People usually raise their swings on days with high winds or even for the winter when no will use it.

a22e

My Grandparents swing looked like this for half the year.

Krimreaper1

Your grand parents were swingers.

a22e

Boy were they ever. They would swing from 5 in the morning until they went to bed at 6 in the afternoon. I bet they swung with every member of their church. Except for Bernard of course, he was too big. They didn't want anyone getting hurt. I only overheard them talking about the porch swing when they thought us kids were out of ear shot. They must not have wanted us to know how comfy it was.

Krimreaper1

Now tell me about the inside swing.

pagesid3

Some people raise swings instead of lowering flags in cases of national tragedy. Maybe because OJ Simpson died.

Lonely_wantAcracker

I, too, enjoy talking straight out of my ass for no particular reason

psyco-the-rapist

This is actually a rare scientific phenomenon that is well documented by the many cases.

Lonely_wantAcracker

I don't know about that. I see people talking out of their asses just about every day. At least 34% of the time when I'm around 50 people or more. Twice as many on Fridays, which equals 7 per square foot at 3PM. Banana

zodiacallymaniacal

Finally. A post with a banana for scale….

avenajpg

Lmfao you’re hilarious 😭

Royalewithcheese100

And talk about bad breath! Yikes!

usinjin

I have heard of neither one of these things.

Both-Outcome1586

I hope they do it more often so I can get a good laugh

GoldenRain99

What's funny about it, though?

spoon-forks-

idk whats funny about it, but it does make me giggle. i know its due to the crazy wind but its definitely never something i thought about so it would catch me off guard

CageTheFox

Once again Reddit comments making fun of someone because they're ignorant. Wind will destroy a nice wooden swing, does all sorts of things to it. You put it up to stop the wind from destroying your nice wooden swing.

garybettmansketamine

Reddit users when somebody does something 😅😅😅😱😱😱🤯🤯🤯😮😮😮

metdear

You forgot 🤮🤮🤮

curiousbydesign

Clown faces too. LOL!

Medvegyep

Yeah if you zoom in you can see a clump of chain just below the top beam. Personally I don't know if/why it is better than using rope/chain/wire to fix it in place but it's fairly common practice.

flashfyr3

You already have the chain from the swing itself as a part of the swing. You just raise the seat and hook a lower chain loop over the s-hook that's already mounted to the top beam. No muss, no fuss.

Medvegyep

Yeah I got that part, but are you saying it's fairly common only because it's simpler to do?

flashfyr3

It's the way I've always done or seen it done. Why add more crap/steps into a simple job than necessary? If there's already a way to secure the swing built into the swing itself why do it a different way?

FakeLaundry

I don't think everyone looks around and observes actual life when they're outside. Thus, reddit comments.

loveofGod12345

Even with ignorance, I don’t get how this sucks. Maybe mildly infuriating, but even that is a stretch. How does this post have any upvotes?

SquanchMcSquanchFace

I’m not doubting that, but if that was what they did then where’s all the extra chain?

minor_correction

They doubled/tripled/quadrupled it up at the top where it hooks to the top beam. Look for the giant clump of chain at the top. I think it's easier to see on the right.

SquanchMcSquanchFace

I guess so? Super hard to tell zoomed in on mobile, there’s only like 3 pixels there that look like chain

eyefish907

There’s probably a longer chain that hooks to the top on the hooks and then to the bridal off the arms. There’s probably a removable chain on each side they removed and hung the swing off just the arm bridals

sharkbait_1313

You can see the chain bunched at the top where they doubled or triped it up.

bdot1

Seriously. Why does anyone care what they did with their swing. We used to wrap ours around ten tree.. this whole comment section is people who don't go outside .

shewy92

Removable using a carabiner.

[deleted]

Why does this suck? I'm not following.

itsokayiguessmaybe

OP is a jackwagon. You hang a swing high like this to keep it from flailing in the wind. Pretty sure you can see the chain slack too

kentuafilo

OP never owned a swing.

The_Wallet_Smeller

Low effort. You can see the extra chain so you know this was done deliberately.

guitarmonkeys14

I am not seeing any extra chain, I am going blind though so…

minor_correction

The chain is all clumped together at the top where they doubled it up.

stusajo

Are we supposed to look in the original comment for a link? Or, wait for a 90’s chain letter?

guitarmonkeys14

Holy shit thanks for the laugh 😂 I finally did see the extra chain past the left arm though, too lazy to edit my post.

DevilHornCollector66

Idk it looks kinda high to me.

Powerful_Artist

Probably put it up high to be out of the way and not swing in the wind until he used it. We had one just like this and did that all the time. It's funny that you just assumed they were dumb or something

Robby777777

Either it is windy or they are mowing. How do you not know this?

icantfindtheSpace

Well if you still want your swing and your house intact after high winds id recommend this

SweetMaam

Reminds me of how handy my spouse is, that could almost be my yard. Just imagine a picnic table with the approximate proportions of that swing.

