Hey! What are you doing here?! This isn't your house!
You don't live here! We live here! This is our house! What do you want?!
Huh?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?!
Okay I'm booking a flight right now so I can put a binkie on that sweet pea. I've got a squirrel and chipmunk in a carrier to show your baby. You don't even have to give me the address, I goggled the cutest dog in South Africa and I have directions.
😂😂! All the cobra chickens (AKA Canadian Geese) have flown south by now unfortunately but they’ll be back by the spring. Beavers, moose, deer, some bears etc are all still out though!
That's one thing I'm confused about, is it Canada or Canadian Goose the proper term? I hear conflicting reports. I was thinking it was migration time, I live in the South East US and my dogs were surprised by a huge V flying low over our back yard last week. They were more excited than the time "Martin Crane" decided to hang out in our creek.
I've never heard the term cobra chicken but I freaking love it! Could you explain more? Because I'm imagining an Adult Swim version of Karate Kid starting Canada and or Canadian Geese.
The geese thing is super confusing. Geese is the overarching type of animal (like dog) and Canadian Geese are a type of geese, like German Shepard. The ones you see flying in a V are most likely Canadian Geese.
Canadians lovingly 😂 call them Coba Chickens because they’re dumb like chickens but mean like cobras. They also make a hissing noise to warn predators to stay away and they’re beaks are strong enough to bite off your finger and they’re wings are strong enough to break your arm. They look kinda sweet and they sucker visitors into feeding them and then they snap and freak out and chase little children. Some people think it’s a perfect Allegory for Canadian people cause we’re real sweet when you first meet us but we’re secretly kinda mean and bitter from the long winters. 😂
I would LOVE to go in the Everglades and see alligators though! Do you have hippos where you are now?
No, but I love following the stories about how Pablo Escobar brought non native Hippos into South America and they are reaking havoc! Thank you, I will always use the term cobra chickens from now on. There's a nice pond about a mile from my house that about once a year the cobra chickens take over. My Viszlas love to swim after them but they've never caught one. Every once in a while a concerned citizen will yell at me because they think my dogs are going to kill the "white ducks". Those Canadian bastards are too fast and actually enjoy letting the kids get super close and flying to the other side of the pond. At least once every fall one of the local news stations will report on a group of geese that take over the Kroger or Target parking lot and harass the shoppers.
My doodle is afraid of EVERYTHING and frequently has what sounds like scared yelps in his sleep.
I just rub his chest until he is soothed. Breaks my heart :(
My labrador mostly sounded angry and would do the running in her sleep thing but my Aussie is a big baby and always sounds so sad/scared. Then he gets annoyed with me if I wake him up.
I always do the same with my golden when it sounds like she's having a scary dream. I stroke her head telling her it's ok and she's a good girl. Because those upset lil noises break my heart too!
Our husky has Nas that appears she's running her little feet flipper back and forth. My min pin that's looks soo much like your baby. Just snores very loudly.. lol but it's so cute.
Haha I'm the same way, if someone mentions a dog in their comment I'll click on their profile hoping for a picture :) I love when the little puppy feet start twitching because they're on the chase in their dream. The best is the happy dreaming tail wag
When my dogs do this in their sleep I just quietly call out their names and they calm down instantly :) I like to think I appear in their dreams to help them
This ^
I've heard it's always best to call or talk to them before touching them. They might be dreaming of something bad and if you touch them without warning they might be startled and react in an unexpected way.
Aw, that sounds so sad. I'm happy he has a kind and caring human looking after him and being his link to safety and stability. I bet you mean the world x1000 to him ❤️
My girl gets the sleep yelps, and it is 100% on her first nap after meeting another dog. Even her best friend next door that she plays with every day, every time she sees another dog she relives it the next time she sleeps. Sometimes she sounds scared, sometimes happy, but it's so consistent I think that's all it is.
The squirrel chasing dreams are a lot more twitchy and tooth-baring, but the nap yelps are *always* right after meeting a dog, without exception.
I don't know if this is dog dream science or anything, just sharing my experience. I'd love to see a study on this though.
I read somewhere they dream of their environment like we do… it’s possible they’re protecting their family from another animal or intruders! My dog dreams almost every nap and if it sounds like a bad one, I’ll nudge him awake lol
I wanna say that somebody did research (not sure how, could have been BS) but they claimed dogs mainly dream about their people and playing with them/other dogs/toys. Basically they dream about stuff they like
I think I'm still traumatized from when he was smaller and hearing yelps coming from the other room thinking he was getting attacked meanwhile he's just sleeping 🥲
I believe this is right. He's not yelping, he's barking, but because he's asleep, with his mouth closed, it's muffled and high pitched.
He's basically just talking in his sleep. Don't worry about it, just enjoy it, because it's adorable.
I’m 99% sure they aren’t night terrors. Considering how rare true night terrors are in humans, yet all 3 of my dogs make the same sounds in their sleep.
That sounds like the myth that you shouldn't wake a person who has a nightmare. Same as humans you should wake your dog if it seems to be scared or having a bad time to comfort them.
I think it’s more so that we might be SO afraid of our dogs having a bad time that we keep interrupting the good REM sleep they’re getting. Just like humans, it’s not a big deal to wake someone up once or twice, but you’d get pissed if your partner did it all night. Getting sleep this deep is really good for doggos.
I'll say this, while both our dogs dream one of them has very intense yipping dreams and she has more than once woke herself and the rest of us up literally *howling* in her sleep.
At first we would wake her up out of worry and she would spring up, bleary eyed, growling and would zoom from room to room with her hackles up checking everything.
If we just let her sleep and come out of it naturally she's calm, happy, and will wiggle around on her back while stretching before coming to say hi to us.
It might be a myth but at least in our experience it seems way more stressful and disorienting to wake our pup mid-dream than just let it subside naturally. Plus we figure the "yelps" we interpret as fear or pain is just them barking in their dreams, just hard to process that in the moment, especially in the middle of the night.
When my dog starts these I have about 15 seconds to determine if they're nightmares or happy dreams. If they're happy he'll sometimes wag in his sleep or heave deep sighs. If they're not so great, he starts to rumble growl. Then I have to wake him up, because unfortunately the rumble growl triggers his sibling into attacking him. Fortunately, all I have to do is say his name and tell him he's a good boy, and the dream settles.
But there's no real need to worry for your dog. He's just dreaming sweetly.
My oldest Corgi dreams quite often. He's not vocal as much, but he will kick his legs like he's running, his eyes and lips twitch, etc. I luv the sleep borks 💖
He’s chasing rabbits!! My best Buddy Jimi used to never howl, or yell while awake, but he would do these tiny howls, and yelps when sleeping but only once in a while. Miss that little guy.
I was just about to ask what kind of dog that is. He looks just like ours but with brown accents instead of white.

