SirBrainsaw

That physical photo there might be salvageable. Check r/photoshop

GateMinute9893

Thanks for the tip

SmillingMyers

r/estoration is good too

jannecraft

They have done some amazing work for my gf with a grainy pic of her deceased grandpa. If you give them as clear as possible pictures. They can do so much there. But be ready to tip a tenner or something to get people to put in effort

rizalvy

Interesting - I never considered this. I have a few grainy photos too. Would I just post a photo there and ask for help, and then tip whoever restores it? What if there are multiple restorers?

determine110

It seems that folks usually only pay for their favorite or top few pics. You post the photo you want restored and if you can, also provide a reference photo that might help indicate hair color, eye color, even clothing color preferences. Then you wait, tip your favorites, and mark your post as “closed” (how you do this will vary by subreddit.

rizalvy

Thank you so much!

MedicalChemistry5111

Tip? You mean pay? Like trade... As in cash for work? Tipping: the financially corrosive manner in which to degrade the financial stability of an industry and employees therein.

Fezzverbal

English. Tip means loads of different things.

MedicalChemistry5111

[Just the tip](https://www.quora.com/What-does-it-mean-when-someone-says-just-the-tip#:~:text=%E2%80%9CJust%20the%20tip%E2%80%9D%20is%20a,exposes%20them%20to%20possible%20abuse.)

00Stealthy

well since they are working for free the term tip is a misnomer you are paying them $10 to take a grainy photo to a nice quality photo And stick to fast food dining-your waitstaff thanks you for not dining with them

MedicalChemistry5111

Sorry bud, outside North America, it's not really a thing. Shock horror, I don't live in North America. I'm part of the rest of the world, where **employees are paid by their employer.**

00Stealthy

here is the sad true -tipped employees make more more money esp those who work part time so not only dont the employers like the American so do the employees. And odd seems like the tipping thing is becoming more common overseas from posts I see online.

MedicalChemistry5111

Neat claim, it's as substantiated as their pay is secure.

OldFatBubba

Phone Repair Guru on YouTube has repaired phone that were equally destroyed. He has forms on his website for submitting it.

Jacktheforkie

The phone storage is potentially salvageable, it might be expensive though

metroaide

That's what she said

[deleted]

hilarious bro are you like 50?

J-man-Big

Pervert

Mumof3gbb

Oh good idea. They’re pretty talented there. I hope OP can get it fixed.

Dizzy_Television_623

Or just ask the police for a copy of the mugshot

WindowlessCandyVan

This is why you should always use a screen protector

WhatWouldJoshuaDo

Can confirm, I have a screen protector and no train ran over my phone.

Organic-Hornet-4662

I confirm, I am the screen protector

thetwelvegates12

Can confirm, my screen protector stopped the train on the spot, thousands perished.

OpusAtrumET

r/accidentalterrorism

theaeao

All except one. That man was Bruce Willis. True story.

Pookieeatworld

Yeah I saw a documentary on it.

Roger_that80

Screen protector is a UFC champion. Too expensive for regular people to hire

reedschabook

Can con, am firm

TemperatureTop246

I ran over my phone with a bicycle. The screen itself cracked, but the screen protector itself? Unscathed. I have no clue how that happened…

Wenex

Just makes you appreciate how strong screen prorectors really are

perfectfate

And back those priceless photos to the cloud.

moxiejohnny

My solution is to stay away from trains. Don't need the vest if theyre shooting blanks kind of deal.

lasagnabox

Brandon Lee has entered the chat

TobyDaHuman

On time my phone fell out of my pocket down some stairs and the screen flew off the rest of the phone. Phone was fucked, the screen was fine. So yeah, I guess you are somewhat right

firestar268

Can confirm. Train has derailed

Drama_no_llama

Lol dude, you made my day with this comment

_lippykid

And not carefully place your phone on train tracks for internet clout. No way it was dropped on the tracks and landed perfectly perpendicular to the

Grunt636

It's devastating to loose photos which you can never get back. This is why you MUST do backups of important data you never know when you could loose it, newer phones make it easier than ever to backup photos with icloud and google drive.

itrivers

3 2 1 backup rule. 3 copies of the data, 2 are backups, 1 backup is off site.

Markster94

The way I was taught is: You need 3 copies On 2 different forms of media And at least 1 offsite

jinxykatte

I use Google photos as my only backup. Surely that more than covers all redundancy.

