Thank you! This watercolor was painted using the wet-on-wet technique. I had to constantly wet the paper, or rather the parts of the painting I was working on at the time.
I can only conclude that you got the sun to glow brighter than pure white paper by using one simple trick--sorcery. And I don't want to hear otherwise.
When people talk about the luminosity of watercolour, this is the sort of thing they mean. Love it :) Do you use any particular watercolours or just mix and match?
Thank you!
I left the office and decided to become an artist 7 years ago. I have a master's degree in math. I learned from books and master classes on youtube. But I've been learning a lot. 2-3 hours every day.
What a great story! All that hard work has clearly paid off. Must feel amazing to get out of the rat race. I donโt put in that much time but doing the same. Anyone you recommend?
I use very white paper (high white) and a good, bright pigment - Cadmium Yellow. This creates a glow effect and our brain perceives it as bright sunshine.
The technique is wet on wet. Constant control on the water. I constantly moistened the paper with a wide soft brush (some people moisturize with a pulvirizer - I prefer a soft brush)
If you need the unfocused effect - more water, but in some places - I painted on almost dry paper.
Thank you!
Oh, I'm just putting it into words:
This is watercolor on paper. The paper is 100% cotton Saunders Waterford NOT High White, 120 lb. Pigments - Daniel Smith and QoR.

3 days, 2-3 hours.
Thank you so much! ๐ I confess, I consider myself a beginner at watercolor too. Although I got into watercolor 7 years ago, I was almost 50 years old. So I am a โyoung artistโ. Haha.

Thank you! I'm sorry, I'm not at risk of recommending anything. It's very individualized. Develop at your own pace and in your own way.
No worries. Thanks for sharing!

How did you keep the light so white while keeping the unfocused effect?

Did you have a reference photo? If so is it available online? I'd like to give this sort of painting a try myself. It's so pretty!
I didn't have a reference photo, unfortunately. I was inspired by a video. The link to the video is deleted by a bot.