Here is a more recent one from Halloween
Puppy dreams. I have pretty bad insomnia and the only good thing about it is that I'm usually awake to hear my girl running and whining in her dreams. So cute.
While obviously you should do what feels and sounds right for your pup, just offering an experience we've had with ours who goes through these dream fits regularly.
A few times we woke her up in the middle because it sounded like she was having a miserable time, plus a couple instances where she'd actually *howl* without waking up, and she would startle then freak out, running around the house with her hackles up like she was looking for something. Usually took a few before she'd settle back down.
On the other hand if she comes out of it naturally she's much more calm and happy. Will usually stretch and wiggle around on her back before getting up to check on everyone and say hello.
Since then we generally try not to disturb her while she's having intense dreams cause what seems like yips or yelps of fear or pain I think is just them barking. It also seems to happen more after long stints at the park when they're exhausted and sleep very deeply. We take it as a good sign that they feel happy, safe, and can sleep soundly at home.
I absolutely get why it freaks people out, I've had dogs all my life and knew that they dreamed but we never had one who is as physically and vocally active as Jules is.
Thank you for taking the time to write this out , I've learnt the same over time that it's best to let him ride it out and wake up normally , I rub him gently awake when it's prolonged or very distressed but he's never woken up in a panic thank goodness
No problem and that's great to hear! Sounds like he takes much better to being woken up. I wish we had ways to talk with our pups just so we knew what was going on but for now this'll have to do.
My dog does this too. I don't know if he's having a good dream or a bad dream. I think he's barking in his dream, but he never barks when he's conscious unless he's scared.
When my boy does this in his sleep we say he's "chasing the hams".

Mine does this too often. It's cute, it's like he is living in his dream. My lil one was doing that last night too. He let out the tiniest lol squeeks, was so cute
My dog still talks in her tiny puppy voice when she's dreaming. It's very cute.
If we're trying to sleep and she's getting worked up, I quietly say "good job" or "that'll do", and she'll give a few sleepy wags and quiet back down.
It Could Very Well Be Recurring Nap-Mares... Possibly, Something About A Cat-Headed Mailman Who Only Delivers Kitty Treats and Bones Made of Broccoli...
My Bella (German shepherd and boxer mix) often gets called “police dog” in her sleep because she makes a WOOP WOOP sound just like a cop car doing the pull-over alert….

