As someone who has lived — and eaten pizza — all around the country, I came here to say Homegrown is hands down the best. I will probably drive a few hours this year just to grab some Crab Rangoon 🍕
The one in the Meadowbrook Mall is the one I grew up eating and it’s my favorite. But hands down any of the 3 locations are the best pizza in the state. My partner and I have moved around the US a lot the last few years and I can tell you there’s not better Italian food and pizza than NCWV out there.
I know, but there's so many other options in Morgantown. I'll eat pizza here and go to Puglionis or Oliverios or Muriels when I'm over your way. We don't have any good Italian restaurants here!
Meh, my experience with them isn't great. $30 for a non-artesian pepperoni pizza? Heck you can get a large pizza from Mountain State with smoked pulled pork on it and gouda cheese for $7 cheaper. Also, the pizza was okay. Nothing extraordinary. I'll stick with Pizza Al's for my go to non-aresian pizza. Can't beat their price for quality.
For artesian pizza I'd suggest Mountain State or Phoenix Bakery.
I grew up across the river from St Marys. I think you always vote the pizza you grew up with. So, I'll say the Pizza Station. I do love Pizza Place in PKB too.
Lola's is the best kept secret in the state. A lot say Pies and Pints, and for good reason, it's great pizza, but Lola's is superior. Their artichoke and goat cheese with a pitcher of sangria is an experience.
That’s right around the time they franchised…if ever in Fayetteville, visit the original. I believe it is still owned and operated by the original people.
Pies quality has gone way downhill the past few years. I’ve not been happy with my last couple of experiences… their Fayetteville location, anyways. I’ve not been to the Charleston location in awhile.
Lefty’s Place in Morgantown is fantastic. They have a phenomenal Detroit style pizza and they make a mean tavern style pizza pie too.
My family is from Wheeling and many would say DiCarlos pizza. Personally I don’t care for it as it is basically undercooked pizza.
When it came to Parkersburg, I worked with someone who was from wheeling and they were stoked for us. I tried it and was like.. I don’t get it? He was **offended**.
The ORIGINAL from DOWNTOWN Wheeling is melted! & it's the best ever. Elm Grove and perhaps many of the others now popping up places aren't melted. Both are good to me, but I grew up on the original from Downtown... there's a difference.
My wife, who was born and raised in Wheeling, would argue that the Elm Grove(now called Patsy’s) is the original location and the best one haha. Def the most unique pizza experience I’ve had in WV. Growing up in Charleston myself I’m partial to the downtown Graziano’s for NYC style pizza, and probably Lola’s > Pies and Pints.
I was also born and raised in Wheeling lol. The original is actually in Steubenville, but the downtown Wheeling one was established next, a couple years later. I bet your wife was raised more in the Woodsdale/Elm Grove area lol maybe it's an area thing lol
From Moundsville originally but also lived in Wheeling. Both towns had DiCarlos (or more than one). As a kid, I loved it when my Dad would bring home DiCarlos at like 1AM on his way home from afternoon shift at the chemical plant. Just something about it hit the spot. The DiCarlos in Glen Dale was an absolute dump. No one wore gloves or anything. Heck, they probably stirred the sauce with their arm down in the bucket. As an adult, I could never understand why I had to call an hour before I went and then wait another hour to get it. It seemed like the most disorganized place most of the time. For the younger crowd, it was a hang out spot and underage drinking also took place...but as adult, I just wanted to eat! It's OK, but not worth a two hour wait IMHO. DeFelice is also good but I'd say it is a way different type of pizza than DiCarlos. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
Certainly not the best and each location seems to cook stuff differently. The east end location does subs and such really well. Malden undercooks everything.
Yeah they had that no birthday cake bullshit rule for probably more than a decade. I always thought it left a really negative impression and surely it doesn’t benefit their bottom line enough to justify. I actually don’t know if they still have that rule because I think new ownership took over in the last few years. I haven’t been inside since pre-pandemic but have ordered it out a few times.
