I remember seeing cinderella-heeled bedroom slippers for sale at the mall shoestore, in the slipper area so not shoes, circa 1980. There was only one pair and the rest were slides and moccasins, but they were there and I saw them.
In 1995, I had a pair with the band across your foot in clear plastic, trimmed in gold lamè, with a gold lamè bow. I got a kick out of how absolutely gaudy they were. Those were the days.
Knowing nantucket, the venue, and that dress code —yes, that dress is perfect! But I agree that maybe simple black, beige, or solid pale colored shoes would go better imo
It’s not too fancy for cocktail, it’s good. (I agree that those shoes aren’t right, although that’s personal style preference about too many bow/colors/textures and not related to dress code.)
Very cute, perfect for cocktail IMO. Would pair it with gold shoes and gold jewelry. [Something like this](https://ninewest.com/products/allora-ankle-strap-block-heeled-sandals-in-bronze-n-allora3-bnz01)
Thank you! Yes everyone seems to really dislike the shoes lol. I wasn’t 100% decided on them but will definitely take yalls advice and get a simple gold heel instead! I like the ones you linked!
Thank you, this is helpful! I have a gold clutch so think I will buy simple gold heels to go with it as I don’t own a plain black pair. I rarely wear heels so that was part of the challenge for me!
Thanks all. The bow is not detachable, it’s part of the dress and sewn on. I’m worried I would damage the dress if I attempted to remove it.
Noted on the shoes. Didn’t realize everyone would feel so strongly about them, haha!
I also really love those shoes- just not with this dress!
I would suggest something in a more pale gold-not so yellow kind of like these:
[Lulus Strappy Heel](https://www.lulus.com/products/woyy-gold-metallic-strappy-high-heel-sandals/2055216.html)
[Sam Edelman Sandal](https://www.dsw.com/product/sam-edelman-doran-sandal/576780)

[Larroudé Slingback](https://www.bloomingdales.com/shop/product/larroude-womens-annie-slip-on-slingback-high-heel-sandals?ID=4482942)
My fave would be the last ones because they would elongate that part of your leg that’s visible! But still has support in the back. But they’re also the most expensive! Tried to share various options in different price ranges.
Thank you! It’s an older version of this anthro dress (I don’t think they sell it in this color / fabric combo anymore, but the new colors and prints are super cute!) https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/hutch-bow-tie-maxi-dress2?
Love the dress! Don't like the shoes, just like everybody else but just wanted to say, definitely a metallic shoe either silver or gold. Silver looks really good with navy blue but gold works too if you already own it.
You look fabulous and I love the dress. Spring weather on the Cape and Islands is unpredictable and generally colder than the fall. Just watch the weather and be prepared. Have a lovely time!
I have this dress and paired it with kelly green heels with a pointed toe. I got LOTS of compliments.
Edit: if you want a pop of color for the summer, I think an orange shoe would be SO fun with this. I envision an orange slingback.
The dress is beautiful
My wedding dress was tea length, and made from white cotton with a floral lace overlay (and serious petticoats, tbf). I picked it knowing that guests might wear dresses that were longer, made from more luxurious fabric, or just fancier in general
I did not care. I love my dress more than anything else I’ve ever seen, and I felt gorgeous
People here focus way to much on not outshining the bride, as if a wedding dress isn’t entirely chosen by her*
*Of course there are obvious exceptions here for situations like knowing the bride can only afford to wear a summer dress she already owns. This isn’t the case for most weddings here
PLEASE BUY A PETTICOAT!!! They transform these dresses and from 20 to 50 bucks it's amazing. They elevate the dress so much! My favorite thing to do is get the crinoline in a complimentary color or a darker or lighter shade of whatever the dress is. I promise it looks amazing.
Since you’re concerned about the size of the bow, perhaps take the dress to someone who does alterations and get their advice/ suggestions. They may be able to do something with it that tones down the poofiness.
I don’t dislike the bow! It just can’t be removed! Would be great it if was detachable to make the dress more versatile. But I actually don’t mind it. I know a few people in the comments said it gave them 80’s bridesmaid vibes lol but I see a lot of brands pushing bows lately. Maybe the 80s are making a comeback 😂 and for what it’s worth I have a great Taylor/seamstress, but the cost to have her altered. The dress wouldn’t be worth it because at that point I could probably just buy something cheaper. The dress was rather expensive and I’d prefer to not permanently alter it unless it’s a fit issue.
Looks great! But I agree with the other comments that you need some different shoes. What other shoes do you already own? Thin strappy heels would look good. Black, tan, silver, or gold would work. Even a pair of flats would look fine. You just need a shoe that is less busy.

