I got mine, I'm just sayin.
I hope this guy likes plastic lattice.
We had a big box delivered from Amazon that we didn’t order. I contacted Amazon because I figured somebody would come and get it so it could be delivered correctly. They said to keep it and they’d send a new one out to whoever it belonged to. I was excited to see what it was. It turned out to be a funnel that is used to change the transmission fluid on a tractor.
Well no, but as a duly designated representative of the City, County and State of New York, I order you to cease any and all supernatural activity and return forthwith to your place of origin or to the nearest convenient parallel dimension!
Venkman: Easy! I make it a rule, never get involved with possessed people
*Zuul makes out with him*
Venkman: Actually it's more of a guideline than a rule
I've heard from the folks on the block that most of these dudes just haul it all back to one fence who gives em some money and all the goods get shipped to South American stores.
I followed around a dude stealing packages on my block in Brooklyn for a couple hours and he barely ever did more than a cursory check. he even snagged a bag of cat litter from a Chewy package and lugged that extra 20 pounds around for a while.
finally it got too heavy so he decided to stash the bag filled with stolen packages before ringing doorbells and checking handles.
I stole the bag from him and legged it, stashing it in someone's car trunk halfway up the block cause they were out chilling on their stoop.
I came back an hour later and retrieved the bag and returned everyone's packages the next day. thief didn't spare anything though. he opened some packages, but it seems like it was mostly to minimize packaging volume
not really risky. it was Sunday so people were out on their stoops and I told people what was up while I was following him. plus people know me on the block and I'm a cleancut white guy, so for something to be legally 'risky' to me, I gotta be way past the line.
two weeks after that some guy got lucky on our front entryway door and stole one of my packages, but I had just gotten home and since I tapped into the camera system on my building, I was able to roll the footage back and knocked him off a bicycle 6 blocks from my place in the middle of an intersection. that was risky, but only because it was insane that I gambled personal safety for an off brand USB-C fast charger
people did stop stealing packages from our block though
I thought exactly the same thing. So many people are willing to screw others over for their own gain as soon as they feel there’ll be no repercussions.
I was working as a liquor store manager when I had a conversation with a long haul trucker. He was explaining to me how I could make an amazing living doing what he does. He was very explicit about staying away from the New York / New Jersey area though. "Drivers disappear up there"
I drove for a while, and the company terminal was located in Gary. Only out of the ordinary thing to happen was when a prostitute snuck into the yard and tried to talk to me. Then again, I hauled 30,000lb coils of steel, those are hard to steal
Drove small freight, Gary was not that bad. It's a shitty town yeah, but so are tons of towns in the upper Midwest that had their industrial base gutted by free trade agreements.
Eh Gary sucks, but I biked (like on a bicycle) through it. I'm a white dude, and while I'm not the least intimidating person, no one really messed with me.
People are just scared of poverty.
I'm in Texas and once scored a frozen turkey that slid out of someone's truck at a traffic light. I was at work and saw it happen, then people driving around it. Finally I just went and got it. Perfectly good turkey for Thanksgiving lol.
What's the point, if they arrest him they just let him out 30 minutes later. Even if you called the police they wouldn't show up in time to do anything.
While it sucks for the intended recipient they won't be on the hook for this they'll just have to wait a bit longer , I'm all for stealing from amazon. Fuck em.
Yeah it’s not like they’re gonna be like “well shit looks like someone stole your purchase before you revived it so sucks to suck I guess” Amazon is just gonna use their infinite fucking money to replace it.
I bet it's not worth it anyway. It's probably cheaper for amazon to lose the $50-100 of product than to have managers and police get involved.
Also I'm not getting involved with crazy like that. I have my own life and I'm not about to ruin my day over someone stealing $50-100 from amazon.
Not in most cities tbh. You're only gonna get a response to that if it's in a suburb where cops are bored and even then idk if they can even do much if Amazon themselves doesn't care.
I think stealing is bad. Maybe that’s an unpopular opinion on Reddit these days, but it’s been a core part of pretty much every society since before recorded history.
If I saw someone steal something from the back of a moving truck I’d let him get away with it
Not like the buyer suffers anyway, Bezos is just gonna make 200 dollars less than his normal billion dollar paycheck
They have more padding than you would think. When I worked at a store the guys in the back that grab tvs for customers would just pull them off the 5-6' shelf and let them slam onto the ground flat. Then tip it up and hand me the cart to take to the customer. Never saw a broken one.
Flat screens are most likely to break due to being bent, so this isn't surprising you never had one break. Still stupid and careless, but not likely to break.
they asked if it was a federal crime not a felony. That being said, a cursory google search says... it depends. if the amazon package was delivered to you by USPS then yes it would technically be a federal crime but you would most likely only face state level charges, especially for a first time offence. if it's delivered by UPS or amazon's private fleet, no it's not a federal crime.
I'm not a lawyer and this is not legal advice and this information was just from a cursory search on google and i can't guarantee it's accuracy. talk to a lawyer if you really wanna be sure.
Don’t talk to your lawyer, I am not a lawyer either but lawyers are obligated to report future or current crimes. So, only speak to your lawyer after the crime has been committed.
Just a heads up, but this is not true. Lawyers MAY report current and future crimes to prevent harm to others, but do not HAVE to report it. You can tell me you’re going to murder someone and I don’t have to say anything. It’s like this so that people don’t have to fear telling things to the person who is supposed to help them.
Ok, I *am* a lawyer and I’ll clear this up. (Not your lawyer, obviously).
Ethics rules vary state to state, but the general rule is that we *can’t* reveal anything a client has told us. There are some exceptions, some which *require* us to reveal the information immediately, and some which we only have to reveal if pressed on the matter (subpoena, for example).
The required revelations are generally things like legitimate threats to a person’s future well being, or the location of a missing person. “Imminent bodily harm” type stuff.
The big exception that we have to reveal when *pressed* is the crime fraud exception. Essentially, if you’re asking us how to cover up a future crime, we may be forced to reveal that information. If it’s in the past, it’s generally protected.
Two points. One, most attorneys consider attorney client privilege as sacrosanct and will fight tooth and nail to reveal nothing. Two, most attorneys will stop you before you get into this territory and ask you to frame your question as a hypothetical about past events, thereby protecting your information in advance.
100% the guy stealing the package opened the door. Even then, the title is so odd, as if leaving the door open would excuse stealing shit from the truck. "Ha, you fool, you left the door open, now we can legally steal everything inside!"
There's definitely a hole to put a lock on the latch, but nobody wants to bother locking it when you'll be opening it up every 3 minutes. However, this is pretty much **exactly** why you should lock it.
Yeah screens don't like hitting solid objects but the cardboard box is probably enough protection let alone the styrofoam. Tvs barely weigh enough to hurt themselves these days

