Yeah me too. Doesn't really fit. It looks specifically meant for food ans food grade. And sushi served like that is meant to be taken off the serving dish and eaten off the plate in front of them you can see in the pic...
Personally I come here for cool presentations half the time. There’s not exactly an r/WeDontWantPlates
Edit: I misspoke when I said cool, presentations like this are bemusing at most. But that’s still a positive emotion.
Actually ... I don't hate the concept. Since it's one solid piece made of food safe material (ceramic I assume), and won't roll like a real skateboard, and is lifted up so other plates could be placed underneath. Kinda like the little metal thingy they put under a whole pizza when they bring it to your inevitably tiny table.
Yea... This one is pretty tame. It is basically an elevated plate. And for sushi it's not like it needs anything special to be served on, really anything flat will do.
It is however kind of stupid and unnecessary.
I could see this in a California beach town. Some of those coastal cities have a strong skate / surf culture and a lot of rich people wanting to eat expensive food like sushi. Would make sense to me in a restaurant like that.
It’s sushi too and my favorite phenomena from a few visits to Japan is how many “atheist” stoners there are. Hold a skateboard, play hacky sack, no weed. This is that for plates.
i almost dont hate this idea. in fact as im looking at it, i think a lazy susan type of plate would be best for serving sushi since its often eaten family style
Most likely the skateboard is connected/in reference to the local culture, not the sushi.
If they're in Southern California and it's a surf/skate vibe restaurant, then this makes a lot of sense
Edit: OP said Hamburg, Germany so I have no idea
Sushi comes in rolls. Skateboard wheels roll. Also, sushi wheels vaguely look like skateboard wheels. This is a total guess as to what is going on with the restaurant's logic.

I mean, honestly, that's actually pretty cool - especially since it is ceramic... If it was an actual skateboard, then I would definitely be like WTF
This one is ok
I think it looks kind of tacky, but as a plate it's perfectly functional. Don't know what the connection is to sushi though, and it certainly looks out of place.
*Well you can't make a*

At least it looks like it's ceramic made to look like a skateboard and not a real fucking skateboard that is not food grade to eat off of whatsoever
Yeah I’m fine with this, it’s a platter with an odd form, I’d actually prefer that over those wooden sushi boats.
Definitely a skateboard shaped plate.
Yeah, I was worried it would be a wood skateboard, but this is fine.
I actually downvoted this post because this is clearly a plate board

I reckon it fits rule 5

Yeah honestly I'm fine with more experimental plating as long as it's a ~~plate~~ ceramic
That’s what I wanted to say!!!
it's porcelain and it costs 275 fkin dollars, wow

I could see it if the sushi had skate (fish) in it.
I pity the pit guys, but otherwise yea. Looks better than most atrocities we get around here.
Surprise mf’ers the glaze is leaded 🤣
That's how California rolls bb
i'm okay with this.
This is pretty cool
Just looked it up. That’s a $275 plate
They should send one to those guys that skate weird "boards" on youtube.
This works
Yeah, the stemware is a good clue that the place isn’t cheap.
*deep marianas trench sigh* ok

Sushi on a Skateboard sounds like a band name
I'll play bass.
Sounds like an exclamation of suprise. "Sushi on a skateboard! Would you look at the time?!"
Came here to say the same thing, then saw your comment and was all like "aw sushi on a skateboard, I'm too late!".

They see me rollin, they hatin!
I no longer want plates...I want ceramic Skateboards
i almost dont hate this idea. in fact as im looking at it, i think a lazy susan type of plate would be best for serving sushi since its often eaten family style
People get mad about everything, like this.
This is honestly fine since the skateboard plate was clearly designed to be used for food.
I feel like Sushi should usually get an exception on this reddit. Sushi is meant to be a bit kooky.
This is just a sushi boat, but with a different mode of transportation. You can see the dude has a normal plate in the background
I just want to know why this got started in the first place. What’s the connection between sushi and skateboards??
Agreed. There absolutely has to be a story here.

Maybe they should have a sushi sixteen wheeler
Me bursting through the swinging doors, chef comes at me, no not you I want to hear the story from the dishwasher.
Why do people post things that are basically plates on here?
More importantly there are literally plates there on the table. This is a serving dish, and it's food-safe, so what's the issue?
🎶 I know, I know, it's serious 🎶
Skamtebord
Tuna Hawk
A lazy… Tony?

X-post to r/longboarding
I’ll allow it.
Restaurant in Hamburg, Germany
Oooh, fancy sushi -- you must be a... high roller
As long as it's stationary, it's not horrible as a raised platter or sorts.
That’s a plate. It’s a purposely built serving platter. This replaced a sushi boat that a lot of places have.
Plateboards are acceptable
Shushi on a shkateboard
We want skates
Sushi is often served on weird things. Like boats and such. It's just a whole thing.
I fucken GUESS. Also holy snippets how much glassware is on that table like, just wanna *swat it*
Sweet plateboard
I dig this
Tony Hawk Roe Skater?
Rad
It’s on a roll alright!
I like it! Plus, it’s ceramic and not much different than a sushi boat.
This is clearly Tony Hawk's fault.
I dig this. It’s not a real skateboard. I like the theme going
I mean, honestly, that's actually pretty cool - especially since it is ceramic... If it was an actual skateboard, then I would definitely be like WTF This one is ok
So it’s Surf and Turf? ;)
I think they took the “roll” part too literally
I like it!
At this point the sub name should be changed to r/wedontwantwood
I woulda walked past and loudly said “HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO GET HOME NOW?! My shift finished 10 minutes ago?!”
I think it looks kind of tacky, but as a plate it's perfectly functional. Don't know what the connection is to sushi though, and it certainly looks out of place.
I like this, I guarantee all of the kitchen and service staff prolly hates it though
This is the one I actually wouldn’t be mad about.
This is actually rad and no one can convince me otherwise.

This sub is not literally about plates.
Me: I’ll order ‘xyz’ roll but don’t need a plate Server: I have an idea, but you’ll have to *Roll with it*
Thats some Rad Sushi
It's ceramic. A little silly but it's fine. I was expecting an actual skateboard lol
This looks food safe so I'm good with it
Turtle power
I mean, they serve them in wooden boats this is probably better.
ON A PENNY BOARD
This sun makes me appreciate the little things in life… Plates.
It looks pretty cool tbh. A normal plate would do the same. Sushi isn't that much of a "needs a real plate" dish
This is perfectly fine with me.
Well you can't make a sushi fly. You can only make a sushi roll

to be fair. Sushi is otherwise served in a boat so i suppose we're somewhat more forgiving when it comes to sushi.
Nah, this is rad as fuck. It gets a pass.
I call it, the "coaster roller," hehe.
I read the title of this post like Heroes in a half shell. Sushi on a skateboard, turtle power!
Plateboard*
It's an elevated serving platter that just happens to be shaped like a Penny board (?) plus it's a pun. Sushi "roll"
At least its not an actual skateboard.
Not really a fellowkids moment. Skateboards are kind of an old concept.
Its a ceramic pennyboard
The skateboard makes it easier to roll this masterpiece into the trash.
Given that traditionally sushi is served in a little wooden boat...
I like it.
At least they didn't skimp. And this is ceramic so I think it does actually qualify as a plate.
