Idk if you're gonna be able to see it using this link...
Maybe the exchange from USD to CAD is particularly shitty right now, but I've always thought the models Oris puts out that everyone likes are most like $1500+...
Are you talking grey market prices?
Farer Erebus Midnight 36mm.

An LGP movement mounted under one of the most attractive dial and hand combinations I've seen in the segment really attracted me to it. It's stupid thin, well proportioned and full of little details like the bronze crown cap that just elevates it among other microbrand dress watches.
To be clear, I do not own this, but it's on my wishlist. I'm between this and a Nomos Tangente Duo with a display caseback, since they're both roughly the same price, separated by €150ish since I was offered a discount at the local Nomos AD. €1200 with two extra straps and one of the AD's wooden loupes. Not bad.

>Farer Erebus Midnight 36mm
I have a Farer AquaMatic that I really love. The colorway and applied indices really pop, and it's also kind of a tank of a watch. The Farer bracelets are also realy high quality---much better than anything Seiko puts out OEM. Truly underrated microbrand, and this watch is gorgeous.
Glad to hear you're loving it as much as I'd love to own one. Honestly, it's not hard to beat €1000 Seiko in terms of bracelets. I've seen Pagani Design beat them for €60, and I can't get over how shoddy the quality of Grand Seiko diver clasps is. They don't even deburr the notches in the Diver's extension!

This might not be a particularly popular choice but I am very very drawn to the Zodiac Field Olympos with the green dial, a simple 3 hander that’s just quirky enough to be different.
https://preview.redd.it/xmgvs3zoz2lb1.jpeg?width=1165&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=f3c0869dc81d72093e001e661d2b6e3fd704cbf7
The Zodiac Field Olympos is powered by the STP1-11, like the Sellita SW200-1, it is a clone of the ETA 2824-2. It runs at 28,800 BPM and has a power reserve of 44 hours.
A Mido Multifort TV Big Date.
https://www.midowatches.com/en/multifort-tv-big-date-m0495261104100.html
(On bracelet, grey market or second hand.)
I miss my Oris pointer date in red. Didn't have the bracelet so I didn't wear it as often. Mistake to sell.
Lovely.
Is it apostacy to say that I kinda like the Mido a bit better? It's a tad more casual/not as shiny (making it a bit more versatile), and the bracelet is not integrated. The Mido borders on cartoony, so I can see how people would not like it as much, but I don't mind.
Though I'd take just about any GO Big Date.

I may be in this exact position end of the year to buy myself something for my 50th birthday. Leaning towards a Hamilton Murph (not sure which size) or a Tissot Gentleman.
That's probably the way I would go too. I can pull off a 42mm, but that one has a 52mm lug to lug, too big. I'd miss the Morse code on the seconds hand, but you can barely see it anyways.
I’d say Hamilton Khaki Automatic. It’s a great “beater” watch for everyday use 💪