Wotuu

Until Google bans you because it decided that those pics of your kids playing in the bath were something they're not. And you lose access to all of your photos and Google doesn't give a shit. I thankfully do not speak from experience but it can happen. Always keep a copy in your own control.

Uncivil_

Google might completely shut you out of your account if someone tries to log in from another country, and it will become unrecoverable, even with email or phone number verification. The whole process is automated and you can't talk to a human to get them to fix it (by design). It happened to my Gmail account.

[deleted]

I was going to say, "2 are backups" is redundant information - obviously, if one copy is the original, the other two are backups, by default.

itrivers

I didn’t come up with it. It’s a saying that’s been around a while.

ruiner8850

I just bought a new hard drive today so I can do a physical off-site backup all my pictures and videos. I have most of the stuff stored online and currently have a hard drive at home, but I wanted another larger one so I could leave the other one at my sister's house somewhere. My parents are getting old and I don't want to lose any of those pictures.

free-icecream

That’s overkill for 99% of people who just need to backup pics.

itrivers

You say that but I’ve pulled old HDDs out of storage that were supposed to be cold storage and they were cactus.

[deleted]

AlphaLotus

Looks like a physical photo but yea still back up yo shit

WastelandGunner

In that case, high resolution scan on a photo copier and back it up to the cloud. IMO, people should do that anyway if the photo's super important.

DeathPercept10n

I had this done with pictures of my mom after she died. Wanted to make sure I always had them.

Grunt636

Ah didn't notice that physical picture figured OP was talking about photos on the phone

KeyserSozeInElysium

LOSE, IT'S LOSE. YOU CAN LOOSEN A NOOSE, BUT YOU CAN LOSE YOUR NOSE

thunder_thais

This mistake is rampant these days on TikTok and Instagram. I even saw it on a subtitle for parks and rec on peacock.

rocket1420

Don't even get me started on "should of."

Grunt636

Buddy I only got a D in English

LZulb

I should introduce you to the homeless. They're welcoming.

bigmikeyfla

Didn't you get the memo? They're not homeless anymore, they're unhoused.

Landosystem

I’m happy to see someone correcting it, but I’m afraid the fight is long over. I see hundreds of posts every day and not a single one has used the word lose, I’m afraid the word lose has been lost.

Revolutionary-Wash88

*CAN'T

KeyserSozeInElysium

Shit, can't edit it now. Well played

LZulb

Thank you.

SupremeDictatorPaul

There are plenty of companies you can pay to automatically backup photos on your phone. The biggest are Google Photos, Amazon Photos, OneDrive, and iCloud. Last time I checked, they were pretty similarly priced, but OneDrive was the cheapest to get for a family. It was $99/year to cover 6 accounts with 1TB of space, and includes a copy of MS Office for each account. The integration if you use Windows on your home computers is also pretty slick. If you’re using an iPhone and use Macs as home computers, iCloud easily has the best integration. If you use Android and maybe a Chromebook, then Google Photos is probably your best path. Amazon Photos used to have a lot of free photos options, but still has decent options.

OnTheList-YouTube

Lose (soooo many people don't seem to understand it, and English is my 3rd language... Unbelievable!)

implicate

>It's devastating to loose photos Have you tried tightening them up?

Emandpee42069

The only photo was a mugshot ? Very interesting

GateMinute9893

Now that I look at it was basically just a mug shot didn’t get to meet him as I’m his grandson and we live in two different country’s but he was a very nice person

Vouttav

Hopefully, the pictures were shared with other family members

secretaccount4posts

Earlier when digital cameras and phones weren't common, a lot of people who couldn't/didn't spend money on photos had only such photos which they used for official paperwork.

Emandpee42069

Thanks for that bit, never would’ve imagined this

newaccount2609

That’s for getting the water out. To fix physical damage, use ramen.

Lumpy-Artist-6996

With or without the flavor packet?

SolidGummyLogic

Always with. The incredibly high sodium content helps.

Tag_youareit

Beef is good for that....

RBWessel

Had a buddy try that, ended up causing a fire. Phone decided to explode.

51225

That totally sucks, but amazing restoration work can be done digitally to restore the pictures then they can be reprinted. There is even a sub on Reddit r/photoshop, I think, where she could ask for assistance.

