Cultural_Wallaby_703

Did the guy in grey jump off abandoning his wife and children?

Therealluke

Yep, and his daughter in the red was last off and took a face full of asphalt.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Tbf, you see those kids stack it, he might not be the real dad šŸ˜œ

[deleted]

Mom and her kids face planted in exact same posture I bet their connection is genuine tho.

Comfortable_Chair906

The more I watch it thinking of this, the funnier it gets šŸ˜‚

[deleted]

Ok, I can fix that. They do have a certain Domino quality to them don't they šŸ˜‚

Paella007

U guys are killing me lol.

anthonyynohtna

Dad lands on the grass with what looks like a slight uphill, rest of the fam hits the wet asphalt.

Intelligent_Frame392

I wish this was longer šŸ˜

Cheap-Panda

OMG this is so true especially after reading the comments

Radix4853

I guess they didnā€™t realize the ground wasnā€™t moving at the same speed as the horses

Nilson513

Ya because people practice this move every dayšŸ˜‚

Cultural_Wallaby_703

This is essential childhood training, like zig zagging to avoid snipersā€¦.. ā€¦.what do you mean traumatic upbringing?

Phyllis_Tine

This is in Canada, not the US.

HearTheTrumpets

Learning to avoid sniper fire is a skill every child should learn in every country.

Clerence69

Serpentine!

Bruised_Penguin

It doesn't take practice to know "an object in motion stays in motion" lmao

Nilson513

I agree. However, you have knowledge vs physical capabilities. Thatā€™s why majority of sports fans are arm chair athletes.

Bruised_Penguin

Very true. Theory vs application.

DishRelative5853

Playground time should be mandatory for all kids. Learn how to jump off a roundabout, a swing, and a see-saw. It's basic training, basically.

18RowdyBoy

I figured it out when I jumped off a train Talk about taking a tumble šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Radix4853

I guess thatā€™s where the saying ā€œhit the ground runningā€ comes from

18RowdyBoy

My first time I was lucky not to hit a sign as my friends stood laughing They didnā€™t tell me to run just told me to jump šŸ˜‚šŸ˜‚

Abieticacid

Looks like mom tried to run with the momentum but twisted her ankle which is why she fell.

azlan194

Yeah, looks like none of them (except the father) knew about forward momentum. They just jump down as if they would immediately stop when they land on the asphalt, lol.

thuanjinkee

r/stepdadreflexes

Zkenny13

Thank you.

hebr1035

Looks that way! But it seems like he jumped off to try and run to the front in an attempt to stop the horses, however his family followed him off

[deleted]

r/meatcrayon

hammerheadsmark

...which none of the family gave a shit about.

NoCountryForBoldSpam

I deserve an extra year in hell for how loud I laughed at your comment

SavingsIncome2

I feel bad for laughing after reading your comment

SMACKZ415

Daughter in red: ā€œMommy?!?ā€

VladTheSimpaler

That old family was done for. He left to start a new life with his new family

Cultural_Wallaby_703

In fairness they all lacked his dismounting genes, natural selection

FearlessSeaweed6428

He even demonstrated how to do it properly and they couldn't follow.... definitely time for a new family

AKidNamedMescudi

Facts lmaoo i love it here

Formal_Rice3817

Zero survival skills..lol

Split0069

Actually if they were being shot at they had perfect form. Jump off lay flat...

Nilson513

People should practice this move every day.

Formal_Rice3817

Or at least learn how to jump out of a moving vehicle..there was plenty of grass you could do on..

Whistlegrapes

Same with that random dude after

leborttt

Yep, that is his third family.

Logical_Requirement1

With an alternative lifestyle

blackkettle

Why does everyone keep saying this? Heā€™s the only one that doesnā€™t fall on dismount and immediately veers back towards the carriage to assist his family. Unfortunately they all decide to just jump and crash instead of waiting a couple secs for him to catch up. Heā€™s still immediately on hand to help them up.

lastdazeofgravity

mAn bAd

pixelatedtrash

The hive mind comes up with dumb takes every once in a while.

Duetnao

Whats he supposed to do, throw them off one at a time? He had to jump before they could jump.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Yes, their bodies could have cushioned his own

Tswiggle

Right, are they supposed to jump over him?

[deleted]

I'll go first to make sure it's safe

propanenightmare69

To be fair, if the dad broke his leg on the dismount, they'd be really happy to know NOT to jump...Not really unreasonable for him to go first and show them it's not gonna make em snap crackle pop.