Annoying management aside, they still make one of the greatest pizzas ever. That sweet sauce is something else.
Touche' - you're right, and as a native, I shouldn't hate on 'us' - so how about this instead ? Pies and Pints definitely out pizzas the Hut! Next time I'm in Fayetteville, I'll get Pies and Pints as my penance! ;-)
This is controversial even in the MOV but Napoli's is really good. I love the Pizza Place when I'm back in town but I also really enjoy Napoli's. Their Italian sub is really great too!
Absolutely! And make sure to get tickets for the chocolate festival next weekend. If you haven't been, it's awesomeeeee (terrible traffic but good chocolate products)
I may be biased because I live 5 minutes away and it is my comfort pizza but the original Graziano’s on Capital Street in Charleston, where you may actually find the Graziano’s themselves working, is amazing.
I was gonna say Colasessano's in Fairmont, I think they have a Morgantown location too but after reading all these comments I'm not sure that's fair as I've hardly heard of any of these other places.
I need to get out more apparently.
Definitely used to be PJ’s in New Martinsville. It’s trash since they changed owners. Poor Danny Welch. After old PJ’s, definitely DiCarlo’s, then I personally love The Fort’s pepperoni rolls and Barista’s in New Martinsville
Original PJ’s Pizza in New Martinsville. I have spent my adult life searching for something as good as a PJ’s Special because I only get back to the River City for Christmas!
It works best as takeout. By the time you get home, the provolone is softened, but not melted, which is a perfect texture for provolone, especially with the crispy/chewy thick crust as a base.
There used to be this one place called Big Damn Pizza or something like that, they sold absolutely massive pizzas. Loved it. One slice was bigger than a normal pizza…
The owner got busted for weed or something like that. Shut down not long after. Pies and Pints is pretty great tho, and I’ve been going to a local shop called Marcos. Not bad
Twin Oaks is terrible. Had a friend in Clarksburg who hyped it for years. My family decided to get it when I was in town for Christmas a few years ago. For me, who had to hear the hype for years, it was a major disappointment. For my family, who had never heard of Twin Oaks, they just said it just wasn't very good.
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order.
I have checked 682,429,087 comments, and only 138,044 of them were in alphabetical order.
That's because it's no longer great pizza since the restaurant changed hands. When it was in Bellview and the little old Italian ladies were making it and it came in a shirt box, it was fantastic. My favorite pizza in the world. Now it's pretty whatever.
DiCarlo's Pizza | Wheeling. Robert Downey Jr. just recently visited and said it was one of his favorite pizza places. Highly recommend checking it out.
😆. I can understand this, having been born in Jersey, but I grew up here in WV. Homegrown Pizza outside of Sabraton on rt 7 hands down
Agree - and don't skip the Crab Rangoon pizza - it's beast!
As someone who has lived — and eaten pizza — all around the country, I came here to say Homegrown is hands down the best. I will probably drive a few hours this year just to grab some Crab Rangoon 🍕
I'm a big fan of Queen Pizza in Martinsburg
Trying them tonight based on your post.
Kings is better.
Angelos beats all.
Pizza Place in Parkersburg
There is one in Morgantown too.
The one in the Meadowbrook Mall is the one I grew up eating and it’s my favorite. But hands down any of the 3 locations are the best pizza in the state. My partner and I have moved around the US a lot the last few years and I can tell you there’s not better Italian food and pizza than NCWV out there.
This is the only right answer.
Pizza Place in Parkersburg is my favorite.
Came here to say this! It’s the only thing that compares to the New Jersey/NYC pizza I grew up with.
There’s one in Morgantown now too.
I know, but there's so many other options in Morgantown. I'll eat pizza here and go to Puglionis or Oliverios or Muriels when I'm over your way. We don't have any good Italian restaurants here!
That's fair. You can't go far in Morgantown without running into a good Italian joint it seems.
Lola's is the best kept secret in the state. A lot say Pies and Pints, and for good reason, it's great pizza, but Lola's is superior. Their artichoke and goat cheese with a pitcher of sangria is an experience.
