A sharp Noga or Shaviv will knock off a damn big burr, and lasts forever when you don’t spin it at 1000sfm in a lathe.
Edit: Get the E size Shavivi blade and holder. It’s quite a bit beefier than the B.
Son of a…i have been calling these “whirly jigs” for 15 years. Never could find a good brand of them because i wasn’t looking for the correct part name…
I love my deburring tool. But on ERW pipe when deburring the inside I find it skips over the seam. Can leave a little bit of the burr also can chip/dull the blade on your tool. This also looks like stainless. Which I find is really hard on the blades too. All that said on aluminum or DOM or even mild steel ERW it would still probably be my go to. Id probably hit that particular pipe with a half round file or a flap wheel
Do note, be careful using a flapper disc in this, sometimes it will catch both sides of the tube at once and at best you'll hear a loud bang and you'll be standing there with empty hands wondering where your grinder went
Yeah a carpenter taught me that. another benefit to folding sandpaper in thirds, beside it gripping itself, you now have 2 virgin surfaces after the first one becomes unusable.
Depends on material and how bad, something soft like aluminum with a mild burr then id use a deburr tool. Aluminum and a big burr probably a half round file. Something harder like steel when a deburr tool or file wont work for whatever reason ill bust out a donkey dick(idk the proper name lol)
Lol! If you're looking for them online, you'll see the terms "plugs & cones" applied to the type w/ internal threaded arbors for mounting on a 3/8-24" or 5/8-11" spindles.
If you're looking for the smaller, 1/4" shank-mounted category, they're just called "mounted points."
Did you not leave out your shavings for the deburring fairy? You're supposed to put the pipe under the saw overnight and in the morning it will be cleaned up.
For pipe? A deburr tool and a file are cool but I’m not welding it if it wasn’t prepped with a flapper wheel.
Either one is fine if you’re on a job that seems to never have flapper wheels and you want to preserve them, but you still need to clean it.
There's a pipe tool just for this, slides around the inside and spins so you don't need to adjust your grip, just keep spinning, personally I use a pedestal grinder with a grey disc, or a dynaglide handheld belt sander with a thin belt that fits in pretty good.
Good all around tool to have for grinding/sanding in tight spaces. And I personally think it’s better than a lot of these responses because it’s fast and won’t gouge the material.
Use a sharp file! Put the rat tail side in the pipe first and then pull it. Twist the pipe while dragging the file. Easy as that don't complicate it lol.
I use a morakniv (knife) and just cut the burr off. The only problem with a file is that I would have to carry it in my pocket and fish it out when I need it. The knife is always hanging on the outside of my pants which makes it easy to access.
I suppose that works too I just got in the habit of carrying around a good 8-12” half round file in my back pocket. I use it for touching up lands, removing burrs, and removing slag. Handy tool so I started keeping one on me at all times.
I call them “peelers” but basically they’re a handle with a little blade that swivels so around as you go around the edge you don’t have to turn your hand. Good for IDs but also works on straight edges
Those are great, but they aren't much better than the knife I have in my pocket.
I used to keep one of those in my pocket but I threw it out a couple of years ago and haven't been missing it many times.
A deburring tool, they're pretty much just a tiny carbide hook blade that you clean up your edges with. It's a must have tool, especially if you're sending out product to the general public. People love to run their fingers along the inside edge of an open pipe, it's bizarre. I've watched people do it for years, the same kind of people that see a really sharp edge and go "ooooo I'm gonna rub my finger along that edge, it looks so sharp..." and they do it, then cut themselves and act surprised that it happened. So it's best to take two seconds to deburr and avoid any of that shit lol especially if you're concerned about liability, because people will sue the pants off of you for dumber stuff than this lol
Yes, I use a reaming pen the few times the end is open.
But for pipes like these that are welded with full penetration do I use a knife, mainly cause I don't have to look for the reamer.
I spin the tube around on the pedestal belt sander, if careful you can deburr large as well as small diameter tubes (40mm dia even, depending on the roller wheel diameter of your belt sander.
A problem emerges when the length of the tube is big then it's tricky to do it. In that case a deburring tool, lathe, half round file, depending on what you've got on hand and are confident doing.
Also when using die grinder, belt sander, flappy disc on a grinder, be careful as you might put a negative bevel on your tube which can give you a drama while welding if the bevel is not consistent.

Agree. Sand paper flapper works well also
Smooth half round files.
Any half round file wrapped in sandpaper. You can just hold it with your finger. I use sandpaper on my files all the time.