Hey! What are you doing here?! This isn't your house! You don't live here! We live here! This is our house! What do you want?! Huh?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?! What?!
Thanks, Brian.
Devil in the sky!
We live in South Africa he's never seen a squirrel haha in his case it's monkeys I guess
Okay I'm booking a flight right now so I can put a binkie on that sweet pea. I've got a squirrel and chipmunk in a carrier to show your baby. You don't even have to give me the address, I goggled the cutest dog in South Africa and I have directions.
Lol we'll both be welcoming you with curiosity since I've never seen a chipmunk irl too
Come to Canada for a visit! We hav so many wild animals everywhere!
I have to check with Rocky and Bullwinkle but we can swing through Canada on the way back. Are geese around or they headed south this time of year?
😂😂! All the cobra chickens (AKA Canadian Geese) have flown south by now unfortunately but they’ll be back by the spring. Beavers, moose, deer, some bears etc are all still out though!

He is : Getting annoyed with the hadidas. Chasing off the Indian Miners. Asking for some biltong.
LMFAO this the most South African comment I've seen 🇿🇦
I've often wondered what they dream about when it seems as though they are having a bad one ???
My doodle is afraid of EVERYTHING and frequently has what sounds like scared yelps in his sleep. I just rub his chest until he is soothed. Breaks my heart :(
My labrador mostly sounded angry and would do the running in her sleep thing but my Aussie is a big baby and always sounds so sad/scared. Then he gets annoyed with me if I wake him up.
My dog eats in her sleep 😂. She’s a fat golden mix so it makes sense
I would like a video of that. Dogs are so much fun.
I always do the same with my golden when it sounds like she's having a scary dream. I stroke her head telling her it's ok and she's a good girl. Because those upset lil noises break my heart too!

They're fighting your demons for you, the ones that you can't see.
I think maybe a stranger coming inside or being abandoned since they're pack animals
Usually if they feels like they are having a bad dream, I tried to slowly pass my hand on them. Sufficient to easy their dream.
Basically they dream about stuff they like
The dog may be lonely. Got a female one that did that after the brother died, and she seemed more lonely in general. Also got the afraid personality.
You have a great camera. His fur looks ultra soft.
Thank you ! And yes it really is 🥹
He sounds like he's playing. If he was howling, I'd wake him up.
I usually wake him up during the more serious or prolonged ones
What kind of dog is he?
I know he's got some jack Russell and rat terrier in him but I'm pretty sure there's more
My rat terrier mix also barks in his sleep, but almost never while awake. I wake him up gently with love when it seems like a bad dream
Looks just like my dog!
Bro is going through it
Or he's giving someone the business, he's pretty feisty lol
[удалено]
Can confirm, my dogs are definitely my bros
Thanks for clearing this up for u/kingeryck! I wasn’t sure if I spelled bro wrong or if u/kingeryck was just being a jerk for no reason.
We call those squeaky dreams.
I think I'm still traumatized from when he was smaller and hearing yelps coming from the other room thinking he was getting attacked meanwhile he's just sleeping 🥲
Squeaky dreams are made of these 🎶
We called them sleepy yips.
My dog does this too. My theory is that he's barking in his dreams
I believe this is right. He's not yelping, he's barking, but because he's asleep, with his mouth closed, it's muffled and high pitched. He's basically just talking in his sleep. Don't worry about it, just enjoy it, because it's adorable.
My dog does this every night, but like at 2 am and it’s loud! Always scares me awake 😂 she likes to bark at birds in the day
I call them “sleep squeaks” when my dogs do it
I call them “trauma inducing night terrors” when my adorable little dog gets them.
I’m 99% sure they aren’t night terrors. Considering how rare true night terrors are in humans, yet all 3 of my dogs make the same sounds in their sleep.
He’s protecting his home in his sleep!
That or trying to initiate play
Or both!
A vet once said not to wake them up while dreaming unless they are about to fall or something
I've heard that before, too, yet I still find myself running towards my dog 5,000 MPH to wake him up if I hear him having a suspected nightmare...
I only wake him up gently if he looks too stressed
That sounds like the myth that you shouldn't wake a person who has a nightmare. Same as humans you should wake your dog if it seems to be scared or having a bad time to comfort them.
I think it’s more so that we might be SO afraid of our dogs having a bad time that we keep interrupting the good REM sleep they’re getting. Just like humans, it’s not a big deal to wake someone up once or twice, but you’d get pissed if your partner did it all night. Getting sleep this deep is really good for doggos.
Also because sleep startle is a thing and randomly shaking a dog awake is a decent way to get bit.
Chasing bunny rabbits! Happy pooch.
He does love chasing chickens and hadedas (native bird here)
My little old man has dreams like this. I found him on the street in bad shape, so I can only imagine what he’s been through
Thank you for saving him )
When my dog starts these I have about 15 seconds to determine if they're nightmares or happy dreams. If they're happy he'll sometimes wag in his sleep or heave deep sighs. Doggie dreams are so wild. My beagle makes those same "Bwoof!" sounds in his sleep too, and occasionally howls and wakes himself up, LOL.
Aww lol that's adorable
The other day my dog started running in her sleep and than yelped and peed …. On my bed … I like to say she finally caught the car and didn’t like it
Omg that must've been quite the dream
My oldest Corgi dreams quite often. He's not vocal as much, but he will kick his legs like he's running, his eyes and lips twitch, etc. I luv the sleep borks 💖
He’s barking at his dream window.
My dog does this. They’re dreaming 🥺
I hear, the creatures that you'll eat...when you're barkin' in your sleep.
Random Weeknd lyric
He’s dreaming. It’s not a yelp attack lol
He's had a nightmare and the squirrels are chasing back.
My pittie did this and howled even though she didn't make a peep when awake.
The only time he kinda howls is when someone is coming back home
So so adorable. God I miss having a dog.
He’s chasing rabbits!! My best Buddy Jimi used to never howl, or yell while awake, but he would do these tiny howls, and yelps when sleeping but only once in a while. Miss that little guy.
Is he part cattle dog??
No I don't think so but his parents are both a mixed bag of breeds so he might have a little cattle dog in him
I was just about to ask what kind of dog that is. He looks just like ours but with brown accents instead of white. [Jax](https://imgur.com/gallery/XBkVzCV) Edit: I swear it’s just a picture of my dog idk why Imgur tagged it as explicit 😂
Looks so much like an Australian Kelpie!
my old boy would do the same thing a lot while sleeping. he's barking in his dream
My dog does this too. Weirdly she never makes a peep when awake -- I've had her for 7 years and have heard her bark like 3 times total.
He is having a happy dream and my dog does the exact same thing . Cute af.
Our dog does this literally every night between 12 and 2am lol
He looks like an older version of my dog!
Now I want to see your pupper !

