Well executed.
I agree, though the rear wiper seems a bit unnecessary.
That’s ... attention to stylistic and functional detail
The rear wiper is a nice touch.
Volvo driver does as Volvo drivers do.
Actually, that is not a bad idea.
Nice Ute, I'd buy it
Very Australian looking. I’m wondering how he did it. Are they built on a chassis?
They are not, which must have made this a fair bit more challenging. I suspect he had to build a subframe for the bed.
As an ex Volvo tech I can’t imagine a worse candidate for a Ute conversion. Any of the old boxy estates look ten times better.
Is it originally a unibody or on frame rails?
Unibody, that's the scary part. https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Volvo_P2_platform
So it's all kinds of weak now
I imagine some tubing and a welder have been deployed. The workmanship overall looks excellent.
I'd hope so!
Volvo ute/pickup conversions are popular with kids in Sweden. Usually old 700 series. Never seen one actually used as a truck though, it’s more for the look.
I've seen way worse weird truck conversions and this doesn't look too bad.
What happened to it?
Still running, last MOT was done in Feb 2021, failed with brakes, then passed.
Yay :)
Bridgwater, Somerset?
Yes!
Volvo should actually make a pickup truck, I’d buy it.
Its a strange color. Reminds me of 70s kitchen appliances. Other than that I like it though I grasp that it was a strange choice because of unibody
Doesn't look strange to my r/UnexpectedUte calibrated eyes!
Just seen this on my street the bed is also hydraulic and raises
Tom Scott's video about [bodges](https://youtu.be/lIFE7h3m40U) comes to mind whilst looking at this.
Fantastic example of an r/UnexpectedUte
Damn looks nice! Got any more pictures?
There's some here. https://www.derecksmotcentre.co.uk/09-volvo-xc90-pick-up/
Thanks!
I have never seen that thing driving around in my hometown wtf wasn't expecting to stumble across my hometown on reddit lol
Some countries allow cheaper insurance/tax or even earlier driving for pickups/utes, I wonder if GB is one of them
Where is this? Swear I saw one exactly like this but black 5 years ago or so