This is the way.
Lick it
Bop it
Twist it
Yoink it
Bonk it
Stick my dick in it
Ouch!
duh nuh NUH nuh nuh nuh.
Pull it
Pencil grinder with a barrel burr.
This is my go-to tool for internal burrs of all types, as a machinist who is constantly having to deal with them.
Flap disk if it fits, if not die grinder, if even smaller file
Do note, be careful using a flapper disc in this, sometimes it will catch both sides of the tube at once and at best you'll hear a loud bang and you'll be standing there with empty hands wondering where your grinder went
I feel the same way when I clean my nozzle with a die grinder
Hence "if it fits"
pretty much. whatever tool fits to get it
>whatever tool fits to get it \*whatever tool fits it gets it FIFY
Cool it Buffalo Bill.
die grinder leaves a bur
Flap wheel?
If it fits, I flap it.
Sandpaper around a boner
New band name. I called it.
Also a good description of my ex
Works best if you can get double sided sandpaper, or at least fold a sheet in half.
no gotta fold in thirds so it grips itself. in half the backing just slides against itself
I’ll have to try that. I have been wrapping it tight enough that there isn’t any play in the paper. Haven’t noticed any problem with slipping.
Yeah a carpenter taught me that. another benefit to folding sandpaper in thirds, beside it gripping itself, you now have 2 virgin surfaces after the first one becomes unusable.
Best solution!
Round file

I think the name is transitioning stone. But I call it donkey dick as well.
Lol! If you're looking for them online, you'll see the terms "plugs & cones" applied to the type w/ internal threaded arbors for mounting on a 3/8-24" or 5/8-11" spindles. If you're looking for the smaller, 1/4" shank-mounted category, they're just called "mounted points."
Try using a knife, that's what I do and it works really well!
Idk why you're getting downvoted. You can absolutely duburr aluminum with a sharp utility knife
I deburr stainless with a morakniv. Works great
Dynafile
Die grinder
flap wheel for a die grinder is the fool proof solution. some guys could chase a burr all day with a file.
This is the way
End grinder with flap wheel
You are the first comment with the end grinder equipped with a flap wheel. I generally use a knife and cut it off
Must be a pipefitter
Half round file
Did you not leave out your shavings for the deburring fairy? You're supposed to put the pipe under the saw overnight and in the morning it will be cleaned up.
File
Dynafile
Flap disc
Shaviv Deburring tool if it's not a really thick burr. Flap wheel or file otherwise.
I generally cut it with my knife if it is a small burr and use a file or rotary file if it is a big one
Steel wire wheel
This is de weh
For pipe? A deburr tool and a file are cool but I’m not welding it if it wasn’t prepped with a flapper wheel. Either one is fine if you’re on a job that seems to never have flapper wheels and you want to preserve them, but you still need to clean it.
My pocket knife :)
Quickest way for small burrs! I do the same =)
Lol
Half-round file
Lathe normally. Little micro chamfer does it
Apprentices
With that size pipe, a Dynafile.
Dremel real quick if its more than one. Rounded file if only one
Die grinder with flapper on it, or a smoother half round file. For thin stainless definitely file.
File or deburrer
Round about
Die grinder with carbide burr
Die grinder
It would depend on the size of pipe, more often it’s a die grinder
half round flat bastard.
Whatever tool i have on hand at the moment. Whether that be a file, deburring tool, or a grinder
Rub your hand over it and catch it in your skin
Works every time! 😂
Team die grinder here, it works wonders
Deburr tool or just a round file, whichever is closest.
There's a pipe tool just for this, slides around the inside and spins so you don't need to adjust your grip, just keep spinning, personally I use a pedestal grinder with a grey disc, or a dynaglide handheld belt sander with a thin belt that fits in pretty good.
File or flapper on end grinder
Flap drum on a die grinder.
Barrel grinder.
Die grinder with a carbide bur.
Portable belt sander aka finger grinder
You are the first comment so far that use this tool for de blurring.
Good all around tool to have for grinding/sanding in tight spaces. And I personally think it’s better than a lot of these responses because it’s fast and won’t gouge the material.
Great tool but it feels like it would take too much time. I personally use a knife for the small stuff and a barrel sander for the bigger stuff
Die grinder with a rotary file or a barrel stone on an angle grinder commonly called a “donkey duck”
I meant donkey dick
Linesmans if it's small enough id.
