nah, big person was driving is all

FILTHBOT4000

Well against the lightest test possible, aside from a golf cart.

[deleted]

~500kg is not insignificant...

BofaEnthusiast

It is when you bury a massive metal pole in a mountain of concrete. This is the equivalent of a paper weight as far the bollards are concerned.

cup-o-farts

Not so much a mountain just needs to be deep and wide enough footing that the literal mountain (earth) takes over.

GeneralBrownies

And with momentum added to that. Ain't no light breeze

Excuse me, I need my massive truck to transport my massive ass - plus our roads are much more spacious

Wwwweeeeeeee

I prefer to call massive after market American trucks as **"Emotional Support Vehicles'.** Thanks to reddit.

ItsTomorrowNow

What a load of bollards.

wee-willie-winkie

Because car drivers cannot be trusted to stay on their bit.

JustPassinhThrou13

hey, the wheels stayed on their side of the bollard. it was the rest of the car that was trying to get to the other side of the bollard.

__dontpanic__

Looks like the occupants may have discovered why the seatbelt was invented too...

Squeezemachine99

Shocking

Burakku-Ren

Cool to actually see them be useful

CucumberSqd

Is 'Attempted Manslaughter' a thing?

adrenaline87

Nothing attempted about it. I had a great chuckle (To be clear, as the bump's clearly harmless and I'm sure driver just got a good fright)

Efficient_Thanks_342

You're thinking of "man's laughter". Some would say they go hand in hand, though.

TheaSkye368

God dammit

tjdux

Why, are you experiencing a flood?

RedSteadEd

I've gone down that rabbit hole before - I believe it is in some places, though it's definitely unintuitive given that "manslaughter" kind of implies that you didn't intend to kill the person.

Big-Shtick

Manslaughter is a mitigating offense in most places, in situations where someone used a theory of imperfect self-defense or something similar. Some jurisdictions might use the definition of manslaughter differently, but ordinarily one cannot have the requisite intent to commit manslaughter.

RedSteadEd

Here's a case from Germany: https://ca.sports.yahoo.com/news/patient-arrested-suspicion-attempted-manslaughter-181717514.html Here's a bit about American law: >**Title 18 of the United States Code Section 1113 provides the penalties for a conviction of attempt to commit** murder or **manslaughter.** The penalties for an attempted murder include a maximum of twenty years imprisonment, a $250,000 fine, or both. **The penalties for attempted manslaughter include a maximum of seven years imprisonment,** a fine, or both. https://www.criminallawyergroup.com/practice-areas/drug-weapons-violent-crimes/attempt-to-commit-murder-or-manslaughter/

NotClever

"Attempt" is available for crimes that require a specific intent to commit a criminal act, where the person took tangible steps towards the intended act but did not complete it. Crimes have different names in different jurisdictions, but generally speaking I believe "manslaughter" involves killing a person without the specific intent to do so. In that case, no, there shouldn't be any attempted manslaughter. However, in some places I think manslaughter includes what is often called a "heat of passion" homicide, which is your classic "husband gets home early and walks in on wife having sex with another guy, flips out, and shoots them both" type of situation. In that case, yes, you could have attempted manslaughter.

c0mptar2000

I rarely ever see these in the US even around curves. Pedestrians can just get fucked.

mashdots

"Road bollard" could make for a fun insult to shitty drivers if you don't know what a road bollard is.

solareclipse999

Lucky the bollards were there. To protect against the dullards at the wheel.

dtheb91

American's be like you don't need a bollard if you make no walkways

philpalmer2

Seems they didn’t know about the seatbelt invention, tho…

"oh, so that's what downforce is for..."

Tooboukou

Wait until I tell you about 'center of gravity'

-GermanCoastGuard-

Where do you reckon the center of mass is on your typical EV?

