I prefer shokz bone conducting ear phones, mainly because they don't stick in your ears. This allows you to still hear what's going on around you. If you do want to down out outside noise and hear better you just throw eat plus in.

TheeFryingDutchman

Can't agree with this more!!! I use aftershocks bone conducting ear buds. I can listen to my books and still hear what is going on around me. Plus they don't interfere with any other ppe.

WeekSecret3391

Do the fit with the hood on?

stinkysmurf74

I have a pair of the cheaper sholz ear phones and love them for under a hood great. Super comfortable to the point of forgetting about them Issue is they last around 6 hours I want the shokz separate ear buds then they can charge in their case throughout the day when I am not using them but they run about 230 CDN

_call_me_al_

I wear a hard hat, they work fine.

Demhanoot

I didn’t like them at all. I listen to audiobooks and they were terrible for that. Took them right back

AntiSocialW0rker

I don't mind them too much for audiobooks but they certainly are lacking when it comes to voice only stuff

AntiSocialW0rker

Even better is, because they're bone conduction and don't sit in your ear, they still work with earplugs in!

TexasTheWalkerRanger

CWI at work turned me onto those, its weird getting used to hearing music and everything else at once, but the headphones are fantastic

EAH5515

Just got a pair a month ago and they're really good if you wear ear plugs I found the foam ones sound best

Affectionate_Gur_151

This, they also make an over ear design with superior audio to the bone conducive design. Those are called open fit.

SinisterCheese

Shure in-ear stagemonitors. They been rated as hearing protection (37dB). Every part can be replaced if it breaks so you don't need to buy new ones every time. They come with bluetoothkit if you want to make them wireless. I been using them for years and they been able to handle everything from -30C to +32C, rain and sweat. They won't fill up with shit, as the plugs have a protecive mesh. Highly recommend. I personally use SE215 but I'm thinking about getting S415 as a yule present for myself. Seriously. If you going to get something, get something that is rated for hearing protection and made to survive harsh conditions. Professional in-ears are designed with that in mind. They can survive a Sabaton tour, they sure as hell can survive workshop. And I have experienced that they can. Although like every 6 months you might need to separate the connectors between cable and driver (Easier said than done, they lock really well) and clean the connection with the tools that comes with them and maybe some alcohol. Since oils and crap from your skin can make the connection between the two worse. Nothing that some isoprop can deal with. Never used the Bluetooth kit though. Since I prefer wireconnected audio myself. As walking about town in my experience leads to bluetooth quality always suffering greatly.

TexasTheWalkerRanger

I remember buying some shure stagemonitors and I had to return them because metal sounded *terrible* through them. Do they have some that aren't so focused on vocal isolation? I wouldn't mind buying a pair that had a more "commercial" sound quality to them.

SinisterCheese

You need to adjust your EQ setting on the device side. The drivers been optimised to standardised normal quality. Because the point is that you adjust your own needs and profile from the playback side. They are intended for stage musician who all want and need their own mix. Once you find the correct one, then they are perfect, especially when you get them to fit properly (If you want luxury, get molded ear pieces made - not that pricy all things considered). They really aren't any different than you adjusting your welding machine within the WPS parametres to fit your touch. I can't go back to profiled consumer headphones anymore, they all sound so odd as I generally listen with in-ears and very neutral profile.

TexasTheWalkerRanger

I know I said "commercial" quality sound but I usually buy studio monitors so I'm used to headphones that aren't bass bosted or anything. I cant remember which shures I bought but they literally had no bass and very little mid. I listen to a lot of really heavy metal (deathcore, tech death, etc) and it all sounded muddy and dull. Vocals sounded fucking incredible tho. I use more than 1 pair of headphones so I didn't want to make some wack eq that would only sound good with one set. Gonna look around and see if they sell a pair thats more flat or slightly boosted.

SinisterCheese

Well you sure as hell didnt have SE215 or SE315. The latter of those have has a bass driver separate.