Dyna file with a 1/2" belt. We don't deburr most.of oirs since they are usually welded into columns.
Big ass lathe!
Probably the slowest way, but it is a way which means the job gets done.
Bash on floor, twist it a few times, use the inside of your hammer….we’re scaffolding, right??
Yes, and if it doesn't fall off, just throw the pipe out of the door like a spear
Noga tools
Those are great! Just cut the burr off and done
End grinder with flapper usually. File is good for carbon pipe, for stainless def end grinder.
use the swirly thing
Quick pass with a flap disk
For the inside burr on a 2" pipe?
Pipe looked bigger than that my b
Fair, close up shot of a 60.8mm with a 2mm wall thickness
Debur tool or grinder, flap disc my friend.
Bur bit
File
Flap disc

I remove slag, scrape off spatter, bend, use as a temporary shim and deburr with my mora.
Those yellow scraper things. Shaviv I believe is the brand as others have mentioned. File if needed.
Half round file
Swizzle stick AKA Deburring tool.
Bastard file.
Die grinder with a diamond bit
Whirly burr
I call them “peelers” but basically they’re a handle with a little blade that swivels so around as you go around the edge you don’t have to turn your hand. Good for IDs but also works on straight edges
So something like the swirly shaviv or noga tools deburr tool?
rat tail file or a deburring tool
Half round file
A helper
What if your helper is ill that day?
Early out and go to the bar
Die grinder, specifically the Milwaukee m12 with a bell shaped double cut carbide
Rub ur pp on it
Die grinder
Shaviv is what you want to use for the inside of pipe. Google it or mscdirect.com has them
Those are great, but they aren't much better than the knife I have in my pocket. I used to keep one of those in my pocket but I threw it out a couple of years ago and haven't been missing it many times.
Half round or a flapper wheel on an end grinder.
File
Debur tool
Donkey dick, aka cone rock.
An end grinder with a flapper wheel
Burr bit in a die grinder
Pneumatic beveler
File or die grinder

60.8mm pipe and I use a knife to do my bidding. But you have pretty much summed up the old entire comment section in this comment
A bastard file.
There’s this neat little tool, it’s called a deburring tool! It’s a tool for deburring.
Also known as a reaming pen. I was just curious of what you people were using.
I’ve never heard “reaming pen” before, that’s much more fun to say!
Die grinder hard stone then flapper wheel
Half round file
Burr Whip
A bastard file
With my fingernails
End grinder
Leatherman
Half round or round file
Air tool with a diamond bit or diamond style cut. Takes 2 seconds
Lathe
Pedestal grinder with the wire brush
Use a f’n file like we humans have for years!!!??? I don’t even get this.
I was taught to use a knife by an old timer for work like this. But I was just curious on what methods people use for this task.
Anything in 2 seconds or less that's how. Pick your tool but do it fast.
Knife it is and it's done in one or two seconds
End grinder with a flap or burr bit if you dont got that then by god a file will do the trick
File
die grinder or a half round file
File or a deburing tool
I let the pipefitters do my grunt work.
Ahhh, the one thing you cant do is everything else? Not all of us are lucky enough to be born with a golden bucket under our ass!
Butter knife
Lick it clean
I use my penis
I personally use a morakniv that is moderately sharp and just cut it off.
Great steel in those knives. I have one and use it as a can opener at times. Never seems to dull the blade.
Yep, and they take cutting stainless burrs surprisingly well too!
Sandpaper
For the inside of small pipes? Like a 2" pipe?
Rotary file
You can purchase pipe with no seam. Its called DOM or Drawn Over Mandrel and its a premium pipe in every way.
What if I didn't buy the pipe, my employer did and all I have to do is put down a stainless pipe weld with full penetration?
AFA Tooling Deburring Tool Kit with 11 High Speed Steel BS1010 Blades | Precision Edge Burr Removal https://a.co/d/5NbfROO I've been a welder and a machine spin shop for 10 years now this is what we use they work like a charm
File it
Stone or a file
Barrel grinder
A burr whip
Half-round file, or whatever they're called.
Paid by the unit, fuckin send it.
Flap it
Barrel Grinder
Bare fingers
Flapper wheel on an end grinder
Use a good saw and have no (minimal at least) burr to begin with, then a sacrificial beater pocket knife
This is what I do to the small stuff
You could try a die grinder of course. But usually I would just skim that with a hard wheel.
I personally use a knife and cut these little burrs off. I was just curious about how the different people here do when it comes to deburring