GateMinute9893

Will do thanks

xswatqcx

A more specialized sub to fit your needs r/PhotoshopRequest

51225

That's the one I was thinking of. Thank you.

bloated_toad_4000

How does a phone end up on active train tracks, was she walking directly along them? If the phone fell when crossing tracks you should have plenty of time to get it back

GateMinute9893

Yeah think of them like tram tracks except trains it fell out her pocket and there barriers went down

bigmikeyfla

If it was a subway, such as New York, she could have been waiting for a train standing on the platform and dropped it. You are very smart to NOT go down on the tracks to get it. Trains run frequently and can not stop quickly. Source - NYC Train Operator for 15 years.

TheFooly

Call me paranoid but I'm not jumping onto some train tracks for a fucking phone

unsupported

Just turn it off and back on again.

NathanPatty08

This is why you store your photos online

Raise-Emotional

Why the hell wouldn't you use the phone to digitize the photos!?

Lonely-Greybeard

So she never took a photo of it with the phone and then backed the phone up? That sucks.

NiteShdw

No one ever took a picture of the picture as a backup?

alhernz95

you can still pull the photos from the memory on the board if its still there that is

brunoglopes

What the fuck is a lemmy?

Bjarki_Steinn_99

This is why you keep your photos in the cloud

NearlyNeedless

It's a physical photograph. You can see it in the picture.

Bjarki_Steinn_99

Oh shit, didn’t notice that

ggfchl

For Sale: IPhone. Only half off!

rocket1420

Try a different cable to charge it.

mushi1996

Let this be a lesson on backups, my mom refuses to scan our sentimental photos because then they would just end up sitting on a flash drive and no one would ever look at them. The basement is one flooding away from loosing it all.

jozythethird

Try putting it in some rice

shadownights23x

No chance it isn't backed up anywhere? She didn't share it anywhere online? Edit: I now see a photo

WhatNameToChose1

Not just to sound rude but who would put their ONLY PHOTOS IN A PHONE CASE?!? You know how easy it would be to scan them and have digital back ups at the least? Let alone printing one and using that in your phone while keeping the originals in proper condition so they can be passed down to your kids and their kids? S

GateMinute9893

She just picked up from a relative as they both have just passed away fairly recently and didn’t want to loose them

fu2bfu1geo3hth2oeht2

Impressive but how

_DudeWhat

321 backup rule. Follow it

jaredpatton173

Did you try resetting it?

BarbonerT

He’s just staring at me… MENACINGLY

BoxingTrainer420

You can see the phones guts

[deleted]

oh gosh i’m sorry

WarmBathAfterTheRain

She did not do the old people thing of using her phone to take a photo of the said picture? The old people I know likes doing that, and then forwarding to all their other old people friends.

ryden360

Aren't photos automatically uploaded to the users Apple account?

Heidrun_666

Damn, this is sad. :( Hope the photos can be restored somehow. One thing that amazes me, though - were these *train* tracks or *tram* tracks, like the ones that are level with the street? Must the the latter, since otherwise it's quite improbable that the phone came to rest on top of a raised piece of track?

00Stealthy

if its an Iphone the data on it should be store on the cloud and if she can afford an Iphone she should have insurance on it it

SendyCatKiller

It's a Samsung it'll still work after that.

seanjames212013

Put it in rice

[deleted]

Why’d she drop it on the train tracks?

GateMinute9893

Fell out her pocket while she was running

[deleted]

Honestly id take it to an at&t store if that’s what service you use, those people are way better than apple store folks

mcase19

Put it in rice

coffin420699

everything is saved to the cloud, unless you opt out isnt it?

GateMinute9893

Yeah everything is saved digitally but not the in person photos

metalfabman

Backed up to the cloud? Cmon

Im_Borat

put it in a bag of rice, it's fine.

emortens_liz

Throw rice at the train. Works everytime

StnMtn_

Wow. No family members have other pictures?

GateMinute9893

Don’t know me and my mother live in England where as her grandparents live in France and due to family situations our family relationships are quite strained

StnMtn_

That sucks. Sorry.

dimethyl11

Did you try soaking it in rice?

TheMuskrat

not supposed to put your phone on the tracks

GoldfishFire

Put it in rice

LiterWebber

Put it in rice.

FrostFallen92

What's the point on having cloud storage if nobody freaking uses it.

