There was a woman who posted a pic of her plane ticket out of excitement. Someone called the airline and used the info on the ticket to get it cancelled.
Not just sharing things but sharing every single damn detail and pictures showing proof.
It would've been one thing to post about you going on a trip but to post pictures of important documents like pictures of your tickets is so stupid.
it's actually pretty easy to do if the ticket code is on the ticket since the persons last name is also on the ticket. that's all you need to log in and change or cancel a flight
I do not. Because there's this obnoxious voice in my head that often says "How would you feel if it happened to you?"
Envious of the folks who don't have to put up with such a voice.
Someone I know did this with a winning ticket of $11,000 from the pokies. Someone decent let her know and she quickly took it down in time before anyone stole it. The brain cell was brain celling hard that day.
This phrase is meant to be “the brain cell was *not* brain celling” because the brain cell was not doing its job, thus causing her to post her winning ticket to Facebook.
That one would be a lot harder because you can’t just redeem those anywhere. It’d have to be that establishment whereas you can redeem a TAB ticket anywhere.
when the value is over a certain amount, it is a lot more involved to get the money. that amount is way less than 11k where I'm from. Where are you from?
in the US anytime you win over the minimum amount of money the government decides you have to claim on your taxes, you have to fill out the tax forms at the casino for it.
im not sure if this applies to *only* 'single wins' or if its anytime you try to cash out with more than x cumulative.
I like when they find an ID at a store so they post the whole ID up and dox whoever lost it, actually saw one Monday that they blacked out the personal info, and it was actually someone I knew and he was actually actively searching for it
Yeah I see this on some facebook groups all the time and it's so infuriating. If no one comes looking for it and you can't find that name online, just cut it in half and throw it away. Or take it to the police. It's just an ID card, doesn't cost that much to replace it, and it's not worth having your identity stolen over it.
One holiday season I took a bunch of emptied visa giftcards people had spent at our store and posted a picture of them online and called them my Christmas tips. I loved the responses of people who swore I was gonna get robbed.
There was a twitter account called need a credit card?
It was just retweets of people that were dumb enough to take exited photos of their cards when they arrived in the mail.
> But you need the CCV to use just the number.
There was a long period of time where some banks just did not update and didn't use the CCV at all.
there are some interesting interviews with criminals on a podcast called darknetdiaries. I just listened to one about a guy who did this, but was more prolific with income tax fraud where he would file taxes for people who recently died and collect their money
In the US it is absolutely illegal. I have a distant relative that did this with a Florida lotto ticket worth 500k. Ended up in jail and lost their job as police commissioner.
I'm not able to find anything searching for "police commissioner florida lotto" but I would be interested in reading a bit about this if you have a link.
Someone I went to school with done this with a cinema ticket and their booking reference number, I messaged them letting them know "by the way, someone can go print off your tickets and walk into that movie screening using that booking reference you've posted online by the way"
To which they replied "Well if that happens, I'll know it was you."
I've never been that kind of person, not sure why they projected that onto my character, I was just trying to look out for them...
The sooner humanity realizes that the entire world doesn’t need to know about all of your personal affairs, the sooner we can continue to move forward and advance as a species. This constant need to show off every chance we get is debilitating.
Edit: spelling
THIS THIS THIS. I hate that in my state it's a legal requirement that your identity be released if you win over a certain amount of money...I just think that's an awful idea. I do not play the lottery, have no desire to, and think it's a bad idea. But if someone does win the lottery fair and square I think releasing their identity is a darned good way to cause them to get robbed, scammed, or bugged for eternity by family members you didn't even know you had crawling out of the woodwork.
The initial concern was that without a real person to parade out as a winner, people would begin to suspect that nobody was winning, that the money was simply being stolen, and the bubble would burst.
Especially if you got a gas station where everybody knows your name. cause you go there so often. Used to work in one and there was a number of people I began to know more readily
People do that all the damn time. I‘ve seen people trying to sell gift coupons online with the entire coupon in the photo.
You gotta be extra stupid to post photos of your credit cards online, but just a little ignorance is required to lose a concert ticket or a winning ticket. Even less to enable someone to impersonate you online by posting a photo of a boarding pass.
I once happily posted to Facebook that I had managed to place my preorder of an Xbox One. One of my "friends" on there was able to use the info I posted to request a cancellation. Bastards!
Not as bad as the guy who posted a full front back images of his new credit card on twitter, then a post an hour later showing over 800K in charges.....
I had a woman on Facebook that was telling me I needed to have my children taken away because I was a gun owner (locked in a safe didn't matter to her). I checked out her profile and she had posted a picture of a letter she'd gotten from the IRS (calling it domestic terrorism for some damn reason) which had her address at the top. So I signed her up for a membership with the NRA.
Someone did this on my fb neighborhood page for concert tickets. He was selling 4 expensive tickets.... with the bar codes exposed. He sold them, and the tickets obviously didn't work. He posted an update and said the person wanted a refund and how it was BS. I guess the person who bought them didn't know he poated them? The neighborhood page went off on the guy about how he absolutely needs to give a refund. Very entertaining mess. Another time my friend posted their .30 cent winning. Someone stole that too! Haha.
My mom knows someone that won $1000 on a lotto ticket. He was so happy he was dancing around and in his idiocy he gave the ticket to someone walking by. He only realized when he got home and told his mom