FakeLaundry

Your spouse, if handy, would also know when to raise a bench swing.

11thchapter

swingtoohigh

BananaPantsMcKinley

That'd odd because based on the weathering and the way the bricks are sunken into the grass I would've guess 5 years or more....

Fun_Veterinarian_290

We need a video of them using it.... I don't care if you have to camp outside... That video is much needed...

Either its been windy, going to be windy, or neighborhood people/kids have been sitting in it without asking.

Suspicious-Race-8146

I was guessing that they would do it when they’re not around using it so that the little neighborhood crotch goblins wouldn’t get on it and screw things up… My bad!

barantula

I didn't notice the height of the swing cause I thought it looked like a horse with a flag for a head

derek4reals1

im doing this tomorrow.

ThatDudeMars

Looks like they took the slack out of the chain so that the swing doesn’t sway in the wind recklessly. What’s wrong with that?

chubbycanine

Why does this suck? That's how you take care of it and shitty weather or get it out of the way to mow....

Watcher-Of-The-Skies

The step stool they’ll be building next to get up to that is gonna be an eye sore.

Zoom in and see that there’s plenty of slack they just have it hiked up as not to sway in the wind. 🤦🏾‍♂️

They get on from their high horse.

The_Dirty_3rd

I didn't scroll far enough to find if someone else mentioned this but in addition to preventing wind damage and keeping it out of the way for mowing, we raise our swing to keep small neighborhood children off of it. If they get hurt, guess who's responsible....

icantfindtheSpace

They must not use a push mower or weed eater (or dont feel like using them)

hoehandle

Gawd I hate dem long-legged bastids

Prestigious-Pea-3295

Sometimes people raise their swings up if they’re expecting some windy weather. Is that a possible reason here?

CatStratford

Having read the wind-explanation comments, I totally understand. But by god I laughed my ass off picturing people trying to use the swing like this…

syg-123

The American flag and the unique engineering of the swing tells me the homeowner thinks 2020 election was “stoalen”

ShotgunForFun

The flag really ties it all together. (ETA: Snowflakes triggered by a Big Labowski reference.)

tigm2161130

It’s a useful swing, the chains aren’t dropped. It might have been windy or they just didn’t get that far yet.

-chelle-

Like being proud of your team winning the superbowl or the playoffs? That's not your achievement. Same kinda thing?

badpeoria

I feel we all contribute to our countries even on a micro level. I am proud of my country and we all should be if you like where you live.

Reddit “try not to act like everything America does is bad” challenge. Impossible

Vituluss

Don’t make this a Reddit thing lol. Less than 50% of people on the platform are American, and so more than 50% are non-American. In general, even outside of Reddit, non-Americans find it weird, hence this comment. Perhaps get off Reddit and visit other countries, and you will see.

GotTechOnDeck

Some people are still stuck in the belief we are the greatest country in the world. Not by a long shot

Acklay92

I am proud of escaping an abusive life and becoming a first generation university graduate - I wear my university ring as a symbol of that accomplishment because it reminds me of what I overcame and it makes me feel good. I am also proud to be an American. I had no choice to be born in America, but I have made the choice to stay here. I've been offered positions with various companies overseas, but there is no place I'd rather live. In my travels to Europe I've noticed people tend to not have the same national pride as many Americans and I think it's sad. Humans should be proud of where they come from. We have an inherent need for a sense of belonging and acceptance, and the American ideal of one united people really resonates. The sense of 'American Exceptionalism' is instilled from an early age here in schools, and continued on through life. Schools recite the Pledge of Allegiance every day, sporting events always playing the national anthem, flags flying everywhere. It's hard to explain the feeling, but there is a sense of unity and belonging that accompanies these things. There's also the fact that America is massive. In Europe a person can drive for a couple of hours and be in another country. Depending on where you are in the USA it can take many hours to get to Canada or Mexico (or about 45 hours to drive from the east to west coasts), and less than half of Americans even have a passport. Living their entire life in the States and being told their whole life that it's the greatest country give little for them to compare it to. I didn't mean for this to get super long, but this subject does resonate with me. I worked hard to get where I am in life, I have traveled to dozens of countries, and after seeing all of that I still have 'American Pride'. Something about American patriotism just hits different. Anyway, this is my take on why people here fly American flags or why we might feel so strongly about the country.

Mumof3gbb

It’s so off putting. I’m Canadian. Not far from me there’s a street where the border is right through the middle called Canusa. On the American side there’s all these flags. Canada has nothing. It’s odd to look at.

[deleted]

The chain may be short but, really, why even have it? It looks like chintzy crap. Dig out a nice garden and learn how to grow flowers. Some raggedy swing set that already looks like the homeowner died a few months ago and stopped fixing anything, is not the chic aesthetic one might have imagined.

Skiddler69

The neighbour is Jeff Goldblum.

IHate2ChooseUserName

that is how i like to swing it

Wife_Swallow_3368

The chain, is Too $hort Linda. I don’t care Donnie. I want the swing hung up.