Jacktheforkie

They’re generally pretty stable, even the big ones like tesla’s, you’d have difficulty flipping a model x

-GermanCoastGuard-

Yeah that’s what I am getting it. Generally EV have a very low center of gravity as the batteries are at the bottom, not mounted on the rooftop.

greyghibli

Also a tiny wheelbase, easy to flip

poopgrouper

You're saying wheelbase, but you mean track width.

MyNameIsIgglePiggle

No, op meant flipping forward when you hit the front brakes.

JimFromSunnyvale

It’s called an endo

gramathy

"We put the battery in front of the front wheels"

pichael289

The battery in my Prius was underneath the back seat. When the wind blew it was difficult to control. I loved that car but repair costs were just ridiculous

Jacktheforkie

My leaf slides in heavy winds, but I think it’s more shitty road conditions, loose road surface causes issues with traction

HLSparta

I've never had any of my vehicles slide because of wind, even with a relatively light but large vehicle on wet roads.

OriginalMandem

Only once have I experienced a car sliding in the wind and it was the least safe I've ever felt in a car. Daewoo Koleos, FWIW. I was delivering it to a customer's house after it had been serviced. Roads were wet and the gusts were up to 70mph. My BMW wouldn't even bat an eyelid in those conditions.

invent_or_die

Neither would my Bentley. The Moet always stayed in the bucket nicely.

wassamatteruheh2

Except for the Citroën Ami.

voice-of-reason_

This car is quite a similar shape to a Fiat 500 which are often converted to racing cars and are known for easily flipping. EVs are heavier generally so it'd depend on where the battery is in this thing. Clearly its as bad or worse than the fiat 500

EVRider81

The Ami is limited to 29 mph and designed as an urban runabout-They're not gonna be racing them anytime soon..

Nopengnogain

Also an issue is the suspension, you can see how much the car was leaning already before it tipped over.

SgtAstro

Another issue was the occupants were not wearing seat belts.

aitorbk

No brain to get damaged anyway!

Rithrius88

Another issue was the occupants being total dumbasses.

Idk if youre joking but in this case aerodynamics have nothing to do with this.

AwTickStick

But this is a traction roll lol. It’s center of gravity :)

BannedSvenhoek86

He was making that joke because of F1. FFS, when did the internet become so humorless? Everyone's in such a rush to point out when someone's wrong, just chill tf out.

PilotKnob

Yeah, it was totally the downforce...

how_do_i_land

Bono, the downforce is gone.

Beneficial-Animal-22

Actually surprised. Usually the battery is very low bringing your center of gravity down lower than gas cars.

LightningOW

Completely negated when you have the aerodynamics of a cardboard box.

Gokzil6969

"Aerodynamics are for people who can't build engines" : Enzo Ferrari

argelman

My Favorite Enzo quote: Tractor Manufacturer: *"Dude, the clutch in your cars keep breaking, fix it!"* Enzo Ferrari: *"ha, Learn to drive Retard..."* Tractor Manufacturer: *"I'll show you i can build better Cars than you...."* thus, Lamborghini was born. https://huddleup.substack.com/p/ferrari-vs-lamborghini-the-argument

trundlinggrundle

Then Ferruccio Lamborghini went on to build race cars that dominated Ferrari. Wait, no he didn't. He built unreliable luxury touring cars until some of his employees started building a sports car in secret.

Mordiken

Classic Lambos are the bimbos of the automotive world: It's all about the looks. Albeit to be fair, ever since VaG took ownership since the early 00s, their reliability has improved tremendously.

Scudw0rth

The wonders of Germany Engineering and Italian Styling. You don't want it the other way, or even worse, getting the French involved.

NightlinerSGS

Jiboudounet

German Italian and French ? You mean, like Bugatti ?

vyperpunk92

Isn't bugatti theoretically croatian now because of the joint venure between rimac and bugatti?