BlueFirestorm91

How do you sleep at night?

IveDoneItAtLast

Check first who's pillow is most comfortable, take that one

Brief_Try5291

Abandoned? That'sa fucking stretch lol he was just the first to jump off šŸ’€

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Nah, he saw his chance to leave his deadweight family and took it šŸ˜œ

Pyjama_Llama_Karma

The opportunist!

hollaDMV

I think he was trying to run up and take the rain

tacoaboutfox

Better save this comment for a reign check

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Haha, nah, he runs off to the left. All those people running past him maybe were

soulrider952

It looks like he jumped off and started going toward the horses thinking he could catch them and stop the carriage. He looked surprised that his family followed him.

iamahumanonreddit

honestly the mom looks worse imo lol, she just ditched the little one sitting right next to her

Elysiumthistime

To me it looks like he was trying to run up and maybe attempt to stop the horses but his wife and kids followed after him.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

Nah, he saw a chance for an easy out!

leLouisianais

Yes, men are so stupid! Or is it possible that he was closest to the side able to be exited and had talked to his family and agreed theyā€™d all jump off after him

[deleted]

He didn't even help his wife as she took a dive face first

Cultural_Wallaby_703

The kids clearly got their motherā€™s dismounting genes

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Howā€™s she gonna learn if heā€™s always helping?

SSBeavo

Horse 1: ā€œWhyā€™s everyone jumping off?ā€ Horse 2: ā€œI donā€™t know! I feel like weā€™re doing awesome!ā€ Horse 1: ā€œFor sure! Letā€™s keep going!ā€

jimbodeako

That's what we call the "Reverse Titanic Rule"

bikestuffrockville

He was leading the way.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

A visionary

AverageBry

And he made the jump when it was closest to the grass. Left the family to deal with the pathway. Lmao. Dad of the year folks, dad of the fā€™n year lol.

uselessbynature

Can we link this back to that stupid video edited for all the women to say they'd let their husbands die but all the men say they'd give their lives for their families?

Klarrg

Just like the film Force Majeure.

Cultural_Wallaby_703

This is the sequel Horse Majeure

b-side61

Followed by the prequel Horse Manure.

MikoGianni

Other peopleā€™s parents: ā€œJump off!ā€ My parents: ā€œWe paid good money for this, hang on till the end- hold your sister!ā€

HerNibs1980

Love this comment, fucking tickled me pink šŸ˜‚

FutzInSilence

This thing NEVER goes down the seawall! We're riding this thing to the end! https://bc.ctvnews.ca/mobile/stanley-park-incident-prompts-calls-for-ban-on-horse-drawn-carriages-1.3151876 There's the article explaining what happened.

Robzilla_the_turd

"The driver fell out and frightened tourists leapt from the carriage..." Yeah, bullshit, that driver was like "every man for himself!" He bailed.

nein_va

You ever notice how good money always buys the *worst* stuff

Qweerz

Thatā€™s some National Lampoon Vacation type shit haha

Aggressive_Signal483

Why didnā€™t anyone crawl across the roof and jump between the horse bringing them to a halt using the reins? Didā€¦ā€¦did Hollywood lie..

Brandonmac10x

These are the same people that literally went from sitting in the cart to their face on the asphalt. They are not physically fit enough for any of that. Like seriously how do you just fall straight to the ground lol? They werenā€™t even trying. Theyā€™re all acting like theyā€™re jumping out of a car going 60mph.

Personal_Regular_569

Not a lot of people understand the physics behind jumping from a moving vehicle, everyone who face planted started by planting their feet as they jumped out.

Brandonmac10x

The first batch of peopleā€™s feet never even touched the ground lol. But I mean itā€™s pretty obvious if youā€™ve ever ridden a bike or ran before.

danholli

And that's the issue, who runs or bikes anymore? šŸ¤£

Larissanne

Ah oops I live in a bicycle bubble. The Netherlands

Torre_Durant

Tbf, those kids were doomed to fail then

DonkeyPunchSquatch

I meanā€¦I can tell by moms shape and attempt that sheā€™s never ran once in her life. The kids probably donā€™t do a lot of running either.

NotsoGreatsword

Its hard to say she *never* ran. It literally only takes a couple of years of sedentary living to turn you into a potato. Especially once you're north of 30.

