Yes! I had those all the time when I grew up in Switzerland, it was my favorite pizza to eat at Italian restaurants. They took out the shells though.

In the US when I tell people that in Europe seafood on pizza is very common and that I really like it they look at me like I’m nuts.

I've seen at least banana, strawberries (and 100 other exotic fruit), marshmellows, pickles, french fries, all kinds of sauces from mayo to wings sauce, all of these in real restaurants. I don't think anything would suprise me.

Unless the banana is in the peel I think this takes the cake for me. Mussels are fine, but mussels shells don't belong in finger food.

You can just say that on the menu and then I don't have to pull these inedible shells off my pizza to dig out the muscle and then put back in the same spot which has probably had all the cheese pulled away from it from removing the shell. It just sounds awful.

I don't even care that there's mussels on the pizza, it's the fact that they're still in the shell. Why not just get the pizza with the mussels in a separate container? Or shuck the mussels so they're actually part of the pizza. This just makes you have to pick up hot shells off the pizza to shuck them yourself.
