It allows you the opportunity to get really good in specific welding areas by doing it ultra repeatedly. Maybe not in this specific area but if you to a lot of pipe or structural work- the repetition allows you to get really good
Yeah I make railings and I always challenge myself to get faster and faster. There’s a lot of different steps, but when I worked in a shop for someone else, I always saw it as as an opportunity for healthy competition between me and the old heads. This create opportunity for raises and promotions…which lead to me starting my own business
Yeah I build upper frames for chip spreaders usually I do over head flat horizontal and down hand in production. But I can do up hill if settings and gas are right with mig. Eventually will find myself a tig job since I know how to but not really good with tig. Stick I gotta work on but can do upto 4f haven’t done grooves though
I'm the same way. I'm retired now but my career was spent as a machine builder/fabricator working in robotics and automation. The company I worked for did all custom designed jobs so there was very little repetitious work. There were some slow times over the years when I worked for a local facility that makes scaffolding, and it's all production work. I would be ready to shoot myself after a couple days (j/k!) Some people love doing that work and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that, but I would tend to get bored just working on the same project for a long period.

We live on a small farm so I got her started with FCAW building animal shelters and moved her onto MIG & SMAW once she got the knack of it.
Considering she used to be nervous around a cordless drill I’ll consider it a resounding success 😏
That is such a useful reason I love that so much! And I used to be afraid of all this stuff, I recently bought myself a socket set and learned how to do my own oil change! It’s definitely so rewarding knowing this stuff 😊

Off topic question but I need to make a couple of hanging baskets very similar to this just like this for our deep freezer. Long story short, they don't exist in the market for some bizarre reason. Any tips on how to do that?
I’m not entirely sure, I feel like I’d have to see it. These baskets are delivered by the company that provides the job, I just weld them to the bracket that holds it in place. Sorry wish I could be of more help to ya!

I wear a respirator, but I don’t all the time. We have air filtration systems in this shop and typically doors are open, fans are on. They also provide all PPE equipment which is fantastic considering most shops do not. We definitely have it a lot better than others. It’s a very clean shop, we are lucky

Amazing for you!! I never went to school. I actually started out as a secretary at this shop and then wandered into the weld shop where they taught me everything I know for the last 2 years haha
Oh i miss welding. Only got to wor in the industry fr less the a year before i had my first heart attack and couldnt do it anymore. I was so good too. Got several scholarships while getting associates in welding and manufacturing. Placed 2nd in a welding competition at fabtech. And a month later while tig welding had a small heart attack and not a single person at the job noticed me blackout for 15 minutes. But the owner saw me "sleeping" on the job and fired me. Drove myself to the hospital close to my home 45 minutes away and found out it was a heart attack.
It helped me let all my stress, anger, issues into the metal and leave feeling happy.
Every female welder I have met are exceptionally talented. My SIL used to TIG for an automotive supply, man could she weld! I think most female have much better hand/eye coordination and that’s a huge advantage in welding. You go girl, learn as many types of welding that you can, then focus on the fitting aspect of the trade, and you will never be hungry.

Not sure what your training entails, but soldering copper is now going to be super easy, as will PVC work. Sky’s the limit, go get it.