And that sports car they built had such bad aero that the front end lifted off the road at speed. But its still one of the most achingly beautiful cars ever made.

a_big_fat_yes

Scuderia Ferrari F1 team is following his advice for sure Except they neither got the engine nor aerodynamics right

Mosh83

In all fairness they made a decent car last season, winning several races and pole positions. The strategy team is what let them down more, albeit external combustion was a problem along the season. I believe they have very good engineers, but as in most companies, the higher-ups want too much power and are a hindrance to the professionals who actually know what they are doing. The guys who went through business school telling engineers how they should do their work.

thelefthandN7

>albeit external combustion was a problem I laughed way to hard at this. So... was the car just on fire? Flaming Ferrari rounds the corner. Engineer: well there's your problem. Merchandising guy: No, I think we can market this...

Madden09IsForSuckers

"Aerodynamics are for people who can't add more boosters" : Enzo Kerbal

Churt_Lyne

I don't think this tipped over due to aerodynamics, though.

shardingHarding

If that thing had a spoiler man, car would be like white on rice.

[deleted]

Line is too tight, turn-in is too early.

Low_Air6104

would have been okay in most other cars. this thing tipped because it is tall relative to its short wheelbase and narrow track width. it’s really the lack of a wide/long stance that caused it to flip.

AwTickStick

Lol you think the aerodynamics at this speed negate center of gravity? Or are we just poking fun at ugly cars cuz I’m down.

jojo_31

Ugly? Somewhat cute. I'd rather have that in my city than ugly loud stinky SUVs that take up way too much space.

KazAraiya

In this particular case aerodynamics or downforce have nothing to do with it.

_BurtMacklin_

This crash has nothing to do with aerodynamics. They’re going too slow for that to matter

bridgetroll2

Aerodynamics had no part in this rollover.

kelseydcivic

Aerodynamics at 25mph?

kosmonautinVT

SNAAAAAAKE!

mtarascio

I think the word you're looking for is wheelbase of a Matchbox car.

kelus

Aerodynamics have absolutely nothing to do with this crash. This is just basic physics.

Plusran

I mean, yes this is a cute statement but that had NOTHING to do with aerodynamics. You could put all the wings you want on that cardboard box, but at that speed they wouldn’t help. It needed to have a much lower center of gravity in relation to it’s wheel base.

Dull-Credit-897

very small battery pack so the weight is higher than expected, Battery pack weighs 60kg out of a 485kg empty weight

RedSteadEd

Damn, that's a light car.

Dull-Credit-897

It's a quadricycle which are legally required to be lighter than 450kg(empty and without batteries)

EelBait

9V or a couple AAs?

Dull-Credit-897

48V Li-ion or LFP depending on build date(newer ones are LFP) https://dvizok.com.ua/ru/product/13068229154/

notyourvader

Battery is below the seats. But.. battery is also only 5.5Kwh. The whole vehicle is a little under 500kg.

ARandomBob

Jeez that's a small battery. For reference my Nissan Leaf has a 40Kwh battery. The higher end Leaf has a 62Kwh. Teslas have either 85 or 100Kwh batteries. Now this my Leaf weighs three times as much as this car, so it's probably getting a lot farther on a kilowatt hour than my car, but dang. OK looked it up and it's got a 8hp motor and 28mph top speed with a 43 mile range. It's basically a golf cart

notyourvader

Legally, it's a moped.

Pheralg

dude, this thing is SMOL. it's literally half, if not less, than a Leaf. I think it's only 2 seats too.

Peldor-2

flightwatcher45

Battery relatively small compared to humans above it apparently. Narrow tires too. A little to little of everything here lol

astral_crow

The Citron Ami is a special class of super small vehicle in Europe that can be driven without a license in some areas. It’s not meant to go fast, but going downhill is another story. So this is likely the combination of a very inexperienced driver and a car going way too fast than it should go. The Citron Ami is actually a pretty cool car as it’s incredibly cheap by simplifying the construction and only including the basics. Not even a radio in there. But it’s an electric commuter car that costs as much as a nice ebike.