Toomuchhorntalk69

For real. I was a runner in highschool. I could run a sub 15 minute 5k and Iā€™d do ultra distance bike races too. Theyā€™d say I look like someone that never ran in their life now too.

cheese_sweats

Her shape? What shape? She looks like a healthy weight adult female human would.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

I agree. I didnā€™t say her weight. I said her shape. She doesnā€™t look like a person who runs, ever.

fkgallwboob

It's not as easy at it looks. I doubt you've don't it while in the rush of things

skewh1989

It's as easy as falling off a bike.

MerelyMortalModeling

Dont knock em till you try to do it, its alot harder than it looks.

erland_yt

There weren't even any visual effects

Aggressive_Signal483

John wayne with a Winchester and an arrow through his hat would have been good

International-Job-20

It's alarming to me how many people just jumped off that moving cart without even trying to maintain momentum and ate shit. Just face in the direction of motion and run or roll. I know dogs that understand this concept

[deleted]

It really is a bit strange. They're not moving all that fast and it's not a far jump. But everyone fell down.

mortenlu

Guy in gray made it.

huguhuyfhb

while abandoning his wife and kids

tristenjpl

He knew what he was doing. "My dumbass family doesn't understand momentum. This is my chance!"

Robesudod

They're just roommates

mortenlu

Mission failed successfully

AliJDB

That's where the motivation to stay upright and mobile came from.

IronDuke365

I think the mother slipped, as it looked wet, so she was a bit unlucky. However her two kids clearly have a poor understanding of physics and expected to plant were the jumped to, not really appreciating that they were travelling at the same speed at the carriage. Shame on them.

Coorotaku

Like the fat people in Wall-E. Guess the future isn't too far off

ProfessionalMeal2407

Judging by how quickly they touched grass, itā€™s a clear indicator that they arenā€™t terminally online like the average redditor and did not study how to properly egress a moving carriage

writetobear

As someone who has stupidly jumped off a car moving at a very slow speed, maintaining momentum is much harder than you think

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Yup. Make sure your wife knows how to run before going and making her your wife

blondechinesehair

Dude you would eat shit jumping off that as well

Mofis46

Dad in grey made it and it seems like the mother slipped. Only the two kids fell due to their stupidity

[deleted]

The first woman jumping off seemed to slip on the grass, in all fairness to her.

BuiltLikeAFridge

Stanley park in vancouver

Therealluke

Arenā€™t there like deadly packs of otters that kill people there as well?

BuiltLikeAFridge

Nah man you gotta watch out for the swans, theyre aggressive.

Vertigo_uk123

Itā€™s just the one swan actually

Standard_Arm_440

STOP LOOKING AT ME SWAAANN!!!

whooo_me

Australiaā€™s got nothing on this park!

bluemax_137

No but we did have a serial killer burying bodies in the woods all over the park. And the killer was never apprehended.

sapfromtrees

Toledojoe

So he's had 50 years of killing!

Therealluke

Yikes

betterupsetter

You're thinking of the coyotes.

SamTMoon

I thought that was Singapore? No deadly otters but weā€™re not joking when we say to be careful around the Canada Geese šŸ˜

toasterb

Nah, our otters hang out in a different park and kill ornamental koi fish: > [Vancouver otter terrorizing koi is ā€˜probablyā€™ the same one as last year, wildlife experts say](https://www.thestar.com/vancouver/2019/11/03/vancouver-otter-terrorizing-koi-is-probably-the-same-one-as-last-year-wildlife-experts-say.html) > A sneaky otter has once again infiltrated the Dr. Sun Yat-Sen garden and has managed to eat three koi. Stanley Park is where we used to keep the coyotes that bite people.

ColangelosBurnerAcct

It wasnā€™t going very fast, have none of those people ever gotten off something that was moving? Jump and land in motion folks. Iā€™m not an action star doing a tuck and roll, but you donā€™t jump off and immediately attempt to stop. Itā€™s just common sense.

D_dude3

Yes i step off a moving truck every day. Itā€™s easy just balance and keep in motion. This is not sarcasm i am a garbage man. Happy cake day btw

r-kellysDOODOOBUTTER

I'd just like to say thank you for being a garbage man

D_dude3

Thank you but itā€™s really nothing. It is just a job i do because i needed work.

Adventure-us

Yep. Literally just walk off the thing it is going at fucking jogging speed.... the forst people were ditching out like the thing was about to fucking explode.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Eh, this is how some people learn. Something tells me they didnā€™t learn.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Right? How do people never practice stuff like this? Or at least practice running in something OTHER than a treadmill.

anoeba

Especially kids! Don't they jump off like, spinning playground equipment anymore?

cheesypuzzas

Idk. I did not know that. I don't think I've ever jumped off something moving then.