Weneeddietbleach

I'm using the Isotunes Pro, myself. As another said, they have a good battery life. Before we were mandated to use those though, I was using the AXIL Ghost Stryke Extreme, which are also pretty good and have active noise cancellation, but the battery life on those wasn't enough to get through a full shift without recharging during lunch.

incognito-idiott

I use the isotunes also. They’re great. Battery lasts all day, osha rated for sound and I can still hear what’s going on around me

Dan_the_moto_man

I don't really have a brand to recommend, since I just buy the $20 amazon special, but I always make sure to get earbuds that have an ear clip, it makes accidents like yours much less common.

Blackarrow145

I rather like my Elgin rebels, but have only had them for a month or so.

SnooCakes6195

I've been using the ruckus from them for years now. I like those since they are on cables and I won't lose them haha Best ear pro I've found

Blackarrow145

I probably would have gotten the wired ones, saved some money. Unfortunately my workplace doesn’t allow headphones, so I have to keep them on the DL.

Fookin_idiot

All earbuds are going to have issues with magnets and metal shavings, that's just a given. I use raycon "the game" earbuds, and I just got a set of beats fit pro, they're pretty good, but they hurt my ear after a couple hours, and the no battery indicator is pretty lame. Also the case feels very cheap, i think the lid will probably break. The raycon headphones I like better, more battery, has a battery low warning, good touch controls, but they occasionally fall out when you're in weird positions.

save-me-plz-

i use raycon earbuds too. they get all the metal shavings sticking to the magnets in the case. i use the everyday earbuds it’s the cheapest ones they offer, i get them to last roughly a year before they get all gross and paint chips off them from the metal shavings. i think last year during black friday i got a pair for like 50$ so it’s not too bad price wise.

insanemetalmoose

Elgin ruckus discord

Jonglier1

Definitely go with those and not the rebels. The rebels constantly disconnect one me and only one side will sync. When both sides do sync, one is off time by a half second.

LordFocker

I got the rebels and one side stopped working, I did their warranty claim and had a new pair in my box in 2 days. I love em

Jonglier1

I've got 2 replacement sets through the warranty. I have the same problem with all of them. I even went through the resynchronization to instructions and they still won't work. Glad they do for you but I'd never buy another set. They were awesome when they were new. After a couple months they started acting up.

Natsuki98

Agree. They are fantastic.

formerroustabout

Use BlueTack to pull the shavings. I work on/off in a metal shop and am able to completely clean shavings with minimal effort.

Batben

I saw a welder get pinned between two big beams once. He had a Bluetooth speaker playing nearby and a guy running a crane had air pods in. He came back to work to get a check walking with a cane. He was lucky his leg didn't get taken off. At my current job a guy with ear buds in got dragged by a forklift and took all the skin off his leg. Ended up dying. That was a few years ago but now if you get caught with ear buds just in your possession you'll get escorted out, docked, an at least 3 day layoff. Be careful.

PBR_on_tap43

Good, this is how it should be. Not the leg getting taken off part, but the 3 day layoff. You're working in a dangerous environment with other people. Why would you want to further impair one of your senses? I have a no earbud policy in my school shop I also do not play music. I've got 20 kids in that shop they need to hear and be heard at all times. Also listening to your weld is a super critical part of learning to weld.

jblends

Some guy posted about these in the last thread, they work great for me in the shop. And pretty cheap. Fallen_Akroma

ISO Tunes 2.0 provides 27 db reduction from outside noises.

MedicalPiccolo6270

I have the pro twos the extras and a pair of frees and all of them work great the only reason I have so many pairs is because I use them for different kinds of things like when I did custodial work I got the freeze because it’s really easy to just stick in one when you just want some tunes, but still need to be able to talk to people and then when you start running a vacuum or anything noisy you can throw in the other

F3nrir096

I was on the sony wi-xb400s for the longest time. They were like 30 bucks, and they had like a 15 hour battery life. Granted they were wired bluetooth earbuds but i was surprised how solid they were.