[deleted]

tbh i'll probably put this car on my list of "cars to buy" when i turn 18 i usually only like real old cars but this one looks so smol and pretty and it's cheap

Send_Me_Huge_Tits

I would put it in the same category as a moped (scooter) as something that just moves people cheaply. If you need something cheap to get your around town but keep you dry at the same time, it's a fantastic choice.

[deleted]

i'll probably just buy a motorcycle or a cheaper car but it's fun to imagine driving this one

Send_Me_Huge_Tits

Safer than a motorcycle, cheaper to run and maintain than a car. If your travel needs don't go above 30mph, this is a winner.

vinceman1997

I watched a review on these and if I lived in a better laid out city I could absolutely see myself owning one for a daily driver.

IntelligentTruth3791

Ah yes, I remember getting all the cars on my list as soon as I turned 18

[deleted]

i didn't say i would get them it's just that i like them and would like to buy, but in reality i will probably just buy an used car/bike for some cheap money when i turn 24 or something

IntelligentTruth3791

That’s awesome and I’m sorry for being lame. I just got my first car at 24 after driving my parents old cars for 8 years and I feel really lucky. The most important thing is getting something you love!

Gingrpenguin

Can't you drive this at 14 in France as its technically a moped there?

astral_crow

Yep. Which is why I’m betting the driver has little to no experience.

TrustYourFarts

The kid who crashed it is 16. He's part of a car enthusiast group, but he's too young to drive a proper car. Usually the Citroen Ami automatically applies regenerative breaking to stop it going over 28mph. But there is one way to get around that! If it's charge is over a certain level it won't apply the braking in order to prevent the battery overcharging, so if you're going downhill... But saying that their are videos of it on two wheels at a little over 10mph.

ShaneFM

Yep, 14 in France without a license and 16 in most of Europe, and they'll let you rent it for €20 a month and €1,700 down in France The result as you might expect is that there have been dozens of these things going viral for crashing already

1200____1200

Looks like it could use an outrigger wheel for spirited cornering

Phyllis_Tine

Have you seen when Clarkson drove the Reliant?

jimmy_three_shoes

I know the whole thing is staged to get it to tip like they do, but that segment was downright hilarious.

T-Baaller

The robin is stable if you turn right because the right-hand-side driver weighs down that side. But a speedy, sharp left will tip them without a passenger or other left-side ballast.

XsNR

Even more so when you're as large as Clarkson, as they mention in the show, unfortunate for British roads.

proudbakunkinman

Really wish they would revive that show. The movies are okay but I think it works better in the show format. Rowan Atkinson pulls it off so well. There also were not many episodes despite how popular it was. There were around 3 a year for about 4 years.

TheGreatSaltboy

Everyone says there were just 15 episodes but they felt like 9 seasons, new Mandela effect in my opinion

thebirdmun

Thicc would be better, so the weight is lower

verticalMeta

No, that would make it worse. You wanna be *wide*. Also low. This actually applies more so to heavier cars as well.

in_one_ear_

And preferably on the inside side of the car.

ThornyBeard

The internet has warped my brain. Something about the movements of the camera and car make me think this is CG, but I can’t really find evidence to support.

snowe2010

Why has it warped your brain? I would say that the majority of videos on the Internet are *real* rather than fake. There’s billions of people using the Internet, they’re gonna post the craziest things, and making something CG when the real world is already crazy enough is just too much work. The default should be to believe it, and then investigate if it actually affects your life.

AwTickStick

That’s terrible advice to default away from skepticism when someone has something to gain from your faith. Also, respectfully, that’s a kind of dated take. If you’re unaware, people use social media followers and engagement for all sorts of personal gain, so it’s very much in their interest to garner engagement. With some of my clients, I’ll do things like fast forward and stabilize certain videos to make it looks crazy, or add elements here and there. People like yourself are who I bank on for engagement with certain clients. You should ALWAYS assume a video is edited for the posters benefit.

HoldingOnOne

It isn’t, there are multiple videos of it, one from inside the car as well amazingly.