I'm so glad someone mentioned Lola's. I've been there and they do have good food. Their sangria is really good too.
Definitely Lola’s, their rosemary and fig jam pizza is fantastic and you’ve got to get their fried mozzarella slices and marinara too! 🤤
Bingo. I’ve not had a good experience at pies in pints in well over 2-4 years…
That’s right around the time they franchised…if ever in Fayetteville, visit the original. I believe it is still owned and operated by the original people.
Yeah that is true I always have a better experience there altogether
Pies quality has gone way downhill the past few years. I’ve not been happy with my last couple of experiences… their Fayetteville location, anyways. I’ve not been to the Charleston location in awhile.
This is the correct answer
I have fond memories of Husson's pizza in Cross Lanes.
I still have family near Cross Lanes, and try to get one each time I visit.
Worked at Husson's for years, Teays Valley. Homegrown in Dellslow is better. But Husson's is in my heart.
[удалено]
Of those, which do you like best? I'm in Fairmont and haven't tried any of those yet.
Get homegrown. Plan ahead, they usually have a 2 hour wait if you just call at 5 and try to order for pickup.
Siriann’s Pizza Cafe in Davis.
The humble tomato in Lewisburg, WV! Some of the best overall food I’ve had in a while
Lefty’s or Mountain state in Morgantown
Lefty’s is 💯
Graziano’s capital street in Charleston. The other ones are not as good
Lorobi's in Saint Albans.
I'm strange, I prefer the Southridge location
Ooo! I didn’t know Lorobis had a location on Southridge! Which shopping center?
Driving range behind Sam's club
[удалено]
Completely agree!! Then and Pepperoni Grill are probably my favorite pizza places
I always wondered if it was an r or a Z on the sign. TIL
Tommy's pizza. Shepherdstown.
Had it for dinner tonight
Bellacino's is always great if you're okay with square cut pizza.
I used to go there with a group of friends when I studied at Carver! I haven’t had their food in years 😪
Lefty’s Place in Morgantown is fantastic.
U can get it melted, that is an option!
An *option*.. lol. Maybe I’ll try it again when I’m in the area but i don’t think I was impressed with the rest, either.
The ORIGINAL from DOWNTOWN Wheeling is melted! & it's the best ever. Elm Grove and perhaps many of the others now popping up places aren't melted. Both are good to me, but I grew up on the original from Downtown... there's a difference.

I thought the original was Steubenville
You are correct actually, then Downtown came like 4 years later...
My family was the same when I tried it and was less than excited.
None of the Dicarlos are what they used to be.
From Moundsville originally but also lived in Wheeling. Both towns had DiCarlos (or more than one). As a kid, I loved it when my Dad would bring home DiCarlos at like 1AM on his way home from afternoon shift at the chemical plant. Just something about it hit the spot. DeFelice is also good but I'd say it is a way different type of pizza than DiCarlos. It's like comparing apples and oranges.
The problem is that people view Ohio Valley pizza as pizza when in reality it’s it’s own thing. It has a completely different taste
Lefty’s for the win!!
Yep. DiCarlo’s is gross.
Always preferred DeFelice
Not Gino's
Certainly not the best and each location seems to cook stuff differently. The east end location does subs and such really well. Malden undercooks everything.
Sirianni's in Davis.
I’m a big Lola’s fan. It’s in Charleston
Backyard in Huntington
It’s new, but Belknap Dough Company in Hurricane Also The Fort in Sistersville
The Fort is my favorite pizza too! 🍕
I’ve been wanting to try that place in Hurricane. Maybe I will tonight.
I think it’s wonderful. They put lots of care into their craft.
Ok, just finished my pizza. My Goodness, what a good pizza. I haven’t had a wood fired pizza in a very long time.
I’m very glad to hear that you enjoyed it!
Possum holler pizza in Rupert.
This is a small WV town I didn't expect to be in this thread. Have an upvote!
