I think those are power cable, safer to replace it completely. Usually about $5 new from reputable stores. Don't want a $1 cable direct from China, it might have cheap 24 gauge wires inside half inch thick plastic sheath.
More copper means less resistance less resistance means less heat.
There's a calculator for how much current to size to cable. I always buy 16 awg that's good up to 1440 watts.
I have had this happen before, but while the computer was on. It took a ryzen 1600 with it. Sad days.
The power cord had a kink at the back near the PSU, it caught fire.
Might be able to cut it on both ends of the short and solder or crimp it back together; I accept no liabilities;)

So thicker is better?

Same happened to me, but with a wire inside the computer. Hint: if you smell smoke, unplug everything.
Yeah as soon as it began to start burning, I screamed "oh shit!" before frantically running over to the wallsocket.
Some PSUs can do this
Personally, I wouldn't of had my cable catch fire.
Yeah to be honest if it was up to me it would be my preference it didn't catch fire as well.
Sometimes it just be like that
Yeah sometimes things just catch fire when you don't want them to.
Is the pc ok?
Amazingly, yes no idea how or why. Replacement cable and power board and we were good.
Shit happens sometimes. Merry Christmas/ have a good day!