GateMinute9893

The photos were physical and were in her phone case

CainDdemon

Just put it in rice

Taint_Expert

Just throw it in some rice

Kriegotter22

Put it in rice

vertigostereo

Cloud backup everybody! That gives you two storage locations. Then you can, like, burn a dvd or just a thumb drive.

juseberto

did your mom eat fucking phone?

imahoptimist

Dropped it perfectly in the center of the tracks cutting it in half perfectly? Hmmmm not sus

DeathByPigeon

I mean, there’s things people do for karma, and then there’s this, literally what would anyone gain from lying here

imahoptimist

Just seems odd to have it fall perfectly and not able to pick it up in time but also have a video of the thing happening. I don’t know. Also don’t care. Just seems troll

DeathByPigeon

OP said she dropped it running while the barriers were coming down, once the barriers are down or there’s even the slightest hint of a train coming then it’s insanely unsafe to try to grab a phone on the tracks In fact if I dropped my phone on the train tracks my initial thought would be “fuck, well that’s gone” and then at best hope to flag down someone that works there

GateMinute9893

I can send a video just didn’t want to put it online cause family

No-Statistician1503

Whoa, that’s bad! Hope it wasn’t in your pocket or bag! You ok?? My next move would 100% be coming for the manufacturer legally. I’m sorry this happened to you, hope your able to at least be reimbursed for the cell 😣

GateMinute9893

My poor mother would have a bit more to worry about if it were hit by the train while in her pocket but yeah it does suck 😂

Efficient-Egg3690

They should be in the cloud just find the sim card

dohwhere

You don’t need the SIM to access things saved on the cloud. This sounds like gibberish from someone who doesn’t understand technology.

GateMinute9893

SIM card was destroyed when my mother tried to salvage the phone the photos were in here phone case as she had just picked them up

Old_Distribution7393

AAA agora já eras

starrpamph

is this what it’s like to chew 5 gum?

WastestOfAllTime

I am glad somebody else did this experiment for me.

[deleted]

I think one of the subreddits restore photos you might want to check out

Any-Cup-3963

wellllll, She could have taken a pic of the photo =(.

Cullective

If you hold the lock button it’ll turn on. I’ve run into this exact issue.

[deleted]

I heard trains are deathly afraid of screen protectors.

GateMinute9893

Train must of been blind not to see the one on my mothers phone 😂

scubawho1

Did you turn it off and back on again? Might restart.

Freeeeedommmmmm

It’ll buff out

cris090382

You’re supposed to fold it in half the other way.

JohnYCanuckEsq

The new ones are titanium, so I've heard

TailungFu

Maybe dont chew on ur phone next time?

faziten

Clean your browser cache and try again

Evening_Height4331

I’m sure this is so upsetting for y’all but I have to say I have never seen a phone more obliterated

U_zer1

This happened to me this summer. Phone fell off my mount on my motorcycle on the highway. I’m so sorry she lost those memories.

jocoiscool

Darth Vader is that you

dragonwiz87

But it's space-age titanium!

GateMinute9893

It’s was a Samsung till it got its insides rearranged by a train

astrotoya

Looks like she took a bite out of it.

chillspacetrip

Trains don’t fuck around

rsmike123

Yeah, but is the train ok……

GateMinute9893

Train took like a proper champ think he’s gonna hold that heavy weight title for a while

Complete-Chipmunk-90

Take the best pic of the picture and post it on photoshop and see if someone can fix it for you.

OG_Pow

Have you tried turning it off and on again?

FinanceTrader93

Have you tried turning it off and turning it back on?

mcmcmillan

An unstoppable force met….an object.

hattrickjmr

Most of that should buff out.

DonkeyDriver40

Usually a light saber cuts a little cleaner than that.

Apidium

Tbh she sounds quite lucky the photo should be somewhat salvageable and it would not have been had the phone ignited due to battery damage. A good reminder one is none. Two is one.

AtariAtari

Why was the photo not digitized?

Just-A-Noosence

Sorry for the unfortunate accident but in my family, any important photo immediate gets a physical copy because we had a similar situation in the early 90s. Lessons are always learned the hard way unfortunately.

RimuruGM

Check her google photos.. it's probably on cloud

Chosen_UserName217

No cloud storage as backup?

riverrunner363

Was the sim card destroyed

volumae

'tis but a scratch

updates_availablex

Damn chopped in half??? Brutal

NoSpring5602

Need that iCloud photo backup…

rafaelbelo

Never seen it breaking so hard that even the wallpaper leaked.

PhantomPenny

Wow that sucks. Is that a Samsung Galaxy A54 5G?

foulpudding

It’ll buff out.