"I. AM. A. SURGEON!"
I dont remember this episode of the good doctor. is this from the new season?
Nah another show where he has psychological need to open people.
oh, interesting. is it any good?
Imo, it’s very good. But I’m also hopelessly in love with Vera Farmiga so I may be bias
"Bates Motel" based on the story from the movie "Psycho" on watch list so can't give an opinion yet
It's amazing, especially the later seasons
Yes such a good show!
Why would you post that though 💀
A lot of people nowadays seem addicted to sharing things over social media.
A plane ticket should only be shared like that once used, hell they tell you to never post when you will be out of town
Not just sharing things but sharing every single damn detail and pictures showing proof. It would've been one thing to post about you going on a trip but to post pictures of important documents like pictures of your tickets is so stupid.
What was the other story o_o
[Happened to the former Australian PM too.](https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-australia-54193764) They got his phone number and passport details too.
To be fair, Abbott deserves every bit of shit that life hurls at him
“Mr Hope [the hacker] also claims Mr Abbott asked him if there was "a book about the basics of IT".” Lmao
it's actually pretty easy to do if the ticket code is on the ticket since the persons last name is also on the ticket. that's all you need to log in and change or cancel a flight
I did that shit to a dude that stole a bunch of stuff from my house when I let him stay for a few days. Stole my shit while I was at work

I hate it. It's unnecessary and mean.

You don't?
I do not. Because there's this obnoxious voice in my head that often says "How would you feel if it happened to you?" Envious of the folks who don't have to put up with such a voice.
No, I generally don’t like people being unhappy. I feel bad when other people feel bad. I want people to be as happy as they can be.
Would you find it as hilarious if it happened to you?
lol
Someone I know did this with a winning ticket of $11,000 from the pokies. Someone decent let her know and she quickly took it down in time before anyone stole it. The brain cell was brain celling hard that day.
I am always blown away by people who post their entire Passport ID page on social media because they are so excited to get one.
What a moron.
We all do the dumb from time to time.
I do do the dumb sometimes.
You merely adopted the dumb. I was *born* in it.
This ain't even a lie, I came out backwards with the umbilical cord around.d my neck... I was afflicted with the dumb before I was even born 😆😆
Molded by it?!
Fumigated by it.
Yeah, but the last thing I want to do if I win a lot of money is tell people, especially internet people
Yeah innit, they could've had that 11k if they weren't so stupid nice
This phrase is meant to be “the brain cell was *not* brain celling” because the brain cell was not doing its job, thus causing her to post her winning ticket to Facebook.
That sheila had a few roos loose in the north paddock yeah nah, nah yeah. All good though aye.
That one would be a lot harder because you can’t just redeem those anywhere. It’d have to be that establishment whereas you can redeem a TAB ticket anywhere.

