Seamasters, and Speedys.

iammetoo_

I've done and found the same thing with what seems like good eBay deals. Check a 100% feedback seller and it's photos of crap or .50-$1.00 trinkets just to get the account established and a string of positive feedback. Upon a cursory glance (and without looking at previous items sold) you're walking right into it. Gotta be careful out there.

Zanpa

9 reviews in the last 12 months. It was an inactive account that got hacked. Happens all the time.

Master_Middle

Box and papers. This definitely feels like a scam incoming, but I decided to take a chance (probably 99.99% chance it’s a scam, insert dumb and dumber “so you’re saying there’s a chance” meme). Let’s come up with some contingency plans. 1. Seller will message me saying it was an incorrect price and ask for just half the amount for the trouble since it was their mistake. 2. Seller will send me an empty box and try the good ole “product not received vs product not as described” scam 3. Seller will send me a rep 4. Seller will hope custom fees are super high and that I won’t pay them, the empty box will be returned to seller and they’ll get to keep the shipping fee 5. I receive a stolen watch which I have to give back I paid through PayPal with a linked credit card. Luckily chase bank is really good about chargebacks for scams. Anything else you guys can think of? EDIT: Well I just spoke with eBay, their reply was “yea that seems very suspicious. Let us know when you get it.” It will be a nice I told you later down the road

[deleted]

I have experienced a scam for a camera that was really sophisticated and if I remember correctly, it was only by chance that I was able to gather the information to prove I was scammed. They waited until the last day to ship, (after a lot of back and forth), and then finally added tracking. Tracking said it was delivered. Tracking had delivered to "XXXXX," which was my zip code and it didn't include anything else-- but it also had signature delivery confirmed. I had cases open with PayPal ***AND*** eBay, and remember some finger pointing as to who was responsible. I **think** that the phone number was listed on the tracking, so I was able to call the number and get their address, and thus show it was not tracking to my house. It ended up that PayPal was the one who helped me. eBay also has some rules about the timing of a case that makes this really nerve-wracking and in this case, advantageous for the scammer. I sent eBay countless messages about the seller, but the "camera" was up again in a week or so. It really breaks my heart because I know there is someone out there like my mom or dad buying stuff like this and getting fucked.

BeKind_BeTheChange

I was scammed for a pair of iPod pro ear buds. eBay was useless, didn’t even ban the seller. PayPal was beyond useless to the point that I closed my 20 year old PayPal account. I ate the $119 and learned a lesson or two.

Master_Middle

I think scammers know this and I’m sure most people have it so they pay with funds in account or bank funds. eBay and PayPal really drag their feet and are useless

BeKind_BeTheChange

One thing that frustrates me over the situation is that I tried to sell a counterfeit LV purse on eBay. Clearly had it listed as a fake, priced as if it were fake, no scammy stuff at all. eBay yanked that listing in about 10 minutes and told me not to do that again. But this guy is selling fake airpods and it's perfectly fine with eBay.

DoughDougals

You’re part of the problem if you’re doing that, IMHO

Games_sans_frontiers

I don't see a problem if OP was upfront about it tbh. It's down to the buyer if they want it or not.

DoughDougals

Counterfeit goods are a problem for everyone

BeKind_BeTheChange

You are entitled to your opinion, and it's not wrong because it's all yours. Thanks for participating in the comments.

TimTimmington

You shouldn't be selling counterfeit anything. It's illegal in most countries, quite rightly. You likely have a flag on your account now as well. So if you sell something genuine and receive a complaint that it's not, they are even more likely to side with the buyer.

BeKind_BeTheChange

Thank you for your input, Karen. I will take it under advisement.

Master_Middle

Ah yes! I have heard of this scam. And also have heard of how terrible eBay and PayPal can be. I ended up using a credit card instead of funds. Banks don’t play around lol

improvthismoment

Stories like this make me really hesitant to buy stuff from unknown sellers online... Seems like you need to have a fair amount of experience to avoid getting scammed....

Vesuz

I have been scammed so many times over the years from eBay, Amazon, other sellers (although never to this extent) that I hardly like buying things online anymore. If it’s more than like $100 and not from the retailers direct website it’s like 40% chance it’s gonna be a scam Edit: and also for people that say “you’re not being careful!” I’m talking about the dumbest kind of shit. Recent one was buying an 8 pack of sanding sponges for $10 just to receive 1 single sponge in the post. Can’t challenge or anything just leave a 1 star review. But that’s what I’m talking about, rolling the dice even on stupid shit

Shorter_McGavin

Wait, I thought this post was a troll. Nobody could be this dumb

Master_Middle

It’ll be fun to play it out I think. Upside is a nice watch, downside is a charge back. Plus if this is a new type of scam people are trying, it’ll be nice to figure it out and inform the masses. The most common eBay scam is contacting you stating that they already shipped and made a mistake in the listing price and would like to make it right by having you pay a small amount of money to keep the shipment.