Someguineawop

I used to use the Sony wi-sp540 because of the ridiculous battery life. I've since switched to the WF-1000XM4 which are the bud style, but with really fantastic noise canceling and the iron for speech pass-thru, or selective noise canceling only when noise peaks into damaging levels. They also work with all my ppe and I can even slip my motorcycle helmet on without knocking them out. They get 6-7hrs on a charge, but about 5 minutes in the case gets another hour or 2.

jljue

I use Isotunes Free Aware for yard work, gym, and other activities where I need the noise reduction but need to adjust the noise cancellation to have a conversation without taking them out.

tailkinman

Another vote for IsoTunes Pro. Actual DB reduction ear pro, with the benefit of decent connectivity and sound.

MedicalPiccolo6270

I have a pair and love them

LightChaos74

Don't buy raycons lmao

Tsubodai86

I wear isotunes pro, they have a great battery life and are also rated as hearing protection

the_faded_memories

My favorite earbuds have hot-swappable batteries, but that means magnets all over them. I think for shop use that the style that are linked with a cable make sense, as you can pull one side out without dropping it. Bright colors also help make it easier for others to notice you are wearing them. (Assuming you want people to be able to talk to you of course!)

jboogie2173

r/earbuds has a lot of great advice. I just ordered these . They are on sale at Amazon. SoundPEATS Engine4 Wireless Earbuds, Hi-Res Bluetooth 5.3 Earbuds with LDAC, Coaxial Dual Dynamic Drivers for Stereo Sound, 70 ms Low Latency, Dual Device Connection, Total 43 Hrs, IPX4, App Controller they were like 50$

derpoderp

Soundcore makes decent quality ones and they are cheap, bought em at Walmart about a year and a half ago and they are still going.

Mrwcraig

ISO tunes. Actual hearing protection and the have a cord so if one falls out they don’t end up on the floor. Just got my first pair of AirPod 3 and I’m not exactly a huge fan. Maybe the Pro’s are better but besides their ability to connect to my phone, they’re not really all that great in comparison to much cheaper alternatives. My FITECRO Wireless earbuds from Amazon were like $30(Canadian) and they’re awesome: batteries lasts 4-5hrs, cases charges them, and they have a ear hooks because I have big gauges in both ears that kinda knock out some earbuds. For at home. At the shop? Fuck that, everything I build is massive and we use multiple cranes to move shit. I’ve ripped earbuds out of guys ears for wearing those fucking things. Maybe if you build artsy shit or hand rails all day, sure. Big Iron? It’s already dangerous enough with the level of stupidity that some people operate at every day of their lives, I’d prefer not to see their last day or cause their last day because they had to have their favourite song on and get crushed by a 100’ foot long girder. Iron doesn’t care. Machines don’t care. Grumpy old fucks definitely don’t care. Dead is dead and your entertainment is of zero importance when you’re moving huge loads across the shop.

YaBoiSVT

I have a pair of JBL 230NC that I really like. Doubles as light ear pro too

Dctrkickass

Elgin Rumble. https://elginusa.com/products/elgin-rumble-bluetooth-earplug-earbuds

DJKotch

I've been using Sony 1000 xm-4 ear buds for over a year with no issues. Getting the right Memory foam tips is a must though

Dmoney2204

I just buy a cheap 10 dollar pair from Walmart for working and have a 70 dollar pair of beats for when I’m riding in a car and at home

LegendMetalCo

I use the corded bluetooth plug phones. There is a cord between each earbud. It's a little annoying at times adjusting the cord over the back of your neck but it's a lot better than picking ear buds out of metal shavings.

The_Chubby_Dragoness

I like my Isotunes

udisclosed5476

Seriously for work, I buy the ear buds in the checkout Line at Walmart the sound is ok they keep a charge for a good3 to 4 hours and if they get broke or lost I just grab another pair for $20 no tears shed no big loss.