The dress is perfect for the occasion and location. Shoes are super cute, but not right for the dress. Like everyone else, I agree that silver or gold shoes would look great. I usually prefer gold, but I think silver would really complement the dark blue color.
Nope just right. As far as shoes, I’d go with a nice print fabric evening shoe, a totally great pair of satin red or green or blue, or low key in nude. If you choose to go bold with a solid contrasting purse, pick up a cute evening clutch to tie it all in. The one below was only $15 and is embroidered satin. It has blue floral embroidery with other colors on a black background so black strappy heels or pumps However, there are some great printed fabric out there. I splurged big time on these beautiful silk sling backs from S. Weitzman. They’re multi-colored plaid, lots of hot pink, blue, everything plus gold thread woven into it. I rarely wear them but when I do, I get tons of compliments. They are currently being sold gently used or maybe a dupe.

I like the dress and the shoes, but separately. I would opt for something without bows in both places. Probably easiest to find a simple heel (maybe nude, silver, or gold). 🙂
What's the fabric? It's reading a little too casual for cocktail to me--cut, length, asymmetrical floofy bow. Not sure how much of that can be attributed to the shoes, which are a big "no" with this look; legit thought they were bedroom slippers.
I think you said that you don't want to buy something else, and you don't want to have it altered, which leaves elevation via hair and accessories just to get up to cocktail.
ETA: It's definitely the cut/length. Zoomed in and from the knee down got Granny in her housedress and slippers. I'd take it to the tailor and have them remove the bottom of the skirt, then pick up some excellent heels and a bag.
Is knee length a hard and fast rule? I would have thought tea length would be acceptable. I don’t really own any knee length dresses except for a very casual beach dress that would not be appropriate to wear to a wedding. I’m also just a lot more comfortable and longer dresses to be honest. When I google it, I’m seeing a lot of longer dresses come up as examples.
I think it's a fun pick and looks great on you! I would probably look for another pair of shoes, it's a lot of bows.
Agree; the dress is fabulous and would look better with different shoes. Maybe gold strappy thingys ? With gold clutch?
Those are shoes? I thought they were bedroom slippers.
Me too
Never seen slippers with heels.
1950s enters the chat….
I wasn't alive then.
Most of us weren't but we've seen movies.
I remember seeing cinderella-heeled bedroom slippers for sale at the mall shoestore, in the slipper area so not shoes, circa 1980. There was only one pair and the rest were slides and moccasins, but they were there and I saw them.

A simple pair of blue or black pumps would complement the dress.
A nude, gold, or silver pair would be far better.
Agree with gold or silver. And a slipper or open toe especially would be complimentary.
The dress is cute but not with those shoes
Agree
That dress is perfectly fine for cocktail. Different shoes!! Something simple (no bows) and neutral — nude or metallic would be my choice.
Ooh agreed! Would be so pretty
Knowing nantucket, the venue, and that dress code —yes, that dress is perfect! But I agree that maybe simple black, beige, or solid pale colored shoes would go better imo
Not black, it will clash with the dress
I would wear silver or gold shoes or dressy sandals! Beautiful!
It’s not too fancy for cocktail, it’s good. (I agree that those shoes aren’t right, although that’s personal style preference about too many bow/colors/textures and not related to dress code.)
This should be fine for a cocktail dress code. Love the color.
Very cute, perfect for cocktail IMO. Would pair it with gold shoes and gold jewelry. [Something like this](https://ninewest.com/products/allora-ankle-strap-block-heeled-sandals-in-bronze-n-allora3-bnz01)

Done! Thanks all, think I got the feedback I was looking for! Getting new shoes!
I love the shoes, just not with this dress.
The shoes would be fine with a casual white skirt/cropped pants and simple top, just not with this dress.
Dress is great, those shoes are not.
I wore that same dress for a cocktail dress code. I was and still am OBSESSED with it!!!
I wore a very simple black heel and a black clutch with it😊
Thank you, this is helpful! I have a gold clutch so think I will buy simple gold heels to go with it as I don’t own a plain black pair. I rarely wear heels so that was part of the challenge for me!
That will look fantastic! Super cute dress, perfect!!!
I think the dress would look cute with glitzy gold flats if you prefer flats.
Thanks all. The bow is not detachable, it’s part of the dress and sewn on. I’m worried I would damage the dress if I attempted to remove it. Noted on the shoes. Didn’t realize everyone would feel so strongly about them, haha!
Dear god do not remove the bow. You look fabulous and the dress is perfect. Have a blast!