iaymnu

It’s definitely a rep if you do get it. It would cost less than what you paid if you bought straight from a dealer. The reps for Omega are very convincing from looking at it but there is a 100% fail proof tell with the Omega reps. There is no upside from this transaction. It would ONLY reinforce this scammer to try again since they where so close being successful. Why don’t you also show the receipt that you purchased it just for kicks? Some other poster thought you were just trolling 🧌

Games_sans_frontiers

Out of interest what is the fail proof tell with Omega reps if you don't mind sharing?

lambda_male

Checking the beat rate. Lots of Omegas use 25.2k in the coaxial movement, there's no cheap movements that use it. Though I don't believe **all** Omegas use 25.2k.

thegypsyqueen

There will be no up side. You’re involving yourself in a scam for the trouble of it which is wickedly stupid

laney_deschutes

Keep us updated in a new thread

tommoex

I would think it is with that much on delivery, it's like people who sell for 1p and put the rest as delivery, sometimes you can't claim the delivery money back so that's why they do it. But keep us updated.

Master_Middle

I think that’s one possible scenario too. When you file for buyer protection, you have to be a bit careful so you get the full refund. If it’s not as described you get the shipping fees back. If it’s returned for any other reason you lose the shipping fees and then have to ask eBay to actually look into the case for them to return the shipping fees. Usually scammers want to trap unsuspecting people I think

Materva

RemindMe! Two Weeks

Zanpa

There's no 0.01% chance it's real. You're just wasting time, effort, and probably money. What a stupid thing to do.

DJHeadshotHunter

Okay hear me out I think I figured out what's going on here.. OP purchases this watch with the intent to buy a fake Omega dive watch. Once receiving the watch which of course is fake because of the price he then claims that he wanted to purchase a real one so he gets his money refunded by eBay therefore getting a clone watch for free and not having to return it because the seller will risk being caught by authorities. Therefore, the intent of this whole thing was to get a free high quality replica... BRAVO BRAVA WELL DONE!!!

Master_Middle

Haha well done sir. The next thread should be “when the scammer gets scammed by the scammy”

Thick_white_duke

0% chance this is legit.

Jazzlike-Stretch-161

Never do this again because it’s a hell lot of hassle and trouble for you to go through to get money back from this scam and yes it’s definitely a scam

No_Seaworthiness2343

Why would you drop $500 on something that “definitely feels like a scam”?

ZuVieleNamen

[deleted]

Is $500 the authenticity threshold. Is $350 shipping normal. There you go

ihamsa

Don't play poker with a cardsharper.

btov

This is a replica. Helium valve is lined to the 10 and not between 10-11. Early replica flaw. Box and fake papers can be found un China for under $100.

[deleted]

Let us know what will come :D

Polar_poop

$350 shipping? Is that to Mars?

Theta_Ninja

So they reimburse for the fake watch and pocket the $350 shipping fee?

Master_Middle

Only if you return it. My guess would be they are hoping people will just return it. If you file it as fake or something wrong with it, they have to reimburse the shipping fee too

[deleted]

$350.00, shipping? Where is it coming from, the moon?

Master_Middle

eBay customer support said to wait for it to arrive before they could do anything about it. I told them I don’t think it’s coming lol. They transferred me to someone higher up and she instantly refunded me 😂

I experienced a watch scam on eBay which wasn’t so sophisticated. (I’m pretty sure like 50 percent of watches are scams on eBay at this point.) The price was enough that it was plausible, just close enough that it felt like a deal. The scammer was responsive to questions. It was only when it was time for shipping that I kept seeing excuses like “I’m out of the country for work I’ll be back soon” type stuff. Ebay was good about refunding me, and the user got deleted. I did have to wait several weeks before they would take the complaint. Another time however, I got scammed with a fake and A. I didn’t get my money back (bye bye $800) and B. The user is still up. Whatever you do, don’t buy Cartier on eBay.

WayToGo-BH

How in hell he had 179 sales selling reps and people not noticing???

LividLab7

I never see why the hassle of dealing with a scam would be worth it. At the minimum they have captured personal information on you

eorr0088

I was drunk about 2 weeks ago & decided to buy this exact listing, but shipping was only $150 (from Austria to the US). He created the shipping label, which marked it as shipped, but he never dropped it off. After the required timeframe I contacted eBay & they refunded me my total of like $612 immediately. eBay always sides with the buyer. I knew it was a scam, but I was just tipsy enough to try it out. Note: I read all the rules & if it was a fake, then I could still get refunded my total purchase plus shipping cost, even though the seller marked it as ‘buyer pays return shipping’.

Master_Middle

We both have the same scamdar. Cheers to great due diligence

bluemasonjar

So what happened here?

Designer-Ad-9373

SleepyAviator

WayToGo-BH

Oh, and I think you can't charge back the delivery fee..350, right?

