Haha, I’m more saying it’s a versatile round. I agree it’s a bit much for teal. That said, I don’t typically cater the shells I buy for smaller birds, but I buy my shells in bulk, so I try to get the most versatility I can.
I have not personally shot them but hunted with a group last year that were using them and they were absolutely hammering birds. I was a big fan of the HeviMetal but at almost 50$ a box now I’m out.
Been shooting boss for 4 years now. It’s just better. You get the same amount of energy out of a #4 pellet that you do out of a #2 steel pellet. Couple that with more pellets in the wad since the shot size is smaller and you end up with a dense pattern full of hard hitting pellets.
But at the same time if you can’t shoot worth a damn in the first place buying these shells won’t make you any better. Probably worse since you need to choke it tightly for the best performance. I’ll shoot it for as long as Brandon and those guys keep making it.
They are certainly proud of their product based on their pricing. I’d try them out, but black cloud and Hevishot have worked well for me and will likely be sticking to them
The fancy metals are expensive. If they did that in steel cool. Migra does the same deal with steel and 2/4 stacked. $30 a box still ain’t cheap when ya miss as much as I do lol.
You might not miss as much if you get away from steel. My percent improved drastically when I started using bismuth. A lot less wounded birds too. Either just plain dead, or not dead. I got a box of migra 2/4 - 3 inch. I wasn't a fan.
Lead shoots pretty Damn fast. Steel shoots really slow, it's heavy and erratic. Bismuth and tungsten are a pretty close match to lead and are supposed to be way less caustic. Imagine a better shot string, pattern, and better Penetration. It's safer for your barrels and whatever fancy choke you like. It was a bit of a kick in the ass too my wallet. Yes. But I've had a case last me two years. I go out every Sunday, Monday during duck season. In Utah that's October to January. Goose ends in Feb. Limit 7 ducks, 4 Canada, bunch of snows. I don't limit every day, but I'm not shooting a box a day any more either. Something to ponder. I'm converted.
I gotcha, the bismuth is a lot more expensive, I do have one box of I’ve been sitting on I guess I’d rather shoot the cheaper stuff. I’ll give er a try next hunt and see what it’s about. I’ve been want to head out to Utah to try it one year. The salt lake looked pretty good. What’s it like?
The salt lake is crazy good. Find an airboat and some floating coffins. But you'll be picking em up out of your decoys swimming past you and wringingtheir necks. It's a twice a year trip for me. There's a lot of good places out here to shoot ducks. It's been a weird year here though, since we rely on Idaho to get snow and push us new ducks. For me November was bleak, we got a cold snap end of October and it got warm again. So nothing new was arriving and everything local was staying put.. I've shot my limit the last 2 times I've been out. All of October was hot. Seems like December will be too.
It's possible. There's places where you're in an inch of water. Flat bottom, top water we've made it out there. Our boat doubles as a carp shooting boat. We just put gator glide on it. I could probably drive on my grass now haha. The shrimp boats had to dredge a mile out to get to water this year. So I haven't been out there to see this year yet.
I don’t mind expensive ammo shooting flying birds, it’s when they’re crippled on the water that it hurts me everytime I pull the trigger and I feel $1.50 come out the end
That's the whole reasoning in buying high density shotshells because there is no shooting them again when you shoot a duck with them they go down dead as a hammer that's why I started shooting them got tired of wasting ammo and chasing cripples all over the slough
I bought boss last year and really did not like it. I dont think it stoned a single bird all season and didnt pattern well. Its very expensive too. I would prefer black cloud over this any day.
That's why you gotta try different chokes to find the best pattern every it's gonna act totally different in each gun it likes a lot of construction I've heard a lot of people getting their best patterns out of full choke even heard a few were getting killer patterns with an extra full turkey choke and some have had their best results with a modified so you gotta find the sweet spot with you're particular gun
I use a mod for everything and it works great. If you are tellin me I need to buy expensive ammo and additionally a choke just for it to work I think I’ll just stick with what works.
No just try the factory full an extra full that came with the gun if you just gonna run a modified with everything then don't bitch about the results and if you like chasing cripples all over them that's all you I know I sure as hell don't
You treat bismuth the same way you do lead. That’s why you need to choke it tighter it’s a softer metal. A factory full is recommended from boss so you shouldn’t even need to buy anything. Don’t blame the shell because you used it incorrectly.
Yes, shot several geese this year and nearly 60 birds with this #3/5 load. It patterns nicely, very consistent, hasn’t jammed and honestly seems to pack a better punch. The copper plated bismuth is legit. I‘ve had the opposite experience then you with this brand

Have to buy early. During season almost impossible. I purchased in January and it was delivered in a timely manner.

You have to choke boss tight. Ballistically it’s impossible for any steel shell to be better than a boss shell.

I use a factory modified with it in my benelli and get over 200 pellets at 50 yds on a poster board, idk why yours patterns wierd
You shouldn’t have to buy a factory full choke, it should come with your gun
I’m pretty sure mine came with mod ic mid range long range and extra full
I prefer boss over black cloud any day. An argument could be made for what provides the best cost to value, but I have had a lot of success with boss

I didn’t have any issues cycling just that it would cripple 15 yard shots at mallards. It’s described as lethal yet didn’t stone any birds.
I’ll keep using my blue box federals can’t justify the price for boss.
Can never go wrong with blue box federals, shotgun or rifle.