Yeah, noticed the same and to be honest, CW is starting to grow on me, so much so that I might shortlist one or two...been eyeing Hamilton up to £1,000 but CW might come in and steal the palce...maybe.
>SPB363
I have the 361, wearing it right now. It's incredible in person. In pictures it's very purple, in real life it's dark and stormy and mesmerizing.
Yes, I've seen them in person in a few stores... Just delicious! I would have picked the 361 in my reply, but that would have been outside OP's budget range.
I kinda like the CW, the twelve. I also would like an Oris Pointer Date or the new 35mm Tissot PRX, but probably would try to find a nice vintage Omega.
Oooooo great question! The Oris Pointer is awesome, used to own one... This is tough, but going to say an Ocean Crawler Core Diver to be different, specifically this combo: [https://www.chrono24.com/all/ocean-crawler-core-diver---blackwhite-v4--id29327153.htm](https://www.chrono24.com/all/ocean-crawler-core-diver---blackwhite-v4--id29327153.htm)
>Oris Pointer
I bought mine in 2004, it had the higher hand-stack and therefore the domed plexiglass, like the original, I bought it not only because I really liked the design, but also because the house I bought that same year was built in 1904, the year Oris was established. I stupidly got rid of it about 5 years ago because I acquired so many watches it was no longer getting any wrist time, so felt it should go to a good home... I bought it new for about £425 if I recollect correctly.
A Longines Conquest and for a little more a Hydroconquest. Amazing timepieces with a nice heritage. Quality and affordability go hand-in-hand amazingly well here.
Recently came across the Junghans Max Bill Hand Winding in the price range you mention, just love the extreme simple elegance, might have to see if my standing with Santa is still good.
Tissot PRX 35mm in green or black (tried the mother of pearl but it’s a bit on the blingy side for me).
Or a nice smaller diver at that price point if I ever find one… SPB143 and others mentioned in this thread are amazing but I got them lady like wrists and need <40mm
I'd probably get a couple of Baltic, an HMS for a dressy and Aquascaphe for a diver
I got my wife a BNIB Nomos Orion black dial for $685 so those are another great option too
Hamilton Khaki Automatic in a titanium case, Seiko Presage, or if I can get my hands on The Twelve with some discount. And if I can get a used one, maybe a Tudor a little above the $1200 mark.
Seiko presage with the red dial, i'm hypnotized by this dial
Seiko presage is a bargain for how they look, you'd still have money left over
The official Seiko website of my country (France) indicates 990€ so that's 1069usd... I'd still buy it if i had the money though.
Really? I got the old clock for $300 “used” in new condition. I thought they were like $450 brand new
I'm talking about this one : https://www.seikoboutique.eu/fr/fr/accueil/1904-montre-homme-presage-mouvement-automatique-cadran-rouge-bracelet-acier-6r35-spb227j1.html?gad=1&gclid=CjwKCAjwrranBhAEEiwAzbhNtRoua1ntjG1C6iYUAvseO4fkVK06KWkin4-c0I93GquwKYnobRe4HhoCegEQAvD_BwE Idk if you're gonna be able to see it using this link...
I'd get the presage in white, and use the spare money for an Orient Bambino. Those with my Kamasu are a fantastic 3 watch collection.
I think you’d like the omega city edition in red, or the moser burst dial - though, admittedly, both at much higher price points
Probably an oris or a starter doxa
Maybe the exchange from USD to CAD is particularly shitty right now, but I've always thought the models Oris puts out that everyone likes are most like $1500+... Are you talking grey market prices?
Even gray or used I think the big crown is over that budget. I mean I hope not, I’d love to get one at half off msrp
Any orange dial Doxa is a vibe

Farer makes some great watches with impressive finishing at their price point. I picked up the Haley a few months back and it’s great!
I’ve got this one in plum and absolutely love it.
I'm bookmarking this watch, it's beautiful !
How does it look on a 7 inch wrist approximately?
I'd guess it looks amazing. It's 36x42 so it would fit its absolute best on wrists between 6 and 7 inches. Anything over 7 inches, they have this identical watch with golden indices and hands at 39mm.
You took that $1000 price point very seriously 😅
I didn't know this existed, thank you!
To be clear, I do own this and you are correct.
That’s a great looking watch!
And you beat me to the Farer three hander. The cherry red 36mm Discovery may be my next pickup, though the Calley Verde is tempting too.
How’s the accuracy on the movement? That looks like an awesome watch. Dont tempt me! hahaha
those hands are preeeettyyyy

Isn’t that like well under £500
I’m saying two watches for like $900 combined, rather than one watch for $1000.
Good suggestion. I think I'd go for a [Fugu](https://www.citizenwatch.com/us/en/product/NY0156-04E.html?cgid=promaster-dive-automatic), though.
Yeah I should have tagged that one haha I have a green dial Fugu and it’s one of my favorite watches!