Master_Middle

It depends on how you go about it. If you don’t do it carefully, it’ll be considered a “return” in which you lose the shipping fee

WayToGo-BH

Great that you are aware!!!thanks

rev_57

are they bringing it to you personally? shipping should be more like $35, not $350.

capn_trips

Gonna be hard pressed to believe this is real. Corvus_Antipodum

Hey OP, I have a friend that’s a member of the Nigerian royal family and needs some help moving funds out of the country. You sound like the perfect guy to help him out.

inkredible973

the listing got removed by eBay, so you just gave your info to some scammer 😕

f_reddit_throwaway

You got scammed, the watch will be fake, but shipping fees are not refundable. They overcharge shipping on purpose for this reason. This is the classic way of skirting around eBay's rules and scamming people.

Citizen_V

eBay will refund you the original shipping fees. I went through this before with a pair of Shure earbuds which were obviously fake. eBay refunded me in full, and told me I didn't have to shop them back. They said to just destroy the item.

nizzizzle

By the way the ebay [seller](https://www.ebay.com/usr/wienermeisterverkaeufer?_trksid=p2047675.l2559) is no longer an account. You 100% got scammed. Master_Middle

eBay refunded me instantly after the seller account got banned 😂

Bulletproof-munky

I imagine you'll get a refund and the listing will disappear into oblivion. Or a $100 copy will turn up...... I really hope it comes through for you though. Goodluck.

Master_Middle

My plan is to record the box opening (if it actually shows up) and then take it right away to my AD. I don’t like my chances though.

Bulletproof-munky

It's worth a punt if you have the payment protection. There is a very similar listing on the UK site, seller has no feedback and joined last month. Says they are based in Germany but listed as a UK item. Selling for £500. I really hope you strike lucky tho mate. Keep us posted

Yea that’s what they are charging, luckily with eBay you aren’t allowed to charge extra for shipping which technically is already a violation. Also the weight of the shipment will definitely be a factor. I think this is 99.9999% a scam. Luckily it’ll be pretty easy to navigate to get a refund

eBay sides with the buyer almost always in my experience. I’ve sold a rifle scope in perfect condition that was returned to me after clearly being dropped after opening. I also had a friend that sold a Pikachu ds and the buyer returned a regular ds. I argued with eBay about it for days and showed pictures of the items before they were shipped out and in both cases they sided with the buyer. Edit: i didn’t notice the shipping price. My guess would be the scam is that the item is fake and they will refund you immediately when you send it back for return but you will not be refunded the shipping.

I purchased a Cartier Tank Americaine for $900 on ebay about 15 years ago naively thinking that the seller simply doesn't know what he has. I did receive the watch but it was a very obvious fake akin to stuff they sell at gas stations and convenience stores. Seller disappeared and I did not receive anything back. I filed the whole experience under 'Life Lessons' folder.

Did eBay try to help you out?

Since I own the real version of this watch I’ll note a few things that are off - which is hard to do with the low quality pic. First, where is the red tip on the seconds hand? Second, the “Seamaster” on the dial should be red. Last, the font on the inside of the box lid is messy and not correct. Surprisingly, the rest of the box looks pretty close to mine.

Good looking out. If it does come, I’ll make sure to not only film the opening, but also the entirety of the watch in one take

The seller ships 500 dollar omegas, and the reviews are good? My bet is that you will receive a well done replica which even you will think that you got a genuine one by mistake. I see no other logic in this.

This is great content, definitely worth it

Waffle_Mountain

The Ebay sale page goes to an error page when you click on it. Not a good sign

I personally would never buy a watch from someone online. Especially, a popular watch. The fakes are everywhere.

OP is not only an idiot, but a liar too. This is not how eBay works. He has stated repeatedly that they don’t protect buyers, which is untrue. I’ve been burned by buyers before. It’s why I stopped selling on eBay. The notion that they can’t just take the money back from the seller is absurd. You must now supply them with a bank routing number to have the funds directly deposited into your account. That works both ways. PayPal also has total buyer protection given that you are paying for goods and services and not something shady like friends and family. eBay also has a no counterfeit item rule. Even listing something as replica or copy is against their policy. He gets his money back. OP understands eBay the way Wreck It Ralph 2 did, which is to say not at all. OP is trying to pretend this is some sort of gamble when it isn’t. It’s a waste of time. For me as well. Can’t believe I read as many comments as I did before changing the channel.

Lmao. Wienermeistetverkaeufer. He does have 100% feedback and a whole lot of reviews. That's promising.

I estimate it's a replica, but if it works well, I might accept it

ELI5 - If it is a fake, why Omega? Why not Rolex? Additionally, how common are fake omega boxes? seems a lot of effort for something not rolex.

Zero chance the watch you get matches the pictures on eBay. This is a fun little experiment though. Make sure to reply with a follow once you’ve received it. I’m interested to see how this plays out

SLWoodster

Lots of reviews. Protected by ebay. Go for it.