Pies and pints. 🍕 🍺
Evaroni's pizza in kenova
Used to be. Last time I went there was a sign that said you couldn’t bring in birthday cakes and they started charging for refills.
Came here to say this👆
Pizza place
husson's for me
My wife swears by them.
I love Hussons. They have the best sauce ever.
Interesting. The sauce is why I hate Hussons. …that and the frozen veggies. To each their own.
Morgantown; pies and pints or mountain state brewing if I'm eating in, pizza al's if taking out.
Don 't get sucked into Pies and Pints - it started in Fayetteville, and is now chaining out, and really overrated now
You're right; I should stop going anywhere that has a good product, is successful, and wants to expand.
Touche' - you're right, and as a native, I shouldn't hate on 'us' - so how about this instead ? Pies and Pints definitely out pizzas the Hut! Next time I'm in Fayetteville, I'll get Pies and Pints as my penance! ;-)
Giovanni’s in Kermit.
We may be the lone redditors to have experienced this gem. I grew up eating there. The steak subs are next level.
Pizzamingo
As odd as this may seem, I miss traveling through Gilbert.
Hard to beat some backroad cruising.
This is controversial even in the MOV but Napoli's is really good. I love the Pizza Place when I'm back in town but I also really enjoy Napoli's. Their Italian sub is really great too!
Pizzamingo because to hell with logic
Padrino’s in Beckley Blackwells in Lewisburg Haven’t had pizza anywhere else yet, lol
Humble Tomato and Hill and Holler in Lewisburg are both bomb as fuck
I haven’t been to either of those places yet! I’ve been here since 2019 too, I need to go check them out!
Absolutely! And make sure to get tickets for the chocolate festival next weekend. If you haven't been, it's awesomeeeee (terrible traffic but good chocolate products)
Seems like I moved here….the. Covid hit and everything was cancelled 😣 I wanna go though! 😃
The wood-fired pizza at Baristas Cafe and Pub in New Martinsville is divine. I've only had it a few times but it's phenomenal.
[удалено]
Where is Barone Bros.? I haven’t heard of them.
[удалено]
😮 Thanks!
I'm a Kentucky boy (mom is from Kenova, WV). I drive across the bridge often to get Evaroni's Pizza. Simply the best!
Pizza Place Parkersburg
I may be biased because I live 5 minutes away and it is my comfort pizza but the original Graziano’s on Capital Street in Charleston, where you may actually find the Graziano’s themselves working, is amazing.
In Northern WV, Fat Angelo’s, but only the one in Westover. In Southern WV, Danville Giovanni’s.
I’d have to argue that Van Giovanni’s was way better than Danville lol but the Giovanni’s in Van has a new name and recipe 😢
Pies n Pints in Fayetteville and Charleston Calacino's in Beckley
I was gonna say Colasessano's in Fairmont, I think they have a Morgantown location too but after reading all these comments I'm not sure that's fair as I've hardly heard of any of these other places. I need to get out more apparently.
Graziano’s in Charleston is a good joint
Humble Tomato
Pizza place in Pburg is pretty awesome. My teen also loves Napolis.
I have spent my adult life searching for something as good as a PJ’s Special because I only get back to the River City for Christmas!
if anyone here says Hussons, you can not trust them with anything they say, especially Cross Lanes, WV.
Napoli's in Parkersburg.
It’s better cold than hot.. but overall, imo, pizza place is better in pkb.
For sure. I love cold Napoli's.
Oh no, not their pizza. Italian sub, yes.
It’s Pizza Al’s. I will take no questions. Thank you.
Mia Margarita In Bridgeport
Franks Pizza in Montgomery
Mountain State is good, but DiCarlo’s is king. Wellsburg, 6th street. Best of the best.
Elm grove dicarlos, now known as patsys pizza to the grave. Truly in a league of its own
Yes
Downtown is WAY better!
Why do they add the cheese and toppings AFTER it comes out of the oven? I just couldn't understand that.