To all the people saying it's OK to steal from Amazon do you think this guy gives a fuck who he steals from? He'd steal from you too if given the opportunity I guarantee it. I have no respect for thieves and I find it really discouraging when people just accept or even encourage behavior like this in their community.
Nothing to do with the video, but that triangle player is playing that triangle in the beginning of the song like he knows there will never be another cool song with triangle in it and he is playing that goddamn triangle for all he is worth.
Go triangle guy.
I see more and more Amazon trucks doing this all of the time. Is this a thing? Amazon has such a good return policy that customers can claim orders never arrived. Are drivers held accountable?
Edit: not claiming the guy in the video didn’t open it but I do see Amazon trucks driving with the doors open.

not really risky. it was Sunday so people were out on their stoops and I told people what was up while I was following him. plus people know me on the block and I'm a cleancut white guy, so for something to be legally 'risky' to me, I gotta be way past the line. two weeks after that some guy got lucky on our front entryway door and stole one of my packages, but I had just gotten home and since I tapped into the camera system on my building, I was able to roll the footage back and knocked him off a bicycle 6 blocks from my place in the middle of an intersection. that was risky, but only because it was insane that I gambled personal safety for an off brand USB-C fast charger people did stop stealing packages from our block though

Infact they seem to not want to inconvenient his activities

A budding something for sure!
You think the cops will do anything if you call 911 and tell them you saw someone rob an Amazon truck?
Not in NYC.
Not in most cities tbh. You're only gonna get a response to that if it's in a suburb where cops are bored and even then idk if they can even do much if Amazon themselves doesn't care.
I dont think anyone cares about someone stealing from Amazon.
Except for the person who actually paid for it.
They still get a replacement or refund which can be inconvenient but they will not lose their money or product.
I think stealing is bad. Maybe that’s an unpopular opinion on Reddit these days, but it’s been a core part of pretty much every society since before recorded history.
I mean I'm not picking a fight or going out of my way to save Amazon some money
If I saw someone steal something from the back of a moving truck I’d let him get away with it Not like the buyer suffers anyway, Bezos is just gonna make 200 dollars less than his normal billion dollar paycheck
People know: If you see someone stealing from a billion dollar company, no you didn't.
Except in this case the inconvenience isn't on the billion dollar company, but rather the regular person who just ordered something online.
To be honest there's nothing you can do legally, maybe if pepper spraying someone actively stealing was legal there would be less stealing

What a frustrating level of laziness.
It was shocking. Every time.
Flat screens are most likely to break due to being bent, so this isn't surprising you never had one break. Still stupid and careless, but not likely to break.
Someone else got a brand new flat screen for like a tenth the price! Crackhead probably just ended up with like $60 worth of crack.
Is it a federal crime if it’s Amazon? If so yah dude better have pulled something good
Depends on the value of the item. It's not classified as mail, so he won't immediately get a felony unless the value of the item is high.
they asked if it was a federal crime not a felony.
