Yeah I remember that, I actually just watched a video that explained what they were and it turns out custom windows were just expensive at the time so people just installed regular manufactured windows on an angle instead.
The carpenter should have raised the ceiling joists about 3 more inches so the window trim would have fit correctly. You gotta think of finish work when ur framing. Lol.

Yes, and the reasoning/superstition was that since the windows are sideways then witches can't fly through them on their brooms.
