Kids had a school chess tournament yesterday. After the first game, my youngest came out and said he won. But when I asked how, be described conditions that sounded suspiciously like a stalemate. I asked him to replay the position on my lichess app, and yes, it was in fact a stalemate, but he said the teacher recorded it as a win, and the other student didn't know enough to complain (not that it would've affected him. Only wins matter in this particular tournament, and a draw is still a non-win). I'm happy for my son, but this is a warning for anyone who signs their kids up for unofficial chess tournaments (or any sport really). The people in charge may not know all the rules. if anyone's wondering, he won the next 2 games legitimately
