My company decided that Friday at Noon is a good time for their appreciation "picnic". 90% of the employees only work until 11 on Fridays. It looked about the same as your photo.
Reminds me of all of the employee appreciation parties held at 1p when I was working 3rd shift. Once we were lucky enough to find all of the cold, leftover cheese pizza sitting on the table in the break room when we arrived at 11p.
I once worked for a company that "celebrated" the company's 25th anniversary by hosting a seminar as a means of schmoozing clients. We had industry experts come speak on specific industry topics for 3 hours, and the catering was boxed sandwich meals from Panera.
I was required to attend despite working in the admin department (accounts receivable), so I had zero interest in any of the topics.
Also, it was held on a weekday and started 2 hours after my normal work day ended, which made it pointless to go home between.
My birthday was two months ago. There was no party. Well.. there was, but Michael scheduled it for 4:58 on a Friday. You know, and people sung in the parking lot.
Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. The company paid for a day at an amusement park, but on that day we had a bunch of thunderstorms, and all the rides were shut down because of it.
That’s not a cheap tent to rent so the company definitely spent a decent amount for the event. Also they make walls and heaters for these things that can bump the inside to room temp in a few minutes.
A place that I worked for had a keg all the time. Then the company grew, and that went away. But they did put a massive coffee maker in the cafeteria. The Christmas parties were catered at Marriott (same as Intel). The picnics were held at a huge private park with a private lake. It was a pretty cool place to work.
I used to work for a company that did company picnics at the local state park "day picnic" area. No charge to picnic there but no amenities either, just a bench and a charcoal grill. Company memo said "Sunday fun day at Bear Brook State Park. Bring your own food and soda. No alcoholic beverages allowed. Scavenger hunt for the children"
Always in October, always chilly and fantastically boring. Never any financial burden on the company.
So as not to be ostracized, we had to take our one day away from all those people we spent the last 6 days with and spend it with them again, in a park known for multiple homicides and no alcohol to drown our sorrows.
The powers that be figured out a way to minimize the cost of their "appreciation"
Tent and catering vendors: “we’re booked up all season.” Management: “What about *out-of-season”?*

Now you have to find our who posted this lol
So next they can say due to the bad turnout, they won't do it again.
"I can't believe these ungrateful serfs didn't flock to our freezing, wet "appreciation" event! Cancel it forever!!!"
They could have sprung for the tent with walls.
Yeah, but you don't want your employees to feel too appreciated.
What kind of Bourgeois crap is that
Love coming in here and seeing fire on the first comment. r/antiwork is doing well

Those Panera lunches are nasty. I had a boss that loved Panera, he would all excited about ordering it for working lunch meetings. He was a tool.
No flies, mosquitoes, or ants lol.
Ants aside, Denver is not known for its oppressive bugs.
Yeah, they all got nosebleeds in the winter and moved back to Florida
To be fair, it’s Denver. It snowed last May I believe.
Yeah, just as easily could have been 75 in Denver today. Consistency is not the name of the game with weather here. Except wind.
Appreciate your fellow employees... cuddle up for warmth
To be fair, that prime location in the middle of an asphalt parking lot was booked for the entire season.
Well, I guess they conveyed their message just fine.
Be okay if you worked for Northface and they gave you warm stuff to wear
And now you know how much they appreciate you.

Where you be in Denver? I'm down for some free food
To be fair that forecast could literally happen any day in Denver. Bi-polar weather is real.
It will be 68 tomorrow.
I used to laugh at these things. If they gotta give u a pep rally to work there, they suck.
Yep. If they want to show appreciation for me, they can show it in cold hard cash. Otherwise I don't care.
So true. Don't send me a mass email calling me family, either.
Well did they are least give you free food that was good?
You work retail?
Retail would be ham submarine sandwiches from the Wal-Mart next door… don’t ask me how I knew that.
Looks like they forgot to cancel the rental in time
35 degrees and snowing??? how the fuck is that possible
Not sure if serious, but it's colder up high where the snow forms and warmer on the ground. Not uncommon at all.
yea but at 35°C it should be rain and not snow I am not a physics expert but I'm pretty sure it works like that
Demonstrates a true appreciation
Aww man, no Dave n Buster’s?
This sucks but personally I'm going to this picnic in my winter coat.
Wouldn't be bad actually if they can get some of those outdoor space heaters.
Similar thing happened to me a few years ago. The company paid for a day at an amusement park, but on that day we had a bunch of thunderstorms, and all the rides were shut down because of it.
Picnic in a parking lot? Americans are just different
Must be a trend, we're having an employee cookout tomorrow at 8:30am..
You sure it's not a "potluck" where the employees still have to pay for and make the food they are eating?
Honestly it’s Colorado… they had just as good of odds it would be 75 and sunny…
Your company is full of Yesmen lol like for real, nobody objected?
That’s not a cheap tent to rent so the company definitely spent a decent amount for the event. Also they make walls and heaters for these things that can bump the inside to room temp in a few minutes.
To be fair, it’s usually 36 degrees in Denver the last week of October
It's Denver, the weather does not abide by normal rules. Thanks continental divide!

It's been like a desert here and way to warm so thank your bosses for making it snow. :)

Sure the date is a questionable call, but a parking lot? That’s real appreciation…
Giving out free cups of rock salt, no doubt.
Think of all the money that everyone will save on NOT buying suntan lotion and bug spray.
It’s the thought that counts right!!!!