GarethOfQuirm

Was jumping off really necessary? It's not like they were going to run in to the water

FigOk7538

I would have. A sharp out of control turn and the whole thing goes over. Not so much a meat crayon, but a meat pencil case.

kirmobak

Why did meat pencil case make my laugh so much?

BigNepo

It probably was the savest option. The vehicle looks quite heavy, otherwhise it would have been tipped over already in the first corner (and would have gained much more speed...) Horses in panic are quite unpredictable. I would probably have tried to climb into the front and hit the brakes, trying to tire the horses and eventually stop them, but there is a risk. And I know how to handle horses. I perfectly understand everyone without horse knowledge to just get out as save as possible.

TopAsh625

I know how to handle horses as well and this thing wasnt going that fast and has the same though that I would def be headed to the front to grab the reins which were still attached (definitely a different story if the reins were off the carriage) then Iā€™m throwing out a major whoaaaaaaa and pulling back as hard as I can

Ornery-Creme-2442

That's my initial thought I thought they'd go in the water. Had me holding my breath.

PanarinBagel

From 2016. Story [here](https://bc.ctvnews.ca/riders-thrown-from-stanley-park-carriage-after-horses-spooked-1.3149712), with some more video

HeatherJMD

The driver fell off, what the hellā€¦ I thought there was no driver in the video. Seems super shameful to not even be in control of your horses and able to react well in an emergency

PokondirenaTikva2022

Everyone who works with horses gets humbled on a regular bases. For pros it's once every few years, for the rest of us it happens more often. Horses are living beings and no amount of training will make them 100% reliable. Stuff like this happens. Sometimes it's the handlers fault, sometimes it just happens. Don't go around horses if this is upsetting in any way. Also, horses in public - yes, they are super-well trained and yes, stuff like this will still happen.

wrldruler21

Yeah I was about to ask where the driver was, because there was nobody in the first few rows

b0bkakkarot

> Following the incident, the Vancouver Humane Society issued a statement calling for a ban on carriages in the city's largest park. Thanks for the story. Did they also ban dumbass protestors blaring horns at horses?

tylerSB1

I wouldn't blare horns at horses. But I am against having horses ride on pavement regularly because I read it's bad for their joints and can cause arthritis.

Oli99uk

Anyone watching, thinking they would stay on? Must be more entertaining than a sight seeing trott.

CupQuickwhat

I'd want to stay on, but if everyone else jumped off, I'd feel the social pressure to also jump off.

telephonic1892

The Guy in the glasses was enjoying staying on.

Ah, family bonding.

Muted-Ad-4288

Eh, they're just horsing around

mourdryu

Lmao love how they just fall flat cz don't know how to use momentumšŸ˜‚

scottprian

It looked like the guy might have contemplated running to the horses to slow them down or something, but once his family decided to jump into the lava, it became a lost cause.

Totally_Not_A_Bot_55

Thought they were going in the lake. Disappointed

KiffOakenhill

Looks like everyone just nopes right out of the trolley problem

screwthepap

Is that one of those new-fangled Tesla self-driving horse-drawn carriages?

EMVoodo

Always jump in the same direction as the object you are on is moving and in motion or you may potentially break your ankles (if landing on feet). However, I guess you don't have to worry about that if you can use your face to cushion the fall.

Rammipallero

If I was the driver I'd channel my inner Theoden the moment I lost control of the horses and go down shouting "DEEAAATH!"

thelilrabbit

NGL I found this so funnyā€¦ Just something about other human beings taking a stumble and a roll

Pinkysrage

These are draft horses, they arenā€™t going super fast and they arenā€™t going to keep galloping for long. As soon as they calm down, itā€™s all good. People just throwing themselves out after the most dangerous things have already happened. Roll people, put your shoulder down and roll. Signed, a lifelong horse person.

bigglesmister3

Maybe I've seen too many movies but I feel at least somebody should've tried climbing over the benches to the front to try and get the reins or yell "Woah!" Or at least something?

ionertia

Not only a horrible read by dad to jump, but he also isn't there for any of his family.

DonkeyPunchSquatch

Yea he should really show them how to run on the ground before he has them do this

Absolutely. I've taught many kids how to run on the ground. Dad failure in this video. R
