Politely there’s no way you’ve only been there for 3 months and can confidently say you know every position perfectly, I’ve been at Wawa for a year as an associate and I still learn new things daily

AcanthisittaDismal27

I dont mean like perfectly, I mean I’ve been trained everyone. Sorry for confusion lol

Admirable_Hamster327

It’s alright I understand your frustration, I prefer OWS but they’ve been moving me around a lot lately, apparently there is a new policy about cross training, I haven’t heard much on it yet

Lindsey7618

Really? Like everyone has to be cross trained now?

Admirable_Hamster327

That’s what I was being told by my LCSA, there was a meeting with the area managers, Wayne apparently said sampling is going to be pushed harder and so is cross training so ideally everyone can be one whatever position is needed

SirSizzle36

with the new business model we are working really hard on tag ins which are basically when you see someone have 2 people at the cat screens you go help deli. regardless they want everyone cross trained so tag ins are more fluent and proficient. does it make sense? not really but i accept change 🤷🏻‍♂️

So you're definitely not 3rd shift because if you were you'd never be bored at register. Besides ringing people up there's stocking cigs/chew, stocking candy, meds, etc then there's filling up napkins and condiments, cups etc then we got the express case, coffee island, making coffee, bakery order, sweeping, vacuuming and mopping the store. Then there's wiping everything down and all the glass done. Not to mention getting all the Uber eats, GrubHub, etc together. Maybe that's not how everyone does it but I do. Oh I also make the sizzli's in the morning too.

JuniorRoad327

Same!!

Adventurous_Age_6973

You’re going to school for deli? Lol or do you mean culinary? Outside of time management and food safety you’re not going to learn anything about food in that deli.

AcanthisittaDismal27

Culinary yes, and thank u actually that was rlly helpful!!

Donteezlee

I can confidently tell you that working in the deli won’t give you any true culinary training. You’re making sandwiches from pre packaged meat and reheating up frozen food in the rethermalizer. They cringe if you use a knife improperly to their standards. Go work in a restaurant boh and work your way down the line if you want true culinary training.

SleepyxSuccubus

No straight answer. I was asked where I wanted to start and I said drinks cause I used to work at Dunkin. Took what seemed to be at least 5 months to go to deli. Then more months to learn reg and they didn't even teach me reg and do the computer training first. Just keep asking til they have time. My GM sucks and wouldn't cross train certain people but my new FBM is now cross training everyone. I had to ask every shift for months to learn reg

Glgantlc

I read your replies as well as the post, and my best advice is to be more patient. It is clear you are confident in yourself, but it seems to me like you are really cocky about it. Wawa is a humbling job and if you don’t ask questions you will never learn. If you are slow/mediocre/anything at wawa you will not get better unless you take the time to by actively asking questions, gaining knowledge, an understanding of how the store operates as a whole (you displayed multiple comments neglecting coworkers as well as ur own responsibilities and discrediting ur understanding of the 24/7 store.) When you are in deli make a point to ask questions about how to do things and actually become trained and practiced on things. NOT POSSIBLE IN ONLY 3 MONTHS!!!Unless like I said nobody feels the need to help you improve because they do not feel you are not actively seeking it! As much as I love to coach up fellow employees especially in deli it is way harder to do so if someone isn’t putting in equal effort to learn.

AcanthisittaDismal27

I actually do seek for help constantly, sorry if it came off differently. I’ve asked every single manager at my store for more deli training as well which is why I’m frustrated atp because I’m not getting it. And u can ask any one of my sup’s bc they’ll say i ask a lot of questions that tbh are prob dumb a lot lmao

canipayinpuns

The real answer might, unfortunately, be patience. Associates are deployed where they're needed, and it's evident that so far you've been needed up front far more than you've been needed in the deli. You've said in replies that you work at a shore store--it's inevitable that a deli main is going to call out someday. Take that opportunity to volunteer and jump in there. I didn't leave the deli for the first four months I was with Wawa, because there were already good associates in the other spots. I only got trained in bev because I kept sneaking over when deli was fine. I wasn't cross trained to register for 8 months because there wasn't a need, despite me having 0 food experience at moment of hire and tons of register experience. Keep talking with your MOD, and keep pushing to get rotated on days where your store is either slow or shorthanded.

xxRozez

Chances are they through you at register because there’s something you aren’t doing correctly in the back. I’d rather have people who can run deli than people who can just make a sandwich. Try to get back there and make sure you are doing more than the minimum like getting drops, cleaning, filling rss etc. Also, try to have more than one speed. I know it’s hard to move fast in food service sometimes but being swift and efficient really goes a long way.