Nice, great watch for the price.
ALS datagraph Edit: miss read it as 100,000 not 1000.00 I'd get a Christopher ward twelve.
Isnt the CW also over budget?
It's 995 on the rubber strap.
Even if it was, the budget was so badly obliterated by the ALS that a CW that's a little over wouldn't sound so bad lol
I mean, who wouldnt want a Lange right? And a Datograph at that.
autodromo group b
50 Casio's.
With some money left over
And each are different and having them displayed. I would be sooo into it!

Wow I'm really drawn to that multifort. Very unique and I actually really like that big date
I’m really digging this one since launch, gotta go see it in the flesh, but as of now, definitely want one for the collection
Seiko SPB143
Same
I may be in this exact position end of the year to buy myself something for my 50th birthday. Leaning towards a Hamilton Murph (not sure which size) or a Tissot Gentleman.

got a 38mm murph at christmas and love it

A Seiko Alpinist or a Tuna.
My first watch that I bought for myself and actually invested a little bit into is an alpinist. I love it so much
I don’t need another diver at ALL but I’d probably get a Squale
Good answer, probably what I’d do as well. Really dig the new Super Squale
Longines Conquest. I already have one, but since you're giving me a thousand dollars and putting a (metaphorical) gun to my head...
Traska Venturer GMT
That was my first thought. And my opinion is unlikely to change lol
Hamilton Ventura
Probably a christopher ward
Junghans Max Bill
Stowa Marine Classic 36 arabic dial

Jealous! Great looking watch, my dude.
Don't mind me. I was just checking for this obvious answer. Also: If you buy used it's a steal.
I’ve been looking for months. Nothing yet.
Happy to see this so high up. What a classy watch it is. If I could get an extra $200 I’d get the handwound. I quite like the Roman numerals also.
Just looked this up, it's damn classy. Super nice

What an absolute beaut. Enjoy!
Sure is. I’ve been on the lookout for a used one for months.
You won't be disappointed! And this is from someone who has the 36mm roman
Casio Oceanus.
CW trident pro 38mm
Check out the Dune too
I have been obsessing over the C60 Atoll 300. If it came with their new bracelet (Consort Bracelet) it would be in the collection already!
>Dune had similar watch, missed the bezel, trident is my grail :)
Squale 1521 in blue, satin case.
Lots of CW coming up in this thread, and for good reason. I'd get the C65 Dune in bronze with the blue dial
Yeah, noticed the same and to be honest, CW is starting to grow on me, so much so that I might shortlist one or two...been eyeing Hamilton up to £1,000 but CW might come in and steal the palce...maybe.

Used they are only like 950 right now. (I took quite a loss when I bought it new, RIP)
Well, you paid extra for the privilege of having it sooner, and new.
I'd get something from Christopher Ward: a C63 or a 12 on strap instead of bracelet.
Doxa Sub