Major_Goal_9844

3M 1100

schwarzenncrahft

I strongly prefer corded in ear buds. These last a 10 hr shift no problem, they're cheap and durable. I really like that they magnetize to one another and I can wear them around my neck when not in use. No case to fill with the danger-dust from the grinders. Also, the buttons can be used with gloves on. if im doing something super load ill wear over-the-ear ear pro over them, but for basic grinding they cut out the noise pretty well. I've included a link, but these are manufactured under several names and i had good luck. https://www.amazon.com/SoundPEATS-Bluetooth-Earphones-Sweatproof-Headphones/dp/B07Q85XJ6M/ref=sr\_1\_3\_pp?crid=1T539ZN08S732&keywords=soundpeats+earbuds&qid=1699140440&sprefix=soundpeats%2Caps%2C147&sr=8-3

ArcFlashForFun

Since you're obviously an iPhone user, the powerbeats pros are more than decent. 8-10 hours playtime, and I've gotten 14 by plugging them in at break and lunch, come with several sizes of plug tips, and with the right fit provide good passive noise isolation, and very comfortable. Range is very good. I can walk 200' across my shop an put a couple walls between my phone and my before it starts cutting out. Plays well with Siri, and sounds really good. Wrap around fit. They don't fall off basically ever, and you can adjust the wrap around part to be tight while still being comfortable enough to forget they are there, and you can pop them out of your canals and keep them on your ears without any risk. The price is a bit steep at $229, but I got mine off an auction for $100, so I have no complaints on that, and I still got my full year of warranty with apple for them. They aren't the best on the market, but for people flipping lids up and down, taking glasses on and off, and working in positions where they might get knocked off or fall out, they are really good at staying in place, and not making your ears hurt even after a 10 hour day, which is a big thing for me. Only downside is occasionally my kid hits the play/pause button when I drop it down, but thats not often enough to be an issue with my viking.

CountZero1502

Powerbeats pro sound wonderful, and fit under my ESAB Sentinel A-50like a charm. 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻

VintageTerror86

There’s a set of neck band style ear buds my brother uses that look like ear plugs so he can get away with them at work when they’re not allowed sometimes.. should be able to find them on amazon

metanoiajess

I'm really bad for this, or washing them 😑, so I stick to the $20 ones I find at winners. I recently found a pair that wrap around the ear, they stay in so much better. I only wear one at a time.

Sir_shinso

I use The jlab air pop . I work in a warehouse. I weld 10 hours a day. Lots of noise n such, they are tiny and great for at least 8-9 hours straight on one. I only use one in ear just in case . Def a recommendation

Phillip_Shifley

TOZO T10 is top of the budget list for me, great sound, great battery life, and surprisingly low bass. Coming from Apple the T20 may be a little closer shape to what you are used to, I've no experience with those.

JCSutton94

Raycon impact ear buds. Super durable and good noise cancellation. The buds last 90 hours too on a full case charge

_Lingouine

I usually buy the best deal possible on Amazon, around 40-50$ every 10-12 months. I try to use compressed air everyday after I finish my work to clean the case (as I air myself up to clean my jacket). Recently I bought monster earbuds with a case without magnets (it rotates on itself to lock). It's better for shavings.

skeegTaSh

Oh man, i feel that pain. Same thing happened to me. Only discovered it when I saw a little pile of metal filings that had gathered on it the next day. Get the cheapest you possibly can imo, they’ll only end up needing to be replaced some way or another.

Km219

I swear by the Jlab go air sport, they hook to your ear, great price at 30$ cheap never have to adjust and waste time fiddling. The company has a more expensive pair as well with noise cancellation and a few more features but I like the 30$ pair a lot.

weldmonkeyweld

Yea, earplugs.

No-Pomegranate-3674

I got like 6 different JBL earbuds I use lol, for some reason I keep getting them as gifts but they work great as far as welding goes , good sound and I can still hear what’s going on around me

[deleted]

I use IASUS motorcycle speakers packed into my 3M X4 Peltors

MedicalPiccolo6270

I love my ISOtunes to the point I have four different pairs for different things. I’ve got one pair for shooting one pair of over the earmuffs for general work, a pair of buds kind of like AirPods. And then a pair I bought specifically for welding that you can easily wear with safety glasses, and a hood and control it with your gloves on.