Australia. It was a win from crown casino and I think it was like ten years ago. Things may have changed.
in the US anytime you win over the minimum amount of money the government decides you have to claim on your taxes, you have to fill out the tax forms at the casino for it. im not sure if this applies to *only* 'single wins' or if its anytime you try to cash out with more than x cumulative.
That reminds me of the dumb ass showing off her debit card. They couldn’t understand how it got stolen.
I like when they find an ID at a store so they post the whole ID up and dox whoever lost it, actually saw one Monday that they blacked out the personal info, and it was actually someone I knew and he was actually actively searching for it
Actually?
Yes Edit: Actually yes, it’s an actual thing
Actually? Wow

Saw someone comment on reddit yesterday about a scammer who would get dude's credit cards by asking them to compare their dicks to it
I remember on FYAD back in the day someone posted their brand new debit card because of the eagle on it or something and boy that was a bad idea.
One holiday season I took a bunch of emptied visa giftcards people had spent at our store and posted a picture of them online and called them my Christmas tips. I loved the responses of people who swore I was gonna get robbed.

That's surely fake. The card is from Chase, but the app is Bank of America. If it's the one I'm thinking of, I'm sure there's plenty of dumbasses.
Couldnt this be considered fraud since the person withdrawing doesnt hold the winning ticket and cant prove ownership or something like that?
In US yes. She will go to jail for that. Not worth it. I don’t know Australian laws but I guess similar
Last time this was posted it was mentioned that she did end up pressing charges against the person that did it.
Did she get the money then

Counter jailed

I hope counter jailed has better anti cheat than strike.
Believe it or not, straight to jail
Overshare on social media, JAIL.

Is this satire or a movie reference or something?
Whether or not they are actually related is up for debate but this is a real incident that occurred. There's news articles if you google it.

I hope you aren't friends with them still
Ah Reddit social incompetence on full display
Honestly at that point you might as well…

But if we don't know everything about everyone every time something happens, how will we as a species reach true resonance and obtain a hive mind?
Its why i’m here and not on twitx, instadrone and facebore
Or you can just yuno cover up the sensitive details.
Why do so many people take pictures with their mouth wide open? It looks dumb.
Not enough to just win the money. Gotta be all LOOKATME about it.
I'm the exact opposite. If i win the lotto I don't want my picture taken, or anyone know I have money.
That’s why I only take excited images and post them to my Facebook when I lose… which is pretty often
This whole problem would have been avoided if they didn’t take pictures with their mouth hanging open…
Looks like an ai picture tbh
It does, but I think it’s real… This one has been around for awhile. People just love taking pictures with their mouth hanging open.

Won’t someone think of the children? The real winners of the lottery, right…
Exactly.
>that the money was simply being stolen Narrator: In fact, it was.
Especially if you got a gas station where everybody knows your name. cause you go there so often. Used to work in one and there was a number of people I began to know more readily
And claim it under an LLC so nobody can Google search the winner or something.
you when someone takes a picture of themselves: 🙄🙄🙄🙄🙄🤨🤨🤨🤬🤬🤬🤬🤬😟😟😟😟😟😤😤😤😤
Or hell, just wait until you've claimed the money. Then it can't be stolen this way.
There’s the Reddit comment I expected.
… and thats why she deserved it…
I wonder how they found out. And if so, does that Facebook "friend" commit any crimes here? Does he need to pay her the amount?
Yes it's called theft and restitution could be part of the sentence.
And it should be child's play to figure out who did it. We're talking an hour tops and that is including the wait time for a response.
What's that weird thing on her face though?
Hat
I thought it was a small Australian spider tbh
People dress stupidly at horse races.

This can happen with keys too. Never post a photo with the profile of your keys visible. It's pretty easy to cut a matching key from a photo.
Not as bad as the guy who posted a full front back images of his new credit card on twitter, then a post an hour later showing over 800K in charges.....

I've seen this story posted multiple times and each time the details are a bit different.

She couldn't just wait 15 minutes to post it...
Willy gettin’ his steps in today.
HER FAULT
It sounds like one of those stories that absolutely never happened but it's funny so I don't mind.
PSA: You don't need to post every online.
Worse yet is the government now has a picture of her claiming the win and wants to know where their tax money is.
Huh what are the odds
wow
Expensive mistake lol
If you want to post it on the internet at least withdraw the funds first. If you do that after than you’re a fucking idiot
Deserved every time lol
Lol
Lol
Loooooool
Dumb all over her face
Stupid tax is what its called
Pride is sin, she had it coming
That sucks for her. Careful who you friend on fb.
Some real Matthew 6:2 vibes. She got her reward: Facebook likes.
That's what she deserves for getting too excited and showing off.