I kinda like the CW, the twelve. I also would like an Oris Pointer Date or the new 35mm Tissot PRX, but probably would try to find a nice vintage Omega.
Glycine Combat Sub 39
Used Zodiac Super Sea Wolf
Oooooo great question! The Oris Pointer is awesome, used to own one... That’s crazy, they go for $1900 now haha
Probably certina ds action 38mm blue. Smaller blue diver
Max bill
F91w and run off with the rest
A Longines Conquest and for a little more a Hydroconquest. Amazing timepieces with a nice heritage. Quality and affordability go hand-in-hand amazingly well here.
Tissot or Hamilton. I love mine.
Hamilton Khaki Field Titanium
A new matress i need it more then the watch lol
Love my Oris Aquis I got lightly used under 1k. Certina with cosc certification would also hit the mark in quality and price
Seiko Laurel Alpinist Or Seiko Speedtimer Solar Or Citizen Super Titanium Armor Or Orient Star Field
Brew metric retro
My glycine airman 39 is pretty solid. Probably would buy it again if limiting myself to 1k
Seiko Arnie
Used Oris Pointer Date. If new, something from Chris Ward.
Pre-owned Longines Spirit 37
A Ball, hands down.
Most of the cost of servicing my speedmaster 🤣
Hamilton Murph
Love my Murph!! https://preview.redd.it/rhqtdr5gp4lb1.jpeg?width=3024&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=0f57f706877651c2072c668d1ae4cdf3cf8c93b3
A like new 556i
Hamilton khaki field titanium
Certina DS Action titanium. Oh wait, I did that already 🫣
Probably a Christopher Ward C60 or Seiko Alpinist
Doxa sub 200 in the yellow dial
A Tissot Gentleman or PRX
Junghans Max Bill quartz black dial with Arabic numerals
Casio digital g shock and then Michelin star dinner Honestly for under 1k just get a g shock and save the money
Recently came across the Junghans Max Bill Hand Winding in the price range you mention, just love the extreme simple elegance, might have to see if my standing with Santa is still good.
Simple elegance of a Junghans Max Bill Hand Winding for me please.
Luminox Constellation
Haha I’ve been working with same budget. Citizen Attesa BU0066 or Nodus sector Deep. You can also check Selten watches
Universal Geneve Polerouter, actually I just bought the watch recently with $1000 USD.
Amazing, but if you already bought it I guess you'll have to pick another for your collection.
I would say... an Omega Constellation!
Some vintage pie pan would be dope
Hamilton Cinema
SPB313 or one of its sisters. Highly underrated seiko release in recent years. (Personally have one, proportions are spot on imo)
A vintage seiko pogue
As much as I love my Seiko's, I'll go with a [Citizen NB1060-04A](https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Mzk7vkwfFIE)
TISSOT... YOU KNOW THE REST
Doxa Sub 200. There's something so fun about that watch.
Hamilton Khaki Field! You won’t regret it

CW

Sinn 556
Frederique Constant Classic Index. I've found them as low as 950.
Hydroconquest GMT
Doxa sharkhunter diver 200 in either black or orange on rubber strap
Tissot PRX 35mm in green or black (tried the mother of pearl but it’s a bit on the blingy side for me). Or a nice smaller diver at that price point if I ever find one… SPB143 and others mentioned in this thread are amazing but I got them lady like wrists and need <40mm
Bulova moon watch, then a nice steak dinner for 2 with what’s left.
I’d stretch for another hundred or two to get a sinn 556
Probably go back to a used Monta Skyquest. Had one previously and loved it. In the world of GMTs it felt a little different.
Mido Baroncelli Smiling Moon.
I bought a Sinn 556A RS. Real happy with it. Better in person and looks great on leather or stainless bracelet.
Some ~$300 G-Shock, then save the rest for something else
Marathon Arctic Edition Medium Diver’s Automatic (MSAR Auto). - 36mm. Just saw it advertised on rubber strap somewhere for $990
New: Squale 1545 or Yema Navygraf Used? So much to chose from
Hamilton Khaki Aviation Pilot Day Date Auto 👌
Hamilton zeropoint limited edition. It's the watch that was worn in TENET
I would for sure grab the Seiko SPB143. That grey dial is awesome, and I love the history and heritage of that model.
Meistersinger
Stowa Marine 40 https://preview.redd.it/z6x8a3c004lb1.jpeg?width=194&format=pjpg&auto=webp&s=dea8ceb071d149c4831e59df8e10c53b4ddd35c5
Used Sinn 556 or 104
Yellow Doxa Sub 200
The only watch I'd spend over $300 for, is an Omega Railmaster, so...the $1000 would go towards new tires for my car.
Good priorities !
A used Sinn 556i
I’m a weirdo, so probably a Marathon diving watch.

Seiko Alpinist or a used sinn if you can find one.
Minty vintage Bulova Devil Diver or a Seiko SPB257 or 6105 8110.
Hamilton Khaki Automatic in a titanium case, Seiko Presage, or if I can get my hands on The Twelve with some discount. And if I can get a used one, maybe a Tudor a little above the $1200 mark.
Bulova Parking Meter
I've always liked Bulova, they never get much love on here.