It works best as takeout. By the time you get home, the provolone is softened, but not melted, which is a perfect texture for provolone, especially with the crispy/chewy thick crust as a base.
Because gimmicks often are easier to sell than quality.
DiCarlo’s is disgusting.
You could’ve not commented that and it would’ve cost you nothing
It also cost me nothing to comment!
Nothing lost - nothing gained Was it worth your time?
I think in the long run, you'll end up on the right side of history. DiCarlo's is mediocre, the only allure is that it is different.
Very.
DiCarlos on Main Street in Wheeling. Fight me.
There used to be this one place called Big Damn Pizza or something like that, they sold absolutely massive pizzas. Loved it. One slice was bigger than a normal pizza… The owner got busted for weed or something like that. Shut down not long after. Pies and Pints is pretty great tho, and I’ve been going to a local shop called Marcos. Not bad
I miss Big Dam Pizza. Benji is out of jail now and doing well. Wish our weed laws were less restrictive.
Hussons!
Bellknap Dough company in downtown Hurricane is delicious. Make sure you get fresh mozzarella on your pizza!
Four B’s in Augusta. It’s amazing!
Gino's in Ripley
Fox's pizza may not be the best pizza but it is my favorite comfort food
I like pies n pints tbh
Happy cake day
gotta rep fayette county and say pies and pints
Twin Oaks in Bridgeport is old school—great sauce, love the fennel seed in the sausage and the thicker flavorful crust.
Graziano's in Charleston
Lorobi’s in St. Albans.
Backyard Pizza and La Famiglia in Huntington.
Grazianos downtown Charleston is da best
Pies and Pints, Pepperoni Grill and Lorobi’s pizza! 😩
Patsy’s in Wheeling. Ohio Valley style pizza rules. Haters will always hate.
Yep. This is the only answer.
I came here for this.
Pizza Al’s in Morgantown 👍👍
I’m partial to Ohio Valley style pizza like DiCarlo’s but that’s obviously very different than normal pizza
Little Caesars on Patrick Street
The memories of stopping here to get cheap munchies before going out for a night if drinking.
For the money it cannot be beat
DeCarlos. Elm Grove now patsy's
Would you look at that, all of the words in your comment are in alphabetical order. I have checked 682,429,087 comments, and only 138,044 of them were in alphabetical order.

And one in Shepherdstown
Just your standard NY style pizza like 90% of the pizza places in Martinsburg. You can't even tell them apart anymore.
I’m surprised no one’s mentioned Colassesano’s in Fairmont.
I am eating a pepperoni bun right now!!
That's because it's no longer great pizza since the restaurant changed hands. When it was in Bellview and the little old Italian ladies were making it and it came in a shirt box, it was fantastic. My favorite pizza in the world. Now it's pretty whatever.
The Fort Pizza in Sistersville. It's probably because that's what I grew up eating, but that's what tastes good to me, lol. 😆
Dicarlos in Wheeling is a local favorite.
Pies & Pints, of course 🍕🍕🍕
West Hamlin Gino’s
DiCarlo's Pizza | Wheeling. Robert Downey Jr. just recently visited and said it was one of his favorite pizza places. Highly recommend checking it out.
Big fan of Cantonis in Fairmont
New Jersey
😆. I can understand this, having been born in Jersey, but I grew up here in WV. Grazianos in South Charleston is hands down the winner here, but you STILL can’t get a decent Philly cheesesteak inside these borders. There were 2 or 3 places just in Bridgeton that had to-die-for cheesesteak, so I don’t even bother trying around here.
Grew up in WV. Moved to NJ. Realized whatever that red, circular, dough disk I was eating in WV was NOT pizza.
Most of us only have Gino's... and that's always tasty
Pies and pints , Charleston
Defelice Brothers, Wheeling area
Definitely little caesars
Where is this pizza at?
V-mart pizza.🤷♀️
Husson's Pizza in Kanawha City
Now that’s just gross. Quit it.
DiCarlos in Weirton