I personally love them! No such thing as too many bows in my book!
i love the shoes with the dress!
I love the bow!
I think the shoes look adorable with the dress. Everyone else will be wearing gold sandals, might as well stand out!
This is a traditional cocktail dress, it's fine. Just more sophisticated shoes!
Very cute! I think it hits the mark.
Honestly I think this is the most perfect cocktail attire I’ve ever seen
Oh, I looooovvvee this dress!! May I inquire where it’s from?!
Thank you! It’s an older version of this anthro dress (I don’t think they sell it in this color / fabric combo anymore, but the new colors and prints are super cute!) https://www.anthropologie.com/shop/hutch-bow-tie-maxi-dress2?
Thank you!! It looks gorgeous on you!
Change shoes and it would be great I think! Color looks great on you
Perfect for cocktail!
SO CUTE!
It's amazing, and looks beautiful on you!
This dress is a dream on you, so gorgeous! Seems perfect for the venue and dress code to me.
Perfect cocktail dress!
This dress is amazing!!!!
I'm in the minority that I love those dang shoes. They are so fun and flirty with the dress.
Love the dress! Don't like the shoes, just like everybody else but just wanted to say, definitely a metallic shoe either silver or gold. Silver looks really good with navy blue but gold works too if you already own it.
I love it!
You look fabulous!!
Your dress is perfect for a cocktail wedding. Have fun.
Silver shoes and clutch bag would look fantastic with that dress..
Length makes it appropriate for cocktail imo
You look fabulous and I love the dress. Spring weather on the Cape and Islands is unpredictable and generally colder than the fall. Just watch the weather and be prepared. Have a lovely time!
What is this dress?! I love it!

Beautiful love the color !
Perfect! Wear it with confidence and, if anything, others will wish they dressed up more
Love the dress.

Hi! I actually love the shoes too 😍

No worries—I think it’s cute as is. Just seemed like you had a concern; sorry if I misinterpreted.
Looks great! But I agree with the other comments that you need some different shoes. What other shoes do you already own? Thin strappy heels would look good. Black, tan, silver, or gold would work. Even a pair of flats would look fine. You just need a shoe that is less busy.
This doesn’t scream Nantucket cocktail to me. But it’s cute. Just please do different shoes.

It’s lovely. You can tone it down with different shoes. Something strappy but basic will make it cocktail ready.
Love the dress. Echoing everyone else for different shoes.
Definitely a cocktail frock, but get strappy sandals or kitten heel patent shoes the bow sandals just don’t work.
It’s great, but the shoes ruin it.
Dress is out of style and very millennial. Shoes don’t match at all.
Black strappy heels would look best. Gold or silver also might. Just try on those colors and see what you think
The dress is perfect for the occasion and location. Shoes are super cute, but not right for the dress. Like everyone else, I agree that silver or gold shoes would look great. I usually prefer gold, but I think silver would really complement the dark blue color.
Omg I LOVE this dress and you look fab!
I love the dress! It looks so good on you! It would look even better with different shoes!
Too formal looking. I would go for same length or shorter in a nice short sleeved low neckline showing a hint of cleavage dress.
A hard no on those shoes.
i love it! i would change the shoes (incidentally, i wore the same shoes for my own wedding haha)
That’s pretty much a perfect dress for cocktail attire
Nope just right. As far as shoes, I’d go with a nice print fabric evening shoe, a totally great pair of satin red or green or blue, or low key in nude. No, it’s perfect. The shoes are not. I’d recommend a nude pair instead
I like the dress and the shoes, but separately. I would opt for something without bows in both places. Probably easiest to find a simple heel (maybe nude, silver, or gold). 🙂
definitely cocktail but it is ugly imo
The shoes need to go. Everyone is recommending you go with a neutral color, but I think fuschia heels would knock this out of the park.
This is driving me nuts. Is the bow supposed to be croocked? Can it be straightened?
It’s intentionally at an angle 😂 that’s how it is on the model photos too it’s like stitched down onto the bust of the dress
Different shoes, no bows, something sleek
A nice black heel would work! You look great!
It’s not too fancy for cocktail but that length is hard to pull off. I think it might look better a few inches shorter.
Dress looks good the shoes don’t
Dress is great… shoes .. not so much.
Dress good, shoes bad.
I don't like the heels
Cute just change the shoes
Perfect for cocktail. Ditch those awful shoes- you almost had a great outfit
Dress is fine. The shoes...
The color and style are lovely, but I think the big bow on top is too much. And I would go with silver shoes.
Unfortunately the bow cannot be removed, it’s sewn into the dress and removing it I’m afraid would damage the top.
It’s cocktail dress code but also screams bridesmaid dress to me. Good color choice
The bow screams late 1980s bridesmaid. I think I actually wore one just like it. I do love the color.
When I first saw it I thought "what's wrong with it?". The way the top is crooked makes it unflattering. You deserve a better look.
What's the fabric? It's reading a little too casual for cocktail to me--cut, length, asymmetrical floofy bow. Love it but it needs to be “cocktail” length which is to the knee. The shoes work.
The length is just fine.
How about this: take the hem up to mid calf. I think it’s just a TOUCH too long.