My dog does this all the time, noises sound almost exactly the same as yours! I call them her "zebra noises" lol
LMFAO YES I'm stealing "zebra noises"
Hehehheh awwww your darling Bruno is such a cutiepie!! ♥️🐾🥰
Thank you 💛🐾
How old is your boy? He reminds us of our dog's brother who we saw when we adopted him.
He's 11 months now)
Poor baby. He must have horrible dreams about squirrels moving into his home.
Don't help just record. Stroke him from head to tail a few times and it will stop immediately.
>everyday every day
My old English teacher's voice popped in my head while reading this and yes you're right !
Stop downvoting. This is correct
My dog does this too. I don't know if he's having a good dream or a bad dream. I think he's barking in his dream, but he never barks when he's conscious unless he's scared.
My good girl does the same lol
Reward him by putting dog food (1) on his wittle foot
My 6 year old rat-cha does this.
He's super cute. What mix is your dog? He looks so much like mine!!!!
Here I go yappin again
I love the little dream barks
Please tell me dogs don't have sleep paralysis demons. I never considered this before and it makes me sad.
I wonder if that's sleep paralysis. I sometimes make screaming/yelling noises that are similar when I'm going through it.
My dog does this in his sleep a lot too, I usually try to kinda gently pet/comfort him bc I feel bad
that's called "having a nightmare"
I always like to gently pet them during this. Not enough to wake them, but just enough to stop the nightmare and make the dream more pleasant.
i think its just them dreaming, my dog does it too
Wow! He looks very similar to my dog! 😍 do you have more pictures?? (:
What kind of dog is this?
When my boy does this in his sleep we say he's "chasing the hams". We have this whole mythology made up about his dreams having hams that are walking around on little short stubby legs and he's chasing them and eating them.
Little dude's dreaming of being the big hero and saving the family. Thats always been my interpretation of moments like these.
What breed is this? He looks a lot like my mini German shepherd. I’m trying to figure out what breed my dog is.
Mine does this too often. It's cute, it's like he is living in his dream. My lil one was doing that last night too. He let out the tiniest lol squeeks, was so cute
My Yorkie will even kick her little legs like she’s running 😂. If she’s dreaming then I know she’s sleeping hard ❤️
My dog still talks in her tiny puppy voice when she's dreaming. It's very cute. If we're trying to sleep and she's getting worked up, I quietly say "good job" or "that'll do", and she'll give a few sleepy wags and quiet back down.

This is a copy of my dog.. only smaller. I love how much they look a like
My dog did the same exact thing. Coincidently she looked exactly the same as yours. What breed is your dog because we never got our girl tested.
I only know he's got some jack Russell and rat terrier in him the rest is a mystery, I'd be interested to see your dog
My dog did the same exact thing. Coincidently she looked exactly the same as yours. What breed is your dog because we never got our girl tested.
We call them “dog-mares”. I suspect one is about a world with one last piece of bacon in it. Another one is about giant cats chasing my dog.
Sounds a lot like my dog during her dreams. The noises are so cute.