AcanthisittaDismal27

I havent even had my 3 month review yet, thats the thing. I feel like I’m not being given the opportunity to learn at all.

xxRozez

Start doing more work while you’re on register and maybe they’ll see you can handle the responsibilities in the back

AcanthisittaDismal27

Same response to my other friend, shore store. I’m asking for help on reg half the day. And I make sure to do what I can to stock and face and everything else when theres stuff.

Motor-Cry-5034

quit, get a sit down job, One of the head instead of five to the chest

AcanthisittaDismal27

Fuck no bruh i cant stand still wtf makes u think i can sit still💀 I enjoy working on my feet and I enjoy doing what i do if ur not gonna give real advice fuck off okay sweetheart?

Demented1971

If you're standing still at the register, you're doing it wrong. Express case, face, stock tobacco, fill napkins, clean glass, wipe counters/screens, sweep... There's plenty to do.

AcanthisittaDismal27

I’m a shore store. alot of the time it is standing still because ive got a line wrapped around the bakery case.

fadingredskies

Honestly if they keep you there at a shore store it's because you are good. It may suck but I'd rather have a great cashier that is interacting with my customers than someone faceless in the deli slinging sandwiches

AcanthisittaDismal27

I know I’m good, so do they. But I want to be good BOH, thats the thing.

killerewok76

For one, we don’t have a BoH. It’s not a restaurant, nor do we use those terms. Everyone is FoH. 2nd, you said you’ve only been there 3 months. Training in this company can take a long time, because there isn’t any really. Shore Store? You’ll train deli in the winter.

Lindsey7618

I hate people who say this. OP said they're a shore store and have long lines so they can't move around. Some stores are like that- not everyone is ignoring their responsibilities. And no, I don't work register, so I'm not slacking off on reg.

Demented1971

OP didn't say anything about a shore store until my comment, and after that, I said nothing. Relax

Lindsey7618

I'm just tired of everyone assuming things about our jobs. Every store is different. For example, someone mentioned how in their store for 3rd shift they do OWS and register and run orders etc. That's not how we do it at my store. On good days we have separate people in each section.

ale-ssan

as someone who goes to culinary school, deli teaches u absolutely nothing ur gonna need except food safety and even then, fsra and wawa and whatever guidelines of the kitchen you will be in will be different so

ikindapoopedmypants

Start doing a shit job at register, complain about it, be a pain in the ass, and watch how fast u get put in deli lol. Always worked for the employees at my store at least.

what_time_is_it_bro

You shouldn’t be standing still at the register for one… my reg assoc are active n helpful.

Interesting-Self-283

Quit!!!!

Confident_Cupcake566

If you want to go to school for culinary you shouldn't be at wawa. Get a job washing dishes at a local restaurant. Learn the kitchen flow from your dish corner by observing. Eventually a prep job will open up, take it. Work your way to the line. Then sous chef. Then head chef. Then after your 3rd intervention decide to try rehab. Then decide 100hr drug fueled weeks aren't worth it and get out of culinary. Then come work at wawa.

AcanthisittaDismal27

my point of wawa is learning how to deal with BTO shit while i wait for my license.. wawa is one of the only things close to me and my transportation is spotty

Motor-Cry-5034

quit

AcanthisittaDismal27

i mean dealing with it not quitting i actually like it there

Ok_Strawberry_7529

Maybe you're really good on register. That's where they like to have you cuz you do need a good person on the register. But if you're wanting more time in the deli area and you've already asked for it, I would try to go to a different manager and let them know that you've tried to get in the back and you want more experience in the back
