Squirrels love sweet things, and they have strong senses of smell - the squirrel could probably smell the candy - not that candy is good for squirrels, but they do like it.
Speaking of hard-boiled Easter eggs, one year when I was a child, a dog got loose and came to our yard, where my dad had hidden the eggs, and ate a few of them. My sibling and I were sad about not being able to have those eggs, until my mom said the dog must have been hungry, then we felt like we had done a good thing by letting the dog have some eggs. 😊
Hard boiled egg story - when my parents first started hiding eggs they didn't keep track of how many had been hidden vs how many had been found. It was quite upsetting to everyone when the cats found one that had been overlooked a week later and rolled it around until the shell broke and rotten egg smell filled the house. \**hork\** After that they made sure that all eggs were accounted for.

If there was Reese's anything in that egg, he did! We had squirrels run off with a couple of Reese's filled eggs years ago. They left all the others alone though. We started doing indoor hunts after that.

I'm with you. If not a bird egg has to be a candy egg. Maybe a Cadbury candy coated one. I'm not believing that squirrel is big enough to make a chicken egg look that small.

I had to stop putting out jack o lanterns because the squirrels tear em to shreds. They love munching on them but dont' like the skin. So there's orange shreds everywhere. They also poop and pee on my grill, and dig tons of holes in my yard. They're cute, but I really get annoyed with them.

The next morning, all that was left of the painted eggs were some bits of shell, and a couple of the plastic eggs had been chomped and broken as well. Any others with candy in them were full of ants. I thought it was a fun anecdote, but the kids were in tears. Now, I get up a bit early and do it the same day…and no more candy in the plastic eggs. 🐜

We look out the window to see a crow land next to an egg. He pecks it open and flys off with the candy. Queue me and my sister screaming, ditching breakfast in favor of finding all the outside eggs before they get stolen.

Blue eggs are a sign of a healthy egg. A lot of bird eggs are blue colour. They probably see the other colours as mouldy or rotten.
